Character Creation Guidelines

I am a traditionalist and much prefer a well played human fighter to a half-vampire starslayer or some nonsense like that. So core races and classes are my favorite. I will consider
- All classes allowed. I'm not a fan of genre-mixing so keep it western fantasy if you can unless it's a really cool concept.
- Standard races preferred.
- Make your characters at level one
- 2 traits and a campaign trait.
- 150 gold
- 20 point buy. Your stats should figure in to how you play your character.
- You are playing a hero.
- Max HP at 1st, half +1 from there on out.
- 3rd party requires specific approval.
- Please post a full stat block.
- Summary detail should be on the class/level section of your profile like so:

Class Level | AC XX T XX F XX | HP XX/XX | F +X R +X W +X | Init +X | Perc +X

Game Expectations

- If you don't have something to add to a scene, post something about your character being silent or some thoughts.
- Posting rate is 1/day, 1/weekend. I GMPC readily and without mercy or apology. If you do not post I will automate your character, particularly in combat.
- Please post in the discussion board if you will miss some time.
- I break the rules when it is dramatically appropriate. I try to never do so in a way that is unfair to PCs.
- Play your character with the fun of the entire party as your first goal. So inter-party drama, sexual themes, or anything like that must be handled with caution.

Liberty's Edge

I'll download the campaign players guide tonight and start giving some thought to a character.

Checking in!

:)

GM Who Must Be Feared & Obeyed (Or At Least Bribed With Cookies)

The character concept I'm thinking of is a Shoanti skald who's been sent to investigate the significance of the blot in the skies above Riddleport: Into Enemy Territory is the trait I have in mind.

I'll look intoie playerstoPlayer's guide sometime today, but character creation might take till Sunday.
(formerly Ragnar)

M Asskicker Brawler/Rogue

I shall look into the campaign. What classes are others thinking of? I think I'm finally tired of playing a frontliner, but I'm still willing if its needed.

GM Who Must Be Feared & Obeyed (Or At Least Bribed With Cookies)

I'm planning on playing a support character--a skald. Essentially, she'll be able to fill in as a backup frontliner if needed.

Liberty's Edge

I like casters and finesse characters. I might do a Halfling rogue type. Still thinking about it, though.

It would be nice to dovetail some of our backgrounds as we develop the characters, especially since several of the campaign traits specify knowing another PC.

I'm toying with the idea of a paladin, or perhaps a warpriest, with a thirst for evil outsider blood, as in the Scouting for Fiends campaign trait. I might be persuaded to go the cleric route again, but more of a harda** than Juid was.

My secondary idea is a dwarven ranger... basically Harsk. The more I think about it, the more this appeals to me.
(Juid)

Here's Dragoncat's character. Crunch-wise, she's just about completed. I'm working on her backstory & personality now.

Liberty's Edge

So, so far I'm seeing:

DragonCat - Skald (support) "Fiona Sun-Touched"
Rinaldo - rogue type or caster
Miklos -
Ace - not front liner
Germany - dwarven ranger?

Miklos, any thoughts on what direction you'd like to go?

I am looking into Archaeologist Bard to combine rogue-y stuff with a bit of magic. I'll poke around with some builds tonight.

Male Taldan/Ulfen Witch 2|HP: 12/12|AC: 12, T 12, FF 10|Saves: +1 Fort, +2 Ref, +3 Will|Init: +2|Perc: +2 (+3)

I'm thinking about Barbarian. Maybe a Shoanti tribal warrior sent to investigate the Blot by his clans elders.
But I'm willing to fill any role needed,if we lack something in particular.

-Posted with Wayfinder

GM Who Must Be Feared & Obeyed (Or At Least Bribed With Cookies)

So, Miklos, if both of our characters are going to be Shoanti, would it make sense for the two of us to come from the same quah?

Male Taldan/Ulfen Witch 2|HP: 12/12|AC: 12, T 12, FF 10|Saves: +1 Fort, +2 Ref, +3 Will|Init: +2|Perc: +2 (+3)

Hm, why not? Maybe we were sent both, so we can look after each other in the dangerous city?
I'm not yet entirely sure that I'll play the barbarian. I'll look into character creation today and I can give a clear answer this evening or tomorrow morning.

Male Taldan/Ulfen Witch 2|HP: 12/12|AC: 12, T 12, FF 10|Saves: +1 Fort, +2 Ref, +3 Will|Init: +2|Perc: +2 (+3)

What Quah did you want to choose?

-Posted with Wayfinder

GM Who Must Be Feared & Obeyed (Or At Least Bribed With Cookies)

I was originally leaning towards the Shriikirri-Quah. That being said, I can pick any Quah that we can agree on.

