I like big beards and I can not lie
You other dwarves can't deny
When a girl walks in with a big thick waist
And hair all over her face
You get sprung
Wanna pull up tough
Cuz you notice that face was scruffed
Deep in the helm she's wearing
I'm hooked and I can't stop staring
Oh, baby I wanna get with ya
And take your picture
My homeboys tried to warn me
But that beard you got
Make Me so horny
Ooh, ain't got smooth skin
You say you wanna get in my clan
Well use me use me cuz you aint that average groupie
I've seen them smithin'
The heck with romancin'
She sweats, wet, gots whiskers like my uncle Chet

I'm tired of elven queens
With their smooth little things
Take the average dwarf and ask him that
Her face has gotta scratch, so
fellas (yeah) fellas (yeah)
Has your dwarf-girl got the beard? (heck yeah!)
Don't let her shave it, shave it
Keep that healthy beard...

Baby got beard...

Hairy face makes for dwarven beauty...

can be heard

Happy birthday, TOZ! Good job getting older!

Busy weekend for me. So busy that I didn't get a chance to respond to this thread until Saturday evening.

DrunkenTurtle wrote:
I was trying to figure the alias thing out, yeah. Sorry, for being slow with this.

You're not being slow. Paizo.com is an old, weird website. They've interlinked the functionality of their blog, webstore, and forums too much, in my opinion.

To make an alias, click "My Account" in the top right corner of the site. Hovering over it will bring up a menu of options, but you can ignore the menu this time. Just click "My Account," and you'll be taken to a page where you need to confirm your username and password before being taken to your My Account page.

Your account page has two columns of boxes. The third box down in the left column is called "Messageboard Aliases." Click the "Create New Aliases" button. You'll be taken to a page with a text field for an Alias name (with Paizo's suggestion that you'll probably want to replace). Put in your own alias' name, but it has to be unique. For example, when I created my alias for this thread, I originally wanted 'Nepka,' but someone out there is already using it, so I added an extra 'P'. If you want, you can then click the "Submit Changes" button, and technically be done. The new alias will appear in your "Messageboard Aliases" box and also in the drop down menu beneath the text field when writing a new post.

If you want to add an Avatar image for an alias, you can do so before you click Submit, or you can can do it later by clicking the Edit button next to your alias name in the "Messageboard Aliases" box. By default, the site will show you every single Avatar image available. You can narrow the available images down using the filters to the left, if you want. When you've found the image you want to use, hover over the image and click the "Select this Avatar" button that pops up. Then you'll need to click the "Submit Changes" button on the screen you're taken to.

If there's a limit to the number of aliases that a user wants to create it must be very high. There's a thread somewhere on the forums, for example, of users joking about having a race to create 400 aliases, and the guy who started it is at 529. Way more than anyone is likely to ever need.

Hi, this is Andostre. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed by the idea of trying to catch up, so I'm just going to focus on one step at a time.

GM Stargin wrote:

Stage 2 of character creation (Stage 1 was concept). Newborn.

Character Sheet step.

Put 0 in all attribute modifiers on a character sheet. These are your starting stats.

Roleplay Step:

You are a baby, the equivalent of an 8-month-old human child and you have just woken up from a nap. You are lying down.

• Describe what you see. For example, what does your sleeping area look like, who is around you?

I open my eyes and see the familiar sites of what I've come recognize as home. I have vague impressions that I used to have another home, but there was a long (and quite frankly, scary) journey with my parents to arrive in our new home. Mother is usually here, but father is usually not. I roll on my thin mattress that lies on the floor to get a better look around. Mother, father, and I all live in the same room, which also contains a few meager pieces of furniture. There are no other rooms in our home other than this one. When we leave the room, it is bright and noisy and crowded. The outside noise is constantly present even inside the home, but I feel safer inside the room despite the noise.

Quote:

Mechanics Step:

Having woken you want to practice all the wonderful things you have been teaching yourself to do. Exciting things like standing, and walking, and running. This is what you’re going to attempt to do.

Standing Up:
Standing up is becoming very easy for you as you have been doing it for a while. It is still not automatic though.

Roll a d20 and note the number that comes up on the top face.

Standing up: 1d20 ⇒ 3

Hi everyone! Happy to be here!

