I had minor sinus surgery which was sucky and painful but I breathe more like a normal person so that's nice. Playing a lot of Mass Effect 3 multiplayer. Probably the most fun I've had in a video game since...hell, I don't even know when.

Derp. Sorry, I forgot all about that.

Round 1, Initiative 12
Pateba, kill! Pateba rushes at the gnoll, huge jaws slavering.
As an animal, Pateba is not affected by the aura of unluck.

Bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 111d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Rashid moves into a flanking position with the fluidity of long practice with his beast.

Attack 1: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 91d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Attack 1: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 91d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Well hell.

Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Initiative 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

"It does seem strange that the goat would be tied here. But I suppose anything clever enough to set fire to wagons must also be able to tie a simple know, yes?

Rahid goes to the cliff edge to look below. Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20

Understood

"Who wants to try to corral an upset goat? I have had my fill of animals running wild today. I think I would just let Pateba eat eat it."

So are we in initiative now? What's the Pugwampi doing?

With the whole party through the mess of thorns, Rashid reaches within himself again for the healing power of Shimye-Magalla.

Channel: 1d6 ⇒ 5

Good roll! That should clear off any damage anyone took on the trip. 3 channels left today.

Maybe roll your other two checks, Ashad? Rashid won't go across until Ashad is done and Alem goes but I'll put my rolls below for convenience. I fully expect to fail them all.

Acrobatics 1: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (1) - 2 = -1

Acrobatics 2: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (13) - 2 = 11

Acrobatics 3: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (2) - 2 = 0

And there's 5 damage for me. Stinking thorns. Pateba's rolls below.

Acrobatics 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Acrobatics 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16

And 3 damage for Pateba.

"This is worse than useless. New plan. Pick your way through as best you can. I will come last and heal any hurt taken from these thorns."

"Ashad, can you cut through these with your sword? I do not think my spear will help."

Can we use my last scent roll to track or should I roll up new ones?

"Hurom found tracks leading away from the wagon. I have seen them also and Pateba got a good scent to track. With your permission we will follow them to the culprit. We would like to proceed with haste before the scent is lost."

I'm not religious in the traditional sense, but I did make up my own religion, worshiping Drunkonius the booze goblin that lives in the moon. Basically, I have a drink as a prayer for good fortune. My success rate is surprisingly high. So in that way, I'll have a bit of prayer for your family. Truly, my sympathies and best wishes for your family.

"Ha! Thank you, little friend. Be sure all your gifts to me are nice or you will be a snack for Pateba, yes?"

"We will report then, Garavel. But if we lose the scent because of this delay, it will be you who tells Mistress Almah why justice was not done here."

"Thank you, Zastoran. I must help with these tracks. Come, Pateba."

Rashid and Pateba go to investigate the tracks Hurom found. Rashid pulls Pateba's head down to the tracks and gets him a whiff of the pugwampi's trail. "This, Pateba. Find me this. Probably you can eat it." Take 20 to Push Pateba to do an unknown trick.

Pateba sniffs the area around the tracks and immediately picks up on the direction the creature fled. He pauses, almost quivering with excitement, to wait for his master.

"We should go while the trail is fresh."

survival: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20

Tracking with Scent rules:
A creature with the scent ability can follow tracks by smell, making a Wisdom (or Survival) check to find or follow a track. The typical DC for a fresh trail is 10 (no matter what kind of surface holds the scent). This DC increases or decreases depending on how strong the quarry’s odor is, the number of creatures, and the age of the trail. For each hour that the trail is cold, the DC increases by 2. The ability otherwise follows the rules for the Survival skill. creatures tracking by scent ignore the effects of surface conditions and poor visibility.

Hurom, we're not in a rush; maybe you should just take a 20 on Survival?

"I was glad to be of service, Zastoran. I am no stranger to wounds and in the Mwangi Expanse, even a scratch can fester and kill in days. It is a blessing from Shimye-Magalla that I can can heal with relative ease.

