I'm guessing you are Greek? Most people who learn Ancient Greek outside of Greece learn a hypothetical (and probably really inaccurate for any age) system of pronunciation that is far from the modern pronunciation. So according to this academic pronunuciation, it would indeed be pie-zoh or pie-dzoh, instead of the modern peh-zoh.

Partially ... never did ancient greek (Latin was my forte when I was a kid)so I wouldn't know about pronunciation of the old dialect/spelling. But from an academic point of view as you say it may be the correct way. I've used the modern greek pronunciation as you rightly point out.

I believe it's actually "Pay-zo", but hey, you've got to love the wacky English language with all its multiple pronunciations, dialects and linguistc variations.

General Paizo Questions

What does "Paizo" mean?
Paizo cofounder Johnny Wilson suggested the name, which comes from a biblical Greek word meaning "to play." (The original Greek word is "paiðzw.")

How do you pronounce "Paizo?"?
We pronounce it to rhyme with "pie dough."

Well the suggested pronounciations are way off, should be pronounced

"peh- zoh".

Same infuriating thing when I hear war gamers (DBA/DBM players)pronouncing psiloi as "psi-loy" when the "oi" should be an "e".

Wish I had enough money to buy dungeon tiles or whatever they're called...

Those were Dwarven Forge's Master Maze product line. That stuff is cool.

I'm still not convinced about the DDI as well - mainly due to the fact I'm going down the 3.X route. A good chunk of the stuff will be of no use to me.

Just thought I'd post this on the board for those interested in the DDI

Hey check this out

This is an awesome Vrock - more realistic than the two DDM ones. I'm waiting with great anticipation to see their first Hezrou green.

I just stumbled tonight across this website. This looks very interesting for those who may like the classic feel of DnD.

Comments anyone?

Mearls is correct. A revived Greyhawk is problematic. Too problematic in all likelihood.

I have to disagree that a revived Greyhawk is too problematic. IMHO it just needs a team dedicated to tidying up the loose ends and the inconsistency that has evolved over the years and publish a coherent campaign sourcebook for Greyhawk - maybe advance the timeline to incorporate the developments in LG such as the Bright Desert plot line and so on. This then would be a perfect springboard for a new line of products.

There will always be some fan of GH who will not like timeline/plot developments - but what GH needs more than anything else is a solid and detailed campaign source book to start from.

The only problem I can see is if there was to be a new line of GH products is if it is designed for 4E - it just will not work with all the fluff changes etc. Best to be made for 3.5 and by being 3.5 it can be interpreted back to 2E and 1E fans with out too much hassle.

GH only needs some TLC - I understand Erik, from what I have read, has researched and compiled GH material very well over the years for his own campaign - a perfect steward for GH.

Furthermore all the articles for the GH gods and the Demonicon of Iggwilv is absolutely astounding and should be compiled and completed as source books. Surely these will sell like hot cakes? Isn't there enough proof from the popularity of Dragon and Dungeon sales in recent years, that these articles plus the GH APs/Maure Castle etc are in high demand. It's a no brainer from what I can see ...

This is a sad day. All I can say is if it hadn't been for Gary, we wouldn't be here discussing our favourite hobby.

RIP Gary

1) Do you plan to convert to the new edition of D&D?

No. Me and my group have enough 3.0/3,5 material for the meantime. 4th edition is too radical for our liking for example the cosmology changes and style of play - also there appears to be too much shoe horning for my liking to accomodate these changes.

The 3.5 core rules does not have any serious problems. In fact we intend to use some material from Monte's BOEM, which is a fraction of the cost compared to purchasing a new edition. The only problem for me with 3.0/3.5 was the lack of high quality adventure/campaign material coming from WotC - especially for Greyhawk. Dungeon/Dragon under your stewardship was the only source (mainly the adventrure paths) we yearned for and unfortunately that is all gone now. I've been dipping my toes recently into Golarion as an alternative to Greyhawk since there are no other major alternatives.

2) If Paizo converts its RPG products to 4.0, how will that affect your purchasing patterns for our products?

Will not be purchasing any Pathfinder/Golarion material since it will have to "accomodate" the 4th edition rules. And I repeat again that I will not buy a new set of rules just to use adventure/campaign material or buy the material and do conversions. I will only purchase edition neutral products like figures/flipmats and so on. This is the worst case scenario.

3) If Paizo does not convert its RPG products to 4.0, how will that affect your purchasing patterns for our products?

I will buy with confidence further Pathfinder/Golarion material as long as the quality is maintained

What a dichotmoy!

Well, color me goofy!!

I found this on Amazon:
El-Cid at Amazon.com

Although, from the reviews, it seems to be a really crappy version. Lord, I do hope this is the one you didn't get!! :-)

Its a european DVD I bought, I'm sure the one I got hasn't been enhanced etc with not much in extras so maybe they are doing a remastered version etc like Cleopatra and so on.

Anyhow enjoy your version! I'll have to have a look around and see if they are making a special edition etc for europe. Not a big loss for me since my copy was in the bargain bin from my local supermarket.

For the first time on DVD? I bought a copy of it about 3 years ago on DVD ...

There's no way to model it in a computer game.

That is exactly what my reservations are about 4E ... the amount of changes being made to the mechanics seems to imply that the changes are being made for the sake of the rules to be easily implemented in software. I reckon this must be one of the main underlying reasons why 4ED is so radical.

Also the way the delve format was developed recently for 3.5 was unusual, ok the reasons given were for ease of use in tournaments etc even though in use it hasn't been popular but on the other hand the design theory seems very software orientated - I could be reading into this too much but I'm going by my gut instincts atm.

Well I seem to be in a similar state of mind like yourself but further along the line in acquiring non WoTC books.

Ones I'd recommend are as follows:

"Book of Fiends" (Green Ronin), this a great addition and fairly compatible with the Fiendish Codex series.

"The Avatar's Handbook" (Green Ronin)and "Anger of Angels" (Malhavoc Press), these 2 books should cover things for the good guys not covered by WoTC like in the Fiendish Codices, the former book being more the opposite equivalent of the "Book of Fiends".

"Tome of Horrors I, II and III", these 3 books should provide extra Monsters to go along with your Monster Manual collection; the former being of greater importance if you are interested in what happened to 1st and 2nd edition monsters that didn't make the cut for 3rd edition. Note that some of them did appear later officially by WoTC in later manuals or other official sources.

The following I cannot give a clear guidance on but I have ordered them since they were dirt cheap:

"Book of Iron Might, The"
"The Wurst of Grimtooth's Traps"
"The Book of Roguish Luck"
"Aasimar & Tiefling" (Green Ronin)
"Monsters of the Mind" (Green Ronin)

For something a little different I bought these books to get ideas from:

"Arcana Evolved" books
"Iron Heroes" books

and you have wisely bought the "Advanced" titles.

And finally a really great product is "The City of Brass" if you like to have really cool fluff on it. I like it because of the nostalgia from 1st ed days and no one until now decided do a proper write up on it.

Hope this helps in some way. I too would be interested to hear from others what they think is worthwhile picking up.

Cheers
