![]() Haven't thought about it yet. Because the flights are so long, I'm probably going to spend about 2 weeks in the US and visit other cities, too. So I'm probably pick my routes and flight dates based on the most optimal cost & duration (and which states and cities seem like the most fun to visit along the way). ![]()
![]() Silbeg wrote: Heya, Mikko! I have to say that Ancients Anguish is one of berst scenarios that I have ever played! Great job! Thanks, Jack! And thanks for the review! I've got more adventures coming out this year, and I'll be sure to post a link here when they're available. By the way, any news on Gen Con and hotel bookings? I talked about the con with a friend who might be going as well. Traveling with a friend makes the long flights and jet lag a little bit more tolerable. And the hangovers caused by beer sampling, too. ![]()

Typos and other errors are annoying, especially ones that are beyond your control. But personally I don't find it to be anything to get my balls in a knot about. I read my contributor copy, duly note the changes that have been made and any mistakes that there are (mine or otherwise). Then I move on and focus on the next project, and the one after that. ![]()

Thanks man! As for the hotels, if you happen to hear about when booking is possible, please send me a pm. I'll probably also try to book as soon as possible. Silbeg wrote:
If I make it to Gen Con, I'll definitely join your group to play a game or two! Not sure if I'm GMing, though. christopher lockwood wrote: @ Mikko: and your scenario is level range 7-11, thanks for writing it specifically with my precious toon, Ibid, in mind :) You're welcome! :D I hope Ibid won't die. ;-) -Karma- wrote:
Now you know why I recently wanted to play DotS and the Bacon.. Beacon Below so badly. Ancients' Anguish is basically a sequel. Anyway, Tampere is always worth visiting! ![]() Hey y'all! How's it going? Just wanted to mention that you should play this scenario later this year: Ancients' Anguish. Oh, and are you guys going to Gen Con in 2016? Sorry if you already discussed it upthread and I missed it. I've really been thinking about it and now I'm about 75% sure I'm going. Karma, are you going to Tracon hitpoint in Tampere? I'll probably be GMing the scenario on Friday that weekend. Remains to be seen. Lockwood, what's new? :) ![]()
![]() RPGSS starting in August was a bit of a surprise, and we (the judges) decided we'll start Here Be Monsters later than we originally intended. On the one hand, we don't want to take away any attention from RPGSS, and on the other hand, we don't want to risk losing potential contestants. Anyway, I hope you'll enjoy the Haunting of Hinojai. I should play more PFS, I can't even remember if I've played any scenarios since PaizoCon... ![]()
![]() Hey hey hey, RPG Superstar begins soon and as you know, the top 4 contestants get to write a PFS module each, so y'all should enter. (Especially you, Lockwood! And you Karma, since Finland needs a third Top 4 finalist...) Since I'm not part of the contest in any official capacity this time around, I'll gladly comment on any magic items you're planning to submit. ![]()
![]() Thanks for the comments, guys! I'm very glad to hear that the paranoia, the amount of choice, the surprises, etc. worked as intended. :-) Damo did a great job at GMing the scenario. The RP and additional details provided really brought the location and characters alive. By the way, how do you extract the images from the PDF? I love the art in Paizo's products and want to make a wall collage (or something), so the technique you're using would be useful. I agree that the bbeg doesn't always have to be the toughest opponent, but I'd argue that the last encounter in any scenario should be more challenging / epic / intense than anything that precedes it, otherwise it'll be a bit of an anti-climax. Though there are many different ways to make an encounter feel epic, tough opponents are usually the most obvious and admittedly, the easiest option. Sometimes, though, the illusion of danger or not knowing what is going to happen next is enough to make an encounter memorable. (Karma and I recently played a scenario where the fear of the unknown was used to great effect in an encounter that was otherwise not very challenging.) Speaking of anti-climaxes, I fully intended the last encounter in my scenario to be challenging, but I think most groups can quite easily get enough DPs to make Zaril sickened and he won't be much of a challenge. Balancing the level of difficulty in a scalable encounter is not easy, it seems. Like Damo, I'm glad Stinkeye survived the encounter. It's is easily my favorite NPC in the scenario even though it can't even speak. :-D It was fun to deconstruct the typical basilisk encounter and build something completely different. ![]()
![]() Sorry to hear about the laptop, Damo. Well, it looks like the scenario is all but finished. Mr. Namoth.. err Mr. Valacosti I mean is pretty much screwed thanks to Miro's spell. :D It didn't go any better for Zaril when he fought our group, my melee dwarf critted with a waraxe and it was easy for another character to kill him. ![]()
![]() So, it looks like you guys finished playing Part II some time ago.. I played it on Thursday and it was a pretty good scenario, overall. Nothing special about the first two encounters, but the dino chase was fun (and more dynamic than most chase encounters). The final encounter had some interesting terrain and we very nearly got TPK'd... I guess the players expected an easy fight and got careless. The scenario felt really short, as though one encounter had been missing. How it went: The character sheet for my level 4 character (Moon-Flower) was missing, and I didn't want to play a pre-gen, so I chose my level 2 dwarf, Ammuhab. Knowing that a single mistake in Subtier 4-5 could easily kill a level 2 character, it was a pretty intense experience for me. Though of course, Ammuhab is a dwarf, meaning he's more badass than the level 3-5 characters in the group. ;-)
Initially, the final encounter was going really well for us. But then, one by one, Ammuhab's friends went down -- not because Kalim hit hard but because he had his buffs up and was hard to hit while he was able to deal damage consistently. Some bad die rolls were involved, too. In the end, only my level 2 dwarf and Kalim, level 7 hunter, were standing. Thankfully, Ammuhab hits hard, really hard, especially when bloodraging, and luckily, as written, Kalim's tactics dictated that he heal himself whenever below a hp threshold. So, despite his much higher level, Ammuhab was able to defeat him in single combat. That's what you get if you pick up a fight with a dwarf. :p ![]()
![]() Damien Wilmann wrote: Can you tell me if I've missed something from Part 1 where it explicitly explains that Sharrowsmith is still in Ashkurhall? From the journal entry, it looks like he's actually going to the Krihirik tribe next to find the orb. I figured Part 2 would be Pathfinders chasing after him there... but the opening summary for Part 2 tells me otherwise. Other than the fact that his bag is at the altar, I don't know where it says he's beneath the ruins! As a GM, I genuinely didn't know that he was. In Part II you're looking for the talisman, not Sharrowsmith. I haven't read Part I closely enough to remember what is said there, but the summary in Part II is correct; the PCs shouldn't expect to find the VC in the Kaava Lands. Anyway, I'll be playing Part II on Thursday next week. Even though Mike and I exchanged information while we were writing the scenarios, I don't know every detail, so I won't be reading your gameplay thread until I've played it myself. But after that, I'll check out your thread and see how similar or different it was for you guys. :-) ![]()
![]() You guys are really fast! I just had a look at the Sky Key Part I thread and noticed you already finished playing it. I also played it a while ago and enjoyed the first encounter at Fort Bandu. The rest of the encounters were sadly little more than speed bumps for our group, but nevertheless, we had a good time, thanks to our excellent GM and the players. I hope you'll enjoy parts II and III! (The third one's mine.) Mikko / serpent p.s. I now have a stalker avatar to avoid confusion. ;-) |
