I participated in the humble bundle, and I'm trying to get the boxed set shipped to me.

Paizo.com is sending me a message saying that my transaction has been denied.

My card is a debit card, and I checked with my bank. I was assured by them that there's no reason for this to be denied.

Is the excess traffic preventing the website from processing orders correctly?

LMK which and why.

TIA.

Grand Lodge

Goal: to create a 20 point buy pole weapon user. He can be any aasimar sub race (from the Aasimars Heirs of Glory supplement).

I'm thinking of the character as either a fighter, paladin, or even a cleric. I'll be starting at 8th level.

Thank you so much for your help.

Grand Lodge

Hey all.

I have a 2nd level Paladin ready to advance to level 3. She has a 12 WIS, and is your typical Paladin in heavy armor.

In all 6 encounters I've had so far, there's been difficult terrain, or the Web and Grease spells, which really got in the way.

I am heavily tempted to dip a level into Cleric so I can take the Travel Domain and have the ability to ignore difficult terrain 1x/day.

I'd also gain some 1st level spells and the Luck Domain.

I think these benefits are worth the -1 BAB at this paint. What do you think?

TIA

Grand Lodge

By this, I mean I am looking for the best 1st level character you can create to get you through first level, fully intending on completely reworking the character before advancing to 2nd level.

I have come up with the following character. Please advise on him, because I'm very willing to change things around.

Half Elf Cleric of Desna. Luck and Travel Domains

STR 18 DEX 14 CON 14 INT 7 WIS 12 CHA 12

Traits: Observant, reactionary

Alternate Racial Trait: Ancestral Arms (Fauchard)

Chain mail/ Fauchard/ Sling

Skill: Perception

Feat: Combat Reflexes

Let me know what you think!

Grand Lodge

Are traits in the "campaign" category legal in Pathfinder Society?

I am curious about the trait "Optimistic Gambler"

Grand Lodge

Hey guys, can anybody suggest a popular film or book character that would have a 7-8 INT and a 14-17 WIS?

I'm having a hard time figuring out how to role play it.

Thank you.

Grand Lodge

Could you please direct me to an online resource to buying all this stuff? I have a bunch of money and PP to spend.

Thanks!

Grand Lodge

Somebody brought this up at the table last night, and the GM said he'd allow it for this session, even though he thought it was wrong.

He didn't want to take time away from playing for a minor bonus.

Can you do this? As a half elf, can you choose your "two favored classes" as the same class, twice?

Grand Lodge

Precocious Spellcaster seems like a great trait.

It is listed as a regional trait. What region does it belong to? I might want to use it in a PFS game. Is that possible?

Grand Lodge

I want to see if this works.

Human Arcanist

STR 10 DEX 12 CON 14 INT 20 WIS 10 CHA 7

Feats:
Spell Focus: Evocation
Spell Specialization: Magic Missile

Exploit:
Potent Magic

When I spend a point, I can hurl a 5th level Magic Missile, as a first level character. With a 20 INT, that's 4 times a day.

I haven't explored any traits yet, to see if I can boost anything. I'd probably choose observant as one of them.

Grand Lodge

I am not too sure on this one.

I'm kinda digging witches, and then I saw the Orc Scarred Witch Doctor. They sub out INT and you can use CON as your casting stat. Half Orcs can start PFS with a 20 CON.

I thought this sounded like a cool and powerful character.

I just want to know if it's legal before I go any further.

TIA.

Grand Lodge

I can't seem to find a limit on how many times a Witch can use a Hex. Am I missing something?

Grand Lodge

I was wondering what happens with skills when you multiclass.

I have a Half Elf Paladin. Her favored classes are Paladin and Cleric.

I am advancing to level 2, and choose Cleric.

I know this opens up different class skills.

Are skills from both classes now considered Class skills (and are therefore subject to the +3 bonus)? What happens if I put a skill point into the Cleric class at a later level-up (when advancing as a Paladin again)? Do I get the class-skill bonus even if putting ranks into a skill when it isn't a class skill of that particular level up?

