Sorry for the delay. Work has decided to work us to death before they have to lay us off.

Okay, so there's talk about raising someone, and a plan to get help, aaaaaaaand that's it. How would you like to implement that? Eldiocesan is one of those 'wandering wizards', though he seems to be friends with your friend, Tamris.

The Lord Mayor of Restov, Ioseph Sellenius, grateful for your heroism informs the party that he will be sending craftsmen and laborers as well building equipment down to "'Avalon' was it?" in the coming weeks, specifically to old Oleg's Outpost. He makes a note of the kingdom's name on his copy of the regional map in the space between 'Fort Drelev' and 'Varnhold'.

He's still shaking grain out of his lordly coat having been teleported into a locked storage silo and only being found and released this morning.

"I doubt our attacker will bother you with so many people around. It seems like this had been a game at least a month or two in the making. Though I confess I would like to find our Shepherd Keegh, and that hideous steward, Igor, who was here serving our deceased host. He had an ill-favored look about him. I will miss Lord Iannuchi. There will be much disruption among the duelists in the Restov now that Ser Richard is gone."

No worries.

Durgan will chat with Max and Ser Ernest Daye to see what they envision for their plot of land (figuring that others are talking to some of our other prospective investors). What terms do they want? And, at least for Max, what sort of person is he? Why does he want this parcel of land?

Give me a sense motive check for each here in the Gameplay thread.

Durgan would like to establish some basic trade agreement with Mistbreather and the Glimmerhold dwarves.

Mistbreather is interested in forging an agreement to place a lumber mill, and some off-(Glimmerhold mountain)-site crafting halls in and around the Narlmarches adjacent to some of the waterways. In exchange for cheap lumber and price discounts on craft goods (armor, weapons, wooden planks, farm implements, horse shoes, nails, etc...). They are also willing to deal with any lingering kobold issues, particularly if you give them rights to the Sootscales' silver mine lair.

And, he wants to talk briefly to Lord Mayor Sellenius about some trade agreements with Restov (lower tolls for Restov merchants, for example). Durgan would like Avalon to follow Restov's lead in relations with the Dragonscale Throne, though I think it important for others to weigh in on that.

There's already a push to get laborers and settlers to move into the newly cleared lands, and Brevoy will be financing much of the first year at least of growth through out all of its various Stolen Land acquisitions. "After all," says the Mayor gesturing grandly about the space, "What would be the point otherwise?"

In other words, the Mayor is saying, trade will be something to discuss once Avalon has an infrastructure. Until consider yourselves sucking off of his (and the Throne's) teat.

He also wants to try to figure out what Maegar Varn is offering the others, and what his game seems to be. Same as us, just looking to grow his realm?

One more sense motive check. And that's about all the time Durgan has for the night.

"Gentlemen, please!" says the Mayor rising to his feet.

Perception checks DC 25:
Among the various copies of maps and exploration notes and folios (many of them originally made by the party--copied here by scriveners) there is a book on the table that looks out of place. It must have been uncovered in all the current hubbub from beneath the other papers. It's a broad, hardcover book with only a few pages to it by the thickness of the binding. The embossed title on the cover reads Zuddinger's Picnic and it sports an image of a single black crow looking back at the viewer. The uncanny artwork's black alien eyes seem to follow you.

"Ahem!" interjects the Lord Mayor of Restov garnering the attention of the assembly.

"And who may I ask are you?" he says to the new arrivals.

Imeckus makes a short bow and makes introductions. He then goes on to explain that he and his younger sister learned of the gathering from Zokon and his party on their recent visit to the north. His sister has an interest in helping to finance any expansion within the newly carved out realms and has come to offer her aid to the endeavor in exchange for a parcel of land.

And here we come to the more 'gamy' bits of the campaign. There are several people collected around the table who have money that they are willing to part with in exchange for a bit of land--2 12 mile (~19.3 km) diameter hexes worth, in exchange for an upfront investment, and future taxes to the charter holders of said land (Charter holders include: the party, Hannis Drelev and company, Lord Maegar Varn, and the as yet unmet explorers of the far western Stolen Land).

The current set of investors include: Sandralane of Rahadoum, the wizard Alak Dool, Longtooth of Varisia, the veteran Ser Earnest Day, the Ulfen Rutgar Dag, Max the First of his Name, the far-traveling Allisa Patrcian, and now The Stroons. Each of these people is looking to set up roots in a frontier region for reasons of their own. If the party wants "renters" in their land this would be them, note that your charter neighbors also might want them as well, and can offer incentives, as can you (first choice of hexes, access to resources, offers of matrimony, lowered tax burdens, etc...).

The Other Investors... Other people also have an interest in property. You will note that the heads of four big northern churches are in attendance (Abadar, Earstil, Gorum, and Pharasma), in addition to Ser Daye (paladin of Iomedae) and Sandralane (cleric of Sarenrae) who each have their own ideas about religion. Each of these people would very much like the various charter holders to make their church the official state religion of the place they settle in with a big temple and so on. The four church heads in particular can offer you incentives (both monetary and otherwise). Note: Even though you haven't told anyone of it yet (even Shepherd Jhod Kavken), the party did discover an ancient Erastilian temple complex and purged it of evil.

Likewise the two trade representatives Mistbreather, and Kozen can offer economic opportunities in exchange for your charter's support.

Finally there are some political concerns. Samuel Renault has made it clear that he wants to stay independent from your rule. Since he has family among the great houses up north and the command of most or all of the farmers in your lands this could be a problem. The Mayor of Restov and Ser Richard Iannuchi are independent-minded Rostlanders (Rostland being the bountiful southern half of Brevoy before it was made Brevoy a century ago), while Lord Solvis Orlovsky seems to be in favor of a unified Brevoy under the King-Regent of the Dragonscale Throne.

So yeah, lots of stuff to consider. Feel free to discuss it in the Discussion thread.

The meal and discussions roll on into the cool evening, at which point everyone but Delev and his men return to their quarters and take to bed. Delev and company indulge in the seemingly unending amounts of high quality liquor.

If folks need to we can backtrack.

The party awakens to the noise of workers' hammers as the mansion's construction continues.

That day sees the mid-morning arrival of the Lord Mayor of Restov, Ioseph Sellenius, and servants from town. He's a huge barrel of a man the party members can imagine taking up one whole side of his regal-looking carriage.

As usual the PCs can make one roll and open all of the following that apply.

Knowledge (local or nobility) DC 12:
The Lord Mayor of Restov is one of the most powerful and influential men in Brevoy--indeed of the whole north, as he is the lord of one of the north's largest cities.

Knowledge (local or nobility) DC 17:
He is a well-known proponent of Rostland values and the 'independent nature of its free-willed people to the point that some in the capital city of New Stetven fear his growing political power.

Knowledge (local or nobility) DC 25:
It is an open secret in some quarters that the Lord Mayor is indeed setting the stage for the secession of his city and the former independent nation Rostland as a whole from Brevoy.
