as Cass retrieves her cards she gestures for Des to come over before calling "I think we finally have time to try this reading, good to get it done before we go into the lions den so to speak."

She then draws the first card setting it onto the ground between the pair flipping a image of a radiant sun bearing down onto a Chelaxian caravan and all of the manacles on slave shattering. ”Ah, the Big Sky in inverse.” she starts ”A momentous change, possibly our revolt that we are planning, in inverse I might expect this path to be a reaction to the revolt, possibly what to expect when we get back to the ship.”

She then flips the next card revealing a three eyed goblin peaking out from behind a mask of Brigh and smiling which she lays down in inverse ”The courtesan, often it represents the hollow lies of those who spout political support, in inverse I might expect it indicates a betrayal by one we thought we could trust.”

Finally for the top row she draws out a third card as she casts it down to meet the other two it reveals a Dwarf holding a skeleton key reaching out for a locked door ”And finally the locksmith in inverse, the one who will betray us doesn’t hold the keys we need to gain our freedom. So we should push on past that betrayal.”

Moving swiftly onto the next layer Cass again tosses out a card showing a carnival mirror reflecting a distorted face that looks almost uncannily like Cass, ”The Carnival in inverse, it represents false dreams, I think in inverse it indicates the opposite, it means that this path is telling us about the reason we came here, Sandara and Tilly.” as she realizes her pace quickens as she moves on

Flipping the next card uncovering a deep black tornado with a face of crackling flame peeking through that almost flickers as it lands ”The cyclone, the forces that oppose all that is good. Here it is the captors.”

And the final card in this set quickly follows the last card depicting a formian queen stationed with a crown “”The Queen Mother, she is found of the downtrodden, this is a good omen, a great one even, I think they remain alive, sheltered by her despite the seemingly unstoppable force that took them!” she says with a smile looking to Des with hopeful eyes.

After letting that process for a moment she then strives on moving to the last row and exposing a card depicting a massive green devil devouring a village in a single bite. ”The fiend in inverse, I think this is best taken at face value to be a current threat either to Tilly and Sandara or to us when we return, the fiend would indicate that it is some massive threat, possibly physically imposing on a level we’ve not yet seen.”

She then takes another and levels it next to the last card showing a white unicorn leaning down and bearing a sword to a knight. ”The unicorn in inverse, it would normally be those giving gifts but here I think it confirms that the path is on those holding Sandara preventing these gifts from being received. It seems as though its massive on a scale we’ve yet to see.”

Finally she places one last card down depicting a wizard holding his finger aloft with a light spell pointing at a tome with a single glowing word in it that can’t be read in any language anyone here speaks surrounded by other words in many different tongues. ”and lastly, the Hidden Truth in inverse, a truth or in this case I think a threat lays hidden from us, possibly under the island itself. Holding the two captive”

"Break a leg" actually originates from the early days of Ziegfeld's Follies which was one of the earliest musical acts on Broadway, they over hired and you would only be paid if you enter the stage past the "legs" which are side curtains thereby "Breaking a leg"!

---Cass----

Scourge's breath is terrible, and as soon as Cass's lips meet his, he slides his hand around the back of her head and all but smashes his face against hers, hard enough to hurt her lips, his tongue invading her mouth rather unpleasantly. He looks very proud of himself as he pulls back, confident it was the best kiss she ever had. And he was right, unfortunately, since she hadn't had another.

"Tonight, then. I'll make sure they don't f#** things up this time." He realizes 'last time' was when he sent them to attack the newcomers, Cass included, and winces. "Forgive me for before, dearest. I was a fool to put you in danger. If they had hurt you..."

He seemed suddenly intensely upset, and he punched himself in the side of the head with startling violence. "Idiot! What the f#*# was I thinking!" He hit himself again, splitting his cheek. Cass was keenly reminded that love potions were dangerous things. The passions of love could easily turn dark if jealousy, suspicion, or betrayal came into play. She would have to handle him very carefully to keep him from becoming dangerous.

Cass retracts and her eyes cast downward initially but as Scourge starts beating on himself she looks to the side again and simply says "Its okay Scou-" cutting herself off to correct "Stanley, neither of us knew then what we do now." she finishes in a low monotone. she then lightly grasps his shoulder eyes downcast again and waits for him to leave.

After he does she moves up to the action up top. She looks around briefly for Des herself then seeing her missing she rushes to find Giffer in the preamble to the fight. Once it starts she looks to Giffer and asks in a hushed and hurried tone "Hey, have you seen Des around anywhere? I think I got the substance trouble she had fixed but I need to let her know what she needs to do." During the fight Cass tries to keep her eyes away not loving to see all the needless bloodshed but eventually looks both due to her worry for Dreamer and as it is a welcome distraction from what happened just before.

