Hm, why not? Maybe we were sent both, so we can look after each other in the dangerous city?
I'm not yet entirely sure that I'll play the barbarian. I'll look into character creation today and I can give a clear answer this evening or tomorrow morning.

I'm thinking about Barbarian. Maybe a Shoanti tribal warrior sent to investigate the Blot by his clans elders.
But I'm willing to fill any role needed,if we lack something in particular.

I played it back when it came out. It was quite fun I think. It's been some time and I really don't recall much of the details. So I have no problem with revisiting it.

Shattered Star is a dungeons crawl. 6 dungeons and not much more. So this won't be for me.

I can't say I like the idea of mixing Sci-Fi and Fantasy, but I'm willing to give it a try. Might turn out to be fun, especially since the AP is apparently pretty good. But if I don't like what I see, my character will find a grisly end pretty fast and I'm out. Just so you know it.

I played it and it is really good. But I don't know of I wanted to revisit it...
I'd be interested in Jade Regent, if done right (some of the books seem to be on the weaker side) .

I don't know Unknown Armies...
Well, if the AP or idea is good, I'll give Pathfinder another chance (but with another class!). If the mix between combat and roleplay is like it was in this game, I'm fine with it. I'm just hoping that doing a new campaign with the same people won'T net the same result...

What AP did you have in mind?

So, please keep me in the loop. As I said, I probably won't build another Pathfinder character, but I said that before I read the pitch for this game and look how much effort went into Ragnar! If I get excited about what you plan with us in the future, I might be willing to put my differences with the Pathfinder RPG behind me and just enjoy what you bring before me. Especially when it is more about roleplaying and a bit less about combat.

(Sorry for changing my mind all the time. I'm REALLY torn about this and the fact that I just finished my Master’s Thesis and got WAY too little sleep doesn't really help.)

I don't really know what to say. I really like how you run this game and I like the story so far. But since the game doesn't run really well, I don't think we would see the whole story through.

Also I think I'm kind of done with the Pathfinder RPG ruleset. Creating Ragnar took forever and even though I love the character and his backstory, I don't really enjoy playing him. A witch isn't the most interesting character to play during combat I guess.

So, yeah, I won't create another character using the Pathfinder RPG ruleset. And playing an always quite combat heavy AP with Ragnar as my character won't be too much fun.

So I guess It comes down to Number 3 then. Which is a shame since I really like gaming with you.

"I'm ready, let's hope he's not a good shot. " Ragnar says, swallowing down the fear that's crawling up and making his skin crawl.

I'm OK with going ahead with the plan. VI should be back with Ragnar.

"You were with us in that fishing village now weren't you?" Ragnar states as if it would explain everything.
Well, for him it does. The village changed everything. While he knew before, that Hobgoblins were bad news. The pile of dead bodies at the small fishing village showed the true horror of their crimes to him.
That Hobgoblin guard was a monster, nothing more. And monsters are to be put to the sword.

With that he advances to the corner of the building and takes a quick look around. The plan is to charge out and flee along the road towards the gate. The guards, meaning his friends, follow him. As soon as they get to the gate, they kill the Hobgoblin stationed there. But all of this relies on teh fact, that the guard is alone and won't sound an alarm before they reach him...

Perception Ragnar: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Perception Vi: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16

"I think he bought it. We may dock and... well, something about taking the prisoners and coming to the inn I guess. He spoke pretty fast, I'm not sure I got everything he said," Ragnar explains to his comrades.

I really didn't expect to roll so high again. Two times hit the DC spot on.

Since he doesn't speak any goblin, he at least tries to help by playing prisoner. Ragnar stretches his arms, so the lookout might spot the rope with which they are loosely bound.

"First captured, now shot? What kind of idiots are you!" the mage shouts in common, hoping to get put down by one of his 'guards'. Hopefully this little show will distract the hobgoblin long enough for them to get close.

Bluff: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17

Can't we roll intelligence or Linguistics to see if we at least know some words goblin? Like a curse or something like that? I mean, I don't speak French, but I know at least some words. Just a thought, I totally understand if you won't allow it.

While I took some notes, I often post with my smartphone, so looking something up isn't that easy. That complicates planning. We did get a map of sorts and some Infos on the town. Decision making would be easier if you'd post a list of known points of interest and why we'd want to go there (in a half-sentence). So everyone just had to decide where to go to first instead of coming up with something himself.

That's just a thought. I noticed that posting always drops during planning and picks up as soon as things just move along.

Ragnar shakes his head, a bit amused about their effectiveness, his own included.

"We should search the houses, maybe someone was able to hide," Ragnar says, his eyes fixed on the gruesome sight. It would be a miracle if anyone survived this butchering.

Search (untrained): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Ragnar begins moving through the homes, beginning with the one closest by. He opens the front door after saying: "I'm coming in now. Don't be afraid, we are friends, it is safe again out here."
He tries to sound as calm and comforting as possible.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16

Once he is inside, he thoroughly searches the home, opening wardrobes (if there are any) and looking under beds. But since he doesn't like ruining his cloths, he won't walk through pools of blood or crawl under something dirty. There is a reason he doesn't have Search trained.

