Onvyr sits atop his horse and lets his weapon hang at his side. He looks around as Kair gets to work, seeming to enjoy the environment.

"This place is somewhat interesting isn't it? It seems like we have all manner of independent organizations vying for control of the area and making deal in the shadows. It is just odd that the settlements that we run into seem to have no truck with these groups and even, in some cases at least, oppose them. Not that I have any particular distaste for chaos, but I find it odd that no trading post has cropped up to support these unions of shapeshifters, vampires, and whatever else. I certainly wouldn't mind shopping there."

Listening, Onvyr eats quietly until the priest brings up the disposition of the Bathory family.

"Do you find that most of the creatures of the woods are unable to enter your town? Or simply that they decline to do so. And I must say, I do wonder about these creatures if they have the ability to make trade or travel agreements. That implies some level of organization..."

Onvyr shrugs a bit at Kair's warning. "These people don't seem the Father Skinsaw type and the Reaper of Reputation is quite a handy companion to have around. I'm not very skilled at gathering information, but if someone wants to ask around, this town may be the place to find the less...common...tales of those we are chasing."

In case the holy symbols are easily visible, I'll roll a Knowledge check as well. Though Onvyr pays special attention to see if there are any evil deities at all represented.

Sitting down at the table Onvyr nods and shrugs. "Yes, mead seems fine. And I have no objection to pork."

Onvyr will attempt to talk to some of the guards and gather general information. His primary goal is actually to avoid having to take part in this particular ceremony, but he attempts to avoid refusing directly.

Once the healing has been doled out and things seem to have settled down, Onvyr mounts up. He smiles at the makeshift funeral but says nothing as he prepares to move on.

"I am ready whenever the rest of you are."

Onvyr puts his morningstar away when the combat has faded and moves to kick the now human corpse.

"Hey Cruentus, looks like we killed your cousin. Any more family out here we need to worry about?" He crouches down and takes some of the blood of the shapeshifter and slips it into his spell component pouch.

Onvyr will attempt to take a 5 foot step to keep flanking with Cruentus if possible and then take a swing at the wolf that is lying down with his morningstar.

Onvyr will dismount and move to provide flanking, preferably to Cruentus, while remaining adjacent to as few of the wolves as possible. He'll draw his morningstar as he moves.

"At least these things seem...mostly...natural."

Onvyr will move over to Kair and cast Magic weapon on his Double Axe, trying to keep the ranger between him and the oncoming creatures.

"Those are some...extremely large wolves."

I'm happy to take up the rear, I have both AC and HP to at least be a bit durable.

"Maybe we should have hired a druid to scout for us. This is much denser than I expected." Onvyr speaks, tossing a rock into the forest before mounting up and following the group.

"I'm not the largest fan of being on the water with all of these horses. Regardless of what our friendly ferryman says, this is a lot of weight in a...vulnerable...position." Onvyr says as he glances around looking for ambushers.

Onvyr nods to the woman and then laughs at Amria's comment.

"Allow me to be clear about a few things. First, I have no commitment whatsoever to some "cause". I do, however, have a strong commitment to getting paid. And our employer pays well and pays promptly. Second, I think that this assertion that an hour or two will make all of the difference is something that makes no sense. We can sit to eat a meal and spend the night in an inn instead of sleeping shifts in the back of a wagon but it is some great affront to your very ideals that anyone would suggest that seeing a festival might be an option?"

He shakes his head before continuing, "And yes, I've got an extremely favorable opinion of associating with undead. But right now undead are not, as far as I know, paying me to get a job done. If we have to kill vampires to rescue this fair maiden, then kill vampires we shall. Perhaps I should question this idiotic commitment to bringing a small pet into the manor of suspected vampires. But I don't. Do you know why? Because it matters to me not at all what your affectations are. Unless you refuse to do something that is required to get paid, I couldn't care less what decisions you make, poor or otherwise."

Onvyr eats a bit and then leans back in his chair. "So what is the plan gentlemen? Do we just enjoy the festival or do you think we should get straight to business? I'm all for a bit of enjoyment and information gathering but if we are in a rush, I won't stand in the way of our more...driven colleagues."

He nods, smiling at the woman. "Thanks. Any big attractions we should make sure we see at the harvest festival?"

He turns to Vasili and shrugs, "I agree. The gold was just a tip. I find it tends to improve moods. It isn't like we were going to do well at the incognito thing anyway, so I figure a good unusual is better than a bad unusual, right?"

Onvyr nods to woman, "Something with meat. Preferably rare but not of that raw garbage that people think of when you say rare." He takes out five gold pieces from his belt pouch and offers them to her. "And what sort of things are there to do around here? We'll be moving on soon, but I always like to sample the local flavor. No better way to learn about the history of a people than to take the advice of the locals."

Onvyr raises an eyebrow and looks over at Cruentus.

"You...uh...have twitch problems over there? I can't say I know anything at all about lycanthropy or its ilk, but should we be concerned about unpredictable changes?" He shrugs a bit, seeming to take it in stride, "Eating people I've got no issue with, but unpredictable we might have to try to predict. Don't want to suddenly start fights we didn't plan to after all. I guess unless that's the secret plan..."

Onvyr shrugs at Amria's words.

"Hell if I know. But I doubt they actually plan to, you know, eat her. At least not quickly. If they do have actual vampires as well as dhampir I'd guess they want to keep her alive to drink her blood for as long as possible. And if they actually want to make her undead...well, we're probably too late for that already. Either way, if an extra ten minutes is the difference between success and failure, I'll buy a hat just to eat it for you."

