Interesting. You can make a pretty strong debuffer with this, using deliberating strike.

Switch hitting is a good choice and kineketist does it naturally.

Wasnt there a barrage option for ur kenetic blasts? Lowers the dmg to base but let's u do a number of attacks? It's a good option with SA, and when u can't get it one big hit pays off more.

Question: twf and kenetic blade (Aether) ... Could you empower one end of a double weapon?

Yeah that's right, I wasn't looking at the page. I think it could make a good gestalt.combo though ... Make a pally/magus for instance

Saddly the archtype suffers with delayed spell strike till mid levels. Their arcane points are in extreamly high demand ... You need to spend 2 for the blood line powers, one to be able to spell strike, 1 to enchant ur weapon. And you lose some of the top class features. Oddly enough I did enjoy the class and combined it with a staff magic for a mid game power house. Both archtype come online very late.

One thing is the Artful Dodge feat says you can use Int in place of Dex For any feat requirements.

SO You wouldn't need a high dex, you could dump it down to 12-14 and prioritize Con more or something.

I wanted to try to avoid multiclassing. You had to when you went Dex based just for the feat requirements. I think a Str Based Investigator can get away without it. Mostly because i think that there are more ways to buff your STR.

Hmm, i guess in the current game meta Natural Weapon Stacking just killed TWF. If your Str based might as well take a 2 handed weapon and power attack with it right?

Some new source books came out, family the new tool box. Before this it was hard to do a good twf Investigator without going Super Dex. Now we have the Artful Dodger feat and I would like to discuss an Str based twf Investigator.

Could going str help in the early levels of an investigator? He has alot more options when it comes to buffing for an Str build.

Yeah, a fun archtype is now playable :)

I personally would go quarter staff master and shield as above.

What about taking that new elven spear? It may not be twf but u can focus on dex with it ... Finesse it ... And get Dex to DMG.

Would it be possible to stack DR in there as well? I had an idea trying to stack fast healing here with something like the DR stacking from a barb archetype.

I been liking elf a lot, dex and intended based characters benefit a lot (Investigators/Inspiring blade/ext.)

Better then 3.5 where they would all be humans lols

Depending on hid level and focus it could be a ways off. There are certain combat ones that are almost required at first. If he totally skips them I would assume he is forgoing combat effectiveness completely.

All and all, talk to the player. Work something out. Maybe give him a flat bonus on his checks and take some dice away.

I dont think Reincarnation would do it ... its still the same soul.

Be careful, if you fail to follow out your own gods will you could lose your patronage. Its a tricky thing being involved in the battle of Good vs Evil when your friend falls.

He actually managed to make make these checks? Damn, he must really want to be a demon. So then you have to ask yourself does he want to be saved?

You will have a very mixed reaction to the new rule set. Its one of the reasons its optional. Depending on the level and classes etc it cab be a Nerf to a character. I have played several systems with a rule set a lot like this one, and it is a very different way of playing. It would be a good idea to sit down with the group and have a fair discussion over it. A barbarian at level 1 probably wouldn't mind the extra attack for the attack penalty. A wizard though my complain how it affects his casting.

Personally, they are just being jerks looking for a good time with what they think is evil. Going around killing inocent people and talking back ... Yeah no.

I would have a NPC come in a put them in their place. A low level evil PC pretty much are slaves to a higher evil person. Evil is ruled by the strong if u are weak or incompetent then you a are dead. If you prove ur self useful then you earn the right to stick around. If someone comes along and kills you well then u just too weak to survive.

I had a similar build. I just fluffed my monsterious physique as making me looks like a half dragon. Just let the gm know hey I am using the 4 armed gargoyle but doing it to look more like this.

The stupid amounts of bonuses from this bud is amazing. And that saddle just blew my mind. Pretty much frees up all the feats on our companion ...

Edit

Well the benefit of the feat is one thing, it doesn't give them the feat. But if you and another PC get a bonus it would then extend to him.

