I haven't seen it announced anywhere, but I noticed that The Story So Far has been brought up to date for the new season - thanks Paizo!

I GMed this last night, and I crossed out the items on the chronicle that weren't found. If I was playing, I'd view a GM crossing out missed items as a mark of diligence, rather than him being mean.

Oh man, I remember GMing the first 'Challenge of Champions' adventure back in the 2E era of Dungeon, and the whole group having a great time. I hope this captures the spirit of those adventures.

It's the Chronicler vanity from the Pathfinder Society Field Guide. 10 prestige to allow you to ask the GM once per session to repeat a fact about the mission or backstory, or an NPC name.

Much like we did with Giantslayer and Iron Gods, we're allowing some retroactive credit. If you are still in the middle of playing one of these Adventure Paths but have not yet concluded it, you can receive retroactive credit for all of that Adventure Path's earlier volumes the next time you earn a Chronicle sheet for that campaign.

I finished GMing CotCT in April 2011, so it appears that I just missed the cut-off... ;-)

I suppose that then raises the question; how much should/can GMs deviate from scenarios as written, or more specifically battle tactics as written? But I'm sure that that topic has been discussed in other threads.

There's some advice on this in the Guide (page 13):

Quote:

Dealing with Death

Given the dangers characters face once they become Pathfinders, character death is a very real possibility (and a necessary one to maintain a sense of risk and danger in the game). Consider, however, that for a player new to Pathfinder Society Roleplaying Guild, or to the Pathfinder RPG in general, having his character experience a violent death during his first game can sour him on the campaign and the game altogether. While we don’t advocate fudging die rolls, consider the experience of the player when deciding whether to use especially lethal tactics or if a character is in extreme danger of death, especially when the player is new to the game. Most players whose first experience in a campaign results in a character death don’t return to the campaign.

There are other bits in the previous pages of the Guide (around 'table variation' and 'creative solutions') that may also be relevant.

People can get credit twice for GMing the same scenario, it's just that one of them has to be in Core mode.

I am 100% against allowing more GM credit on the same scenario than what exists today, as it would break the symmetry between GM and player credit, and lead to renewed calls for replaying for credit (an argument that has been mercifully absent from these boards in recent times).

One major, MAJOR criticism though. Not one, but TWO enormous custom maps. Enormous maps already a bit of a headache when prepping. But to have them as an either/or is absolutely outrageous. Are they fun and interesting maps? Sure - but this is the kind of thing where we really REALLY should be relying on a map pack or flip mat.

Seconded. I bought the bigger blank flip-mat this week, and I still needed to get creative as the maps were even bigger than that.

So, any tips to keep in mind or advice anyone can give when making a PFS character that would be useful in PFS play?

Keep an open mind, as you're able to rebuild all aspects of your character until you hit 2nd level, and your experiences in your first couple of games might cause you to rethink.

One of the special relics is looked after by the Dark Archive; this makes sense for two reasons: it's a dangerous item with special powers, and it's also a good explanation for why the Society weren't already aware of it (and therefore didn't try to combine it with the other relic sooner).

Having intros from two people is a good way of psychologically breaking up the wall of text for the players, even if it's the same person (the GM) delivering both IRL!

If anyone tries to tell you there is a limit on which chronicles you can buy from, they may be remembering an old (season 0) rule that said it was only the last 3 or 4, which has now been rescinded.

Rangers do not need to pray to a specific deity to receive their divine spells. From the Guide v7, p10:

Quote:
Clerics, inquisitors, paladins, cavaliers of the order of the star, and samurai of the order of the star must choose a deity as all classes in Golarion that receive spells and abilities from a specific divine source receive their powers from a deity. Druids, oracles, and rangers are the exception to this rule.

Emphasis mine.

In terms of XP your VO might consider judicious use of slow progression on one of the module chronicles to keep you legal.

Without taking a close look at tiers/subtiers, it appears that if you convert your last 4 chronicles (2 modules, 2 scenarios) to slow track (with VC/VL assistance) it would leave you on 15 XP: just hitting 6th level, and you would still have been in-tier for the last two tier 1-5 scenarios.

D) I have an item purchased for my use, I offer it up if they want it with the expectation it will be replaced. The GM enforces the contract to prevent reneging.

This sounds like the best fit to me too.

I expect it needs to be resolved within the session (like a PC death, disease, or similar) and it needs to be a like-for-like replacement (the person who loaned the item is no better or worse off than they were before they loaned it out).

If there is a suspicion that this could lead to abuse (the 'pack mule' PC in a regular group, who carries one of everything in the expectation that the group is unlikely to need more) then this could be restricted to certain items: only potions/scrolls, only certain spells (breath of life, lesser restoration).

I wonder where to put this, but a clarification of the various Factions need to reference past factions in relation to past seasons. The wording of this assumes that the reader already knows that the current factions used to be those of the regional former factions in the past.

I wonder if it's worth turning the current primary/secondary success conditions document into a document for running 'legacy material', and transferring the season 0 rule changes info and faction differences between seasons from the guide to that document.

Phantom Phenomena and the Silverhex Chronicles are also tier 1 (pregens only) and give 1 XP (with varying gold and prestige awards based on the number of quests completed). Both are 'evergreen'.

Running a 'slot' (4-5 hours) of either earns 1 point of GM credit.

Given the fact that this is a relatively obscure restriction (only clarified in a messageboard post) and there is some disagreement over whether these restrictions only apply to players or not, I'd be very uncomfortable as a GM about telling an uninformed player that he couldn't summon the lightning elemental he wanted, then have the NPC magic-user do exactly that the next round. It just doesn't seem like fair play to me.

Until it's clarified otherwise, I'll restrict myself (as a GM) to the same list as the players.