My companions and I have been charged with discovering the cause of the fire and the death of the seer. The old cripple, Dashki only yammered some nonsense about pugywamps or some such. I make no accusations, but it seems a skilled alchemist could make fire with ease. Did you have any dealings with the seer? Do you have any reason to believe the source of the wagon fire was alchemical?"

Rashid walks towards the alchemist, Pateba at his heels. Before crossing the last 15 feet or so to the man, he stops and studies him.

Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23

"We are not done, old man, but I tire of your evasions. Ashad, would you like to speak with the alchemist with me? It seems that if someone were to set a fire, an alchemist might have all the tools to do it surreptitiously."

"Old man, you try my patience with these pugwampis. I believe you are keeping something from me. You can tell me now or you can tell Pateba, but I warn you he is not a good listener. He is also hungry."

A 2nd intimidate roll if needed: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12

Ha! Good God, I know what that's like. Take the time you need. We husbands and fathers get even less done if we manage to piss off the wife and kids. =)

Intimidate: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15

Did I get anything from him with my Sense Motive roll?

"Just because you are first does not mean you are only. We will speak to the others as well. Now do not interfere with him as he examines your tent or I will have Pateba sit on you."

Pateba steps closer, leans in his massive head and takes two deeps sniffs of the man.

Rashid studies the man's face as he explains his behavior.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20

Rashid thwacks Kallit lightly on the head with the shaft of his spear. "I'll mystical rain stick you," he says good naturedly, smiling broadly. "I will talk to this man with you, if you like. Pateba makes people want to tell the truth. Especially if he's eating while they talk."

"In the Expanse, we use other methods than a deck of cards but I will not dismiss the telling of fortunes by any method lightly. If the card suggests an evil hand at work, we must pay heed."

"Hm. This is not something with which I have experience. With whom should we start? Has anyone with the caravan expressed any dislike or distrust towards the soothsayer?"

"Look over there! A cleverly placed distraction!"

Alem, you might want to revise your last post. There is no fire by the pens. I think Wulfson said the grasses near the pens "sprung to life" referring to my Entanglement spell and it's caused some confusion.

You talking about the pig or his wife!

I would just like to say that I think this has started awesomely. I think seeing how everyone attempted to fix their chosen issue has been enlightening and the RP and regular posting has been excellent. Looking forward to the rest of the AP with you guys!

"There, you see? Problem solved. Except for the one pig. We will get it later. Woman, please stop your screaming. It is just grass. It will not hurt you and it will be gone in a minute."

Rashid walks away, checks on Pateba, and then goes to the men who had been fighting the fire or pulling the wagon to see if any require healing.

I'll use another channel here if injuries warrant it. Just let me know.

My fault, I should have included a spoiler.

Entangle:
Range long (400 ft. + 40 ft./level)
Area plants in a 40-ft.-radius spread
Duration 1 min./level (D)
Saving Throw Reflex partial; see text; Spell Resistance no

DESCRIPTION
This spell causes tall grass, weeds, and other plants to wrap around foes in the area of effect or those that enter the area. Creatures that fail their save gain the entangled condition. Creatures that make their save can move as normal, but those that remain in the area must save again at the end of your turn. Creatures that move into the area must save immediately. Those that fail must end their movement and gain the entangled condition. Entangled creatures can attempt to break free as a move action, making a Strength or Escape Artist check. The DC for this check is equal to the DC of the spell. The entire area of effect is considered difficult terrain while the effect lasts.

Rashid growls in frustration. "This is ridiculous. I am a shaman of Shimye-Magalla, not a shepherd!" So saying, He thuds the butt of his spear into the earth and green light spreads in jagged lines from the point of impact. The grasses near him suddenly grow and wrap themselves around the feet of the animals and people.

Rashid hurries over at Hurom's call. A little distance away he orders Pateba to stay and guard. Pateba's strange smell might just panic the animal's even more. Besides, he is hardly a sheepdog.

