Serin walks near the front, making himself an obvious target.

Serin chuckled a bit at Pazeek's joke. He suddenly felt like the outsider that he was, and hoped that after he assuaged their mistrust, such camaraderie might include him. He observed them all as he ate, trying to learn their manners and moods.

"I'm no engineer, sadly."

Serin will probably stay towards the front of the group, as he is meant to hit and get hit.

Also super congrats on engagement!

Serin took her hand, his shake firm without exerting any painful pressure. He gave her a smile full of appreciation.

"It's no less than most of my kind deserve, I'm sad to say. Your apology is unneeded, but appreciated deeply. It's my hope that we will find we have more in common than not...and it is my truly my pleasure to make your acquaintance, Bree."

Serin bowed deeply to the dwarf.
"I will do everything in my power to ensure none come to harm."

Serin nodded at Pazeek's words. It was good to know.
"I should share as well. I am a Paladin of the Inheritor. I can channel Her holy power to heal myself and my allies. Fear cannot overcome me, for I am blessed by Her valor. I am skilled in the art of combat, and can channel some of Her divine power to better smite my enemies. Through prayer, She also shares the bounty of her magic with me."

Serin took no offense at the casual threats. He had expected far worse.
"I do highly suggest we delve into these ruins...I believe Iomedae has guided me, and you, here for a reason. I think something is waiting for me there..."

Serin will heal up, then he's ready for some ruin spelunking!

"I have a suggestion, if I may. Perhaps you should shackle me? It might comfort some to see me in such a state, and perhaps it would ease any explanations you must give."

In one fluid motion, Serin drew his Falchion, planting it in the soft earth and kneeling. He addressed the one that had been identified as Octavian.
"To your enemies, a blade. To you, a shield. Forever I shall be, until the Inheritor calls me to her side. I swear it by the God that died. I swear it on the Goddess that lives. I swear it upon my honor and my life. I swear three times, and thrice am I bound."

Serin, from his kneeling position, looked at the woman who still had an arrow pointed at him.
"I do not pretend to know what injustices you have suffered. But I will do whatever I must to earn your trust. Strip me of my weapons, question me through whatever methods you desire. Use me as a beast of burden. I will sleep with the horses. Use me to mend your garments or tend your wounds. Do whatever you wish, only allow me to prove myself your ally."

"Uh...are you all right?"

Serin regarded the Tiefling, considering his words before answering.
"Truthfully, I don't know. All I can tell you is that that is not who I am, nor who I have been. There is right and there is wrong in the world. It is not hard to see which is which. It is easy, however, for people to be swayed. To be told by those in power that the reason they are poor farmers is not because of the rapacity of their noble overlords, but instead is because of the Elf down the street. It's easy to sway people to fear and hate that which is different from themselves. But I never have. My wife was Elven...and she was taken from me by the same people that have taken things from you. It was at that moment that I realized that if I didn't do everything in my power to ensure that no other living being suffered what I suffered, then I would be living in a hell of my own making. It was in that moment that Iomedae chose me, guided me here. There has to be a better way, and I believe that together we may find it."

Serin paused for a second, and anger crept into his voice.
"But there are those who will refuse a better way. Those that told a common man that his strife was with others that simply look different...for them, I shall hold no mercy. Only justice."

Serin reacted not at all to the kitsune taking aim at him.
"I'm sure you all have had...difficulties with those in power. So have I. I ask merely that you judge me by my words and deeds, and allow me a chance to prove my good intent. I think we can help each other. I believe we are meant to help each other."

As he spoke, Serin moved his hand slowly to his leg. A small flash of light bloomed from his hand, and his wound mostly knit itself back together.

Lay on Hands: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 4) = 10

Serin regarded the beings arrayed before him. Diverse, to be certain. He was heartened by the fact that they hadn't just run him through! Deciding that he wanted appear unthreatening, Serin slid his Falchion back into it's scabbard.

He thought for a moment about what they would see. Him, caked in the dust and grime of the road and now his own blood. Disheveled, eyes bleary from lack of sleep. Not exactly the best first impression.

Serin chose his words with care.
"Aye...others of my ilk are not popular. And rightfully so. What they are doing is an abomination, and one I've decided to take a stand against. I was guided here. I'm looking for relics of my goddess, Iomedae. I believe I'm going to need these in the battles to come. I'm going to need these, and, if what I've seen is true, you're going to need me. I came here to join you against the humans, if you'll have me."

Pazeek:
A tall, strong and handsome Human male in a breastplate is fending off two Jaguars with a Falchion.

"I mean none of you harm! Indeed, I hope we may be friends! I'll be happy to explain when giant bloody cats aren't trying to have me for lunch!"
Serin put all of his sincerity into his voice. He had no desire to hurt any of his potential allies.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28

Serin had been so intent on following the group that he hadn't noticed the danger until it was too late. His driving goal, his need to serve Iomedae, had distracted him. It would be a humbling lesson...assuming he survived to learn it. His weapon hadn't even been drawn when the animals attacked.

They possessed cunning, avoiding his armored torso and raking him across his left leg. Serin drew his Falchion, warding off their advances as best he could and looking for a wall to put his back to so that he wouldn't be taken from behind.

Hey there guys! Good to be gaming with you all!
GM, I updated to level 5, stat-wise. Let me know if I'm missing anything! Sorry if I'm a bit scattered, I'm getting ready to move :p

Excruciation is a Chelish thing. Not fun.

I see what you did there...*groan*

That's always been my opinion of them, as well. Aasimar and Tiefling can have distant celestial or infernal ancestors, so even though they manifest those traits, I've always viewed it as just a recessive gene. Doesn't make them live any longer

Still here still want in!

Step 1) Monks
Step 2) Mage Armor (and eventually Barkskin)
Step 3) Profit!

Made my secondary character. @MordedofFairy, my base account is ElegantlyWasted, first submission was Lorik Aulamaxa.

This guy has his crunch, ten minute background and background all done.
The idea behind him is to go battlefield control and buffing with arcane magic and healing and buffing/debuffing with divine. I'm figuring three Gestalt levels of Wizard/Cleric and then going Mystic Theurge. I'll miss out on some class features but I like advancing spellcasting as both. As far as fitting in with teams, basically he's there to make others shine. He's never going to pump out tons of damage but will summon monsters and lock down enemy movement while making sure his team stays healthy and free of negative conditions.
Socially, he's there to build a community. If people are having trouble working together, he'll be there, and if someone's moral compass ever starts wavering, well, he'll be there.