First off, thanks to GM Stargin for running this exercise! I'm looking forward to it!

Thinking of DrunkenTurltle... it looks like the post they made in the other thread is the only post they've made on these boards. I hope they're still around. Also, since they're new to these boards, they might not realize if they've been sent a Private Message. The little red dot is not exactly noticeable. I've made a post on their thread telling them about Private Messages.

About me: it seems like most of us, I'm well-experienced in D&D/Pathfinder. I've technically played 1st edition, but I don't always count that since we barely knew what we were doing. I was really into 2nd edition, and then 3.x, and then I took a long time off from RPGs before wanting to get back into it and discovering Pathfinder. In recent years I've had a hard time transitioning to a new system, because it's difficult for me to forget rules that are no longer being used. This is the main roadblock I've had to transitioning to PF2. It's been difficult for me to learn new rules when the old rules are still taking their place in my brain. I guess if I had more free time to devote to it like I did when I was younger things might be different, but with a career, family, an active social life, and other responsibilities, it's hard to prioritize learning a new system when I've got a perfectly fine system already in my head that I've been using for years. :)

That said, I have ventured into PF2 (not Remastered) a couple times. Both times were PbPs on this board. I played a grumpy dwarf rogue in a The Fall of Plaguestone game, and we converted a PF1 hoembrew game to PF2 at around level 8 or 9. I was playing a witch in that game, although there were some homebrew modifications to make the PF1 concept for my character work for PF2, including the mythic mechanics. Both games fizzled out.

I have a healthy amount of PbPs from this board under my belt, and as such I'm both surprised that I haven't played with any of you before, and pleased that I get to play with new people!

X card stuff: I like to think that there's not a whole of things that bother me, but ultra-violence without purpose doesn't interest me. It has to serve the story. Romance and sex in a PbP is also not something I'm interested in for my PCs. If it's in the campaign, I'd prefer it to be implied or for it to happen between scenes.

I am new to the play by post format, and was wondering if anyone would be interested in forming a casual, short-form game to help me learn the basics. Would prefer PF1, PF2, or D&D5.

Hey DrunkenTurtle! GM Stargin sent us all a Private Message with a link to the thread where he's doing the character creation exercise. I was thinking that since you're new to these forums, you may not know about this feature.

At the top right corner of your screen, where it says "My Account," you may see a red dot next to that. The dot means that you have an unread Private Message. Hover over "My Account" to open the menu, and click "Private Messages."

That's for if you're viewing on a desktop browser. It's similar if you're on mobile, but I can't remember if a mobile browser has the red dot or not.

I used to have the same recurring lucid dream when I was a kid. I would be floating amongst the skyscrapers of a city at night. Pretty high up. I would look down and see the car lights moving around as they drove the street grid below. Most of the windows were dark, but occasionally I would see someone inside their apartment or working late at their office. The first couple times I was freaked out and tried my hardest to wake up. The only way I could do that was to have my dream-self reach up and push my eye lids closed. When they'd open again, I'd be lying awake in my bed.

Eventually, I thought to make myself fly around above the city looking into the different windows, but nothing interesting happened that I recall. I stopped having those dreams after a while, but I don't really remember how old I was.

I feel like the thought of clerics not acknowledging other gods is a bleed over of our real-world religions. We have numerous religions claiming to have only one deity, and the recognition of other deities is heretical. However, Golarion has multiple deities totally cool with each other, and there's usually observable proof of some sort that deities other than the one you worship influence the world. Unless they are a known enemy to your clergy, I think that saying some sort of respectful prayer is appropriate.

Also, I don't recall if this is accurate for Golarion or not, but plenty of D&D campaign worlds have allowed clerics that worship a pantheon instead of one particular god, and that's what they pray to for their divine spells. Those gods either didn't care if some of the worship is spread around or they didn't pay attention.

Hi Haladir! Hi folks!

I'm board-gaming with friends tonight. The host sent out a video explaining how to play the game... and spending 16 minutes watching a pasty nerd's* YouTube video to learn a resource-management game inspired by a fishing village in Norway is not really how I want to spend my time. I mean, I get that getting people prepped so that the gaming can start sooner is a laudable goal, but these resource-management games are so technical and the theme isn't very engaging. Further, I'm probably only ever going to play this game once in my life (because I don't get to see this friend very often and he trades and acquires board games like they're baseball cards), and as I get older, it gets harder and harder to focus on things I don't care about.

