![]() Now that posting finally works for me again, I can say something... I think "less civilised" new characters would work best, but as terok said before, as long as they will accept working with our current characters, any kind of characters would work out just fine. Ka'itsssu'ekh looks pretty good to me! Am I correct in assuming that his stupid demeanour is just what he looks like to others, and in reality he's smarter? At least his stats would indicate that. I think he's going to need a shorter nickname, heh. ![]()
![]() Palag is content to stay in the Wicker Warrior for the duration of their stay in the town. He'll help with the tavern, though he mostly fixes clothes and does other crafty jobs. He doesn't want to fight for obvious reasons. Otherwise Palag will also do work for the townsfolk by making them clothes and jewelry. He'll keep in touch with Lolfi, get to know other vesh in the town and make some friends if he can. He keeps an eye out for potential recruits, mostly toward the end of the month. He isn't too trusting about humans and traulls though. FF: Want some craft checks to see how much money Palag makes? He also finishes Blacksock's training. Handle Animal (for the Stay trick, DC 15): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
When Rsss'tak brings his new marsh drake to town, Palag is happy for him and plays around with Essirin if it fancies playing. When the group holds their discussion, he replies to Yochtanl: "I'm good to go there, better get it done later than not at all! Well, as long as no one else has managed to clean out those ruins, so to say." ![]()
![]() A month is a bit long but Palag doesn't have anything against it. He can finish Blacksock's training and do some work in the town to earn money for a new crossbow! If I remember correctly, a Craft skill can be used to make money pretty well. Palag would also like to keep in touch with Lolfi. Agreed, a healer would be nice. ![]()
![]() Palag assures to Malgopi and everyone who asks that it would be wise to stay away from the ruins in the north. He doesn't want to explain exactly what drove them away just barely alive since he doesn't think adding to the general worrying or even panic would be good. He does say that the danger won't be spreading so there is no need to worry about that. After resting a bit more, Palag also trains Blacksock a little. He's also very grateful to Malgopi and follows Yochtanl's example, giving them 2 sp. ![]()
![]() I am here as well (though suffering from a slight writer's block... I hope I can crush it soon) and want to continue. Hmm, can't say I'd have a big opinion on shifting the focus, either way works for me. Palag might want to not stray too far from the town for a while if given the choice, heh. Making a new recruitment thread will probably get a lot of replies. The old thread seems "full" so people might not look at it, though undoubtedly some will. ![]()
![]() Oops, I kept an eye only on the OOC thread for a couple of days...
Palag is very weak when he wakes up and tries his best to not exert himself too much. He's rather quiet, obviously still shook after the events at the fountain. He also has sympathy for Rsss'tak, even though he doesn't quite understand how deep the bond between the lizardman and drake was. He tries to get over the unfortunate occurrence by playing carefully with the kobold children. He doesn't have an opinion on whether they should return to Riftview. He lost his preferred weapon too, but he can't buy a new one – in fact, he already has the only thing he can afford and use somewhat effectively. ![]()
![]() It's hard to do anything while unconscious, but I definitely want to continue. New players would probably be good, but having too many would slow down the playing even if there were more posts since there'd be more people to wait for... I suppose the best option would be to get everyone back to posting so that the situation would advance a little at least once per day. ![]()
![]() Perception: 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 5 - 2 = 22 Turning back to see what is happening, Palag is glad Visssila understood him. Now that the creature is covered by the smoke, he realizes how horribly it tore into Vess'Sothkek who Djatrix is pulling away from the fight. He thought Djatrix could have fixed him, but the oracle too took a hit from the terrible creature and doesn't seem very stable now. Therefore, fighting the urge to flee, Palag makes himself return. He runs straight for Vess and sees the silhouette of the creature in the smoke. His jaw drops and he is quite glad no one, especially the creature, can see that behind his mask. Palag pulls on Vess'Sothek's cloak and tries his best to tie it around his torso to suppress the bleeding. Heal: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (2) - 2 = 0
Seeing that his wound-tying attempt is helplessly inadequate and panicking desperately, Palag tries one last thing and drops down on Vess, hoping his small weight puts enough pressure on the wounds to keep him alive a little longer. "H-heal him!" he squeaks at Djatrix. Now there's a variety of actions for this round. I gotta say that I've never had the opportunity to make this much skill checks while shaken! Rather exciting. ![]()
![]() Palag sees Vess'Sothek's odd condition but there is precious little he can do about it or the creature, now that Yochtanl has covered the creature in smoke. Not able to see the creature properly, there isn't much point for him to attack. Neither can he hope to be able to move any of the lizardfolk. There is, however, one thing he can try to do. "Visssila, fetch! B-bring to me!" he says and points at Rsss'tak. He doesn't know if the drake will take his commands like Rsss'tak's, but at least he tried. Having done that, he starts backing down and tries to flee into the foliage. Handle animal as a move action (can work if Vissila knows the fetch trick), then move to M4 and then hiding in the bush.