Rashid uses the butt of his spear and the commanding voice he uses for Pateba to try and gather the animals together.

Handle Animal: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

Not quite enough but with some Aid rolls...

GM, since I'm pretty much done here should I offer help at one of the other areas?

"A moment, please." Rashid steps away briefly to retrieve his camel and Pateba. The lizard is well trained but he is uncomfortable leaving it alone unnecessarily in a strange place with all that is happening. "So what started these fires, then? This is a pretty terrible accident, if accident it was."

GM Wulfson, I had to rearrange my traits a little yesterday because we switched me from Erastil to Shimye-Magalla and my old Erastil trait no longer fit. I chose Good Dreams as I thought that a lot of my other choices already fully represented the nature bit from Gozreh and wanted to show some Desna-like influence somewhere. Is this an ok choice? Sorry I neglected to mention the change yesterday.

Rashid clasps the old man's hand almost without looking. "It was my pleasure to help, Zastoran. I am Rashid Ibn'Hazid. What were you unprepared for, Zastoran? I do not get the impression this was an accident."

Confident that the wounded will survive at least a while without further attention, Rashid scans the area around the camp for signs of further danger.

Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14

Damn skippy "And a dinosaur!"

He is the source of all my power.

Also this, this, and this.

Rashid knew immediately where he would be most useful. He turned to Pateba. "Guard," he ordered, knowing that his camel wouldn't dare move under the watchful eye of one of the great lizards of Mwangi. He rushes to the wounded men in Area C. Before he even gets close, he flings his arms out wide releasing a gout of magic, pure white entwined with green and blue. The wounded men (and anyone else within 30') feel cool waves and warm breezes against their skin as their wounds close

Channel: 1d6 ⇒ 1

Edit: And seeing how little he was able to accomplish so far from his adopted home, he tries again. Putting more effort into the magic he cries out, "Shimye-Magalla, surely your wind, water, and life can reach even this place!"

Channel: 1d6 ⇒ 4

2/6 channel used today

I can't use boon companion until level 4 when normal animal companion rules kick in. Right now he's got Pateba under a different set of circumstances. I might just reserve the feat for a level and get power attack at two.

Three questions:

1) What should my aura be. Shimye-Magalla, being a janiform god/dess has sort of two alignments.

2) How will you handle Handle Animal and tricks? Attack, Guard, and Down should cover most everything generally, and at level 4 he'll be getting an Int bump so Handle Animal isn't necessary at all.

3) I'm totally blanking on a second feat. Anyone have thoughts?

Yeah, they are pretty awesome. I'm kind of looking forward to her getting older, though. I'm going to train her like Hit-Girl.

Also, the crunch isn't totally done in his profile but I'm going to get it done before Monday for sure.

Hello everyone! I'm really excited to have been picked. I thought my idea might have been too crazy but I guess it was just crazy enough to work. Rashid was a priest of Abadar before going to the Mwangi expanse as a missionary and "going local." He is now a follower of Shimye-Magalla. He recently found out from the uncle that raised him that his parent had been killed by gnolls and that there would be an expedition to reclaim the town. He is accompanied by one of the great hunter-lizards of Mwangi (a T-rex!).

Rashid is a guy who has struggled to find himself. His uncle cared for him but was busy and had little real time for him. The church felt like a family but when he went to the Expanse, he realized how empty the pursuit of gold and civilization could be. Now he's returning to the country he left to find what he can of his parents and the town he grew up in.

I work in the public sector, I'm a husband of 5 years, and I'm the father of an 11 month old girl. I can manage a fairly aggressive posting schedule on weekdays and a bit on weekends, too. I'm in Maryland so eastern standard time.

I know that Rashid and his T-Rex are a weird choice for LoF but did you know that T-rex's have the strongest jaws of all time?

Are you aware of how awesome they are? They are awesome.

Rashid Ibn'Hazid has a profile page now. It is woefully incomplete but it's getting there.
