On the odd chance that this isn't dead...

Just a heads up, I will be out of town starting tomorrow until this Saturday. I should be able to post from my phone, but if we get into some sort of combat I will probably need help with the map.

Maybe...

It's dicey. I'll do whatever I can to keep up posting, but just wanted to warn you.

"Theese eis a very good question!" Rolf's face brightens. He casts detect magic and scans the area for magical auras.

"Who eis wanting to carry theis?" Rolf holds up the cold iron longsword. "Theis kind of metal eis good for keeling certain critters. My people use them for keeling the Linnorms of the north. Good for fey too." He states as if the others had never realized such a thing.

If no one takes it, Rolf will stow it, just in case we need it.

When they reach the dying old kobold, Rolf listens intently, but keeps to himself. He makes mental notes of the warnings given to them, mulling over what he could possibly mean by bats being harbingers of lunacy and chaos.

"Best to make minds hard like steel." he screws up the adage.

When the others are ready, Rolf gets ready to follow, his crossbow loaded and up, just in case.

I am game to keep playing. I am enjoying this character quite a bit actually. I understand how hard it can be to post when you overcommit. Especially when you are a GM. GMing is very time consuming on PbP, and it isn't easy.

Don't keep the game going only on my account. Everyone needs to assess their own situation and ability to post. Kudos to you Tabin for recognizing that and not forcing it.

GM, if you are in and willing, then I am a willing player. No hard feelings though if you decide you can't.

"Get out of there Jaeqil! Those turtles peerhaps are liking plants more than meat!" Rolf calls out, unhelpfully but with worry in his voice.

Rolf reaches back to his backpack and tugs on the slipknot holding his coil of silk rope in place. He takes a careful step backward to get out of the way of Tabin coming into the room, already feeling bad for tripping the Ghoran up.

Rolf tosses the coil of rope down towards the fallen warrior and loops it around a stone he hopes is stuck solid in the floor, and prays to Kurgess he is strong enough to help Jaeqil climb back up.

Up to you GM on how you want that action economy to play out. I figured move action to grab the rope, move/standard to toss it down to Jaeqil, plus a 5' step. Rolf is not strong, but he is hoping to give Jaeqil whatever help he can to get away from the snapping turtles. He figures that Tabin can take care of the last kobold, and is comfortable in his evil eye giving them the edge they need.

Rolf snarls as he stands up, mud caked to his robes and hands from the fall. He looks at the same kobold with his blue gaff and narrows his eyes. Suddenly that blue gaff feels a little unsteady in the kobold's hands.

Move action to stand, Standard to evil eye blue for -2 to hit, DC 15 again. I'll 5' step further into the room, even though I am terrified at what will happen when I eventually fall into the pool with the turtles... Would be interesting to see what would happen if we knocked a kobold in!

Rolf moves forward, worried that he might not have left enough room for Tabin, but needing to get close enough to help Jaeqil out. He pokes his head around the corner and gives the kobold with the blue leather wrapped polearm the evil eye. Evil eye for -2 AC, DC15 Will save.

Male Ulfen Witch 2 | HP: 15/16 | AC: 14 (13 Tch, 11 FF) | CMB: -1, CMD: 12 | F: +2, R: +3, W: +3 | Init: +9 | Perc: +6, SM: +0 | Speed 30ft | Spells: 1st: 3/3 (Hex and Spell save DC15) | Active Conditions: None

Rolf grins and leaves his right arm cocked behind him, spinning the dangerous vial in his palm. He follows Jaeqil in, staying behind the warrior and gets ready to chuck the fiery bomb.

Move action in, ready an action to throw the alchemist fire as soon as I see a Kobold. Is it a separate action to perceive for traps? If not, I'd like to roll a perception check.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

"I am theinking they are waiting for us to fall einto kobold traps. Peerhaps we are needing to draw them in somehow." Rolf purses his lips as he contemplates what to do. Eventually, he pulls an alchemist's fire flask from his pack. He walks ahead a little to prepare to toss it around the corner and quickly retreat behind Jaeqil.

Draw Alchemist's fire, then move up to corner (but stay behind it!) and hope there isn't a trap in that part of the hall... lol. Next turn my plan is to toss the vial then run back behind the front line fighter.

"I am coming Jaeqil!" Rolf says when he hears the sounds of inevitable combat. The skinny man grabs the rope and imagines lowering himself hand over hand, easily scaling down the rope.

Climb: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (19) - 2 = 17

What really happens is more of a controlled fall, with a few bumps and bruises and a minor rope burn on the palms of his hands.

