Male Goliath Barbarian 1

Look after yourself Fabes. We'll be here when you want to come back.

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

Monoc takes the 10 healing, putting him at 26 / 31 HP. Is anyone tracking our XP? :)

Monoc, back in control of his legs, helps hide the bodies out of sight in the ruins.

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

On Taanak's turn Monoc uses a healing surge. Now on 16 HP, no longer bloodied.

Unable to move from his current square, Monoc summons his reserves of strength.

Second wind. Now on 23 HP. +2 all defenses until somnt. Save: 1d20 ⇒ 20.

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

Monoc slumps to the ground beside the ruined doorway, pierced with envenomed darts. The half-giant's hands scrabble feebly against ancient stone as he tries ineffectually to pull himself back into cover.

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

16 HP remaining. Stones endurance until end of Monoc's turn.

Monoc grunts as the blade pierces his hide, but snarls and steps forward anyway. He strikes at the foe in front of him, feeling revitalised by the combat...

Resurgent strike (AC): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16; damage 2d12 + 6 ⇒ (8, 4) + 6 = 18. Monoc gains 3 temp hit points.

So Ojal and Lemris next. Not sure where the silt runner comes in initiative. Maybe it will just faint with fear at Monoc's sudden appearance. In fact, intimidate might have been a better option than my complete failure of a plan.

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

So that was an even lower percentage move than I thought! Still, was the only way I could see to have a chance of maintaining surprise. So, Monoc is next to the runner, with a grab roll of 4, and grants combat advantage. And is on his own. Oops.

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

Oh well, nice idea anyway...

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

Monoc stares at the silt runner for endless seconds, brain churning. With a low snarl the huge barbarian hurls himself forwards, hands outstretched to stop the silt runner from fleeing.

Run action to move to Q6 (grant combat advantage until next turn). Use action point to grab the runner. Strength vs Ref: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9.

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

Monoc gestures for the others to follow him, and hopes they will react before the silt-runner can run to warn the others.

Has Monoc used his full action, or can he try to incapacitate the runner in some fashion?

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

That's awesome! Congratulations, and come back when you can or want to :)

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

Hi guys - just got back from a weekend snowboarding. Was awesome but the lodge, unexpectedly, didn't have wifi. What decade is this, anyway?

Monoc's blood is up and after Shamash smashes the last drake to the floor, the half-giant leaps the corpse and charges up the stairs. Fresh blood, fresh kill! The kreen's sensible advice comes, too late. He stops at he top of the stairs and surveys the scene, ready to call on the legendary toughness of his people if the silt people are ready with an ambush.

Move to top of the stairs. Ready action to use Stone's Endurance (You gain resist 5 to all damage until the end of your next turn) if any of the creatures at the top of the stairs are in position to attack.

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

Thanks for saving my first-ever 4E crit :) Much appreciated Fabes, and I'll remember that about corners...

"Maybe someone should help T'klik?" Monoc rumbles as his head clears from the dizzying joy of the kill.

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

Monoc strides forward beside Shamash, to deliver his own howling blow against the bloodied drake.

Move to W15. Howl of Fury: (Primal, Thunder, Weapon) One creature. +6 vs. AC. 1d12 + 6 damage. You then howl in a blast 3 that includes the target. Each enemy in the blast, other than the target, takes thunder damage equal to your Constitution modifier (+3).
Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 6 + 2 = 28. Damage: 1d12 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8.

EDIT: Crit, and weapon property: High crit - a critical hit deals maximum damage plus an extra 1d12. SO that's 12 + 6 + 1d12 ⇒ 12 + 6 + (6) = 24 damage to D2, and 3 damage to D1.

If D2 is reduced to 0 HP then use Roar of Triumph: (Fear, Primal) Close burst 5. Trigger - your attack reduces an enemy to 0 hit points. Effect - each enemy in burst takes a -2 penalty to all defenses until the end of your next turn.

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

Monoc Strides forward to stand near Taanak and Shamash. Q-14

"Does anyone know of these creatures?" Dungeoneering: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (3) + 0 = 3.

Monoc... does not.

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

Init: 1d20 ⇒ 10

Monoc's scarred face splits in a gruesome grin. "Cousins of yours, Shamash?"

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

Monoc follows close behind his dray companion, eyes watchful and alert.

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

"I will follow your lead out of this place, friend Shamash. These stone pictures disturb me." Monoc is not comfortable with the sight of men fighting the primal forces of the world. It seems like some twisted dream quest from the shaman of his mountain tribe - a nightmare inversion of how the world should be.

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

"These tunnels are confusing. No sun, no wind, no view," agrees Monoc.

Personally I feel like my brain has gone into hibernation till spring. No such excuse for you northern hemisphere types though!

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

Dungeoneering: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (1) + 0 = 1.

Monoc is, if anything, slightly more bewildered than Ojal.

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

Heh, OK then. Guess I was just being over-sensitive to signs of the party going in different directions :) And yeah, I'm happy to go have another crack at the silt runners. Just so long as we don't run into the whole village.

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

Hi guys, do we need to have a quick OOC conversation about where we're going? If I'm right we currently have two options? We can either go deeper into the tomb complex and see what ancient treasures and perils we find. Or we can head back to the surface and look for the main camp of the stilt-runners.

Recalling our first fight with the stilt-runners, I'm not sure we can actually take a whole camp of them just yet. Equally, in a sandbox style game I don't know how well we'll fare in ancient tombs, at least without being very very careful.

So, what are we going to do?

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

Monoc looks back and forth in confusion as Ojal and T'klik head in opposite directions. He doesn't really care which plan the group follows, but splitting up at this point is certainly not good.