It's kind of like what alignment I want my character to be--I haven't settled on a good one for her.

male Human (Shoanti) Barbarian 1 | AC 14 (12) T 11 (9) F 13 (11) | HP 18/18 (20) | F +6 (+8) R +1 W +1 (+3) | Init +2 | Perc +4

I finally got to do the crunch! Here's Tahbet Earth Shaker (though I'm not 100% sure about the name), a Shoanti barbarian from the Shriikirri-Quah.
He isn't as good as his fellow clansmen with animals or foreigners, but he has his uses: he is in training to become one of the clan's finest warriors. He lives for the clan, he dies for the clan and it is his sacred duty to follow and protect Fiona Sun-Touched on her journey.
Tahbet does speak the language of the foreigners (Common), but he simply refuses to, most of the times. It is the language of the oppressors, those who took his Quah's lands long ago. He doesn't hate them, but they are foreigners here and they should learn to respect those who were here before them.
He can stand motionless and stare at you for what seems like an eternity. But he observes and listens and if he is challenged or his Quah needs his strength, he flies into a wild frenzy, laying waste to anyone who stands in his way.
He fights very offensively with a huge Earth Breaker, with very little regard for his own safety. He is an imposing opponent in a one-on-one battle, but without the support of his friends, he won't last long in a real fight.

.

Awesome, I like this group already. I'll look over the crunch in deatil shortly.

GM Who Must Be Feared & Obeyed (Or At Least Bribed With Cookies)

Regarding healing: I've left my second first-level spell up in the air in case nobody else puts forward a healer of some sort.

'Yasraena Zauviir'|DR: 2/-|Spell Slots: 1st: 6/6; 2nd: 5/5; 3rd: 4/4|Performance Rounds: 27/28|Female Human (Shoanti) Skald 9|AC: 20/13/17 (19/12/16 in Raging Song)|HP: 67/67|Saves: Fort: +9, Ref: +6, Will: +8 (+11 in Raging Song) (+4 vs. Bardic Performance, Sonic, Language-Dependent, +1 vs Fear)|Init: +6|Perc: +14

Fiona is now complete, crunch & fluff-wise! :)

male Human (Shoanti) Barbarian 1 | AC 14 (12) T 11 (9) F 13 (11) | HP 18/18 (20) | F +6 (+8) R +1 W +1 (+3) | Init +2 | Perc +4

I get the feeling Fiona can look after herself pretty well. But I guess having a big mean buddy can't hurt :-D
I'm currently carrying an Earth Breaker, but since I don't have Weapon Focus yet, I'll take whatever two-handed weapon comes my way. Tahbet isn't picky.
Besides smashing stuff, Tahbet is good at intimidating people and he will learn to smack them down to the ground (trip). He is a straight forward barbarian. I didn't have the time to make an elaborate build, but since this is my first barbarian ever, mainly using Core Rules Feats and Rage Powers will be enough for me. If you have any suggestions, please tell me!

What are you others planning to play? So far we have:
DragonCat - Skald (support) "Fiona Sun-Touched"
Rinaldo - rogue type or caster
Miklos - Barbarian front liner "Tahbet Earth Shaker"
Ace - not front liner
Germany - dwarven ranger?

male Human (Shoanti) Barbarian 1 | AC 14 (12) T 11 (9) F 13 (11) | HP 18/18 (20) | F +6 (+8) R +1 W +1 (+3) | Init +2 | Perc +4

Oh, one thing I am not 100% sure: I have Int 10, so I don't get a bonus language. Do I start speaking Common (Taldane) and Shoanti or only one of the two?

.

Everyone gets the common language starting out.

So we have melee, melee support, and more characters to come! Maps and tokens are set up on my part, just a bit more reading to do. So I'll be ready to start soon enough. Do you guys want a sixth, or is five fine?

GM Who Must Be Feared & Obeyed (Or At Least Bribed With Cookies)

Since our characters are Shoanti, do we start with that language as well?

male Human (Shoanti) Barbarian 1 | AC 14 (12) T 11 (9) F 13 (11) | HP 18/18 (20) | F +6 (+8) R +1 W +1 (+3) | Init +2 | Perc +4

I think 5 is OK, but I have no problem with getting a 6th player on board.

-Posted with Wayfinder

GM Who Must Be Feared & Obeyed (Or At Least Bribed With Cookies)

Regarding party size, I'm fine with 5 or 6.

Male Dwarf Rng 2/Rog 1 | A 16 T 13 F 13 | hp 24/27 | F +5 R +8 W +2 | In +5 | Per +8

"Are we gonna sit around chewing the fat like a gaggle of washer women or are we gonna get this party started?"

I'm Bofur to those o' ye that haven't met me yet, which is all o' ye.

I haven't finished formatting the alias, but this dwarven ranger is up and running.

.

