Sarona's inspection of the repair drone shows it workings are a combination of mechanical and electronic. The drone is dusty, and some pieces within have rusted, while wires here and there have lost their shielding. The drone is powered through a battery unit, which Sarona previously knew to be inert. Otherwise, the drone does not appear to have been tampered with and its malfunctioning could be attributed to its state of disrepair.
Shaken, Val responds to the questions, I'm fine, like I said the thing ignored me. It just started moving on its own accord, I hadn't touched it during my cleaning. Thanks for your concern, and yes it is nice to see you again as well Veronica. It's good to know Sarona will attempt this foolishness with a fellow townswoman. Val and Sarona show the group the tavern. After the group is settled Val busies herself behind the bar where she quietly asks to herself, "That looked like an acid splash on the wall, which one of them caused that? After a moment, she returns her attention to the group, "Sarona, Veronica will you be staying here or in your own homes? To clarify, Val isn't aware she said that comment about the acid splash out loud.
Sarona: The biggest takeaway here is that you knew the robot's power supply was depleted, leaving the standing question for Sarona as: How did the power supply recharge itself?
Val Baine, a young Kellid of small stature with blond hair, blue eyes, in dressed in no-nonsense matter fitting of tavern operator/metalworker, emerges from her hiding spot under a table in the storeroom. She's a little dusty for ordeal but otherwise unharmed. She greets Sarona with a thankful hug, grateful for the timely intervention. The young Kellid speaks in a energetic manner, "Welcome home, Sister! I was cleaning the study when that thing just started moving on its own. Fortunately it ignored me, it seemed more interested in escaping. Anyways, I take it you've talked to the Council and are going to try to find father? Well, the tavern is available for ya'll's use. There are some bedrolls inside already, and I'm more than happy to provide meals. Any drinks will still require payment though." Unless the group wants to RP it, I'm assuming basic introductions are made.
Know: Eng Result (DC 13):
The creature looks like a Clockwork Servant in form, though is missing gears and its wind-up key. The machine instead shows some exposed wires and in places sparks.
Key Points: Construct Traits (Modified), Able to self-repair, Vulnerable to Electricity. Ozak delivers a glancing blow, drawing the repair drone's attention to himself. The machine's optic stares at him for a second before the creature states... Androffan:
Creature type: Unknown. Behaviour: Hostile. Initiate Self-Defense Protocols. The creature shoots a net from the small cannon looking protrusion on its shoulder at Ozak. Ranged Net vs Ozak Touch AC: 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 6 - 4 = 4=Miss. Ozak you get an AOO against the creature. (Ranged weapon in melee)
Sarona's mad dash has her just inside the study. The group follows in her wake. Entering the study, in the northeast corner she sees the mechanical oddity brought back Khonnir banging upon the wall. It is 5 feet tall and made of a gray and white metal-like polymer with three spiderlike legs that would allow it to navigate over rubble and difficult train with ease. The machine's torso, arms, and head are faintly humanoid with a singular "eye" blazing in the center of its head. A second of study shows that Val is not in this room, and it appears as though the machine is trying to brake through the wall, ignoring Sarona's entrance entirely. For this I'm assuming characters are following Sarona's lead. If they paused to prep something let me know. Sarona, Ironface ond Ozak have line of sight.
Sarona leads you through town to her home, the Foundry Tavern. Well, technically she lives in home behind it... But, anyways, as the group travels along it is clear word has spread already about them. The townsfolk stop to thank them, wishing them success on their rescue mission. The Foundry consists of three buildings, to the southeast the Workshop, directly west of that lies the Foundry Tavern (typically ran by Val, but currently closed) and to the north Khonnir's home. The tavern has a deck running along the south wall, wrapping around the western side. Outside Khonnir's home is a large tree with a makeshift pavilion pitched beside/under it. As Sarona guides the party between the tavern and workshop you hear a loud screech coming from the house. "Aaaiieee...." Sarona quickly identifies that voice as her sister Val, while you also hear a thump... thump... thump coming from the house. Perception if you want to identify where in the house the thumping is coming from.

No problem, I was cooking dinner earlier. So it was a rushed post.
At the Temple of Brigh Councilor Joram and Councilor Bazlundi are continuing their discussion on how to dispose of Torch's waste. Seeing the group enter the Temple, Councilor Joram greets them, Sarona, Veronice, who are your companions? Once the group introduces themselves and explains they have accepted the job posting, Councilor Joram informs them, Aye, those caves are under Weeping Pond. The entrance is flooded, but I can bless you with water breathing to help you gain entrance. For your group, the blessing should last roughly four to five hours. Let me known when your ready to enter the caves. Notes: For events passed it would now be just afternoon.
