Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Happy New Year, sir.

I'm just glad to know you are still around.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

And he was!! And a quick response, too! He said all is well, but he has had some significant life changes recently. Mostly for the better, sounds like, but they have kept him off the boards (as we've noticed). I said I would let folks know he's OK, but he wasn't sure when he would be able to regain his old posting habits.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

I loved the build of each of the characters in the party, actually. Sykala rocked - I don't know how much of that was because she was a single-class character, because she had the right skills for the adventures she was involved in, or because we had a savant in our midst playing her exceptionally well - but she always seemed to be a step or three ahead of the rest of us when things got nasty.

I second your concern for Trevor. I have his email somewhere, I need to see if he's reachable there...

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Ah dinnae 'at yer sayin' 'bout bein' over me 'ead. 'r ye callin' me short?

I seem to have a knack for playing suboptimal characters - or designing them. Probably would have been better as either a fighter or a rogue. As it was, being the only one without magic, he contributed most of the time as a speed bump or - wonder of wonders - as a historian. This has been a great ride and I appreciate all of you for letting me come along and putting up with my attempt at an accent.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Well, I really don't have a good picture of the relative positions of the different characters or bad 'uns. I guess I will do it this way:

Ovirid moves to engage the closest vampire, preferably by flanking, and attacks. He forgoes the shield bash and fights cautiously using Combat Expertise for an AC of 24 this round with the throwing axe. If there are two vampires within 5', he would give preference to the one Ixius is fighting at this point. Note, these rolls do not assume the +2 from the flank.

Attack 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Sneak Attack 2d6 ⇒ (6, 6) = 12

Attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Sneak Attack 2d6 ⇒ (3, 6) = 9

Haste attack 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Sneak Attack 2d6 ⇒ (5, 5) = 10

Confirmation roll for crit 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Damage 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 6) + 2 = 13

Now it's the dwarf's turn. Are any of the monsters within reach?

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Ovirid was beneath the opening boosting the sorcerer up, so if Ixius is on the floor with him, Ovirid is a step to one side. I'll let the DM decide what side made the most sense.

It's not the dwarf's turn, but are any of the monsters in reach after their action?

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Ovirid mutters to himself as he readies shield and axe. I don't really see him having had those in hand all this time, but if he gets credit for drawing them while the vampires were still in mist form, he will ready an attack when one gets within reach.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Initiative 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

The dwarf says, almost conversationally, "We might be fer 'avin' company."

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Ovirid glares at Refina. "Well? D'ye want t' be usin' me fer a ladder, too?" ;-)

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

"Harumph." Hands on hips, he peers upward awaiting the druid's report while he thinks on this.

Would the staves in their original positions have served as a ladder, possibly?

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

The dwarf looks down at the floor below the chamber entrance.

Gotcha, wasn't picturing the chamber being above us, sorry. He's looking for a sign of a ladder being placed below the hole or holes the staves might be inserted into to form a ladder.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

"Mebbe 'ere be a clue 'r somethin' t' stick 'em t'gether 'n th' room 'ere."

The dwarf cautiously approaches the room, looking once again for traps before entering.

Perception vs traps 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (9) + 14 = 23

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Nice roll!

Craft (trapmaking) for aid 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (1) + 15 = 16

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Ovirid looks at the staves to see if he can aid in assembling them as instructed by the stranger. What check would this require?

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

The dwarf looks at the Mage, considers, and nods.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

"'old up, lass. Ah dinnae like th' look o' th' ceilin' 'ere."

He will redouble his efforts looking for a trigger that might be related to that area of the ceiling, focusing on the staves, which he assumes are the triggers somehow.

Taking 20 looking for the trigger - if that's unnecessary or not allowed, can he take 20 on a disable check to prevent the discolored area from falling in or opening (whichever might be appropriate?)

I have not been taking his +2 for stonework checks into account. His bonus to disable a trap is +18, +16 to disable something else.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Ovirid will do what he can to make sure things are safe.

Perception 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (17) + 14 = 31

Does he see any significance in the staves or their gemstones?

Knowledge (history) 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19 +6 for checks re: pharoahs

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Ovirid will also look around for traps as the rest of the party follows the girls.

Perception vs traps 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (8) + 14 = 22

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Don't know why, but I missed your post the first time, too, Korian.

So it sounds like the girls are proceeding down the hall with the guys following. Ovirid can/would take rearguard if the party wishes.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Not if Ovirid can help it. "'old up, lass. Let me join ye."

He looks at the others to a) see if they are also following and b) see that they are staying together at least.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

I have to ask - does this include those of us with the 'Slow and Steady' racial trait?

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Ovirid tries to see if they will fit over his normal footwear, adjusting chain length and such.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4
Korian Allande wrote:
Already indicated Korian is following Sykala

So you did, sorry. Assuming Ixius is doing the same, Ovirid will play rearguard, watching everyone's backs.

When he comes 'round the corner, the dwarf grunts, "D'ye see any wide 'nuff fer dwarven feet?"