TIA

Grand Lodge

Slashing Grace and Fencing Grace?

OR

Slashing Grace and Dervish Dance?

I doubt you can, but I just felt the need to check.

Thanks!

Grand Lodge

Halfling Paladin of Shelyn/Bard (Favored Class: Bard)

STR 6 DEX 18 CON 14 INT 12 WIS 8 CHA 17

or

STR 10 DEX 18 CON 14 INT 10 WIS 7 CHA 17

CL 1: Paladin 1. Feat: Weapon Finesse. Skills: Diplomacy, Know (Religion), Craft (painter)

CL 2: Paladin 2. Skills: Perform (Dance), Diplomacy (2), Know (Nobility)

CL 3: Bard 1. Feat: Dancing Dervish. Skills: Perform (Dance 2), maximize Perception, at least 1 rank in all Knowledges from here on out.

All stat bumps go to CHA. Items bought increase CHA and DEX.

Basic idea is: Use a light crossbow for the first two levels. Use a Rapier if forced into melee for the first two levels. With that STR, you won't be wearing much armor.

After Dancing Dervish, melee is a better option, with a scimitar (you're doing 1d4 + 4 which is pretty respectable for a small sized non-melee combatant). I'd still rather be casting spells and singing or firing a crossbow in combat.

The real power of this character is the out-of combat skill checks, spellcasting, and the fact that he'll probably never fail a saving throw.

Grand Lodge

It seems like so many good spells are already on the Bard spell list. Is it worth investing points in UMD for Bards?

TIA

Grand Lodge

I'm sorry, I don't know where else to put this.

I am brand new to PFS. It's a lot fun.

I got into this game through meetup.com.

Anyway, long story short: I tried contacting Richard Lighthiser, who is listed as a regional coordinator in New Jersey. Sadly, I later found out, through people who played with him, that he passed away a few months ago.

I just thought you should know, in case nobody has contacted you before about this.

Grand Lodge

Basically, I'm wondering if my fighter, in his heavy armor, will ever be able to take advantage of his 14 dexterity, or if I'd be better off making him with a dex of 12 or 13 and placing those points elsewhere.

Thanks!

Grand Lodge

Since it's a warhammer, can clerics of Torag use their actual weapon as their holy symbol?

Grand Lodge

Just wondering. I'm pretty new to PFS, having just completed my third session today (yay 2nd level, here I come!).

I have played a Paladin for 2 of my 3 sessions. I liked it a lot.

One thing I've noticed is, in three different groups (two players listed below were the same for 2 of my 3 games), was a considerable lack of warriors.

I've seen:

1 Barbarian
2 Wizards - same player
2 Druids
1 Sorcerer
1 Magus - my first session
2 Monks - same player
1 Rogue
1 Summoner

Is this normal? I mean, is there more of a trend to avoid warrior-type characters in PFS?

Grand Lodge

For example: I know there are some published races that are no longer allowed. Where would I find this information?

Are there any other things in books that have changed, or are just flat out not allowed?

TIA!

Grand Lodge

Let's say you start off with a Fighter, buy him some chainmail, a greatsword, bow, ect.

Then, after one session, decide you'd rather try a sorcerer.

I know you can recreate your character before 2nd level, but does that include basic equipment? Can I effectively hit a "reset button" on purchases? If not, are there rules on selling equipment you don't want anymore?

Grand Lodge

Thanks

Grand Lodge

I played one in a different game, and thought it would be cool.

I saw them on the SRD, and I know I'd need to buy the book(s) first.

The Variant Tiefling Heritages also interest me. Are those legal?

What book(s) do I find these options in?

Thanks!!

Grand Lodge

Hey guys. My PFS character will have enough XP to hit 2nd level after an adventure tomorrow. I have a few things I want to iron out before I get there.

Human Paladin of Kurgess. 11 WIS.

1) Is it worth it, to at one point, to take a single level of Cleric? I want the domain ability from Travel so he won't be so slow.

