"I can perhaps provide some force, though it is a twisting of the weaves that causes it to function. That said, amplification is a trickier task. I can cast it as many times as needed, but not in some augmented form"

Maffei ponders for a moment, before thinking out loud.

"What would the risks or harm be, for targeting the window but not destroying it in the first attempt? I could try my magics, and see if there is enough strength to damage the portal. Even if it takes all of my energies, small amounts of damage should eventually add up- IF we have enough time."

Maffei moves around, following the leaping catlike shadow around to the east of the creature. Setting her feet, she drives her scimitar into the side of the snake.

Taking a cue from Irlana, Maffei scrambles- up blade in hand- to help disarm the low tech alarm and prevent any future risk.

Glancing out across the grounds, she mentally traces their steps through the monastary- attempting to figure out when, and where, they might have been seen and identify any future threats.

Upon seeing the alchemist bring the vial to her lips, Maffei swings out at her arms with the scimitar in her hand.

Maffei sees her moment and takes a chance- arching and flexing in ways that wouldn't seem possible, she attempts to move past the alchemist to end this retreat.

Yea, I don't know. My herolabs lapsed so I can view the character but it doesn't let me edit things to figure out what I did wrong when I built her.

My stats section has been updated and will go from there. Sorry! I play mostly 2e now, so some of these specific 1e things have left my random access memory.

She's actually a great character and I love the way she is built.

Sorry for the continued confusion regarding Maffei's stats. I built her in hero lab and it seems like my math and the stat block don't line up, even after accounting for the negative levels.

Going back to your stats:

CL 2, DC 17. Two negative levels.

So healed, she should be CL 4 and DC 19?

did you account for Maffei’s constant blur? That would be a 20% miss on each attack. If all three attacks hit, am I dying or just unconcious? She would have fallen unconscious as soon as her non-lethal = her lHP remaining, but I am not sure of the timing lethal vs non-lethal.

Maffei swings in retaliation, nearly landing a devastating blow. She quickly follows the creature across the room and swings again- the blade finding a sensitive spot. She pulls out the blade, and examines the wound to see if the creature bleeds.

Seeing the creature, she backs down- hand signaling the shaman to follow her back down the staircase. Once safely at the bottom, she explains the situation and draws a rudimentary map.

"I think its better for us to be in the same place at the same time. I don't fancy my odds against this thing 1 on 1. We may give up the complete surprise- but with 5 of us it will be a much better fight"

Plan: Maffei would be happy to try and get a sneak attack round, but only once the others are close enough to participate in combat

No intentional deceit, sorry! DC 22 is what herolabs gave me when I built her. I could go back and try to back-calculate the math on that though to confirm or deny. The difference between my HL and the slide for her appears to be CL 2 vs CL 6 on the spell-like ability.

Despite her planning, the flash seems to have significantly less impact than Maffei had hoped. Despite the hang-up, she moves into the space, sliding to the door and attempts to unlock or otherwise open the main entrance to the gate.

My initial intention was to cast and move (standard/move) but am now remembering that PF1 has a single surprise action, and that is why Maffei is still outside..

Maffei looks left and right, trying to determine a potential entrance through, into the chamber. She coalesces shadow around her and she moves it through the arrowslit and into the room before it explodes in a 10 ft flash of bright light, targeted to get as many kobolds as possible in it.

Lesser Shadow Evocation (at will): Burst of Radiant Light, DC 22:

You tap energy from the Plane of Shadow to cast a quasi-real, illusory version of a sorcerer or wizard evocation spell of 2th level or lower. Spells that deal damage have normal effects unless an affected creature succeeds on a Will save. Each disbelieving creature takes only one-fifth damage from the attack. If the disbelieved attack has a special effect other than damage, that effect is one-fifth as strong (if applicable) or only 20% likely to occur. If recognized as a shadow evocation, a damaging spell deals only one-fifth (20%) damage. Regardless of the result of the save to disbelieve, an affected creature is also allowed any save (or spell resistance) that the spell being simulated allows, but the save DC is set according to shadow evocation’s level (5th) rather than the spell’s normal level.

Non-damaging effects have normal effects except against those who disbelieve them. Against disbelievers, they have no effect.

Burst of Radiant Light:

This spell fills the area with a brilliant flash of shimmering light. Creatures in the area are blinded for 1d4 rounds, or dazzled for 1d4 rounds if they succeed at a Reflex save. Evil creatures in the area of the burst take 1d4 points of damage per caster level (max 5d4), whether they succeed at the Reflex save or not.

Each Kobold gets an initial DC 22 Will Save to disbelieve (Success = 20% total effect. Fail = 100% total effect) Then they get a DC 22 Reflex save for blinded vs dazzled for 1d4 Rounds: 1d4 ⇒ 1. If Evil, take additional Damage: 5d4 ⇒ (4, 2, 2, 3, 4) = 15

Immediately after the flash, Maffei will climb through the arrow slit Amorphous Body Stealth: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (16) + 18 = 34 + 10 if low light/dark in the room.

I was more suggesting that Tanssi could get her easily over the wall, and back- not necessarily flying around above the tree line or drawing attention

"Let me look around tonight after dark. If things are clear, I say we go in later tonight, under the cover of darkness. I should at least have a clear way scouted for us..."

I vote Maffei spends a little time exploring in the dark, and then leads the team through the safest path to the tower. Secure the tower, and then move on from there.

GM. What would be the easiest/most efficient way to handle a consistent/steady search? I am happy to make several different rolls and allow you to apply them as they happen. I just don't want to drag out a lengthy "explore" scene if that is not necessary.

"First ye be heading inland to the lagoon ter find the start of the trail. Follow it up the ridge and back around ter to peak. Thar be a ruined temple, uninhabited fer as long as anyone can remember. That be where ol' Warvil left the last of the horns."

"I can be getting yer close to the mouth of the lagoon, but the Magpie be to big to make it much past them rocky shores."

As Craigie reenters the Captain's quarters, Hinsin is in the process of leaving. He, too, has a broad smile across his face and is whistling a simple melody. As you pass, the steward gives you a nod of the head before heading back below deck to hurry the crew.

Captain Varossa is sitting at the table in her quarters, but the two pieces of the horn appear to be stowed back in her dresser. She looks up from a page of notes as Craigie reenters.

"Aye, so we be good to ship off? Fer the best anyways. We be heading to Warvil's atoll and finding the last of the horns. I be thinking it'll only be 3 or so days- less something unexpected happen in route."

Even after, 'e kept using the forsaken place to store his booty... in e' abandoned monastery. Once ye grab that fer us, Jemma Redclaw's treasure be as good as ours!"

It is another day at sea before Captain Varossa calls you back into her cabin under the poop deck.

"Best be making our plans. I be expecting the shadow of Kelizar any day now. He sank the Saber's Kiss and I be quite sure he be capable of doing the same to me old Magpie. I ain't be dumb enough to be stealin' from no drake, but the second of the Reasons to live likely be in the wreckage of that bloody ship."

"Once that wrym shows up, I'll be leaving the negotiations to you. Which one of ye want to be the Captain in me absence?"

The Captain looks down as the door opens, and you see a moment of hope in her eyes.

"Yes. Boarders! We be needin' ye hands. Head to the foremast and be helpin' Yamity get down dem sails!"