While cool it doesn't bestow proficiency which is the overall goal.

How often does that happen in society?

My question would be how hard would it be to enchant such a weapon/remove enchant/reenchant instead of buying new ones ect?

Basically can you see a pathfinder society PC keeping the same weapon all 12 levels? Enchanting and all ....

So I am making a PFS elven investigator. Who is not proficient with is not normally proficient with martial weapons. Weapon Familiarity (forgive spelling) states that elfs treat all elven weapons as martial weapons. So then heirloom weapons was made only allow me to use one weapon (Martial or Simple). Would this allow my investigator to use an elven weapon through heirloom weapon?

And actually I like the idea of dipping fighter mutagen warrior better. Gives me a talent, prof, fort bump, at the cost of a few skill points.

Oooh question, heirloom weapon? Would it work for an elf who considers elven weapons martial?

Oddly enough by dipping into swashbuckler I gain proficiency with the eleven curve blade .... Just to mock me!

Ok, well I have one way of taking it ... Adopted trait tangu.
But I will have to think about that, at some point optimization just is too cheesy. I have plenty of time to flesh out the build. But overall sad panda :*(

There has been a lot of good advice, I am tempted to go inspired blade. I just hesitate to give up a level of investigator. It does kinda scream it ... Though my cha is trash for the dodge deed.

Ok we did our best, seems like all options have been discussed. If anyone can think of anything else feel free. I may wait to see if that new book gets added to society.

ELF's get weapon familiarity with any weapon with the word elven in it...

And as an elf I am really feat starved to go twf or archery really.

I am looking for a Dex like build with as little feat usage as possible because I want to use 1-2 feats for extra talents.

I don't see artful dodger or circling mongoose anywhere. Is it pfs legal?

Yeah I did kind of design him for a elven curved blade. I am not overly worried about his wisdom but his con does worry me a bit.

This is going to be a society character.
At best I only have 2-3 feats left. I want to try to keep 1-2 extra talents

Quick study
Mutagen
Are must haves
I want the umd one def
And maybe one or two skill group ones
Maybe a potion one ...

So I was playing a few different classes for my first Parhfinder society character. I was going to do an EK but since early acces got faqed I been a bit lost. I instead tried out a dervish of dawn bard and while it was fairly decent in combat I felt he was lacking. So I think I want alittle less combat and some more skills. I found the investigator and think he can be a cool addition to any group given some work.

So I am using the archetype Empiricst to combine with Student of Philosophy and just dump cha.

Stats
14 str
17 dex
10 con
18 int
10 wis
7 cha

So u was thinking I have some dex and str so I can pick up a bow and Maybe a eleven curved blade. I can use potions and mutagens to buff stats as needed.

So maybe
weapon Finese
Power attack
*
*
Extra talent
Extra talent

Help me think of a good path to go ...shield of swings? Combat expertise? Spring attack?

That is a much debated topic, and since i want to build a Society Legal PC i have to assume the worse. Unless they properly FAQ it, as of raw it currently dosnt give "Shield Proficiency".

The Madu however does require Exotic Weapon Proficiency to use. That i can say for sure i do need.

If a ruling comes out other wise i am more then happy to bump up Improved Shield Bash and open up a feat :D

OK well i worked on the build my self, changed to a half elf for the Precption, low light or dark vision (Half Drow). Kinda makes the first 2 or 3 levels a bit wonky. Cuz i would prefer Shield Prof/Improved Shield Bash at level 1. But beggers cant be picky.

What stats should i go for? If i get the belt of mighty hurling, i guess i can have a minimum Dex and focus on Str.

Half elf
Dual minded- Help Will Saves
Ancestral Arms- Exotic Weapon Madu

Again the goal is to provide the basic feats so that i can use Martial Versatility to basically be an effective Switch Hitter.

