Welcome to the Out of Character Discussion Thread for my Legacy of Fire campaign. Please take the time to introduce yourselves and get accquainted. If you have any last minute questions to ask me, go ahead and I'll try to get back to you as quickly as possible.
Thanks,
V

I think I speak for all of us when I say that it is a pleasure and and honor to be playing with you all, and I'm stoked for this game! I'll be playing Alem abd-al-Hassan, recently freed slave and apprentice conjurer.

I'm a college student in Kansas, USA in the CST timezone. Due to my class/work schedule, I have intermittent breaks at odd times, but if nothing else I should be able to post in the evenings. Currently, I'm studying chemical engineering. I work part-time as a lab tech in a psychology lab, which is so much better than my previous job at Wal-Mart. I just got back from hanging out with some friends and playing Amnesia, and holy bejeezus is that game creepy!

Last minute question: what was your opinion regarding the summoning/binding outsiders rules? It's not really a big deal one way or the other, as the fluff would remain much the same, I'm just curious about your thoughts.

I will create an alias for Alem in the morning; for now, it's bed time!

Hell's Vengeance Battlemaps; Jade Regent Battlemaps; Kingmaker Battlemaps; Mummy's Mask Battlemaps

I looked over the rules and don't see anything wrong with them, although I think we've got a long way to go before you get Planar Binding.

Half-elf Ranger (Guide) 1 HP 12/12 AC 18.14.14 F+4.R+6.W+2 - Init. +4 - Perc. +11

Howdy all,

I'll be playing Hurom Ullah, embittered half-elf ranger and desert guide. He sees this expedition as a chance to use his skills in service of a goal he can be proud of.

I'm in Virginia, a full-time professional. Nevertheless, I have a lot of periodic downtime at work and can manage as aggressive a posting schedule as the group and our GM wishes to maintain.

This is my first PbP experience, and I am fairly new to Pathfinder and 3.5 as well, so I hope you'll bear with me as I make an inevitable mistake here and there - and please correct me, that's how we learn! Looking forward to playing with everyone, and thanks for putting this together GM Wulfson.

I'll try to get an in-game thread up this weekend and we can kick off the campaign on Monday.

Male Human (keleshite) Paladin 1

Hey there everybody.

I'll be swinging the mighty sword of Ashad al'Ahir, holy warrior of the most radiant Sarenrae.

I'm just a simple man, living in the backwoods of Kentucky. I'm also a college student, having just returned after six years now that my wife has graduated as an RN. I've got plenty of time to post on most days save for friday (when I actually partake in a tabletop campaign). I've been dungeoneering for 12 years now, so the experience is there. I've just got to make the adjustment to PbP (this will be my fourth PbP campaign).

However, I've got the feeling this one is going to be for the record books. Can't wait!

Hello everyone! I'm really excited to have been picked. I thought my idea might have been too crazy but I guess it was just crazy enough to work. Rashid was a priest of Abadar before going to the Mwangi expanse as a missionary and "going local." He is now a follower of Shimye-Magalla. He recently found out from the uncle that raised him that his parent had been killed by gnolls and that there would be an expedition to reclaim the town. He is accompanied by one of the great hunter-lizards of Mwangi (a T-rex!).

Rashid is a guy who has struggled to find himself. His uncle cared for him but was busy and had little real time for him. The church felt like a family but when he went to the Expanse, he realized how empty the pursuit of gold and civilization could be. Now he's returning to the country he left to find what he can of his parents and the town he grew up in.

I work in the public sector, I'm a husband of 5 years, and I'm the father of an 11 month old girl. I can manage a fairly aggressive posting schedule on weekdays and a bit on weekends, too. I'm in Maryland so eastern standard time.

Also, the crunch isn't totally done in his profile but I'm going to get it done before Monday for sure.

Half-elf Ranger (Guide) 1 HP 12/12 AC 18.14.14 F+4.R+6.W+2 - Init. +4 - Perc. +11

I've got a 9-month old boy here. Lots of fun at this age!

Yeah, they are pretty awesome. I'm kind of looking forward to her getting older, though. I'm going to train her like Hit-Girl.

