Mei accepts the flowers from Nostariel with a shy silent smile. She takes up a watchful position in the center of the group, mud oozing between the toes of her bare feet.

"Do you know, I think I did, for a little while. My sister used to insist on doing my hair - I had pigtails, ringlets, braids and bangs - sometimes all in the same week!" Mei smiles briefly, and then her face is serene and serious once more. "Why did you decide to come goblin hunting? I don't remember you being so adventurous... of course that was long ago."

Mei rises early and, fortified by fragrant tea, finds an hour to practice her forms before heading to the marshes with her friends. She is dressed, as before, in a simple brown robe and pale overcloak. She carries no weapon.

"Asira, did you sleep well?"

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26; init: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20.

Mei's smile is wide and delighted as she is hugged, greeted, and made welcome. She does not say much for the rest of the evening, but falls in willingly with the plans to subdue the goblin threat.

"It will be good to test myself. Training is great and the masters say I am ready, but... I want to do something." Mei confides in Marduzi before they all depart for their rooms.

Meanwhile back at the bar Ameiko chokes off a quick laugh before regaining her composure and smiling politely at the young monk in front of her.

“You could say I’ve been around town for a while” she replies “My father was one of the founders of this town”.

"Oh," Mei flushes, "I didn't remember you. I'm so sorry. Still it's good to meet you, or meet you again after all this time!". Nostariel catches Mei's attention, and so she says her goodbyes to Ameiko. "Why don't you come join us when you've finished singing?

Mei joins Nostariel and the others. "Miss Lan!" she says with a strange formal little bow, "you remembered me! I wasn't sure... everything seems so different...". She notices that she is interrupting a conversation, something serious sounding.

"What's going on?"

Ameiko looks up at the question with an easy smile and pushing back her fringe before answering.

“Well, most of the songs are traditional works but I change up their compositions to suit myself” she says in her curiously accented common.

Mei smiles in return, "You are very talented. I thought I recognised the tunes from my childhood, but you put a new twist on them. Familiar but new - I liked it. I've been away from good music for too long. Wind chimes and sacred gongs don't feed the same heart-hunger."

After a moment's thought, "Have you been in Sandpoint for long?"

Mei watches a small group head out into the rain, and chooses not to join them. The only person she is sure she recognizes is Miss Lan, who looks just as she did when Mei left five years earlier. Miss Lan never aged, but would she remember little Mei? Friends, I suppose. Probably wouldn't want me tagging along anyway. Instead, she decides to talk to Ameiko, taking her chance in between two songs.

"That was beautiful. Did you write it, or is it a traditional song?"

Mei's enjoyment of the music is only signaled by the delicate tapping of one slender finger. She finally catches the eye of a servant, and wraps her hands round a glass of warm water with a dash of wine. She sips, slowly.

I wonder what that noise is? Looks like the pretty man is going to find out. Or maybe just heading home drunk...

She feels that she should mingle, dance, renew old friendships. But everyone looks different, older, and why would they remember her anyway? And besides isn't it nice just to sit here and listen to the music, after the long quiet of monastery life?

Halfway through Ameiko's song, before the hammering begins...

A slim cloaked figure enters the inn, shaking droplet of rain from her high hood. She pauses in the doorway, looking tentatively at the lively crowd, and seeming uncertain of her welcome. Her gaze moves from face to face, but in the end she shrugs slightly to herself and sidles round the edge of the bar area. She finds a seat near a wall and settles herself, nose wrinkled at the smell of stale ale and wet bodies. As she moves, the cloak parts slightly to reveal a monk's robe beneath.

Her body language is reserved and does not encourage company.

Doh - didn't think to look there. Thanks Jörmungandr, I'll jump right in!

I'll get the gear and HP updated ASAP.

Mei has been away training for the last few years, so I'd see her as like the old high-school friend who went away for college, and has just got back. Still friends, but not really close any more, and needing to rebuild those bonds.

Marduzi, on a meta-gaming note I'm keen to try out some teamwork feats as we progress. Never played with them yet, so let me know if you have any ideas.

Thanks Jörmungandr, great to be on board. I will finish up Mei's starting equipment later today.

I'm happy with those content ratings. I absolutely don't need to read amateur erotica here, and it could get massively derailing!

Chado, you could do worse than look at this thread for some tips on how PBP games usually work here.

Also, below the 'add new post' text-box is a button called 'how to format your post. It contains instructions for rolling dice, and also using bold, italics, and

EXPLOSIVE RUNES

Hi Jörmungandr. I'd like to play in your Jade Regent campaign. Presenting Mei Szilani, human monk. I'm happy with your ground rules.

Mei is a young monk who has just completed her first years of temple training and is, finally, allowed to travel and discover the world. Her family hails from Sandpoint, and as a young girl Mei was in and out of the Mvashti household. Koya was a second mother, and Niska a beloved grandma. Mai kept up a correspondence with Niska while away at the Temple, and a bundle of Niska's letters in a scented wooden box is one of her most cherished possessions.

Happy choosing NomadSage! I don't envy you, but I'm glad that you've got such a range of characters to choose from.

Mei sits in meditative calm, waiting for the new day.

Could be another one of those Kung Fu armies. If anyone shows up in a yellow jumpsuit though, I'm outta here! :)

Oh there's a thought <shudder>. I for one am not prepared to leave my dismembered limbs behind for some vengeance obsessed psychopath. I'll be one step behind on the running away front, at least until we both hit level 20. Then we kick Uma's butt!

Some nice characters coming out here. I think the closest proposal we have to an arcanist so far is Maeve, which will be interesting. Oh, or Bryan the magus, but no stats there yet. Couple of 3rd party classes that I've never seen in play before in the Time Thief and the Vanguard. Cleric, ranger, ninja and a pair of monks in the mix.

Heng - looks like Niska and Koya were building a secret monk army. They convinced Mei to head off to a Temple for training, adopted Heng... what were they up to? Dun dun dun!

And here are her stats. Still need to sort equipment, which will be minimal.