2) weapon/shield, two handed weapon, or bow? I kind of think most of the damage at higher levels will come from smiting, which means a shield (when I say weapon/shield, I mean just using a shield, not investing in TWF and shield bashing) will be okay. But then I get to thinking about enemies that aren't evil, and how a two hander would be really helpful against them. If a two hander is recommended, what about using a reach weapon? I think I would like an archer-Paladin, but I'm always warned that I'll be expected to take the front line in many groups when there isn't a Fighter or Barbarian.

3) I've been thinking: if I go with a weapon/shield style of fighting, then I don't need to worry about power Attack or combat reflexes too much. Then I start thinking that maybe a half elf might be better than a human.

Thanks for your help guys!!

Grand Lodge

Hey guys! I just finished my second ever PFS game. After my next game, I can no longer edit the character. My main goal with this thread is to really decide what path is best for me.

I played a Magus in my first game, and a pre-gen Paladin in my second game (it was organized through meetup.com, and I was told I could play my 1st level character when I agreed to go. When I got there, I was told the rest of the party would be playing between 5-7 level characters, and I could either play my level 1 Paladin (and be very careful), or play a pregenerated level 7 Paladin, and add the experience to my level 1 character. I opted to go that route since the other players could play their characters with an appropriate challenge and I was able to get a feel for a higher level character).

Anyway, I have decided that I really like the Paladin. I like role-playing one, and I like their abilities. My build was for a pole-arm wielding Paladin. The pregenerated Paladin is the one in the CRB, who fights with sword and shield. I was going to test out an archery based Paladin also, but I'm a little worried about two things with an Archer-Paladin: 1) too much MAD. 2) I can't get Point Blank Master, without a minimum 4 level dip into Fighter (or 6 into Ranger). That's too much.

So, I'm posting this thread because I'm curious as to what is widely viewed as the smartest option for PFS. I'm leaning towards the Lucerne Hammer for melee and a Longbow for range. But I'm really not sure. Is the Archer-Paladin viable without Point Blank Master? I will always have both a missile and a melee weapon, but I want to know what's best to concentrate on.

Both PFS games I've played in have had some weird terrain. An archer would have contributed to the fight in both situations admirably, and would not have clogged up the "choke points" in the terrain.

Are obstacles and difficult terrain common in PFS? I know I have a very limited sample size to make an evaluation with here.

Grand Lodge

I've been out of the game a while. How dumb is a 7 INT?

Grand Lodge

That's an excerpt from the description of the fey foundling feat.

I tried reading the book, but I can't figure out what this really means.

If I select this feat for my character, how do I describe this "mark"?

Grand Lodge

Thanks.

[Backstory: I played my first PFS game, and had fun. But I didn't really like my character. After getting some advice on here, I've decided to switch to a Paladin for my next session. This character is LARGELY based upon the advice I got from Fruian Thistlefoot). I was playing a character belonging to the Dark Archives. Characters who belong to this faction got some pretty neat little bonuses at the end of the adventure. I was told that, if I rework the character, and chose a different faction, I would lose these bonuses. Anyway, onto my inquiry]

When I read the description of the Dark Archives, I could see how a Paladin could thematically belong to this guild. (Greater Good angle: better that we have these artifacts under lock and key than have them fall into the wrong hands, ect.).

Then I read some more.

Paladins can Detect Evil at will. Paracountess Zarta Dralneen is Lawful Evil. I can't see any way a Paladin would join an order where the leader was Evil.

I brought this up to my GM. He said there's no RAW against it, but he sees my point. He also thinks Ms Draleen probably wears magical items that mask her true alignment. This makes sense to me.

Do you think Paladins can belong to this order? The way PFS is, I'd hate to make a character in one group, and then have a different GM tell me it isn't allowed.

Thank you for your opinions, I look forward to reading them.

Also: are there rules in play for leaving a faction?

Grand Lodge

What are the limits in this switch?

Can I change my characters name? Gender? Class? Race?

Grand Lodge

I have decided, for me, some kind of divine spellcaster is best for PFS.

