On the way to the camp
"Bad and good are relative terms,
I always thought, but I was relatively evil by all measures. When I was young I blamed my blood for making me like I am and society for rejecting me... I did horrible things that have already cursed me to be here only to gain other's approval, but I was but a pawn for them... I felt lost and alone again... But then I found people that saw some light inside me. the tiefling seems lost in thought, memories flashing through his mind but not a dingle one staying long enough to truly remember "They helped me stand up everytime I fell. They were my only family..."
Mal says before whispering the last part with a smile "Until now."

At the camp
"She saved us." says Maldrek, standing proud and looking the Lord of Ash into the eyes "The journey there was uneventful, and finding the disturbance was easy... But the beast had mutated: it jumped into the light without dissolving, covered in darkness and filth."

"We barely managed to survive its first assault and Sila heroicly covered us, but fell in the process. Without her sacrifice all of us would have been dead" the tiefling adds, solemnly putting his hand over his heart and briefly closing his eyes.

"Instead of finishing us, the beast escaped into the caves by the hills, and we tracked it. We had to use the sunbomb but it is definitely dead. Sila's sacrifice wasn't in vain... She was a heroin and, even if briefly, I am proud to have fought beside her. We all are."

Maldrek witnessed as the events unfold, his weight rested against his blade stuck in the floor. He didn't act to help either side, but was ready to stop possible violence.
"At last some common sense."
The tiefling muttered smiling as the group reached the agreement to help Diana "The road to redemption is full of bumps, Leon, I must confess that I felt a little proud you decided not to axe your way through the first one. Even if Melfoil is right and we weren't saints before dying, I know I was quite the opposite, I am certain I did try to return to the Light before meeting my also certainly untimely death... Two more good willed acts like this one, Leon, and I'll believe you are too."

The tiefling grabs his sword and grips it with one hand, letting the long curved blade rest against his shoulder. With confident steps he joins the others for the trek outside and back to civilis... To the hellish version of civilisation that happened on this Limbo.
Mal puts a hand on Diana's shoulder as they walk "Forgiveness like you showed a moment before, that may save your soul. At the very least it has granted you my friendship, Diana. Welcome to the group."

And I fricking finally managed to push work aside and write a post. I'm terribly sorry I had an extra delay on top of the extra delays. Mal has another Unchained Rogue level now, complrte with more sneak attack and Unchained Unlocked Perception. ABP boosting his charisma certainky will help him, also.

Aaand I'm sorry for the delay. College has been kind of a b@~~$, but I have a short break now.

I would be willing to give you a cheesy one liner, but the way you described Mal finishing the deed was great and I don't want to ruin it. He will complain later, though, because the tiefling with sensible darksight eyes ended being the one detonating a sunbomb.

Maldrek nods at Mel's plan and raises his blade, which starts producing energy until it is covered by dancing jolts of electricity "Follow the sparks, I'll be behind them..."

The tiefling doesn't wait to see how the others fare, he is lesrning to trust their abilities, as his feet make him jump and dance through the cave towards the shadowbeast like a deadly circus' shadow show.

When he is a mere ten feet away from the abomination Mal leaps with the sword held high, a trail of sparks following him when he falls with a powerful slashing maneuver and rolls to the side to continue the assault with swift, brutal strikes.

Maldrek stares at the faint shimmers, then at the horrible beast, then back at the shimmering points... He is unsure on what to do.

I would need some perspective to decide. Like, how many move actions from where we stand to Targ and the Thing? Is any of the rocks on our way to the beast or we'll have to move out of our way? Once I know I'll post the action but I am leaning towards dashing to the Thing to free Targ, only bruefky stopping to free one of the shimmering items if it is on my direct way.

"Because that thing has evolved, I think, and is trying to escape the shadow border to prey where it couldn't before." says Maldrek from the shadows at the edge of Diana's light I said I'd be a couple steps before you, I don't want to die alone in the dark so only enough to be in darkness

Maldrek blinked in rapid sucession when Diana mentioned the possibility of saving Sila. He entertained the idea, this 'world' was a strange one after all, but he didn't have much hope and he rather not pump up Targ's.

When the strange woman conjured light on a stone the tiefling stepped back "Yeah, well, I understand you can't see in the dark... But as a matter of fact I see perfectly well so that source of light makes me easier to detect." the tiefling walks further until he is swallowed by the cave's darkness.