Doga smiles at Ozak, "No worries, I wish I could go myself. I'm sorry, but with everything happening my mind is more scattered then it should be. You don't know what it means to this old dwarf to know you are willing to help. Khonnir took the same people with him for the second excursion, so their's none here in town. In his report from the first excursion he mentioned encountering over-sized vermin, a nest of gremlins, and some kind of humanoid creatures that could blend into the cave's shadows. He also reported a wall of glaucite, similar as the kind we mine in the hills here, but with doors inlaid within it. Khonnir stated that there were two doors, one locked tight while the other could be opened. His second excursion was to see what laid beyond that door. He brought back some kind of automation that he found beside the door, but it was damaged and knowing Khonnir is sitting in his study waiting to become one of his many projects. Councilor Jormam is with Councilor Bazlundi at the Temple of Brigh currently working on our waste disposal issue. Khonnir's daughters have offered the use of the Foundry Tavern to anyone who undertakes the finding of their father. Miss. Sarona here will guide you to the tavern. Sarona roll Knowledge: Engineering
The group was explicitly asking about the source of the torch, more so than than the usual passing curiosity. Of the four groups, none have returned other than Khonnir's first excursion. The source of our torch being extinguished may very well be elsewhere, but given the timing of its extinguishing and the location of these new Black Hill Caves, which are under Weeping Pond, this seems the only route of investigation for now.
Dolga sighs, visibly relieved that the group is eager to enter the Caves. In response to Ozak's question Dolga says, A few days before the torch went out there was a group led by a purple haired lady, her name escapes me. A couple days after they left town the torch went out, and it was the next day Khonnir found a number of human tracks leading into Weeping Pond. After investigating those tracks Khonnir found a cavern system under the pond." Here Dolga pauses in thought for a moment before continuing. You should speak to Joram Kyte, he may be able to help you access the caves with one of his spells. Now, I do believe I misspoke, there’s been four, not three teams to enter the caves. The first team was a group of halfling adventurers, the second a group of local thugs, and the fourth a small adventuring party devoted to the worship of Brigh from out of town. Khonnir’s team undertook the third and fifth expeditions under Black Hill, and it was on the fifth expedition—his second trip—that he went missing.”
After a short wait, the young human tells the oddly-assembled group that the Council is ready. The group enters the office to see an old dwarven woman surrounded by more paper stacks than any one person should have. In a corner behind the desk sits a well maintained warhammer and an armor stand that holds a set of half-plate with the town's emblem. "Saraona, Veronica! I hear you two are interested in helping our town. Tis' a sad state when we rely on our young ones to solve Torch's dilemma," Dolga greets the two ladies before turning to the other three. Once introductions are complete Dolga is straight to business, in typical utilitarian dwarf fashion. The crux of the problem is the extinguished torch. Its been eight days since it went out, and already there have been three groups that have tried to help. Each has failed to return. It was Khonnir who found the tracks leading into the Black Hill Caves, I do hope he finds his way back soon. Same as you Sarona, I'm sorry that this event has caused you worry and grief. Now, as the posting says we will pay 4,000 gp to the group that returns Khonnir to us. We have a Scroll of Resurrection in the event the truly tragic has happened, but if Khonnir is alive the scrolls is yours as well. It's unlikely you'll relit the torch in the process, but there's an additional reward of 4,000gp if you can do so. The Technic League is due soon to collect their monthly taxes, which we can pay for now. But, without the torch our income is drastically reduced and next month won't see us so fortunate. Do you have any other questions for me?"