Yeah, this fight didn't go exactly well. Those were some really bad combat rolls. Let's hope we can pick up the pieces! ![]()
![]() Ack, sorry, I forgot the shaken in the previous round. Luckily Palag didn't hit anyway. Palag just sees Rsss'tak take a massive hit and fall before he crouches behind the pillar again, terrified. He reloads his crossbow with slightly shaky hands and hops over the pillar to reposition himself in the hopes of making a successful surprise attack. Move to G5, behind the tree.
![]()
![]() Round 2: Palag feels a little helpless as the others ignore his words, but he thinks it's natural that the ongoing battle occupies their minds wholesomely. Nevertheless, he's in the battle now and he'd obviously take his chances with his group and not the monster.
He crouches and sneaks behind the pillar in I7, trying to hide so that he could surprise the now violent creature, even if he hopes that it would just flee. Stealth: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (15) + 14 = 29
...Provided the monster is still alive after Rsss'tak, that is. ![]()
![]() Against his probably better judgment, Palag leaves his hiding place behind the pillar and hops over it. He moves carefully to K7. "Wait! Rsss'tak, sh-shouldn't we at least listen to... to what it has to say?" he says fearfully and looks at both Rsss'tak and Yochtanl in turn. Regardless, he keeps his crossbow aimed at the creature. ![]()
![]() Surface:
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Palag watches the ravens with some alarm and keeps his eyes directed to northwest, hoping that Djatrix and Vess'Sothek return soon. I just realised I forgot to spoiler my last post... Not that any of us players seem to have remembered that, heh. At least we haven't said anything too significant. ![]()
![]() Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21 Palag turns to look at the flying ravens and observes them, pinpointing their source. Since he's been fidgety for some time already, he quickly draws and loads his crossbow as Yochtanl and Rsss'tak prepare for combat. "I'll just go over here," he says with a small voice. He goes over to a bush and hides behind and under it, but tries to keep his line of sight to northwest as unobstructed as he can. ![]()
![]() Palag fidgets, feeling helpless as they wait and get ready while changing their plans. The waiting and expectation makes him uneasy in this situation. He is a little relieved that Yochtanl decides not to go into the fountain. He isn't too far from suggesting that they should just forget this thing and leave, but doesn't do so quite yet. ![]()
![]() Palag can't help but feel dread about the situation. He looks questioningly at Vess'Sothek and then intently at the tree but doesn't have any insights to share about it. "How far does the fountain tunnel go? Can you get out quickly if need be, or would you like a safety rope?" he asks, first from Djatrix and then from Yochtanl. ![]()
![]() When the others draw his attention back to the issue at hand, Palag looks rather worried and takes out and loads his crossbow. He advances carefully into the clearing near the fountain, but doesn't get too close – he still remembers how the fountain sprayed water with considerable force at them. He looks around and tries to not get distracted. ![]()
![]() Palag eyes the sky, not particularly worried but still wondering how bad the storms can get in these parts. He catches some of the glowing insects and then releases them by swinging them into another direction. As they come closer to the ruins, Palag again leaves Blacksock a little further away and follows warily behind the others. Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 ![]()
![]() Palag is happy that he didn't have (or at least doesn't remember) any nightmares about yesterday. He performs his morning routine and plays around with Blacksock a little. Seeing Djatrix get up, he checks not only himself but also the mule in case of any blue contagion. (Is Djatrix still bluish?) "Yeah, of course," he says casually to Yochtanl, nodding. He doesn't have any differing opinions about being wary. "I shall stay at the back. But if they do attack again and are invisible like last time, what can we do about that?" he says, preparing to leave and putting the pack saddle on Blacksock. ![]()
