That's a pretty troll-baiting slant to take on the story.
The BBC reports: "GenCon more diverse"
WP reports: GenCon diversity controversy!"
No wonder the comments are a mess; the article invites conflict.
Not that I agree with the trolls, just... c'mon, report the story.

No, the comments are a mess because a loud segment of gamers can't stand being called on their misogyny, and take even merely pointing out that Gen Con's past GoH/II slates have been exclusionary as an insult. If the BBC had allowed comments, they'd be a mess, too. If you don't believe that, feel free to look at the Pathfinder RPG group where someone posted a link to the BBC video. It was vitriolic enough that the OP had to turn off commenting.
And yes, I'd say that the fact that gamers respond to an announcement that a slate of speakers is gender-balanced with threats, talk of boycotts, and other temper tantrums is actually part of the story.

Fair enough, I still think that knowing the trolls will come anyway is no excuse for inviting them in with a tip of the hat.
So, I guess... I would, if I could, redact the words 'No wonder the comments are a mess' from the above.

Jessica has worked so hard to hide her Russian accent, it would probably be really hard for her to pick up a British one on top of all the rest.

Headcannon errata:
Change the wording in the first sentence of quote 2 from Russian to Ukranian.

...and finally, Jessica Price of Paizo, Inc, was heard declaring that she hasn't got enough work, when she said "I'm not rushing!"
Fellow Paizo employee, Mark Moreland, noted this apparent lack of work, saying "Jessica has worked so hard to hide".
This has been Not The Nine O'Clock News, from the BBC.

Jessica & Crystal - a big thank you. My 11 year old daughter has started playing RPGs with me, and will soon GM her first session with school friends. Shows like My Little Pony, and strong characters like Hermione, Astrid and Rey in popular culture have created a generation of girls who dig fantasy and want to participate in creating their own adventures.
Thanks for your courage in facing all the troll vitriol. I want gaming and game events to be a safe place for my daughter, her friends - and everyone really. This is the kind of thing that helps change the conversation.
And kudos to GenCon for making a stand. After all, it's 2016.