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

"Th' girls be leavin'. Get cher backside movin', bot' o' you." j/k

Ovirid heads forward with the ladies, but he won't let the two male casters out of his sight. If he can't see both pairs of allies, he will ask the girls to wait.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Ovirid wills the gaseous form effect to end after floating down to the floor. He fills the vials that he has available, as well, following Korian's example.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Ovirid will remain in gaseous form once he and Ixius issue forth from the song tube. He will wait to see out the other members of the party with to proceed.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

That's Ovirid's plan, but he's remaining near the two spellcasters. It bugs him that the party is separated again, but he's certainly not haring off without Korian after the last time he was alone.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

That depends on how long you took with your experiment. I suspect it need not have taken all that long.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

When Korian imbibes his potion and disappears into the pipe, Ovirid will motion for Ixius to follow, preparing to do the same.

When Ixius quaffs his potion, Ovirid will do so. Ovirid will follow the others.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Ovirid is not concerned with Korian's experiment. He simply doesn't want to leave the impulsive mage in his normal form alone. When the wizard takes his gaseous form, so with the dwarf.

Is there a check we need to make to see if Refina's song sounds like the one we are seeking?

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Ovirid retrieves a potion and prepares to take it. He waits until Korian commits to gaseous form before he takes his, however.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

"Thank ye, 'gain."

He follows the druid out the door.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Ovirid listens and watches.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Ovirid grunts. "Aye, did come 'n 'andy, 't 'at."

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

The dwarf nods, still unusually quiet, and accepts the spear from Sykala. He starts probing the ground ahead alongside the path tested by Korian's magically mobile crowbar.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

If anyone has a walking staff, Ovirid will put his hand out to take it from them. He's thinking to use it to tap the floor ahead of him - use it like a blind man's cane.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

"'at th' blazes...?"

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

You got an ability score bump at 6th level?

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Yeah! Maps!

Checking to see if the others are ready, Ovirid will attempt to open the doors.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Aye to the double doors.

Ovirid will check the doors again for traps. He will take 20 (for 34) unless the party wishes to move faster. Aid another checks are welcome - he's had his pride beaten out of him recently.

If the party wishes to move more quickly, Perception check vs traps: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (11) + 14 = 25

All:
I will have limited, if any, access over the next few days. Feel free to DMPC Ovirid - don't let me hold things up.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

I disavow all knowledge of orcs being launched via catapult. It's a great idea, though - Ovirid wouldn't give them the rings...

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

The dwarf stands looking thoughtfully in the direction they came from, hand in one of his pouches. He finally nods and pulls his hand out, displaying four finely-wrought rings that each appear to be a tiny circle of golden feathers laid along and beside each other.

"Got 'ese off'n a bunch o' orcs 'at attacked me 'n some lads 'long a cliff. 'ey 'ad n' fear 'bout th' 'eight 'cause if'n 'ey fell, 'ey would float down. Th' cleric wit' 's said 'ese rings did th' trick, s' Ah wear one 'n Ah took all Ah could find off'n th' dead orcs." He grins with the memory, "'ey shoulda worried 'bout th' dwarves more."

He holds his hand up to each member of the party. "Anyway, Ah been 'oldin' 'em fer a rainy day 'r if'n Ah found a weapon 'at took me fancy. 'ey do none o' 's any good 'n me pocket. Take 't, wear 't 'n good 'ealth, 'n if'n ye c'n pay me back fer 't later 'r return 't, so much th' better."

Four rings of feather falling from a previous adventure that I usually forget I have. Gives us another option if we return to the firefly shaft...

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

With a grin, "Mebbe we need t' 'elp 't get out. Korian's girlfriend 'p top 'd love t' meet 'im..."

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Ye have t' keep up, lad. ;-)

Looking back, I see that she was talking about completing the mission to find the seeds and leaving the pyramid to get Korian healed the rest of the way. Ovirid interpreted her remarks to say that we should leave and get Korian healed up now. Ovirid really cares little one way or the other about the mission - he's down here because we made a deal with the devil that required us to enter the pyramid.

He's not advocating leaving, but he's wondering if we could get away with it using the gaseous form, yes.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Thoughtfully, "Ye might be right, lass. If'n we leave, we 'ave t' deal wit' Korian's lady friend outside. C'n we float out like puffs o' steam wit' 'at potion? Mebbe after dark?"

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

"'tis a mage 'r 'as magic 'n 'is blood like Ixius. 'n 'e knows 'is place better 'n we do. 'n 'e thinks 'e's 6000 years old. 'n 'e be confident."

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

The dwarf blinks, shakes his head and looks at the mage.

"Bah! Ye 'r still walkin' 'round wit' 'alf yer wits if'n ye think Ah'm lettin' ye go 'n 'lone. Ah owe 'at critter fer stealin' a good night's rest from me. Let's go find 'im."

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

"Nay, lass. Ah'd 's soon stay 'wake fer now."

Unless the DM rules that I am fatigued or exhausted as a result of recent events...
