Final touches done. Reynard Varvanyuk. Dex specializing Two weapon fighter, who can also handle ranged combat as well as melee and brings tracking/survival to the table.


All done and retooled. Went Two Weapon fighting ranger


Will work on getting this character de-leveled to 2. He's a dex build Ranger originally designed to be a crossbnow specialist but could easily re-tool for melee if needed.

Background:
Reynard was born to deal with monsters. At the age of 10 Reynard was struck with the oddity of the woman whose hut stood next to his father’s. Why did no one else see the dark things that crept over her house? Why did she look old occasionally, but only for a second?
Still no one believed him, so determined and courageous, the boy crept into the sweat lodge one feasting night and stood up, asking why a witch was allowed to live in the village. Was she good then?

That night young Reynard was on the receiving end of a merciless beating from his father, for causing such embarrassment. It was only a few days later, when one of the tribe’s Bards followed up on the boy’s claim, more out of thoroughness than an actual belief of the child, did it become clear that the boy had a gift for seeing through veils. A Hag had manipulated the minds of those living near, hiding in plain sight.

From that day began Reynard’s training in the arts of hunting and tracking, monsters.

Recent rumors of monstrous humanoid activity have drawn him to Sandpoint where he has decided to attend an inventor's convention, intent on upgrading his weapons.

Sliding back the reloading lever, Reynars sends another bolt streaking towards the injured goblin.

Spinning with the explosion, Reynards seasoned reflexes reach through the chaos, locking on to the small verminous creatures and firing a bolt and one of the cavorting shapes.

"There's more of them out there from the screams," Reynard says , replacing the clip of bolts in his crossbow "I think the little guy needs patching up then we should move to clear the little bastards out.....pardon the language father."

As the burning goblin falls, a heavy crossbow bolt comes punching into it's companion with enough force to take the little creature completely off its feet.

Spinning, eyes scanning the area for others in danger, Reynard lets fly at one of the archers attacking the halfling performer, his bolt punching into the back of the goblin's head and taking it completely off its feet.

As the vile little creature swings at his legs, Reaynard launches himself backwards into a somersault gaining a bit of distance. As he comes out of a backroll he fires into the goblin again.

With a growl of anger Reynard follows the movement of the vile little beast chasing the child, the bolt grazing the goblin as he loads another.

As the screams start Reynard curses under his breath, drawing a stylized heavy repeating crossbow, he ratchets a bolt clip into the weapon, eyes searching the panicking crown for the source of the chaos.

Reynard scratches his beard in thought for a moment.

"Looks like you're more perceptive than most. Been looking out for this town for a while and I've got a bad feeling running up the back of my neck." he says in a quieter tone.

Reynard raises an eyebrow, obviously surprised at the young woman's sense of awareness.

"Just making sure you weren't lost maam. Graveyard's not usually the best place for sight seeing, tends to make the locals a bit....twitchy."

He smiles disarmingly, the majority of his face shadowed by his hat as he stands at ease.

As Reynard wandered the booths enjoying the celebration,he took not of the newcomers to the area. Though he himself had only been in Sandpoint for a few months, he already thought of the community as his home, and so the number of strangers was something that stood out to him.

Off to the side, a tall man, possibly Quadiran, a stunning blond woman in full plate armor and a halfling musician seemed to be having some kind of argument, ending with the woman storming off.....toward the graveyard?

Odd.

In just a few minutes Father Zantus would be making his speech. Everyone would be watching, except for somone who wanted to take advantage of the opportunity.

Slowly, he began to work his way in the direction of the graveyard.

Reynard walked amongst the crowd, in his element. Wherever there was a busy, bustling community, he tended to fade into the background unless neeeded, years of practice and truly becoming a part of a town or city.

He njoyed the sights and sounds of the festival, the people of Sandpoint revelingin the opportunity to relax and enjoy something they looked forward to all year, and yet, he was slightly on edge.

His naturally suspicious nature, coupled with a sesoned danger instinct, meant that no matter how relaxed he was, there was always a part of him waiting for something bad to happen.

Maybe you're wrong this time. Heh....and maybe the swallowtail butterflies will fly off with the new catherdral too.


Why are they in Sandpoint for the Swallowtail Festival?

With tales of creatures like the Sandpoint Devil, Reynard’s instincts draw him to communities like Sandpoint, seeking to be there when something ugly rears its head. He seems to have an almost supernatural gift for being in the right place when things go very wrong.

What motivates them to do good deeds proactively, or at least oppose Evil while staying more or less neutral?

Having seen first hand the damage maurauding monsters and cunning evil creatures can do to a community, Reynard has devoted himself to protecting others from the dark creatures that would prey on the weak. He seeks to bring the hunt to the hunters.

What sets them apart from others of their race, class, and race-class combination?

Where do you see this character's classes going when we level up? Are you going to take a prestige class? Or stick with the base?

Most likely staying with the class.

Is there anything else that's important to know about this character?

Reynard doesn’t hesitate to leap into danger, most often with a grin, yet is one of the best people to be standing next to when it all goes to hell.

What posting rate do you hope to expect?

I’m fine with whatever develops, some games are fast, some slow, as long as we’re all having fun that’s all that really matters.

"Not a big fan of being jumped by zombies from behind."

"It's...someone we saved the day the coblins attacked. Baron Ramsbottom....he looks.....deformed somehow."

Reynard mumbles, his eyes still closed. He opens his eyes, image firmly burned into his mind as he looks at his companions.

"I knew the man was annoying but he looks completely insane now. If he did this we need to find him and put him down before he hurts someone else."

"Somebody camee here from the water, barefoot.", Reynard mutters. "The prints fade before the window, but that could just be the ground,or the mud on their feet drying up, and although it looks like an old break, there's freshly broken glass here."

Reynard shakes his head studying the scene.

"Whoever did this is human, or at least wears a human body. Looks like we may have an entry point.

He crouches down, closing his eyes for moment as he makes a motion with his hands, whispering words that sound exceptionally old while sprinkling a bit of plaster across one of the muddy prints.

As he completes the action he touches the footprint, fingertips connecting with the imprint, summoning the image of the trespasser in the moment they left the print, his mind being taken back to that night.

Reynard walks up the stairs, silently taking in thee room and it's gritty scene. He nods to the men taking notes, obviously documenting the crime scene.

He walks over to the bobby, putting a hand on his shoulder for a moment offering his support.

"No shame in it."

He looks at the body, ceremonially desecrated and growls quietly.

"This is the work of some sick bastard! Witz, the smell is stronger in the wounds, think its a tainted weapon?"