* (I'm a hypocrite; I know.)

Sorry for the griping. At least I get to hang out with friends tonight.

Other than that, both kids have stuff going on this weekend, so we'll work the rest of the weekend around that. No other hard plans, though.

A few options, but I don't know which ones will be helpful.

PathfinderWiki.com has a Google Maps version of Golarion.

Here's an earilier version that used to be used by PathfinderWiki.com.

And the guy who created that earlier version has a few other Golarion globe models that might be useful.

@Everyone On the current story/scene, I understand that we're going to go to the temple and stop the presumed apocalypse from happening. As, if we don't, the adventure ends and here we have a clear reason to intervene with someone opening the door. The next shard is just coincedentally (?) there too. However... I do wonder, what real reason do we have to continue searching for the shards when we know from the prophecy that doing so greatly endangers the entire region if not the world?

Like, what is our in-character excuse as good/good-ish characters to ignore this and put essentially Sheila's curiosity and the prestige of the local lodge over the lives of an unknown number of innocents who will die because of it? That we want to make sure it doesn't fall into worse hands? That we are somehow convinced that we can stop this up to now eerily accurate prophecy from happening?

I know with the dungeon-crawler heavy aspect of this AP, character development isn't that much at the forefront and there isn't much screentime for it too. But I find I am struggling a bit to write Elena in such a way that she just takes it all in stride.

I think DBH has mentioned a couple times about how this AP assumes the PCs are a bunch of treasure-hunting murder hobos (aka "Pathfinders"), and as such, the story just assumes we'll keep riding this train. A lot of these earlier APs have this same issue (and then another issue, where they just assume that the murder hobos will suddenly rise up against a discovered threat to the greater good). I can see many traditional heroic PCs having trouble finding a roleplaying motivation..

I wrote Axton's motivations as pretty shallow, and that's helped me justify his willingness to go with the flow as we move from Shard to Shard. His fascination with Thassilonian magic is sufficient motivation for him to hunt the Shattered Star. What was Elena's motivation for joining the Pathfinders? I can't tell from her background.

It does not. When I converted from sorcerer to arcanist, I felt like it was to blatant to go from an ultra-high charisma to an ultra-high intelligence when in my mind I was supposed to be merging the two. But keep in mind that four points of that Charisma is from Axton's headband, which will get converted to Intelligence when I buy a new headband.

I'll add the Intelligence from the Tome when I add the Intelligence from the new headband at the same time since it will affect Axton's skills so much, and I'd rather do them together.

Speaking of which... DBH, we weren't supposed to level up at the end of this adventure were we?

So the cycle was: a quick rinse-off shower, 30 seconds to 3 minutes in the cold plunge, 5 minutes in the hot tub, and then 12 to 15 minutes in the sauna. Go through that cycle three times, and then finish off with one last dip in the cold plunge.

It was interesting, and I would try it again. Leaving, I felt weirdly relaxed and energized at the same time.

"And yes, a scroll of plane shift will take us back to Golarion, but it is unlikely to take us back to Kaer Maga. If we can leave this castle without further encounter, I expect the only obstacle we have to face is the rot grubs surrounding the menhir.

"So... fireball," Axton smirks.

When everyone is comfortable with him doing so, Axton uses mage hand to try to bring the Shard down.

Looking towards Axton, he points towards the west asking, "Is the shard that direction? We've dealt with the rider, are there any other antiquities we should collect for the Pathfinders before we get the shard and get out of here?"

Axton thinks for a moment before answering. "I don't know of any, but Maligast doesn't know much about the rooms beyond those doors."

Axton is pointing to the double doors that lead to C16.

"The Dark Rider's Naming Pool is there, which he used to identify his next victims in some manner. There are machines that Maligast doesn't know the purpose of, and there's a further room that Maligast has never entered that presumably contains the Shard.

"With so many unknowns about what we face, it feels prudent to me to nullify the Nuckelavee," here Axton points back to a room that they've already passed (C9), "so they don't come up behind us in case we're dealing with some further threat. The Nuckelavee and the Dark Rider had some sort of romantic relationship. They will be very cross when they see the Dark Rider's remains."