"Much better... I'll be a couple steps ahead, scouting, if I find anything I'll whistle to warn you. Copy'd?"

Mal waits for the rest to be prepared but not a moment after he sneaks firward with his eyes keen on the cave and his feet avoiding loose rocks.

Shit, and that's why you shouldn't post without your morning coffee first... or perhaps tiefling are strange and Mal has a manly hairy hand and a delicate, nail polished, feminine hand. Most probably the former.

I did not bring them, mostly because there's nothing that can stop Mal's sight other than solid walls or blindness.

Maldrek finally reacts when Targ begs their help. The tiefling cleans his blade as well as he can as he turns to the broken shell of a man in front of him.

"I've witnessed this story before. A great tragedy followed by a reckless act of bravery, only that it is not an act born from an heroic will but from vengeance." the tiefling says, walking slowly towards Targ "We will kill the beast because we must, it is our duty and even if it wasn't that thing is dangerous for whatever passes for life in this hellish Limbo. We may feel pleasure by doing it, only because of what that abomination has done... But if you want to die stupidly I offer you this blade. It will be quick and as painless as I can, I give you my word..."

Maldrek stops to search through his pockets until he finds the cleansing stone. With care the tiefling places it over his heart and closing his eyes commands it to wash over his spirit.

When he opens his eyes again, there is a shimner of determination and passion.

... Or you can choose to live another day and come with us to kill that beast. Carry on because even if Sila is here no more, her memory and her duty lives forever eternal within you. Keep her safe there by doing what she swore to do. Honour her sacrifice... Wounds heal and pain goes away, but your memories of her love will never fade away."

Diplomacy to pump up his spirit!: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17

Mal waits for Targ to make a choice, with his left hand extended wide open representing life and her right hand holding the blade, representing abandon.

And I am ready to go!

Not one to ever place heroicity over self-preservation, Maldrek quickly follows everyone on their run towards the gory wall, jping and rolling to get behind cover as fast as he can.

Once behind, the tiefling is about to rest his back against it before deigning it 'too dirty, unholy and disgusting' so he simpky kneels and waits "So... Clarice's going to be fine, isn't she? Please, I don't to lose more people now..."

Maldrek attempts to scream when the beast strikes him but the shock is so strong it kills his words before they are uttered.

Gritting his teeth the Tuefling sidesteps to flank the creature with Leon and quickly slashes the beast between its ribs.

Maldrek starts slowly clapping as a wide smile appears all over his devilish child "Very dramatic and theathric and other -ics, haven't seen such performance since... Well, I sort of remember having been to a theathre once... I remember fire and smoke though, interesting what this Purgatory does to your past crim- experiences, yes, experiences."

The tiefling walks up to Diana and gently takes her hand, bowing and giving it a soft, noble-like kiss on the back "I prefer hellboy rather than devilchild, but please call me Maldrek, or Mal if you feel close enough to us. As the self-designated moral compass... Strange because I usually lack moral... I welcome you to the group, specially when Clarice has grown awfully silent since the bath, God knows what did she wutnessed when Leon exited the tub! Hahahaha! Am I right, Clarice?" Mal jokes while turning towards the classy goblin...

That's the clue, shadowbeast, jump in!

... Right at the moment the abomination pounced on her little friend. "No! Damn you! Aaaaargh!" he screamed at the top of her lungs, a fair share of hope leaving him as the blood left Clarice's body.

His face returning to a joyful smile, he speaks loud enough this time, eyeing the Ataghans from time to time "That said, I am partial to not backstabbing any prospective allies. Less so when we are, as Leon lyrically explained, we would be thoroughly screwed without them. Plus they seem good people, and I always value nice moral compasses."

The tiefling winks at Targ with a playful smile before silently resuming the travel.

Maldrek nods as he makes his way out of the place "Thank you, we won't use the Sun Bomb for nothing. he says before whispering "I think... I hope."

Outside he examines the Cracked White Soulstone before putting it in one of his pockets. When the others come out he open his arms with a smile "That went just nice, am I right? We know better about the beasts, we got a job and the Ashen seem like they might help us."

"We should probably do as the Lord of Ash said and ask Tarj about the Wavering Edges, I'd rather not die stupidly."

Maldrek remains silent as usual as the events unfold, visibly smiling as the one named Sila puts the others in their place.

The tiefling listens intently at the council's report, mentally noting down some questions to ask when they finish speaking.... and then the Lord interrupted them with a job offer.