1) I love dwarves. Dwarves are good at being Clerics/Inquisitors/Warpriests.

2) my first PFS game had no divine magic, and had no tanks. Clerics/Inquisitors/Warpriests cover both roles and are "always useful" (even if there are others like them in the party).

I had a lot of fun in my first game, BTW, and I totally circumvented the final boss by thinking outside the box. My GM literally said "I'm doing mental backflips about this! You totally rocked this encounter with what you did, and I'm just disappointed I can't give you anything for it."

:)

Grand Lodge

I get why Weapon Finesse is recommended, but a Rapier has the same exact stats as a Scimitar. Why use a feat to use a Scimitar when you can use the feat on something else instead and just swing a Rapier?

Am I missing something?

Grand Lodge

Do you need any special qualifications to choose this stuff in your starting equipment?

I'm specifically looking at four-mirror armor. Not knowing what it is, I looked it up on Bing (Bing Rewards FTW!), and the description says it was historically worn in both Asia and Europe. Weird.

Grand Lodge

You guys have been so helpful with my newbiness (LOL), and I am going you can help me build a nice reach warrior.

I'm playing PFS for the first time Sunday, and I am partially inspired by the combat scene between the Viper and the Mountain (Game of Thrones, season 4). Not looking for the same exact character, mind you. It's just that using a long pole weapon inspired me. :)

What's the best pole weapon warrior build you can think of? The more details, the better for me (I still won't have my own Players Handbook until next week).

Thank you!

Grand Lodge

I know builds change as time goes by (with added feats and errata and stuff).

I'm trying to build an effective character for my first PFS game. I am very new to Pathfinder, and most of my D&D experience is in 2nd edition.

I have been trying to do some research scouring these boards and the Internet for some good advice.

I have concluded that a "switch hitter" is a very good build theme for me. The idea is to be proficient at ranged attacks, and even better in melee - soften up the enemies as they approach and finish them with a Falchion if they get class enough. The versatility of the build appeals to me.

Anyway, I have found some good advice on this matter, but I wanted to run this by you guys who have a fresh look on the game before proceeding. The last thing I want to do is gimp my first character.

Anyway, my build ideas are as follows:

1) Ranger in medium armor, probably 14-16 DEX, chooses the archery Ranger path, but concentrates on melee feats (power attack, cleave, ect.). The added skills are a boon.

2) Fighter in medium armor. This guy gets so many feats he can afford to be versatile (but can he? Is there enough feats to be good at multiple styles?). With INT as a dump stat, this guy won't have many skills (but does it really matter?).

3) Slayer. This class seems to be a lot like the Ranger, but I get the impression I won't be getting quite as many feats. Not sure how true this is.

I look forward to your replies and advice. I'm definitely open to other build ideas, as well as racial, feat, and skill advice. Thank you for taking the time to help out a newb.

Grand Lodge

I played my first Pathfinder game today. It was fun. I liked the group a lot.

Next Sunday, they will be playing Pathfinder Society.

The DM for next week gave me an idea of what this is about, and I was told to register on this site.

Please let me know how. Thank you.

Grand Lodge

A little history: I'm 39, started playing basic D&D in the 80's. Played 1e and 2e, and a tiny bit of 3e, then stopped.

I have recently played a couple of sessions of 5e as well.

Anyway, I'm playing my first Pathfinder game in a few hours. I am pretty much settled on playing a fighter. It's always been my favorite class and I figure I may as well stick with what I know.

I'm aiming for a versatile character, not a one-trick pony. After searching these boards, I think that means going with a character who can switch from a two handed melee weapon (I keep seeing falchion mentioned, but I don't know what that is) to a bow easily.

I was told I will start at 2nd level. I was told to use 20 points to create my character. I was told to take 2 traits from the trait list (one of each kind).

I don't normally do this, but the rules are overwhelming me right now.

Can anybody help me pick out some traits, some stat advice, some racial advice, and/or give me any other kind of advice?

I'm not asking for some "ultimate build" here. I just don't want to bring a gimped liability character to my first game.

Thanks!!