Male Human (keleshite) Paladin 1

Hah, my son just turned 14 months and he's a beast. 31 inches, 32 pounds of pure beast. Today he figured out how to open the fridge. Oh, my, god... I'm still cleaning up the mess.

Half-elf Ranger (Guide) 1 HP 12/12 AC 18.14.14 F+4.R+6.W+2 - Init. +4 - Perc. +11

Couple of slight tweaks made to gear...

Half-elf Ranger (Guide) 1 HP 12/12 AC 18.14.14 F+4.R+6.W+2 - Init. +4 - Perc. +11

Interesting group...two former slaves, a back alley cutpurse, and a cleric...riding a dinosaur.

my daughter weighs literally close to half that.

M Human Cutpurse Rogue 1

Hey everyone!

I'll be playing Kallit, who'll be skulking along behind you all when he's not fumbling his way awkwardly through social situations, as teenagers often do.

I'm a father (a boy and a girl, 4yrs and 22mo) and a professional, but I get plenty of "breaks" at work, especially when my clientele don't show up for appointments (which is often!), so I'll be able to post fairly regularly throughout the week.

I'm posting from Mountain Standard Time.

I play tabletop on Friday nights and I'm running my own pbp for that group as well, but we take things pretty slow, so I'm expecting I'll have plenty of time to join this journey with you all!

Really looking forward to this. And to GM Wulfson, I'll have Kallit stated out by the end of the day to get things going for Monday.

I actually thought that I was one of the two former slaves. Is our ranger also a former slave?

EDIT: It doesn't appear that he is.

Also, how are you guys getting such nice-looking stat blocks? Is there a generator you use, or have you just been typing them out? I'll do whatever I need to, just wondering if there's an easier way.

Half-elf Ranger (Guide) 1 HP 12/12 AC 18.14.14 F+4.R+6.W+2 - Init. +4 - Perc. +11

Alem,

I use the BBCode statblock generator from HeroLab...

M Human Cutpurse Rogue 1

I think I heard someone once say that HeroLab pumps them out like that. For myself, I just copied someone elses that was done up that way, pasted it, added in the appropriate formatting tags, and then changed out all the info for my characters info. It's a bit of leg work, but it makes it easy to read.

In other news, Kallit is ready to go I believe. He's a bit of a combat slouch at first level, but should pick up quickly.

Speaking of combat, I'm interested in whether we'll be using maps, or if we'll be doing things freeform (I'm completely open to either - just thinking about flanking and all that)?

Male Wizard (Conjurer) 4 (HP 24/24) | AC: 10 | T: 10 | FF: 10 | CMB +2 | CMD: 12 | Fort: +2 | Ref: +1 | Wil: +5 | Init: +0 | Craft(alchemy) +10 | Diplomacy: +10 | Kn(Arcana/Planes): +12 | Kn(Dng/Geog/Hstry/Ntr/Rlgn): +9 | Kn(Local) +6 | Linguistics: +10 | Perception: +4 | Sense Motive: +3 | Spellcraft: +12 |

Personally, I'd prefer freeform. Flanking can be specified by any party and doesn't suffer from the lack of map, and I always feel that the experience is much more engulfing when done in prose as opposed to a tactical perspective. That's just my opinion, however.

Three questions:

1) What should my aura be. Shimye-Magalla, being a janiform god/dess has sort of two alignments.

2) How will you handle Handle Animal and tricks? Attack, Guard, and Down should cover most everything generally, and at level 4 he'll be getting an Int bump so Handle Animal isn't necessary at all.

3) I'm totally blanking on a second feat. Anyone have thoughts?

Male Wizard (Conjurer) 4 (HP 24/24) | AC: 10 | T: 10 | FF: 10 | CMB +2 | CMD: 12 | Fort: +2 | Ref: +1 | Wil: +5 | Init: +0 | Craft(alchemy) +10 | Diplomacy: +10 | Kn(Arcana/Planes): +12 | Kn(Dng/Geog/Hstry/Ntr/Rlgn): +9 | Kn(Local) +6 | Linguistics: +10 | Perception: +4 | Sense Motive: +3 | Spellcraft: +12 |

Boon Companion would make your animal companion a bit stronger. Depends on what you plan to do in combat.

