Hello, So, i decided recently to write my own campaign setting and wanted to know : I love Paizo's universe and i wanted to include Lashuntas and Samsarans into my campaign.
The main reason i'm asking this on the forums, is because even when searching through the internet, i just got results which i absolutely don't understand about the legal thing. If you could answer with very basic words how it works it would be great :D ![]()
Yeah that's what i feel too about RPG like Pathfinder or D&D 5. This "monster tier" as i like to call it really bother me with its concept of : you are level 5 never think you are going against a balor it's way too high level to defeat it. Or i can't do a goblin theme campaign past level 3. That's why i loved d&d 5 with easy, fast and comprehensible rules to create a monster and make me feel i could create something. And with starfinder, i was delighted to see how they brilliantly handle that (even if my group is not into the pew pew lasers thing), it was even better than d&d 5e : i could create a level 20 goblins with relevant stats just on the fly with like 2 minutes for me to do it before murderhobos enter my hous kill it and take all his stuff. I know it's just a playtest but i think it would have been great if they released the rules to create monsters, i mean they did it for hazards and it seems it's exactly the same and it's so frustrating as i am the kind of GM who can't just come up with stats on the fly. Pathfinder was a great game but in terms of letting people create their own content, it can really be impossible like me who spend 3 hours to design a young green dragon for my campaign. Don't get me wrong, some just manage to do that but for less experienced people it is just daunting and poorly eplain. I got a lot of hope when the playtest was first announced and for the most part, i was very pleased. For the players, i think it's a great game : more character customisation, you don't have that much of bonuses coming from 42 effects, the 3 modes of play are well designed. But for the GM part i think (for now) it's more restrictive that it should be and really hard to come up with something good and balanced. ![]()
Okay maybe the title is more hyping than it really is x). So today i got bored and decided to read the "hazards" part of the bestiary. There i found out the table to design hazards.
And comparing to monsters of same level, it appears that it's almost the same thing. There are some variations of course but it might get from Monsters having HP and Hazards not but it's always in 1-2 range. Do you think Paizo did this on purpose or monsters might have totally differents stats ? And do you think you could build up monsters following Hazards rules until we get the full version ? ![]()
I think this could have been a great idea to have feedback of people who create their own adventures to see if the rules for creating monsters are good and balanced. I stopped playing pathfinder since i couldn't get the monster building rules. I'm not the kind of DM who just throw around stats and magically get a well done monster and balanced for the encounter i plan.

I tought about using PC creation rules and twist it a little but a lot of people are complaining that if you pit two PCs against each other, their AC are too high for the attack bonus they get and it would be just a flurry of misses. Yeah i tought there were be rules for monster creation just like in Starfinder. Really disapointed they didn't put it in the playtest :/ ![]()
Well, the question is in the title how do you give certain stats to a NPC and how do you determine its level ? I find it awkward that they did not put some guidelines in the book for NPCs. I really want to get the best out from this playtest and want to create my own adventures but as a newbie GM i just don't know how to handle the math behind it all. ![]()
Hello, So i'm planning on playing a Mythic adventure but i got a little confused with how to create NPC especially when it comes to calculate his/her CR. What i understand so far : You pick a monster whose CR is based on class level and not Hit Dice, you add the class features of your choices based on the role you want your NPC to fill, you add Mythic Ranks and all the features you want. Here i got stuck : based on the rules for NPC, the CR is calculated like this 'Class level of the NPC -1 (-2 if he got only NPC class levels)' and what i understood you should add half the Mythic Ranks to the CR but two questions come to my mind 1- How do you equip your NPC ? With gear equal to the sum of his CR + RM or just based on her CR 2- In Mythic Adventures, in the sample adventure "Fire over Blackcrag" the final boss 'Sorzan' is a fighter 2/guardian 4 so she should be CR 6 according to the math so why is she CR 12 ?? ![]()
Hello everyone, So i might be overthinking about it but as i reade for the fifth time the naval combat rules from Player's guide here is what i understood : 1- Everyone who wants to act in the ship to ship combat has to roll initiative.
First question : can you aim with a siege engines even if the ship is way farther than the range increment ? Let's imagine this scene :
I know maybe i'm just looking for problems where there is not but as the system is pretty well designed (even with all critics it got), i really want to use it as a sub system of a personal one and those questions matters a lot for my work. And if you can tell me how the attack bonus for siege engine is calculated that would be awesome. Thanks for any help ^^ ![]()
Hello everyone, so recently i just started a new campaign of starfinder with my group of friends. At the end of the first session i talked with my friends and they told me that they would enjoy an exploration campaign. So here is my problem : i don't know how to DM this sort of game with starfinder. I played many rpg based on exploration but never at the scale of the whole space. I already created a space sector with custom planets thanks to Stars without number system but i don't know how to handle the exploration part, how to make my players discover new places or even alien ruins not visited for millenias. I want you to know that the key concept i want to use is the discovery of new things, places just like you could do in Pathfinder. Anyone got some advice ? |