Onvyr goes to climb back on his horse and shrugs, "Actually I suspect that they don't know we are coming and are in no rush at all. Still, no reason to waste time." He turns to Kair as he starts to get his horse back on the road. "Just so you know, the burning doesn't stop...you know...people like me from doing our thing. If you want to prevent that, you should really douse things in holy water. Though burned bodies do make poor zombies."

"Did you find anything that would suggest that they were anything other than simple bandits?"

Onvyr attempts to hit the one in the tree with another bullet from his sling.

Onvyr stretches a bit as he walks with the others out of the inn, climbing up onto his mount once they are outside.

"I agree that the Redgrave estate seems our best lead at the moment. While I do agree that dealing with unpleasant constables is something of merit, they are unlikely to suddenly cease to be an issue in a few weeks. But as Vasili intimated, our young charge might not fare well if we don't rescue her. And I don't think the Baron would be all that happy if we returned with his daughter...not entirely alive. I mean I can offer some changes that I'd personally think are greater than the sad living condition for some, but that's neither here nor there."

He shrugs at Cruentus's comment, "As for notice, I don't know. If this estate is isolated, and especially if it is guarded, are going to see us coming at least some distance away. But I do agree that getting detained by a constable would...but a damper on our plans."

"Do you know where Rilla lives? Perhaps Redgrave was sloppy and left some clue at one of these locations."

Turning to Belko as he re-enters, Onvyr continues, "Where is the Bathory estate? While we will certainly search closer first, we might as well have a fall back plan if nothing else and unlike the constables, I don't mind a ride."

Assuming that I can take 10 on Knowledge (Religion) and that 15 is enough to know about vampires, I'll go with the following. Ignore it if not.

Onvyr nods to Yves.

"Yeah, and did his room have any mirrors in it? And did any of the staff fall ill or otherwise begin to behave oddly while Redgrave was here?"

Onvyr follows and does his best to at least act dignified as he moves into the staff room.

"Please do bring the staff here. We're looking for anything we can find that might provide a lead to where Redgrave has gone. Right now we have no such leads, so anything at all will be a help to us. And, may I ask, has his room been rented out again since his departure or is there value in us searching that too?"

Onvyr shakes his head. "I'd rather go to the inn than the opera house. I mean we might find something at the opera house, but I'm guessing that the inn is a more likely lead. I think we just need to find this Redgrave guy, ask him where the girl is, and then go about our business. Whether she went willingly or not, I don't really care."

Onvyr looks around the area, but doesn't search it, figuring that those already at it can find whatever is there. "The oil of taggit was about half gone and there was an ornate box with it."

Nodding to the newcomer, he shrugs, motioning toward himself. "You can hide your heritage if you like. But this guy makes people eat other people and walks around with undead from time to time. So it isn't like you are going to stand out as the creepiest guy in our little travel group. Just make sure you can dress up for the nice functions and everything will be fine. I get the bonus of passing for an elf. People think elves are all civilized."

Onyvr nods, following the butler outside. "Oil of taggit. It was in the vial that Amria found in the headboard of the bed. Hidden in a compartment there. Someone that knows the place needed to hide it, but that still doesn't tell us if it was used by the young kidnapping victim or not."

Onvyr holds up the vial and looks into it, tasting a tiny bit.

"This appears to be oil of taggit. It is used as a sleep aid or a knock out potion. But since it is so easy to get, I can't say if she just wanted it to sleep or if someone was trying to drug her."

Onvyr takes a closer look at the scratches, running his fingers over them.

Being Ustalav, I might as well check the scratches to see if they seem to have been made by some undead.

Hearing the comment about the liquid, he then walks over to it and tries to identify what the liquid might be.

Rolling Perception in case it is a potion and Knowledge (religion) in case it is something like vampire blood.

Onvyr just stands in the doorway, moving out of the way when Leanda walks in. When Vasili makes note of something at the railing, he goes over to look at it, but otherwise stays out of the way so that those searching can do so without interference.

Onvyr stands and rolls his shoulders back before moving over to the butler.

"Yeah, let's get this show on the road. The longer we wait the colder the trail gets."

Yeah, I've got no beef. And I enjoy some in character conflict. My character is pretty laid back and isn't a cleric so isn't really at risk of "violating" any tenets of a faith. I'm looking forward to working things out and seeing how the characters interact. And yeah, I think they can find common ground in the fact that there are going to be a lot of undead that EVERYONE has to kill.

Onvyr chuckles a bit and nods to Kair. "You don't have to worry about me getting the overwhelming need to get between you and the undead. Don't get me wrong, I do love Urgathoa, but we're all adults here. And it isn't like all undead are good undead. Just, you know, keep the weapons away from my undead and I'll avoid making anyone eat anyone else in front of you. Win-win."

He leans forward again, shrugging. "Besides, you'd be surprised how handy it is to have someone that can actually control the undead. Turn enemies into friends. Oh, and talk to the ones that can talk. Are you from Ustalav? This place is just filled with those that died long ago. And sometimes talking works better than fighting. That and sometimes those undead are all that's left of a culture. Shame to see it all lost."

Onvyr takes the vellum and rolls it up to carry it with his gear.

"I guess I wasn't finding people last time I was here, but I can handle this one too. If Redgrave has your daughter, I'll put him in the ground in short order and back we'll be."

He turns to the others in the room, placing an arm over the back of his chair and waving as if bowing with his free hand. "Onvyr Callisan, keeper of history, digger of graves, murderer, and practitioner of the divine arts. I do carry a needle and thread but none have ever accused me of being a physician."

Onvyr slouches in his seat, flipping a coin as he listens to the Baron speak. Once the man has finished he puts the coin into his belt pouch and leans forward, elbows resting above his knees.

"Have any of the other women this Redgrave has been seen with disappeared? And do you know where the man lives? I assume that he's local if he is a frequent visitor at your opera house."
