So I recently cast Necrotic Radiation on an area
You imbue the touched object or space with slow-acting necrotic radiation. "Range touch; Target one object or one 10-footsquare area
Duration 24 hours
If you cast the spell on an object, any creature ending its turn holding or carrying the object takes 2d6 negative damage. If you cast the spell on an area, any creature ending its turn in the area takes 2d6 negative damage. You can attempt to use this spell on an attended object by touching the object. If you do, the creature attempts a Reflex save to reduce the effect."

In all of the results it reads only for the casting on an item. So does the area attack really last for 24 hours?

So my game has gone....slightly of the rails and now I have a barbarian with essentially a backpack for a goblin (PC as well) to ride in. Now I want to make this as fair as possible so I'm wondering about combat. Im fine with having them take their own initiative to do actions and the Goblin can't move unless they take an action to climb out and an action to move. However what (if any) should the barbarian get for moving? Are there any mounted combat rules that I should look at specifically to make this run better?

So in my game recently a question came about. Is it possible to change the disposition of an animal?
There is a skill that lets you use diplomacy on an animal to make an impression however that is before combat and if the animal is hostile it will not work. Previously you could use nature to try and calm an animal down is there a skill or rule that you would use to do that now? Or is it a feet? We couldn’t find any answer in the books, and we are trying to play the game as raw as possible

I apologize if this has been asked and answered before but I couldn’t find it in my searching. For initiative being rolled will any skill work if appropriate? Or is it only really stealth and or perception?
As per the core rule book “ Typically your rule perception check to determine your initiative the more aware you are of your surroundings the more quickly you can respond. Sometimes, though, the GM might call on YouTube or some other type of check. For instants if you were avoiding notice during exploration usual stealth check. A social encounter could call for a deception or diplomacy check.” (Page 468)

Are the examples listed the only exceptions or are they just examples of using different skills for initiative.

So I’m trying to not use milestones in the Age of Ashes AP and want to hand out XP after each encounter. Some of the encounters have XP listed but for the ones that don’t, what does Severe X mean.

I’ve read table 10-2 Creature XP and Role (page 489 Core Rulebook) is that the reward that the players get? Does the Severe/Moderate/Low modify the amount of XP earned?

What am I missing?

According to the rules when you get the wounded condition-
"You have been seriously injured. If you lose the dying condition and do not already have the wounded condition, you become wounded 1. If you already have the wounded condition when you lose the dying condition, your wounded condition value increases by 1. If you gain the dying condition while wounded, increase your dying condition value by your wounded value.

The wounded condition ends if someone successfully restores Hit Points to you with Treat Wounds, or if you are restored to full Hit Points and rest for 10 minutes."

What happens if you get wounded 5/6 by effects and you don't fall into the dying condition? Can you stack wounded past 4?

So I have two questions that even after reading and re-reading I have questions that I just don't understand.

1- Persistent damage is a condidtion that says the following- "Persistent damage comes from effects like acid, being on fire, or many other situations. It appears as “X persistent [type] damage,” where “X” is the amount of damage dealt and “[type]” is the damage type. Instead of taking persistent damage immediately, you take it at the end of each of your turns as long as you have the condition, rolling any damage dice anew each time. After you take persistent damage, roll a DC 15 flat check to see if you recover from the persistent damage. If you succeed, the condition ends." Does this mean that the spell Heal doesn't stop persistent? How about treat wounds or Battle Medicine? Heal, battle medicine, and treat wounds don't specifically state that it ends it.

2- Identify Magical Items. I don't understand how to have this work. Detect Magic lets you "You send out a pulse that registers the presence of magic. You receive no information beyond the presence or absence of magic. You can choose to ignore magic you’re fully aware of, such as the magic items and ongoing spells of you and your allies." How would a level 1 character identify a magical item?

Either the real world equivalent of Korvosa, Cheliax, Shonti, and Irrisen
OR
A Pathfinder style cookbook with lists of food from all around the world.

Thank you

Is there a page or anything that tells you how far players can see in normal light?

The answer is as long as they are "clearly visible". So not "obscured by the environment".

CRB PG. 464 "Precise Senses" wrote:

Average vision is a precise sense—a sense that can be

used to perceive the world in nuanced detail. The only
way to target a creature without having drawbacks is
to use a precise sense. You can usually detect a creature
automatically with a precise sense unless that creature is
hiding or obscured by the environment, in which case you
can use the Seek basic action to better detect the creature.

This essentially means, as long as the GM thinks it is reasonable for you to be able to sense them with your eyes. That could be a long distance from an elevated surface with good light and no fog, etc... or within 10 feet of your eyes if you are in a deep fog bank or something similar.

Darkvision similarly no longer has a specific range that I can find and so would have a similar restriction. That and Darkvision specifically imposes a "black and white" picture of the world, so do with that as you will.

Awesome!! Thank you!!

So how far can someone with Darkvision see in total darkness? The rule books says that
“ Core Rulebook pg. 465
A creature with darkvision or greater darkvision can see perfectly well in areas of darkness and dim light, though such vision is in black and white only. Some forms of magical darkness, such as a 4th-level darkness spell, block normal darkvision. A creature with greater darkvision, however, can see through even these forms of magical darkness.” But it doesn’t give a distance of darkvision. I’m assuming its as far as normal vision but any clarification would be great. Thanks

I was looking at the Age of Ashes players guide and under the “Emancipated” background it says Ravounel succeeded from Cheliax. However I’ve been looking for a time line and cant seem to find the year that it happened. Could someone please point me in a direction to find that out.

Also on a side note is there a good time line with everything that has happened from 1E Pathfinder through all the AP’s to 2E Pathfinder?

So I was running SFS games with my friends and we found it fun but, we'd rather play Pathfinder. We know it and its a more comfortable setting for us. However I really wanted to give Starfinder its due diligence and to do that I needed to either play or hear people play the game properly. I dont have much extra time outside of my once a week group, so to the internet I went. I found an amazingly detail oriented Actual Play podcast out there called Roll For Combat (https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/roll-for-combat-a-starfinder-actual-pl ay-podcast/id1289105668?mt=2) The GM is great and the notes about how to be a better Starfinder GM, to me, are invaluable. The podcasts sounds like a real table of friends playing a RPG. Also they go over the rules in session on things that need to be clarified. It is a more tactical and rules heavy approach to a game, but you can tell that its how the group works normally.
Anyway this podcast made my GMing SFS and the Starfinder AP better and my friends and I are enjoying the game more now because of the clarifications that the podcast have given me. So just a little heads up if you are looking for a good Actual Play and learning more about Starfinder.