![]() Palag ponders Yochtanl's question, wishing he knew a little more about fey in general. "Neurotic is one way to put it, but I suppose that's not unusual, is it? Fey are a little strange. Anyway, I feel a little ...shaken. They and the birds did attack us and I felt pretty helpless." Palag tenses for a short moment while he walks and his tail makes small loops, but he relaxes quickly. "Still, their plight seems pretty severe and it'd be better if we solved it once and for all. Or, at least once." ![]()
![]() Having made sure that he isn't any bluer than before, Palag just looks at Djatrix curiously. The lizardman doesn't seem to act any weirder than before, so Palag thinks that the color doesn't go deeper than the surface. He feels some concern when Yochtanl and Rsss'tak speak about going intot he fountain to examine the crystals. "We don't all need to go in, do we?" After Rsss'tak informs them that the fey wants them to return the next day, Palag too is ready to go. "We could go back near the campsite and spend the rest of the day telling people about this place. Or getting some food. Or both! What do you say?" ![]()
![]() "What?" says Palag and looks at the others as they suddenly pause. He sees Yochtanl getting a little tense but doesn't know why. However, as soon as Rsss'tak speaks, he turns quickly to look at Djatrix again. "Ah! Oh, ha ha! Er... sorry. That's peculiar!" He certainly didn't expect anyone's color to start changing this quickly. He then quickly inspects the tip of his tail and the ends of his hair to make sure he isn't turning blue yet. ![]()
![]() Palag blinks as he sees Djatrix pop out from the fountain – apparently he had missed the fact that the third lizardman was missing for some reason or another. Since both Rsss'tak and Yochtanl voice the important questions, Palag just keeps quiet again and observes the little creature as it speaks, intrigued by the sudden changes but thinking that it is normal behavior for them. He does wish that he could understand it directly, even if he starts thinking that he can make out some words. Now that he remembers, he finally takes the bolt out of the crossbow and puts it back into a case. He listens curiously to the explanation about the crystals. "Seeping blood... I suppose we could research some magical way to absorb it, perhaps into something, and then destroy or at least contain it. I'm not that savvy with magic, but doesn't that sound doable?" He looks at Yochtanl and Djatrix. "Or maybe finding more of these crystals to absorb the blood?" ![]()
![]() Seeing how the others and especially Yochtanl place something in the fountain each in turn, Palag wonders what he could sacrifice. He isn't sure about what to give and thinks whether he has anything that has more meaning to him. Obviously his mask is such an object, but that would be too much. Looking down at himself, his eyes fixate on the pouch on his belt. It is one of the first few decent items he made when he learned how to work clothing. He unties the pouch and moves the items from it into his backpack before walking forth next to the fountain and placing the small bag in it. He watches the pouch float for a while before it starts sinking. ![]()
![]() Palag thinks about the issues Rsss'tak shares, but something eludes him. "You mentioned something about blood? I don't quite get that." He doesn't really know what to think about forgotten rites and magical means to help the creatures. He does wonder whether the druids of his late tribe ever mentioned things like that. "I'd be happy to help," he says, echoing Rsss'tak and Yochtanl. He also thinks the creatures can't understand him and assumes Rsss'tak or Vess will relay what he said. "Well... maybe not by dying," he adds with a quieter voice. ![]()
![]() "Tharrek... wait," starts Palag, but doesn't come up with anything more to say as Rsss'tak explains roughly what is going on. While Palag doesn't put away his crossbow, he lowers it and just holds it in one hand, obviously not intending to attack now that they're on speaking terms. He stands up from the bush at the root of the tree, next to Rsss'tak. "A holy place? I suppose I understand them wanting to keep people away, but killing a boy? I think that is a bit too much." His tone of voice isn't absolute or demanding, though. |