But before he is able to speak, Leon puts another feet inside his mouth and speaks. If Maldrek wasn't used to being in peril and ashamed, he would be sweating buckets right now.

"Well, Leon, for starters I've never heard flame bull and innocent in the same sentence before. Yelling, on the other hand, sure is strange but not every chain of command is as rigid as the others. And most importantly, we are with the Atagahn both because we are new and completely oblivious to the reality we are in and because they seem to care about the bad stuff happening." he says in an almost Melfoil like voice.

"Like the shadowbeasts roaming wildly. I can't speak for the rest, because we are as ordered and single-minded as you, Council and Lord of Ash, are... but I intend to help. I would need some more information as I must confess I'm not as great a warrior as Leon is or Lady Sila seems to be."

"If the shadowbeasts are the creatures that accosted us on our way to the city, they are dangerous. That isn't a problem by itself, if we can learn easier, quickier and probably funnier ways to kill them. That's where you can help us, I'm sure. As we are newcomers we would also need to know everything we can about the Wavering Edge, something tell me the name isn't fortuitous. If we can help falling into enviromental death-traps or the hands of hostile inhabitants, all the better. And last but not least, anything capable of scaring whole herds of shadowbeasts sure isn't a simple target... for that I would be so bold as to ask for means of healing ourselves, all geared to beat his ass back to Hell... double Hell? Underhell? Whatever this plane's version of Hell is called."

Having finished talking bussiness, Maldrek returns to his usually silent being. "Pretty please?"

I was going to roll Diplomacy, but then I realised I used partial truths, plain lies and a couple bluffs to get some gear out of this. So unless the GM corrects me, bluff to make them believe it's in their interest

Maldrek turned after his attack and dodge. He knew quickness and fast strikes were prime against such a mighty beast.

But then Leon happened and Maldrek let his sword escape his hand, clinking as it hit the ground.
"Holy f++*ing shit." he said, yet his inner thoughts were a tad different

Maldrek remaind eerily silent during the journey. He couldn't remember the last time he met one of his kind, least one that truthfully wanted to aid him.

As the humongous tiefling speaks, Maldrek smiles "I would have perished years ago, cold and hungry, if I didn't have an use. What I yearn for is purpose. Purpose and freedom to choose." he saydñs, mostly to himself, and awaits the huge tiefling's answer... yet he didn't expect the trial to happen so soon.

Not one to react poorly to the unexpected, Maldrek quickly dashes as he draws his blade, and crouching as he slashes upwards, he tries to behead the bull.

"Thank you, Braz'Myr, I am in debt with you you for your kindness and help..." says the tiwfling, bowing slightly "The language you used, it had a familiar ring... yet it wasn't like anything I had ever heard. I reckon I am intrigued, also because I didn't expect to find bloodkin here. Well, whatever here means."

Maldrek excuses himself briefly and walks quickly to the others "They will help us." he says with a smile before his face turns more serious and the tiefling lowers hia voice to almost a whisper "I am inclined to trust them, gut feeling, but we can't forget that this place hasn't treat us well and we must be very cautious." he turns to Mel "Grafting demonic fingers to your hand with improvised surgery isn't cautious, for example. Keeping an eye to our surroundings and company is. I'll tell them we are ready."

Having said his part Maldrek returns to the tieflings "Please lead the way, Braz'Myr."

The tiefling can't help but grin as he enters the main room in the middle of the frogwoman diatribe. Making his way to Leon and Merfoil he stops on his feet as the elf starts his sudden attpt at surgery and his acrobatic headbutt to the bar.

"Make it three drinks, and add some bacon and eggs if at all possible, milady." he says with a wink and a charming smile as he sits and claps the brobarian in the back.

"Been busy since you woke up, Leon? I know this place is confuwing, but you won't find answers in a glass' bottom... not that I won't try too." the tiefling scans the room Assuming I see the same groups> Maldrek raises an eyebrow as he studies the Ruined Crown one. "Interesting... might as well meet my kin and try to get some intel... they seem tough but nice."

The tiefling claps Leon's back once again "Wish mr luck." he says as he makes his way to the group and takes a seat, close yet separated from them until invited.
"Long days and pleasant nights." he says "My name's Maldrek Delisar... and to be honest me and my friends have just arrived. Mind to help a newcomer understand the ways of this land?"