"Where are they?" he looks briefly confused.

Move action, standing behind Jaeqil. I will ready an action to evil eye for Attack rolls the first enemy kobold I see. DC 15 on the will save...

"Jaeqil, Would you be beeing so kind as to go feirst?" Rolf asks, surprisingly eager to slide down the hole. "Or, eif you want, I could drink theis leetle potion here, deissappear and check out how the land lays." The ulfen wobbles his head back and forth as he presents a couple of options.

I'm happy to go first if I am invisible. Otherwise I am a bit squishy to lead the way down the hole. If we do decide the invisible witch option, I would just like to point out that we try to take as much advantage of that as possible.

Male Ulfen Witch 2 | HP: 15/16 | AC: 14 (13 Tch, 11 FF) | CMB: -1, CMD: 12 | F: +2, R: +3, W: +3 | Init: +9 | Perc: +6, SM: +0 | Speed 30ft | Spells: 1st: 3/3 (Hex and Spell save DC15) | Active Conditions: None

Rolf nods, clearly impressed by the little Kobold's presence. He simultaneously wonders how strong this chief might be to have subdued a kobold with this kind of command over such a creature.

Then again, the fact that she clearly has some power might have been the reason she was tied up in the first place.

Following the directions of the kobold, Rolf travels with the group, keeping his eyes peeled for hazards along the way. As soon as they get close to the ambush point that Nighttail has described, Rolf is studying the walls and other hiding points hard, expecting enemies to jump out as they work on disabling the trap.

"You are not necessarily wrong Tabein. But she eis a kobold after all. Notoriously not worth trust."

Rolf stops, dead in his tracks as the full realization of what he has said, coupled with what they are doing, settles in on him. He shrugs his shoulders and pulls out the wand of cure light wounds and taps Tabin on the shoulder twice with it.

CLW: 2d8 + 2 ⇒ (4, 5) + 2 = 11

"Sure, you can be having of your things back, once you have helped us weith what you promise."

Turning briefly back to the others, Rolf raises an eyebrow and passes along the information about the treasure trove in the bag. Peerhaps we are finding a way to keep theis stuff? he muses to himself, torn about possibly lying, even to the kobold.

Open the spoiler earlier about what Rolf finds. Some good stuff in there...

"Cheer up Jaeqil! We weill be keeling kobolds again soon!" Rolf says with a smile on his face, completely oblivious to how Nighttail might interpret his joyous attitude.

Male Ulfen Witch 2 | HP: 15/16 | AC: 14 (13 Tch, 11 FF) | CMB: -1, CMD: 12 | F: +2, R: +3, W: +3 | Init: +9 | Perc: +6, SM: +0 | Speed 30ft | Spells: 1st: 3/3 (Hex and Spell save DC15) | Active Conditions: None

Before unlocking the kobold, Rolf casts a quick detect magic to see if there is a diamond in the rough. After determining if there is anything of true value, he finally reaches down and unlocks the chains, cutting any rope bonds with his shiny mithril knife.

"You can be going first, show us the way. Make sure to be pointing out traps to eif you please. Peerhaps Rolf and Nighttail be good friends someday." The ulfen smiles.

Let's make sure we are healed up. I still have all 3 spells, so I am doing just fine to keep pushing deeper.

Rolf moves to unlock the chains, but waits patiently for Nighttail to answer his question about the Chief's intentions.

"Also, how far away eis chief now? We are maybe needing to catch breath before keeling chief and putting you in charge."

Male Ulfen Witch 2 | HP: 15/16 | AC: 14 (13 Tch, 11 FF) | CMB: -1, CMD: 12 | F: +2, R: +3, W: +3 | Init: +9 | Perc: +6, SM: +0 | Speed 30ft | Spells: 1st: 3/3 (Hex and Spell save DC15) | Active Conditions: None

Rolf nods his head, contemplating Nighttail's matter-of-fact proclamation. "Ok, I am thinking peerhaps Nighttail can help us." Rolf drops the sack in front of the bound kobold. "But you are steill needing to answer my question, I weill try defferint way. Why is Chief Ro-ag-haz making tools with slaves and where eis he sending them?" Rolf forces the enunciation of the chief's name.

Rolf won't act alone, need the party's buy-in. I'm happy to let Nighttail free to help us as long as the group is ok with it. I'm guessing we might not get the answer to this question until we confront the chief.

No worries. I am in a few games myself. Posting has been hot and heavy lately, but so far I've been able to keep up. I'll do everything I can to help keep things moving!