Speaking of which, what does everybody plan to do tactics-wise? For my part, I plan to be summoning extra pairs of arms and doing battle-field control. I might also go with some enchantment, but it won't be a focus. After all, true friendship lasts longer than magic-induced friendliness.

Making pincushions out of gnolls, primarily.

Half-elf Ranger (Guide) 1 HP 12/12 AC 18.14.14 F+4.R+6.W+2 - Init. +4 - Perc. +11

And I guess Hurley's rogue and I can share scouting duties, depending on terrain, etc...

M Human Cutpurse Rogue 1

Kallit learned on the streets that oftentimes honorable men become dead men. He'll primarily be skirting aroudn behind enemies to stab them in the back. When they do turn to face him, he'll attempt whatever dirty trick he can to gain the upper hand, though he has little in the way of experience fighting at present.

Male Human (keleshite) Paladin 1

I'll be front-lining this affair it appears. Slashing and bashing my way through whatever decides it wants some paladin-kabobs.

I can't use boon companion until level 4 when normal animal companion rules kick in. Right now he's got Pateba under a different set of circumstances. I might just reserve the feat for a level and get power attack at two.

Not one of my better efforts but I wanted to get something up before I head out for my RL game.

Hey, the forward momentum is appreciated! Thanks for putting it all together for us. I think this will be a good group.

And, a dinosaur! ;-)

Damn skippy "And a dinosaur!"

He is the source of all my power.

Also this, this, and this.

I don't have the statblock prepared yet, but I've been working on the character in Myth-Weavers. I'll post in the game thread to keep the pace going and finish my statblock tomorrow hopefully. I don't have all my spells finalized yet, though this will lock in ray of frost as one of my cantrips. If the GM has any problem with the small amount of meta-game, I'll just be helping to douse the fires manually instead of using a spell. Sorry for the lagging on my part.

Sheet link

Hell's Vengeance Battlemaps; Jade Regent Battlemaps; Kingmaker Battlemaps; Mummy's Mask Battlemaps

Alem,
I'm going to say that each point of damage that the Ray of Frost does will reduce the time needed to douse the flames by that many rounds.
(Got to reward creativity somehow)

I don't mind a small amount of Meta-gaming as it's inevitable even among the best of us. As long as it doesn't result in a blatant personality change (i.e. My character is always the first one through the door but, I know there's a trap behind this one so I'll let someone else go first. etc...).

GM Wulfson, I had to rearrange my traits a little yesterday because we switched me from Erastil to Shimye-Magalla and my old Erastil trait no longer fit. I chose Good Dreams as I thought that a lot of my other choices already fully represented the nature bit from Gozreh and wanted to show some Desna-like influence somewhere. Is this an ok choice? Sorry I neglected to mention the change yesterday.

Male Wizard (Conjurer) 4 (HP 24/24) | AC: 10 | T: 10 | FF: 10 | CMB +2 | CMD: 12 | Fort: +2 | Ref: +1 | Wil: +5 | Init: +0 | Craft(alchemy) +10 | Diplomacy: +10 | Kn(Arcana/Planes): +12 | Kn(Dng/Geog/Hstry/Ntr/Rlgn): +9 | Kn(Local) +6 | Linguistics: +10 | Perception: +4 | Sense Motive: +3 | Spellcraft: +12 |

I'm assuming that concentration checks aren't necessary and that a 9 hits on the touch attack, simply because touch attacks against the environment tend to be extremely easy. If I'm wrong on either of these counts, I'll gladly edit my post to reflect it.

I won't let the meta-game affect my character decisions; in this case all it did was encourage a Ray of Frost selection instead of Acid Splash as a cantrip. I likely would have taken RoF anyway; I've just never really liked acid splash, and freezing stuff is just so darn useful.

Hell's Vengeance Battlemaps; Jade Regent Battlemaps; Kingmaker Battlemaps; Mummy's Mask Battlemaps

Use the rules for hitting a grid intersection (AC 5) and it deals it's damage across all four squares.