"HAHAHAHAHAHA!" bursted the tiefling at Clarice's comment "You are killing me Clarice... but take care least we find out he is any kind of crusader or paladin with Chastity Votes."

"Why would anybody do that to themeselves is beyond me..." he wonders.

As soon as the group entenred Maddy's place, Maldrek was enraptured. The ambient, the mutated patrons, the smells... it was almost home.

Hell, the full-plated guy silently screaming 'knight in shining armor' could be count among the things he used to be used to.

With a huge childish smile the tiefling was about to approach the 'knight' when Maddy caught them. He kept his smile and nodded as only a fool or a kid can, following the witch through the passages until they reached the baths.

"Oi Leon, don't try to disguise any peeking as alertness or guard duty, it's okay to be curious but trust me... I'm almost human down the waist." joked the tiefling as he whispered something in Infernal. Darkness covered his bathtub and him as he took his clothes and entered the warm water, the act revealed only by the sounds he made. A moment later he dispelled it. "Did any of you see Mister Golden Lance? He seemed too... mundane... another newcomer perhaps? I'm considering chatting him up after dinner, see what he knows and who the hell he is."

Maldrek repeats the bureaucrat guardsman's mantra out loud "Mad Maddy's, Mad Maddy's, Mad Maddy's!" to test something going on his mind.

After a couple seconds waiting for anything to happen he says "Mad Maddy's won't come to pick us up, so let's find her and the booze."

And so the tiefling starts walking.

When you say he is gone, you mean he walks away or he goes 'puff' and disappears?

Maybe it's because I'm not a native speaker but I didn't know what you meant.

With all the ruckus about Paizo erasing updates I lost my dot and it's been a hell of a surprise -pun not intended- finding out there's 10 posts!

Maldrek stumbles inside the doors, falling to his knees as he covers his eyes "What the hell... WARN US BEFORE YOU THROW DAMNED SUNLIGHT THINGIES IN FRONT OF THOSE WHO SEE PERFECTLY IN THE DARK, FOR F~$#'S SAKE!"

Blinking multiple times as he tries to focus his gaze, the tiefling discovers the unknown female saviour has disappeared "I mean... C'mon, that could have blind me..." he adds, trying to recover a modicum of dignity after his rant.

Standing up, Maldrek offers Leon his hand for a handshake "Well, you did a hell of a job too, human... Even if I'm not sure you are completely human after your display against the Warden."

Observing the surroundings, Maldrek cleans his clothes off dirt (?) and shadowbeast's goo before smiling "First thing shoul be obvious, my burly raging friend... I want the biggest drink this city has to offer."

To put it bluntly I have been kicked out of home by my parents and as such it hasn't been the best of times to come up with a tasty post.

Luckily I'm headed toward my sister's so in a couple hours I'll have a respite to clear my mind and write it.

Maldrek drops his sword out of pure amazement at Clarice's display of adamantium ovaries. Clapping like his local bloodbowl team just won the championship, the tiefling grasps his blade slightly with his tail and walks to Clarice "I fancy myself a top notch swordsman, but that... that was awesome, Clarice."

As he starts cleaning the blood off his sword with a hankerchief, the tiefling eyes the souls. Raising an eyebrow, he extends his hand towards one "Now this is starting to become interesting..."

"Hoooly fuuuuuu-" was Maldrek's opinion regardinf the Warden attack. As the tiefling tumbled under the axe, he gripped his blade tightly in front of him, finishing the evading maneuver with the intention of finally managing to kill the worm.

What a surprise was finding twice the amount of ugly things with half the mass. The tiefling's sword flew towards the lwft one, firmly believing that this was a strange day.

As he dodges the worms attack and smells the acid fill the floor around him, Maldrek spins and slashes, aiming at beheading the worm thing.

"You are next, Warden! You'll pay for imprisoning us!"

"Counteroffer, Mister Anger Issues: screw you!" yells Maldrek as he moves to engage the closest worm thingy, his sword held high and slashing furiously.

"I will trust your anatomical expertise then, Merfoil. But I think Leon and I should go first. If there is anything aiming to kill us on the other side, the huge guy and the agile swordsman might as well be dealing with it, or are we afraid of unknown bodily portals?." says Maldrek, aiming the last question towards Leon complete with brow raising and playful smile.

"As they say in Kovir: The last one is a chicken!" and he draws his sword and jumps inside a, portal.