Male Ulfen Witch 2 | HP: 15/16 | AC: 14 (13 Tch, 11 FF) | CMB: -1, CMD: 12 | F: +2, R: +3, W: +3 | Init: +9 | Perc: +6, SM: +0 | Speed 30ft | Spells: 1st: 3/3 (Hex and Spell save DC15) | Active Conditions: None

Visions of an entire tribe of kobolds at his beck and call swarm Rolf's thoughts before he shakes his head, realizing it is foolhardy to begin with. The ulfen walks over to the sack and opens it up, poking around to see what is inside. While he looks, he continues to speak to Nighttail.

"Yes, you are right. Everyone eis not always appreciating talents of scale-skins." Rolf shows some empathy towards the bound creature. "Why eis Chief Roaghaz wanting to be here and making tools? He must theink he eis clever, but peerhaps not as clever as Nighttail I think. Why eis he here?" Rolf reiterates the question, holding the bag now as he squats next to Nighttail.

Male Ulfen Witch 2 | HP: 15/16 | AC: 14 (13 Tch, 11 FF) | CMB: -1, CMD: 12 | F: +2, R: +3, W: +3 | Init: +9 | Perc: +6, SM: +0 | Speed 30ft | Spells: 1st: 3/3 (Hex and Spell save DC15) | Active Conditions: None

"You are not taking me for sucker of thumbs are you leetle kobold? You are thinking we will let you go and you will be leetle healper for Rolf the Northman?" Rolf tries to pretend like it is a terrible idea. Logically, it probably is.

But something inside the witch whispers sweet nothings in his ear, about a powerful northman who can pull the strings of fate, and his little kobold servant. Maybe the idea isn't so bad after all...

"What eis it you think you can help us with? What eis your name leetle leezard?" Rolf tries, unsuccessfully, to stop thinking about adopting a lizard pet.

Male Ulfen Witch 2 | HP: 15/16 | AC: 14 (13 Tch, 11 FF) | CMB: -1, CMD: 12 | F: +2, R: +3, W: +3 | Init: +9 | Perc: +6, SM: +0 | Speed 30ft | Spells: 1st: 3/3 (Hex and Spell save DC15) | Active Conditions: None

"I can speek eit." Rolf says confidently in his 'e' heavy accent, not exactly inspiring confidence in his comrades. "Seems strange for kobolds to be tied up by their own kin, no? Pearhaps we don't get answers, but instead we get the right questions to ask someone else?" Rolf shrugs.

Kobolds by their very nature were evil little lizard vermin, and ending their lives was not something that made him blink or feel bad about in the least. But getting information that could be useful to things that have been happening lately, especially in light of the human prisoner's reports of being forced to manufacture things and take them away... Rolf's mind was spinning at what terrible things might be lurking a little deeper in the forest. As if they are stomping on an anthill, only to find a thriving colony hidden deep below.

As I mentioned above, Rolf will move carefully to make sure there isn't a trap along the way. Once he gets to the kobolds, he will remove one of the bindings around one of their mouths so he can speak and they can speak back to him. Rolf speaks Draconic.

"Qui te reliquit alligaretur hic quid? Esto mansuetus! Omnes amici tui aliis mortuis."

Draconic:
"Who tied you up and left you here, and why? Be quick! All your other friends are dead."

Male Ulfen Witch 2 | HP: 15/16 | AC: 14 (13 Tch, 11 FF) | CMB: -1, CMD: 12 | F: +2, R: +3, W: +3 | Init: +9 | Perc: +6, SM: +0 | Speed 30ft | Spells: 1st: 3/3 (Hex and Spell save DC15) | Active Conditions: None

"Theese eis curious." Rolf puts his elbow in one hand and the other hand up to his chin, tapping his lips with his forefinger. "Why now would kobold tie up kobold? Are we thinking they will give us answers? Why not find out?" he shrugs. He takes a step forward to walk over to the bound creatures before he remembers what happened to Primketh. Yea, I peerhaps would not have survived that."

The witch looks around the room as he makes his way to the prisoners, making sure there isn't a trap somewhere along the way.

I will un-gag them first so we can talk to them, I'll assume the others follow.

Male Ulfen Witch 2 | HP: 15/16 | AC: 14 (13 Tch, 11 FF) | CMB: -1, CMD: 12 | F: +2, R: +3, W: +3 | Init: +9 | Perc: +6, SM: +0 | Speed 30ft | Spells: 1st: 3/3 (Hex and Spell save DC15) | Active Conditions: None

Face red, brow beaded with sweat, Rolf's knuckles appear over the edge of the pit. He grunts and groans as he pulls, laying his head down on the floor as soon as he clears the edge as if it might give him more leverage to pull himself up.