Brawler Shield Champion
1 Shield Prof (Stupidly required) / (HE) Exotic madu
2 (B) Improved Shield Bash
3) Combat expertise
5 Dodge / (B) Shield Focus
7 Extra Martial Flexibility
8 (B) Improved Critical (Madu)
9 Two Weapon Fighting
11 Bashing Finish / (B) Shield Slam
(B)= Brawler Bonus
(HE)= Half Elf

(Free Feats)
Far Shot
Improved Unarmed Strike
Greater Shield Focus
Shield Mastery

Martial Flexibility
Power Attack/Pummeling Style/Pummeling Charge (Melee Charge!)
Crane Style/Crane Wing/Crane Riposte (Turtle!)
Deadly Aim /Two Handed Thrower (Ranged no one in melee)
Point Blank/Precise Shot (Shooting into Melee)

Potential Traits
Threatening Defender= Comat Expertise reduced Penalty
Think of any other cool traits?

Help me improve my Build and make it Society Legal!

Basically the idea is a switch hitter type build, where i can make Combat Expertise Useful! Twf with Shield and Fist in melee and throwing the shield while at ranged. Basic idea is get all the Preqs for combat styles (Melee/Range/Defensive) and when i need to preform a task i have Martial Flexibility!

Brawler Shield Champion
1 Improved Shield Bash / (H) Shield Proficient (Defense) (Stupid Design Flaw)
2 (B) Exotic Weapon Prof Madu
3 Combat Expertise
5 Dodge / (B) Shield Focus
7 Extra Martial Flexibility
8 (B) Improved Critical
9 Two Weapon Fighting
11 Bashing Finish / (B) Shield Slam

(B)= Brawler Bonus
(H)= Human

(Free Feats)
Far Shot
Improved Unarmed Strike
Greater Shield Focus
Shield Mastery

Martial Flexibility
Power Attack/Pummeling Style/Pummeling Charge (Melee Charge!)
Crane Style/Crane Wing/Crane Riposte (Turtle!)
Deadly Aim /Two Handed Thrower (Ranged no one in melee)
Point Blank/Precise Shot (Shooting into Melee)

Potential Traits
Shield-Trained= Shield Proficiency (Attacking) (Not sure i need it)
Threatening Defender= Comat Expertise reduced Penalty

Thank you, now i can check those requirements off and proceed with my build.

ooh 1 question, What if i am trained in the Madu but not Light Shields?

What i am thinking is, not making my self Proficient with attacking with a Light Shield ... cuz i am already spending a feat to become proficient attacking with the madu.

Basically Skipping the Trait because i spent a feat anyways to be able to use the shield as a weapon.

EvilTwinSkippy wrote:
Brawlers automatically gain proficiency w/ the Madu, as it's one of the weapons in the Fighter close weapon group.

I didnt even mention the Brawler ... And the Shield Champion (Which i am Looking at) dosnt get Shield Proficiency. It Specifically Mentions Heavy,Light, and Bucklers.

So i have to take the feat to qualify for other shield feats (Waste of a Feat from poor Design).

So my Question is if I Take Shield Proficiency do i become proficient with the Madu (As it requires for Use).

*******************************************************************
Also would this trait enable me to use the Madu?
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/traits/religion-traits/shield-trained

What feat do i need to take to become Proficient with the Madu?

Does Shield Proficiency? Give it to me? Or do i have to Take Exotic Proficiency Madu? (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/equipment---final/armor/madu)

Both you can combine them.

You can also go twf since they are thrown weapons.

I'm also new to PFS and looking for my first Society game. If we can't get anything tonight, do you want to try tomorrow?

There is a game Friday evening, around 9pm Eastern Time. It may be full i dont know.

No one running any late night games tonight?

:(

I am very new to Pathfinder Society. I have a bi-weekly game playing through First Lore ect.

I am looking for a group that can ethier go Biweekly or weekly so long as it dosnt interfere with my current bi-weekly game.