Ragnar moves up a bit and fixes the creature with his stare.

Evil Eye (Su) (-2 AC for 7 rounds, will save DC 15 reduces to one round)

Since it's the surprise round, can we really move and use a standard action? Sorry, but it's been a while since my last full-grown Pathfinder game.

Ragnar slowly draws the short sword from it's scabbard. I already regret not spending more time in training. The mage thinks while scanning the surroundings.

"Have the people here been brought into the city? " He asks their guide.

"Let's take their uniforms, just in case. We can wash off the blood at the lake. So if they spot us from afar in the streets or before that, on the boat, they might not suspect anything right away. If they get close, we might at least get the drop on them," Ragnar tells the others while taking one of the uniforms himself. "Also let's take all their other equipment. Once we are inside the town, we can outfit townspeople with those weapons."

Ragnar looks disgusted at the grisly scene. "Well, that was one way to solve that," He says. Possibly also the only reasonable. Good to know we have someone willing to do the dirty work. He adds mentally.

"I don't think we can disguise as those hobgoblin patrol? We should have asked for their 'please let us in, we are the patrol' phrase. But we have that horn, we could draw them out and maybe sneak in while they hunt after our distraction? Also I could use mental tricks on a lone guard."

Ragnar stares at the hobgoblin. A long cold stare, perfected over the years. It says *I don't give a damn about what happens to you and I can already smell your fear*. While in reality Ragnar wouldn't harm even such a useless creature as this hobgoblin without a proper reason, there is no way for the hobgoblin to know that.

Intimidate: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

"Tell us of that place. The place you came from. Where you lair," Ragnar said without even flinching.

"Has anybody seen this hooked claw insignia before? " Ragnar asks not really expecting a positive response.
The jewelry must be badges of rank, He thinks, trying to figure out who was the leader of the group they just slaughtered.

Intelligence : 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18

He then takes the backpack that's in the best condition and packs the rope, horn and a water skin. Thinking it through again, he gets rid of the water currently in the skin and the food. I must remember to only drink out of this after cleaning it properly, he reminds himself.

While the others interrogate the hobgoblin, Ragnar takes a look at his dead comrades. If anyone is still breathing, he informs the others. If they have backpacks, he tries to acquire one for himself that doesn't smell too bad. He still doesn't have anything to sleep on and hopefully he can change that here as well.

Let me know what I find. I just wanted to make clear, that even small items matter, since Ragnar doesn't even have a Backpack on him.

You have a positive CMB and could help Czein with the grapple. I'm not sure how the grapple rules work, but logic demands that superiority in numbers is an essential factor.
Also, does anyone have a rope?

Ragnar uses Evil Eye (Su) (-2 AC, ability checks, attack rolls, saving throws, or skill checks for 7 rounds, will save DC 15 reduces to one round). I want to make it easier to restrain him. Would that be "ability checks"?

Ragnar remains where he is, concentrating on weakening their captive.

The sleeping hobgoblin will awake once it is my turn. So I guess Juid and Sir Woofington still have the chance to strike a blow against him while he remains helpless. He will awake as soon as he takes damage.

Ragnar finally makes it to the edge of the forest where he is close enough to the enemies to work his magic. He concentrates on one of the hobgiblins (yellow) and begins humming a lullaby his mother used to sing to him when he was a child.

Ragnar is lost in thought and only realizes the others have started hiding once he is standing along in the forest.

"Guys?" he asks nervously just before he hears Czein's and Flexx's battle cries.

He quickly moves up to the edge of the forest and concentrates on one of the bugbears who hasn't already taken damage. Their eyes meet and Ragnar prepares to wear down his opponent's will.

Had to edit this post, since I'm out of range for any of my abilities.

"Thank you Marit," Ragnar responds, then turns to the group. "I also think the temple is a good place to start, but first we need to get in. Marit, is there a fishing-village somewhere nearby maybe?"

"You evaded my other question," Ragnar says calmly. "Who is this Mister Wiggun and what is it he teaches your brother? We need to know who could help us free your town and what skills they can add."

"Hm, won't be easy to cross a lake unnoticed. Is it foggy in the mornings?" Ragnar asks. "Also, you said your brother is Mister Wiggun's apprentice. Who is that and what's his occupation? Could both help us retake the town?"

I could myself conjure a small patch of fog if I prepare the spell for tomorrow, but on a clear day, that would be most suspicious, Ragnar thought.

"Possible, but I guess we won't find out here," Ragnar says. "But since the ruler of this settlement is a mage, maybe she has something to do with all if this?"

Very far-fetched, but it might be good to keep our spirits up, He thought.

"Either way, as long as our new companion is willing to help, we now have another blade against our newest enemies."