Finally, Jaeqil finishes hoisting the ulfen out of the pit and Rolf rolls onto his side, his breath heaving from the unnecessary effort.

"Ha!" he laughs between gasps for air. "You deed not have to pull at all deid you?! I am good climber." he gasps as he raises himself to his knees and dusts off his robes.

"Leetle beet farther to go we think?" he asks, hoisting his loaded crossbow and raising his eyebrows several times suggestively.

Here we go!

Using the rope that Jaeqil is tying off, Rolf wraps the loose end around his waist. Testing it for support, he allows himself to be lowered down to the injured oracle. Once down there, he retrieves his potion of cure moderate wounds and helps his feline friend drink it down.

CMW Potion: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (7, 3) + 3 = 13

"Feeling leetle beit better?" he asks hopefully.

Male Ulfen Witch 2 | HP: 15/16 | AC: 14 (13 Tch, 11 FF) | CMB: -1, CMD: 12 | F: +2, R: +3, W: +3 | Init: +9 | Perc: +6, SM: +0 | Speed 30ft | Spells: 1st: 3/3 (Hex and Spell save DC15) | Active Conditions: None

"Nooo!!!" Rolf shouts as the catastrophic trap swallows his feline friend.

"Are you alive Preemketh?!" Rolf tries to keep the panic out of his voice, attempting to project calm. He fumbles for his potion acquired earlier and tries to figure out how to get it down to the agile cat.

"Jaeqil, I weel climb down eif I must..." Rolf hikes up his robes and spits on his hands, getting ready to slide down the side of the pit.

Jaeqil could actually lower me down quite easily. I can administer the potion of cure moderate wounds I have if Primketh is unconscious or worse.

Rolf smiles as the group of prisoners is released and follows the others to the bottom part of the caves.

"I have theese?" Rolf holds up his potion of cure moderate wounds.

If you need it Tabin, you can use that potion. I'm pretty sure we pilfered it somewhere along the line here... Not sure what others have.

Couple interesting tid-bits in that last post by the GM that I want to make sure we don't lose in the posting turnover...

"Big one as big as a dragon" - The girl makes it sound like Carlo is just exaggerating, but we shouldn't take that for granted.

They mentioned they were making tools and taking them away somewhere. We should try to figure out what that is all about.

Come to think of it, I should probably post this in character. I don't want to hog the spotlight though :)

"Are we being so sure we have keeled all kobolds? Peerhaps you should wait just a moment and we make sure all coasting is able to see through." Rolf nods back the way that the first group of kobolds had hidden when they entered the cave entrance, suggesting they make their way out that door.

We still have some stuff to explore here, but let's get these people out of here and make sure the way is clear for them. Everyone ok with going southwest from here and out the door we didn't come in?

"Wait just one second... how beeg eis dragon you say?" Rolf catches himself as the words sink in...

Rolf moves immediately to find the keys amongst the kobold's belongings to unlock the prisoners.

"Question while I unlock you," Rolf talks as he works, "How many kobolds do you theink are living here? Did you hear anything they are saying about plans and why they keep prisoners? Theis eis not seeming right for kobolds to do..."

"I was theinking that would take forever!" Rolf huffs, nearly out of breath.

"We are friends of leetle town here, hired by mayor to get rid of kobolds. Who are you?" Rolf asks, approaching cautiously towards the chains that bind them.

"What eis up weith yellow belly?! Pearhaps he is touched by lizard gods?"

"Pearhaps I need to shoot too? Maybe fate has made me unlucky against yellow belly." Rolf furrows his eyebrows, not willing to entertain this disturbing thought any further. He lifts his crossbow and puts the kobold squarely in the sights and squeezes the trigger.

Rolf sighs a contented sigh of victory over a lesser foe. He nods to the others as the yellow belly kobold is mopped up.

Just to make sure no one else gets hurt, he casts a simple cantrip on the lizard.

"Ok now eis time for yellow belly to tickle with fate."

"What, eis not tickle?" he asks, slightly confused at his mistake.

Shrugging his shoulders, he thumbs through the strings of fate until he finds the yellow kobold's string, and strums it with a sinister laugh.

Misfortune on yellow. Holy balls is that effective... :)

"You are steiking head out to make it easier for arrow and club to hit you!" Rolf shouts at the blue-eyed kobold that fate has frowned upon. "Haha! You are not smart Kobold! Teime for you to exit gene pool! We are like life guards of gene pool!"

