maybe Able Learner would add the INT bonus on skills. As it has to do something with the intelligence to learn. so i think that makes sense?
low int = less points with able learner.
you could add a INT bunus (+ 1 point per time the feat is taken)

lots of yes no but no yes no but if yes no if if...
i would keep it simple. in my game i would simply expect a well described action on how he/she wants the character attack.
if i can imagine it and it makes sense i would make an exception (but also add some difficultys)

although all possibilities are all good and well, as a dm you can move heaven and earth. so giving a familiar would be possible too.
if you like you can make him do something (roleplaying wise)to gain it.
i still think that rukes are made to guide the players and GM.
not to force someone to play almost the character he or she envisions. But then... some people like the rules to be explicit. even in a fantasy world ;)

i would take notice of the fact that the rogue isnt playing a role. i keep track and when a session ends the characters get no added incentives for great and compelling roleplay.
i ask for descriptions and want my players to be a grumpy, frivolic or typical loudmouth. play your character gains you more with me then rolling a few dice and such. the dice are mere tools to keep things going.
i always favor role well played above a good dice roll.
the rogue should be annoyed that a monk. A Monk!?!! wants to do his job. buzz off and go meditate you handwrapped fighting monkey!!
thats what i would expect. much more fun and way more realistic.

Are your dhampir characters evil?

... Heck, I could even see playing a dhampir paladin who hunts undead.

Grinn... yes... i would like that :D

No they are not evil. And the paladin is a stubborn dwarf who judges people by their actions so... in a sense he says already the right things. :)

We just started that same AP and our group has a dhampir summoner, a paladin, and a cleric of Pharasma.

nice.. i like all those fun combinations!

There will probably be a lot more problems with the sorcerer who wants to delve into Things Man Was Not Meant To Know.

Sorcerers ... almost as bad as oracle lore or wizards ;)

I would remind the paladin player that while the dhampir are tainted by undeath, they are not truly undead, just kinda cursed.

he wanted to aid with bunny band-aid's so i think where ok there :D

Thanks for your reply!

The Dhampir aren't TECHNICALLY undead...

It can make for some interesting roleplaying and dramatic tension, but only if the players are mature and creative enough.

My idea.. they (story writers) also warn that it will be a more challenging play. The players are PbP and i know some of them The ones i do know are fully capable of running the show. (they didn't engage in a fight with each other... yet)

Some groups would have great fun with it, but others would turn to infighting, both in and out of character. You know your group best, if you think they can handle a little tension, then have at it. The module is designed with Dhampir in mind, so that in itself shouldn't be too disruptive to the overall story arc.

Thanks for your response!

It helps me to bring things into perspective.

Hello,
I'm in progress of starting up an adventure path and i ran into a silly trap.
two of my players wanted to play a dhampir as they are mentioned in the player guide. So i allowed them to play that race.
now i know there are challenges in playing such a class and i am sure that the players are up to the roleplay.

but...

One of the other players wanted to play a paladin. no big deal you would say. He is against Undead (oathbound vs undead)

So as a DM i have a challenge. I already had a challenge with the damphir versus all the evil they have to fight. but now the challenge is even bigger.

i can simply disallow the damphir, but to me that would be a no-no. Just like ruling out the core class paladin. also a no-no.

i see the party as somwhat similar to the "buffy the vampire slayer" or "angel". good and evil working together for a greater goal.

i'm not going to rule out anything, but i would like to hear what other players or dm/gm might have to say as advice about a similar situation. (in relation to the carrion crown adventure path)

Nope. Azlantis just get a flat +2 across the board to every stat.

Thanks!

i just wanted to make sure.

It functions however you like; the mechanics are merely called "Challenge", but you can flavor it any way you wish.

:-)

first, thanks for answering me.

When i would be the DM in that game i could. But... i am not.
It made me wonder about how usefull the challenge would be. In this particular case the DM ruled that the enemy would probably not care to answer the challenge (bieng a big dumb hulk kind of figure 'me smash all ba bla'. (and not answering the challenge ment therefore mitigating the effect of a challenge)

It just made me think... If i could only challenge honorable men... then i would not have much use of a challenge.

Hi,
a question about a cavalier challenging a enemy:

When a cavalier challenges a enemy, does the enemy have to answer to the challenge? or is the enemy challenged anyway?
In some cases (like hitting another knight with the glove to challenge, the other one has to respond to the challenge, a somewhat classical approach and only usable in very specific situations)

Personally i would see it more like this:
recalling a scene in 'first knight' (just as an example) where the hero (lancelot) challenges the enemy (malligant) without words and continues to move pushing and fighting through a bunch of people to get to the enemy there is clearly a similar form as i would believe the system intends to work.

thanks!

Cool :-)
Kudos to Louis Porter Jr. Design
it's rare to see that someone actually responds to gamer complaints and more rare to see that the creator actually responds to the complaint with a fitting solution. or even is willing to discuss it.
i guess that's one of the main reasons i like products sold on this site, besides the exceptional good quality of all their products.
i'm just going to buy this big 400 page ink eating thing becasue of that. Oh and because i like big documents with lots of stuff in it.

yeah i know.. i'm weird... but i guess LPJ doesn't mind, paizo doesn't mind, my gamers definetly don't mind, my wife minds, but i don't listen to her (when its about gaming). so.... euhm... lets see those spells.

aaah. so i need 200 players in my game to get a good average?

LOL...
and what happens when his potion isn't "enlarge"? it says it is... but... where did he buy it... "feeble and flunk's marvelous potions"?

I love this product. and i use it very frequently.
it makes my gaming more easy and i can concentrate more on the game instead of calculating numbers.

The creator is looking for a person with a mac to create also a TOS version for MAC.
so contcat Richard if you like to help him with that!