I'll stick with 5, easier for me. So waiting on Ace and Rinaldo! So far we have goon, ranged goon, and support melee/casting goon. I already like this group.

male Human (Shoanti) Barbarian 1 | AC 14 (12) T 11 (9) F 13 (11) | HP 18/18 (20) | F +6 (+8) R +1 W +1 (+3) | Init +2 | Perc +4

Me too!

GM Who Must Be Feared & Obeyed (Or At Least Bribed With Cookies)

Did you miss my question, GM?

.

I did - every human ethnicity gets that ethnicity's language (if appropriate) and Taldan/common. So your Shoanti characters speak Shoanti and common.

GM Who Must Be Feared & Obeyed (Or At Least Bribed With Cookies)

:D

Thanks for the info!

Just waiting on Rinaldo & Ace to come up with characters. So far, it appears we're really lacking in healing...

male Human (Shoanti) Barbarian 1 | AC 14 (12) T 11 (9) F 13 (11) | HP 18/18 (20) | F +6 (+8) R +1 W +1 (+3) | Init +2 | Perc +4

Bofur 's background is quite nice and I think he is a good addition to our team. You just have one typo where you write "giant" instead of "human" or "raider" .

-Posted with Wayfinder

Male Dwarf Rng 2/Rog 1 | A 16 T 13 F 13 | hp 24/27 | F +5 R +8 W +2 | In +5 | Per +8

Oh, thanks. I can't take credit for that one. I really did base him off of Harsk, except for the background with giants. I'll clean that up. I'm looking forward to playing him.

male Human (Shoanti) Barbarian 1 | AC 14 (12) T 11 (9) F 13 (11) | HP 18/18 (20) | F +6 (+8) R +1 W +1 (+3) | Init +2 | Perc +4

I changed a skill (-Swim +Acrobatics) and some Javelins with Ammentums as ranged weapons. I also included the background story. So fluff and crunch are finished!

Liberty's Edge

Been a busy weekend for me. I've been prepping a big scenario for PFS tomorrow that took all my time. I'm sitting down now to try a few more ideas.

Liberty's Edge

I don't have a character yet, but I'm toying with coming up with an Inquisitor or Warpriest, and using the "Scouting for Fiends" campaign trait. I'm going to sleep on some ideas. Sorry this is taking so long - usually I have character ideas just pouring out of my head, but I'm having trouble getting inspired for this one.

.

No worries! I've had a blast playing an inquisitor in this game, although you're kind of forced to make some compromises depending on your God. But that's what inquisitors are for.

GM Who Must Be Feared & Obeyed (Or At Least Bribed With Cookies)

We're definitely going to need some healing at some point. I think it'd be a good idea for us to get a hold of a CLW wand as soon as possible.

Liberty's Edge

So I'm going to work up an inquisitor idea, so I'll have a few spells available and could use cure scrolls/wands if and when they become available. Not a primary healer, but a secondary one.

Between my day job and my Monday evening PFS night, it will be Tuesday night before I get time to make the character.

GM Who Must Be Feared & Obeyed (Or At Least Bribed With Cookies)

What sort of inquisitor did you have in mind, Rinaldo?

Liberty's Edge

Dragoncat wrote:

I've never played one, so I'm not really sure ... I'll give it a more thorough look tonight, but my concept is an elven inquisitor sent from Kyonin to investigate the black cloud. Probably melee focused with some healing and support spells.

Male Dwarf Rng 2/Rog 1 | A 16 T 13 F 13 | hp 24/27 | F +5 R +8 W +2 | In +5 | Per +8

My ranger should also be able to use a wand for healing.

OK, crunch done, fluff to follow. Spiderbeard has the basic story in PM, I'll fill in the details tomorrow.

(Rinaldo)

So, here's our party so far:

Dragoncat: Fiona Sun-Touched (Human (Shoanti) Skald: Melee/Arcane Support)
Miklos: Tahbet Earth Shaker (Human (Shoanti) Barbarian (Superstitious): Melee Combat)
GermanyDM: Bofur II (Dwarf Ranger: Ranged Combat)
Rinaldo: Variel Duardlon (Elf Inquisitor of Calistria: Melee/Divine Support)
Ace: Unknown

By the way, Bofur, you still need to take 2 normal traits. Your character sheet only has the Scouting for Fiends trait on it.

.

Hey guys, I've made the decision to remove Ace from the game and pare us down to four after a week without an update and a far lower than daily posting rate in the last game. So we can move on with four! It looks like our party is done. Rinaldo I'll need you to write out a backstory as your concept will work well with the game.

Gameplay thread will be up tonight!

Story is forming in my head, I hope to write it up when I take a break later today.

Backstory added to the profile. Also, as I worked the story out, I changed his perform from sing to oratory.

Hey guys, technical difficulties setting up a gameplay thread. Bear with!