Please don't be full of stomach acid

With a childish smile, the tiefling answers "We have learned that this is... Purgatory, I think. But how do we escape this prison? And how do we return home? If anything, at least tell us what direction should be headed to try our chance at escaping."

As his butt touched the ground, Maldrek snapped back to reality, his eyes still closed "Ah, it was just a dream... he muttered as he felt the weight of his sword and backpack ln his lap. He continued as he opened his eyes "A horrible, confusing dr-CRAP!" the image of the myriad handnimals popping his happy bubble.

"I miss the cell, fellas. It was gory and disgusting, but I could comprehend it." the tiefling started donning his armor, placing his scabbard and adjusting the backpack "Wait." Maldrek exclaims, turning to the rabbit "You never forget a face, you said. So you know things we have forgotten. Could you help us? I'd rather not go past the hundred manworms again."

"Please? Pretty please?"

Maldrek contenplated the idea of devouring the worm's flesh. Something inside him moved him to it...but no.
"I've spent my whole life trying to find who I am. I won't debase myself just because this Purgatory tries to tempt me. Screw you, Purgatory! Screw you!"

Update didn't show up on my campaign tab... I was waiting on you XD I will check regularly from now on, just in case the problem arises again.

Maldrek isn't quite sure what to do as he lacks his weapon. Finally, the tiefling decides to try and grab the jawbone before proceeding with an attempt to shank the thing.

Jawbone attack: 1d20 + 8 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 8 - 4 = 14
If I can flank, that's nice because sneak attack.
Damage: 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3
Sneak Attack: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5
If the attack hits and sneak attack applies, I choose Disoriented for the Debilitating Injury: -2 to Ac, -4 against the rogue

"This situation is many levels more sureal than I am used to, guys."

Maldrek turns to Melfoil as the elf throws the jawbone "Wait! Don't-... did you just f#%!ing throw our only weapon? AAAAARG!"

The tiefling cries with a mix of disbelief, grief and anger. He cries for a loooong second before snapping his fingers and a second after the are surrounding him turns pitch black.

Maldrek, who's been submerged in silent contemplation of the gore and horrors of the place they were jailed in, raises an eyebrow as the woman starts to scream prophanities and speak "Well, I am no expert on human anatomy as our elf is... but I am pretty sure humans aren't supposed to work after you break them." the tiefling says as he prods the figure with a long finger "No matter how well you return their innards to them."

Maldrek stops prodding, filled with both disgust and curiosity "Now, Schmelga, isn't it? We indeed would appreciate having our belongings returned, but I find more pressing knowing 'where' we are. You can't escape if you have no clue where you are escaping from. And we helped you, so you owe us at least that much..."

The tiefling adds the last part with a sly smile.

Maldrek laughs at the man's action as he turns his attention to Leon again and bows his head "You are right, I will speak openly." he says as he stands up again and leans closer to the man, continuing in a hussed whisper "But I do think goblins, as my kin, tend to distrust strangers on the grounds of usually being met with drawn weapons and torches. If I speak to her in her tongue it's only so she isn't as jumpy as she seems when you speak." his tone being that of a weary individual who knows not everyone understands his struggle.
An idea crosses his mind as he says out loud the last words, and Maldrek couchs to catch everyone's attention. "Don't freak out, I am trying something." he explains before he rises his voice.

Maldrek rises his head to look at Leon in the eye, a sardonic smile on his face "Easy there, big guy. First thing, I descend from devils, not demons. That is a offense I am willing to pass because you can't trust humans to differentiate between their toes and fingers but it would be akin to suggest your ancestors were ugly, chaotic prone monkeys."

The tiefling stands up to be on equal ground with the human. While lithe, Maldrek is tall and fit. "Next thing on the list: My name is Maldrek, and I don't know "where" is here or why I am in this place, but I agree that if this is some hellish cell, they like to torture and confuse their prisoners minds...
but sending a tiefling? That would be pretty obvious. A human who poses as a confused prisoner? That's their style." the smile on his face widens.

"I am obviously joking. But it seems thatwe are all in this together, so suspicions aside did you figure anything out before I woke up?"

Maldrek starts walking through the room, inspecting the walls as he makes his way towards the goblin. Once he is only a step or two from her, the tiefling crouches and remains squatting, analyzing the goblin's face and demeanour before speaking "I don't think you are a hellish trick. Pleased to meet you, Clarice. You seem more level-headed than Huge McHugeson there or the silent elf there."