Even his companions shake their heads at this strange reference that makes no sense. His odd, throaty laugh echoes through the chamber.

Now I'll do evil eye on blue, -2 AC. Cackle to extend. :) Thanks for helping me out with this! I'll get my witch legs under me yet... I'm glad you have such experience with the Witch, makes me feel better that I won't screw something up. :)

"Yellow belly eis sign of coward!" Rolf shouts, his laughter boiling in his belly and echoing off the chamber walls.

Misfortune on Yellow, cackle.

Sorry! I thought I posted earlier. Post is probably still sitting on my work computer, unsent. sigh.

Rolf looks over at the Ghoran, now surrounded by the yappy kobolds. "Hahaha! Stupid lizard rats theink they can overwhelm Jaeqil? Ha!"

The ulfen's laugh is unnerving. He furrows his eyebrows when he realizes that his accent caused him to send a small bubble of spittle on Primketh's back. He quickly wipes it off, playing off like he is patting his friend on the back.

The furrowed brows, however, seem to get under the scales of the kobold with the bright red warpaint.

Evil eye on red, cackle to extend!

Edit: Oops - -2 to attack on red if it works

Rolf scurries forward, standing behind his catfolk friend and looking over his shoulder. Suddenly the kobold with the magenta colored, leather wrapped weapon sees what looks like a catfolk with a second human head peeking out from the room entrance. Combined with the Gohran in front of him, he is thoroughly unnerved.

Misfortune on Magenta, DC 15 Will save

"Jaeqil, you are bleeding sap all over floor. Way more sap than usual. Seriously, you are not much of sappy guy. We should feix that..." Rolf looks around, wondering how exactly they will accomplish just that.

Good to go up the stairs as well, just want to make sure we get Jaeqil healed up, and will probably need to get that disease treated at some point.

"Bah!" Rolf snorts. He steps forward as he loads his crossbow, lifts it up and lines up the sights with yellow-toothed rat.

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
for damage: 1d8 ⇒ 6

Crit Threat! What??: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
for Crit damage: 1d8 ⇒ 4

I don't believe Jaeqil provides cover for the rat for either Tabin or myself. If he does, please adjust as necessary!

"Theis swarm needs theening!" Rolf shouts, worried they aren't doing enough damage and that Jaeqil might get overwhelmed trying to hold the line. Peerhaps I can help make sure he does not get bitten again... Rolf wonders.

"Eit does not matter eif you do not believe ein the sun. Eit weill steill rise ein they morning." Rolf's accent is thick as he narrows his eyes at the yellow rat. His rumbling battle laugh catches in his throat, turning into a shoulder convulsing cough, but the ulfen laughs through it anyways.

Misfortune hex on yellow and cackle to extend again. Will try to take advantage of the lowered saving throw and reduce it's chance to hit on it's next attack.

Rolf scoots back a couple of steps, knowing how awkward it can be to shoot a bow and arrow at such short range.

The battle lust in his ulfen blood surges again, the skinny northman unable to control his emotions. He lets out a peal of belly laughter, excitement for the fight bubbling over.

Cackle to extend the evil eye, hoping it will help with this upcoming color spray.

Rolf switches his wicked stare to the rat with the yellow frothing teeth. Evil eye, -2 to saves again.

Hey guys - sorry for the delay! I was camping and racing this weekend. Walking is a bit of a challenge today, but on the bright side I came in 3rd (of 9) in my age group and 23rd (of 85) overall - not a bad showing! Fun race - Battle of Waterloo (at the Waterloo Recreational area, southwest michigan) is what it's called. Gives a person a new respect for swimming through questionable waters... At one point I was fairly certain the lily pads I was swimming through were trying to tangle me up and pull me under... Fun times :)

Rolf scurries up with his teammates, putting a hand on Primketh's back to shake him out of his cat-in-the-torchlight look.

"Feilthy creatures, stupid rats." he mutters as he sees the newest foes. He furrows his brows, staring into the rotten soul of one of the disease ridden rats.

Evil eye, -2 to saves, DC 15 will save.

Rolf smiles and casts detect magic as the team moves about like a well oiled machine.

Rolf calmly walks around the room, using his mithril dagger to open the throats of all the kobolds, muttering to himself about just making sure in barely audible tones as he does.

"Job eis making kobold threat go away, What eis problem?" he looks up innocently at the others even though they don't appear to be questioning him.

After the grisly task is complete, Rolf begins to search the room high and low for anything of use before suggesting they continue moving through the cavern.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Might as well keep going up, where the majority of the kobolds we met at the entrance ran to (if we haven't already found them that is...)