Male Wizard (Conjurer) 4 (HP 24/24) | AC: 10 | T: 10 | FF: 10 | CMB +2 | CMD: 12 | Fort: +2 | Ref: +1 | Wil: +5 | Init: +0 | Craft(alchemy) +10 | Diplomacy: +10 | Kn(Arcana/Planes): +12 | Kn(Dng/Geog/Hstry/Ntr/Rlgn): +9 | Kn(Local) +6 | Linguistics: +10 | Perception: +4 | Sense Motive: +3 | Spellcraft: +12 |

Wait, so was I initially putting out the wagon or the tree?

Hell's Vengeance Battlemaps; Jade Regent Battlemaps; Kingmaker Battlemaps; Mummy's Mask Battlemaps

The first ray was directed at the tree which put it out as it had just begun to burn, the second one (I thought) was directed at the wagon.

Male Wizard (Conjurer) 4 (HP 24/24) | AC: 10 | T: 10 | FF: 10 | CMB +2 | CMD: 12 | Fort: +2 | Ref: +1 | Wil: +5 | Init: +0 | Craft(alchemy) +10 | Diplomacy: +10 | Kn(Arcana/Planes): +12 | Kn(Dng/Geog/Hstry/Ntr/Rlgn): +9 | Kn(Local) +6 | Linguistics: +10 | Perception: +4 | Sense Motive: +3 | Spellcraft: +12 |

Oh. I was under the impression that the tree was ablaze and was the main problem. Now I see that the wagon was. Should I alter my posts to reflect this, or leave them as-is?

Half-elf Ranger (Guide) 1 HP 12/12 AC 18.14.14 F+4.R+6.W+2 - Init. +4 - Perc. +11

Hey Gm Wulfson, a style question: When we roll an attempt in a post (say, my Wild Empathy check) is it standard and accepted practice to see the result and complete our in-character write-up in response? Or is it better to confine our posts to reacting to your previous update and deciding upon a course of action, and then leave you to adjudicate and describe the results of our die rolls? Thanks!

Either will work, If you hit and you know you hit, feel free to express yourself. Same if you miss and you know it. If you're not sure either way you can leave it up to me to write something up.

I generally sum up the rounds actions after everyone's taken their turns and before the next round of actions anyway.

I would just like to say that I think this has started awesomely. I think seeing how everyone attempted to fix their chosen issue has been enlightening and the RP and regular posting has been excellent. Looking forward to the rest of the AP with you guys!

Half-elf Ranger (Guide) 1 HP 12/12 AC 18.14.14 F+4.R+6.W+2 - Init. +4 - Perc. +11

Hear, hear.

This is my first PbP, so I'm not sure how often these fizzle out, but I hope we can keep up some momentum to complete at least the initial story arc....

I'm jazzed up about this too. Lots of regular posting, really cool RP stuff. Looking forward to this quite a bit!

Male Human (keleshite) Paladin 1

I was a bit worried about putting as much effort as I did in this character, with how PbP campaign's tend to fizzle out. But so far, it looks like everyones going to be amazing to play with. Huzzah!

Are you sure you wan't to yell fire? The area over by the pens is the area where the Entangle spell has gone off not where another fire has sprang up.

Male Wizard (Conjurer) 4 (HP 24/24) | AC: 10 | T: 10 | FF: 10 | CMB +2 | CMD: 12 | Fort: +2 | Ref: +1 | Wil: +5 | Init: +0 | Craft(alchemy) +10 | Diplomacy: +10 | Kn(Arcana/Planes): +12 | Kn(Dng/Geog/Hstry/Ntr/Rlgn): +9 | Kn(Local) +6 | Linguistics: +10 | Perception: +4 | Sense Motive: +3 | Spellcraft: +12 |

Agreed, this has been going quite well for a PbP. Sorry I haven't been on in the last two days; was on a trip out of town and I thought I'd have computer access, but it was not to be. I'm back now.

Alem, you might want to revise your last post. There is no fire by the pens. I think Wulfson said the grasses near the pens "sprung to life" referring to my Entanglement spell and it's caused some confusion.