Since Cal is out of commission, I'll go ahead and ask:

Anything -- gaming-related or not -- going on with you folks this weekend?

Quib's working on his tan, it seems. The main thing for me this weekend is to maybe finally get the last of the Christmas decorations put away. They're not still up, but they're not put away, either.

I try not to use Facebook anymore, but I became Friends™ with DungeonmasterCal two weeks ago. (And thank you so much Facebook for sending me an email every frickin' day urging me to go see what memes Cal is sharing.) I noticed Cal hadn't posted his usual "It's Friday, what's going on?!" post in the So What's the Plan, Stan thread, so I held my nose and checked out his Facebook page. (I'm holding my nose because it's Facebook, not because it's Cal's page.)

It turns out that Cal went to the ER yesterday. I'm not entirely sure what's going on, but I think his head is being looked at because he fell. He has a couple other things going on that the doctors are treating. It seems like he'll be released soon, but he's offline for now until he gets out.

Just wanted to let people know. Swift recovery, Cal!

Waffles would certainly appreciate your worry, but let's see what DBH says to what I brought up in the Discussion thread, first.

As the group left the room with the rider, Elena knelt by the corpse of the shadow mastiff, once a summon from nirvana. Presumably, somehow, its soul had been corrupted and destroyed rather than returning to its home plane. "I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry..."

Axton stands a respectful distance from Elena.

"If it's any consolation, when an outsider dies, its believed that its soul becomes quintessence and returns to the fabric of the Outer Planes. Eventually it will take part in reincarnation. This soul was not returned to some shadowy evil realm like you may be fearing."

That's up to you. Whatever makes sense for the story. If you're not sure if it makes sense, do it anyway. Maybe Squakowk was running late, and makes a big scene just as the Abbot is about to speak. Maybe they've been there all along, and you just post as such.

It's basically however you want it, so long as it's not a gross impediment to someone else's enjoyment of their role-playing.

First the Dire Collar on Dusk, and now the negate aroma spell. Vibenia's so cool.

I didn't like not having a picture for this alias, so I found this one that's appropriate for an Invisible Man, even if Benjamin doesn't wear a domino mask.

Session Zero: I'm not vehemently opposed to anything, but if the campaign devolves too much into gore, violence porn, or too many overtly sexual situations, my interest will most likely wane. If it works to enhance the story, fine; if it becomes the story, not so much.

As far as the Invisible Man's ability to be in certain compromising situations, that's why I deliberately made him as someone trying to karmaically correct the ignoble actions of past Invisible Men.

I'm not really against romance involving my PC, but I won't seek it out, and I prefer it remain mostly between panels.

Finally, a couple notes for the GM:

1) Can we get a Gameplay thread up so that we do the ol' dot-and-delete so that this thread appears on my campaign tab?

2) Also, since this is a Universal Monsters campaign, I've recently learned that Cocaine Bear is a Universal Studios movie. I'm just going to drop that tidbit out here and see what happens.

Niadroub Kliip’s unkempt beard is blown up into his face as he turns around to look for the sound of the voice that addressed him. As he releases the reins of his horse to clear his sight, said horse — who seems to have been waiting for this moment — bucks and sidesteps, causing the arcanist to exclaim unintelligible curses and tumble to the ground. A small faerie dragon takes flight from Niadroub Kliip’s descending shoulder, trailing glitter and tittering laughter.

As the Grand Magister of the Republic of the Kamelands regains his feet and considers numerous violent retributions towards his horse, he notices the halfling.

”Sootskels? Thet was oos.”

Waffles, the aforementioned faerie dragon, alights on the saddle of the nearby treacherous horse.

”Sootscales? Who are they? It doesn’t sound like a halfling name!”

I turn 49 on Sunday, so we're getting together for that, and any presents leftover from Christmas and my son's birthday (Dec 28) that didn't get given out because we were travelling.

THAT'S why we haven't taken our Christmas tree down; because we were waiting for this weekend. Promise! It's not because we've been procrastinating.

But since it's my birthday, I get to choose the dinner. I'm thinking fajitas.