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

History: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (5) + 0 = 5.

"These names are not in the songs of my people." Monoc looks at the carven images of small people with interest but without understanding.

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

"Ah. That's good. So, we hunt silt people?"

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

"They flee. Why follow the stone stone eaters? Choice for us is Stone Door or Silt Runners. Silt Runners may have food, Stone Door may have secrets and power."

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

Monoc steps up into the light in response to Shamash's call to action. Looking round he decides that the creature in the corner of the room represents the greatest threat to Lemris and Ojal.

"A mistake, stone-eater. You will not harm them"

He charges the lone enemy as flickers of thunder play around his obsidian war-pick.

mechanics:

Shift to I10. Move to K9. Encounter power Mark of Thunder: (Primal, Thunder, Weapon) One creature. +6 vs. AC. 1d12 +6 thunder damage. You mark the target until the end of your next turn. Until the mark ends, if the target makes an attack that does not include you, it takes 5 thunder damage. Attack 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22; damage 1d12 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17.

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

Monoc rises, peering through the darkness and rubbing sleep from his eyes. "We need to take them down quick. I want sleep."

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

G10 for Monoc please. Init is 1d20 ⇒ 8. Okay, so maybe this wasn't the safest place to camp after all...

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

"We can set a strong guard here, and need rest. Maybe door opens at sunrise, or if we light fire, or if we hit it with axe." Monoc stares at the dor in consideration.

I don't fancy another fight without a decent rest. And surely a door in a cave must have treasure behind it! Otherwise what's the point?!?

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

"We came to explore. We should explore. Maybe we rest first?"

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

Very sorry for the disappearance - geeky friend in Canada very unexpectedly did not have internet. Will read through, catch up, and get involved ASAP.

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

Monoc advances to stand beside Ojal. "Shiny. Is weapon or toy?"

Burn 2 surges to get back to full HP

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

Ha thanks Taanak. That's 21 vs AC then.

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

Posting early, hopefully won't overlap with Lemris. If Lemris kills the adult I'll use the same roles charging the remaining young Kruthic.

Monoc nods in recognition to Shamash, but does not shift his position. He simply grits his teeth and growls in anger at the adult Kruthic, then attacks.

Resurgent Strike: (Primal, Weapon) One creature. +6 vs AC. You either gain 3 + your Constitution (+3) modifier temporary hit points or end one dazing or weakening effect on yourself. The target then takes 2d12 +6 damage.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 192d12 + 6 ⇒ (2, 10) + 6 = 18

Monoc has 13 HP + 6THP. Bloodied.

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

So far have spent a few days in the Cotswalds, and now up in East Yorkshire with old university friends for a weekend. Quite strange now that people are starting to have kids!

Monoc advances and strikes the insect menace, giving voice to a howl of pain and rage.

Move to C6, attack with Howl of Fury: (Primal, Thunder, Weapon) One creature. +6 vs. AC. 1d12 + 6 damage. You then howl in a blast 3 that includes the target. Each enemy in the blast, other than the target, takes thunder damage equal to your Constitution modifier (+3). Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23, damage 1d12 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8. Blast is centered on D7, might take out any nearby hidden minions.

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

If it is still alive on his turn, Monoc will charge the bug at E5. Attack 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23 vs AC, damage 1d12 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13. If the target is already dead, redirect to any other target in charge range. If no targets are in range, hold an action to attack first target that appears.

Heads up that I'm about to get on a 27 hour flight from New Zealand to the UK. So no posts from me for a while. After that I'll be on vacation in the UK for 4weeks. Will be able to post most days, but may miss a couple. Happy for anyone to step in as required to keep momentum.

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

Move to E10

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

Ho hum. Another 4e rule learned. Not sure any of us are in a great place to effectively use a single action.

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

Initiative: 1d20 ⇒ 3

Monoc is no less eager than T'klik, but far less swift.

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

Sorry! G15 for Monoc please. Stealth: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (20) - 1 = 19

Monoc moves silent as the breeze, at one with the desert. Somehow.

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

"We advance to caves? Rocks are good cover, only problem is burrows. I think enemy try to flank us. I stay at rear, surprise them."

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

Happy with caves, would like to come back and explore the ruins another time.

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

"They can sing songs of the potter's march and our glorious deaths. Unless we win."

"Let's win".

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

Monoc's idea of searching is to pick the corpses up by one ankle and shake them. He tosses the searched bodies into a heap as he finishes.

To Shamash as they search, "If no more silt runners come, do we attack them? Or retreat?"

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

Monoc will stay with Shamash, defending the base of the rocks. He will also spend enough surges to get back to full HP.

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

Monoc is content to let the last darter escape, rather than risk running into a new ambush.

"We make stronghold in rocks?"

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

Thanks mate. OK, so Monoc is no longer immobilised, but is still prone in N4.

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

Oops sorry Fabes, forgot the save. Last turn: 1d20 ⇒ 7. Looks like Monoc didn't get up last turn - not sure if he can use his second wind while immobilised?

This turn save: 1d20 ⇒ 11. Hmm, now I wish there was an online rule book for 4e - what's the magic number again? If that's a succesful save Monoc will move to M10 to get some cover and get close enough to do some damage next turn.

Male Goliath Barbarian 1

Monoc comes round as the healing coolness from Taanak's power wash over him. He takes a moment to steady himself and assess the battle before the rage overcomes him again.

Healing surge spent from Taanak's Healing Spirit (+7HP). Move action to stand up. Standard action Second Wind (+7HP, +2 all defenses until somnt). Minor action to burn the Spirit of the Healing Flood (+10HP, don't see this fight lasting another 5 rounds). Back to 21HP.
