Kerak pauses, mulling things over for a minute. Still, it seemed like the person they were tracking had been by here. It also looked like the kobolds knew something about the black fortress. They might have the information they needed.

Kerak looks about as the kobolds act in unison, all turning their heads to look at them, then returning to going about their business. It made his skin crawl, that weird uniformity. What if the tribe was under some kind of mind control magic, and they had grabbed Caitriann? He loosened his swords in their scabbard as they approached, and spoke with the leader of the kobolds and the lady who apparently knew Isaiah. "Jewel Water Hollow? Dangit. We were looking for the Limecracker Hollow. The person we were looking for left a journal entry that she was going to see them before heading South. You wouldn't be able to direct us to them, would you?"

Kerak does not hesitate - the beast attacked them, and when it woke up, it would probably still try to kill them for food. He thrusts both short swords into the beast's head, seeking to finish it.

I think you're right. Sorry, I'm still getting a handle on the rules. I didn't correctly remember the Rogue's Sneak Attack description, which says I don't need Advantage to deal Sneak Attack if another enemy of the creature is within 5 feet of them. I thought it gave me Advantage if I was flanking, which allowed me to use Sneak Attack.

Being right next to the Owlbear had its advantages - especially with both swords out. Kerak begins thrusting his swords into the Owlbear, trying to bring it down as it focused on Lilly.

With Lilly directly confronting the Owlbear, Kerak looped around behind the bear to stab one of his shortswords into its back.

Kerak looks at the diseased, rampaging, hungry Owlbear and decides Isaiah's advice is pretty good. Unfortunately, he had forgotten to purchase a bow back in town, so all he had were two daggers. Deciding they wouldn't be particularly effective, he circles around behind the beast, then waits for it to attack Lilly before rushing in to stab it.

I'm in favor of bypassing the castle and continuing on towards the Black Fortress. We got some information on Caitrian, we have a decent idea of where the Fortress is, and the Limecracker Kobolds may be even better. Plus, once we get back, we can report to the government of Harrispania that the goblins and such are pushing on the southern border on the other side of the river, and may be looking to expand our way.

So, given that spoiler regarding Orcs, what does that technically make me, seeing as I am a half-Orc?

Kerak cracks his neck and stretches his shoulders, then perks up at the mention of the black fortress at the Maranda river. Could be the place they needed to go. Still, Lilly had volunteered them to help, so they would have to kill a creature with lots of tentacles and a toothy maw. Since it was chained, they could probably get away with peppering it from afar with arrows.

Okay. Plan:

Let's go visit the Limecracker Kobolds at their hovel and ask to speak to Marolyn so we can get the location of the Black Fortress in the City States of Tarule. We'll probably have to do something for the Kobolds, like help solve their problems with the red goblins, but once we've done that and we have the location of the fortress, we need to gather the supplies for making the journey to the City States of Tarule so we can find the Black Fortress. Once we've found it, we need to see if we can locate Caitriann, or at least find out her fate. If the Black Fortress turns out to be the temple Vash is looking for, we may also have to do whatever it is Vash needs to do with it, but once we've found Caitriann, we return to Pawkutukit with her - or her remains - and get the second half of our reward.

I think that, generally, is what we need to accomplish. Thoughts?

Kerak smiles, "If you're going to Seaport, I'd like to give you a letter to take with you and have delivered to a gentleman you may be acquainted with named Edmund Azcarinze. I'll need to give him an update on my status before going to search for Caitriann. Do you have ink and paper?"

Once provided with such, Kerak will write a letter informing Edmund of everything he's been told by Branhilde, as well as the fact he is joining others to assist in locating the druidess Caitriann, who went to investigate a Black Fortress to the south west, which may in fact be Elwyn's location in the City States of Tarule, as well as that of the stolen artifact - successful apprehension of Elwyn and recovery of the artifact by agents working on behalf of the Chapel Hill Lodge may provide the Lodge with the means to prevent closure.

"5 weeks, huh? How far away is this place? Depending on distance, 5 weeks may be the travel time it takes just to get there," Kerak asks, rubbing his chin. The issues in Chapel Hill may be more important to Edmund, but there was always the possibility this black fortress was Elwyn's hidden temple - and that could be the larger threat in the end. "Does she say where this fortress might be located?"

I'm still waiting for an answer to how long the druid's been gone. We haven't heard anything about that yet, and we technically still have a prisoner we need to deliver to Pawkatukit.

If that druid's been gone for several months or something like that, I see no reason to rush off now. Obviously it can wait a bit.

Why is it so important for Lilly to find the druid, exactly? Is she a friend of Lilly's, or is this just a case of "She's a druid, I'm a druid, so I'm going to help her?" Cause if it's the latter, I think you'd have more obligation to the people you've actually met than a druid you've never seen before.

My character is more invested in resolving this issue with the two gangsters, as well as shapeshifter man. He'd rather learn a lot more about where the druid went before we do so - after all, this Temple or whatever may be more than we can handle. Plus, the gangsters may have information about it.

The trail at the fork leads northeast, back to the center of the village and becomes a small, but well beaten down dirt road, then a paved road that comes to the cross street of the center of town. From here, the party turns left, going west, toward Chapel Hill, and the Hall of the Solution Society.