I am familiar with Skype, google sheets, and roll20

My first character is a level 1 Arcanist who i may switch to a swashbuckler, (according to the level 1 rules, allowing me to augment before level 2). Eventually i think i will turn him into an EK if i can manage to get the requirements.

I am excited to be taking a part in the Society :D

Thank you for explaining, it makes sense. Wish they would have added "So long as you benefit from the ac bonus of the madu ..."

Would improve sword and board as well as combat expertise.

Well my phone is dying but feel free to give me ideas. If I don't use the madu and combat expertise what 2 feats would u suggest for dmg ar defense.

Ok I have a chance to get back to everyone now.

Actually with early entry my Bab is just 1 point below a fighters the entire time. So and with the support PC I feel comfortable with the penalties. Of course I don't plan to stack them on all at once.

I know and love he magus, this PC is specifically different because I wanted to be different.

Plz explain how fighting defensively doesn't allow for me to use weapon finesse or fencing grace. (Rereading piranha strike made me sad)

Also believe it or not I never intended to attack with the shield. No twf.

Out of all the things no one complains that I can't cast with sword and shield out. That part drives me nuts!

On a positive note it opens up a feat.

If you all want I will post my build and then happily let you tear it apart for new ideas.

1 Inspiring blade-> 1 Arcanist-> 10 Ek

1 Fencing grace
3 Extra Arcane Exploit // shield Prof Madu
5 combat expertise
7 Extra Arcane Exploit // Arcane strike
9 Improved Critical
11 GWF// weapon specialization

Well I am currently in a society game, so I ave to figure out if the madu and traits are legal.

If they are I can use it in my game, where we have no shortage of martials. Couple switch hitter rangers, support cleric, a fighter, and a new PC idk.

I wanted to give us an arcane presence but wanted to go ek.

To this extend I wanted to keep spell casting for utility and battle field control. Using as little as possible for having to buff up. Especially since I don't have quicker or extend metamagics.

Arcanist have a limited spell selection, no doubt blurr and mirror image will be there. But yes this is a non magical way of maybe replacing armor sometimes.

Also These are all dodge bonuses so they help cmd and touch ac.

I think for a 1-12 game that I can easily focus on being Martial with spell back up. My save dcs aren't bad and with potent magic (exploit) and magic knack (trait). My spells will be competitive when I need them to be.

Background: Making an elven arcanist->inspired blade->Ek

I am using early entry via wizard school exploit diviner. I am a Dex build, using fencing grace, eventually piranha strike and arcane strike.

I hit a wall reguarding the best way to defend myself. Rearranging feats and gold to bring up saves and ac. I understand I am a spellcaster, but some defense is nice.

So I was looking at Combat Expertise which I know is normally a waste of space. My question is, combining it with the Madu shield and the threatening defender trait make it worth while?

Madu and trait lower To hit penalties by a total of 2 with comabt expertise, and the madu lowers the penalty for fighting defensively by 2.

So
-2 fighting defensively (reduced by madu)
+2 ac fighting defensively
+1 3 ranks acrobatics
+2 combat expertise no penalties
+1/-1 combat expertise after

So ur looking at -2/+5 then every 4 Bab above +4 (+8/+12/+16) a -1/+1 trade. And then we can add our shield bonus :)

Think it's worth it for 1-2 feat + trait expenditure?

I am a new player how do I get an extra trait boon? Would attending a con give me one?

Ok another stupid question i probably won't like the answer too:

Arcane Weapon Exploit: allows me to enchant my weapon increasing every x levels.

I assume it means arcanist levels so if I PRC out of arcanist it won't increase .... Correct?

Ok as stated above there are 3 threads aruging it. I see it as a big flaw to blade adept, unless when it turns into a black blade it stops acting as a Bonded item. So much so that I am co sidering dropping it in favor of a regular arcanist. Saves me 3 feats, which I can use to gain focused shot and early access into EK.