The residents of Torch show dismay in both their words and actions. As one stands on a street corner and listens it is clear that the extinguished torch is the only subject of import. Those freshly arriving in town to answer the job posting regarding the extinguished torch are directed to the Town Hall. As they arrive at the Town Hall they see a small group waiting in the entry foyer, they too seek to help Torch in its time of crisis. The group is greeted by the receptionist, a young human lass, who informs them that, "Thank you so much for you offer to assist! Councilman Bazlundi Otterbie is out with Joram Kyte trying to find a way to address the town's growing waste problem. Councilman Soceal Murgrave is at home nursing a headache, his third in as many days. I hope he isn't growing ill! So Councilwoman Dolga Freddert will be out shortly to tell you all you need to know." As an afterthought the young human says, "Councilman Khonnir Baine has yet to return from his expedition in to the Black Hill Caves. I do hope he and his group find their way back soon..." It is clear by the way her bubbly voice lowers that she holds little hope of this outcome This is a chance for the party to officially introduce themselves to each other, and if they somehow know one another to establish a general link. @Ironface:
2)For your Melee attacks your sheet shows a +2 to hit, but I'm showing you should have a +3 to hit. (BAB 0 + DEX 3) 3)Their are items double listed on your sheet, such as inkpen (2). For now I've added items as your sheet is written, which puts you in medium encumbrance. If these doubles are not right, then you would be at a light load. 4)With the double items, you have 14gp, 2sp, 7cp. Your sheet shows 6 gp, 4 sp, 7 cp. @Others: I'll try to have everyone through a final scrub tonight. Once that is done I'll get the gameplay thread open and running. A map of torch is accessible via the Roll20 link uptop.
There were many good characters, for a bit I debated on making it a 7 person group just so I didn't have to make so many "no" choices. Overall there were 18 characters in the end, so being not selected wasn't necessarily about lack of backstory or character build. If for some reason a player isn't able to continue, I'll use the selections here (via PM) to fill the slot.
Final Selection: Veronica Anne Miller - Half-Elf Fighter/Gunslinger - Stargazer
Thanks to everyone who show interested. Good luck in your future games!
Here's some points to hash out before we start. I'll leave these open to group preference: HP: Average +1 or Rolled in Play

Encounters: All creatures will have the Advanced template, this will not factor in to EXP. Any other templates added will factor normally. This AP is written for up to 15th level characters, please keep this in mind for planning character progression.
Welcome! This will be the are to post questions, comments, and intra-player talk out of game. Characters can be tweaked up until the actual play starts, so if you have any last minute purchases or want to change some details, feel free. Character classes and archetypes are not changeable at this time. This is my first time DMing a PbP, so if you have any suggestions on how to help the campaign run smoothly I'm all ears. Please post as soon as able.
Yes, I have Dragoncat. Tried to post this morning, but Paizo was down at the time. First 3 slots Veronica Anne Miller - Half-Elf Fighter/Gunslinger - Stargazer
As I have left time for those who dotted interest to submit chars/backstories the final 2 slots will be filled Thursday. I have the discussion thread up for players.
Veilwar silently grimaces as Szo Cuta begins to rant, "Tell that uppity fox it is Szo Cuta. If I wanted a shorter name I would change it. Secondly why would any family of mine want to be a tool of that uptight stag!?..." Turning to Alice he says in a pained voice, "She says it is possible. And why do you continue to torture me so?" Veilwar finishes with a half-grin, knowing his protest will fall on deaf ears again. Veilwar Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
Szo Cuta is referencing Erastil.
@Uret: Ok, I see the archtype now, and applied it. Ceaseless observation doesn't come into effect until Level 2. / Language added. / I'm not seeing which skill point you removed. (Still updating sheet?) @Dragoncat: Applied Empathy. / Sense motive now shows @ 7. @Seth86: You don't need to complete spells. I've noted any errors just to be thorough. @Sundakan: Brawler is fine. Hopefully those free feats help take some of the burden off a TWF focus. @Cuan: Changes made. @Baja1000: Your call on the medallion, I was counting it as part of your starting outfit.
@All: I have gotten all 17 character sheets inputted and validated. Please see the linked Google Doc below for notes. You can either leave a comment in the doc, or post here in the forums. If you posted an interest, but have yet to submit a sheet it needs to be submitted by Monday, March 28th. Character backgrounds will be due by Tuesday, March 29th. I'm going to reread character backgrounds, and fill 2-3 slots off of current submissions.

@Cuan: The feat allows it to substitute for Familiar Bond, which you need to take before Improved Familiar Bond. If you meant can it count as Iron Will if you have Familiar Bond, then yes. @Thrawn: Don't worry about the lack of Hero Lab, that in no way effects character selection. I just like it because there are way too many rules in PF for me to ever memorize them all. And ya'll have thrown me some good curve balls. @Revernd Rob: I've removed the celestial note. Didn't see that one sentence hiding when I read Warpriest. @All: Since some have done it, and its not a bad idea: Add one Regional language as a bonus. If your from Torch, the language is Hallit.