Scourge looked into her eyes for a long moment. "I'll have 'em do it tonight, while she's sleeping," he promised. "If...we seal the deal with a kiss." He grinned at her and puckered his lips rapidly a couple times. Such a charming man.

So very charming

A kiss, is nothing, it doesn't matter. I can do this for Des. She'd do it for me so would any of us. Cass think to herself quite taken aback. Having started her harrowing's to make her parents a precious little bit of extra money so early she had missed out on a number of trademarks of childhood. Among them were those early crushes and flirtations along with everything that came with them. momentarily she considers possible ways to get out of her first kiss being under these circumstances and with this man but quickly realizes that any moves against what he wants would have a reasonable possibility of resulting in more hard to Des. These calculations and thoughts feel eons long to Cass but as she looks up to the undulating lips of Scourge and the lids of his eyes closed she realizes it hasn't been more than a few moments. She gets onto her tippy toes feeling like she's leaving all of her organs behind to plant a kiss on Scourges pursed lips lingering until he breaks contact. When he does she settles back down to her heels and says in a much quieter and monotone voice "A kiss to seal a lovers deal." she tries to play off her change in behavior as lovesick meekness. As she waits to see if Scourge is satisfied.

"Stanley," he corrects her gently, as she says his name. "Please. Call me Stanley. That Scourge business is just that. Business." He smiled...impishly? "'Round you I'm more interested in pleasure." He's very proud of himself for that one, and it shows. "But please, go on. I'd help you with anything, love."

Stanley Scourge listens to the rest of Cass's explanation, a look of confusion on his face. "She swiped it off you? And this tonic, what, it don't work right, and you're worried she'll spill the beans? What's it do?" He waved a hand dismissively after his questions. "Nevermind, don't matter. Easy solution. I'll say she stole it from Grok, Captain'll get rid of her," he said matter-of-factly. "There. Now don't worry your pretty little head no more over it. I'll take care of it. I'll take care of everything." He reached up and tucked a stray strand of Cass's hair back behind her ear, out of her face. "I'll take care of you."

Cass stifles the panic that enters her eyes momentarily at the mention of his idea and quickly tries to redirect. As he tucks the strand of hair behind her ear she lightly grasps his hand with both of hers holding it close and saying "I mean, its honestly really petty and I quite like Des. I really just need the tonic away from her. I know where she keeps it at night maybe you could get Fipps or Tam to break into her locker tonight then just throw it overboard!" She lets go of his hand with one of hers and draws her hand over the his shoulder starting in for a hug as she finishes "Please. Stanley."

”Of course. And thank you so much.” Cass says as she unconsciously shuffles her deck. ”Is everything okay?” She asks as she presents the deck to be cut by Des. After receiving the cut she draws out the top 9 cards laying them out face down. Well nervously looking around and seeing that Scourge has left she flips the first card revealing a masked imprisoned figure dressed in a clowns clothing led by goblins flipped in inverse. ”The idiot in reverse, normally this represents blackmail or hubris from an underling, in inverse it could mean a seeming authority figure approaching you and doing the same.” Cass say as she looks up at Des to see if she can read if that tracks with her. As she flips the next card revealing a dead face with black smoak coming from its hollowed eye sockets and mouth wearing the armor of a kingsgaurd.

”The Lost.” She explains ”Can show the permanently insane or those trapped among lunatics.” she pauses for a moment looking up at Des again then returns down and offers ”as the transitive card though I think this represents you feeling like there’s no way past this feeling like you may be trapped in this insanity forever. She places her hand on Des’ hand, ”But there always is and we are here for you to work towards it.” she flips the next card revealing a dwarf holding a skeleton key flipped in inverse.

”The Locksmith” She goes on ”Can often represent the tools one would expect to use to get a solution. In this case it seems those won’t be the tools that you need. It may be outside of the norm ideas using makeshift tools that fall from nowhere that get you though.” She looks around to Des and Sandara ”There’s the first path” She says ”Possibly one of many or possibly the true one.” She then flips the first card in the middle revealing a stage with puppets and actors moving across it.

”The theatre often represents the process of prophecy, sometimes it can be the active harrowing, a previous one or some other form of prophecy.” She considers for a moment before saying ”This card is so dependent on its circumstances that little can be said about this row until it has all been revealed.” She explains as she moves to flip the second two cards in the row. They reveal a cyclops holding tankards one of ale and one of wine. The final card in the row is a beautiful mosaic of colors showing a shop in a hut with a merchant with a covered face.

”The Publican and the Foreign Trader after the Theater.” She chuckles softly ”The Publican is indicative of sage advice coming from a figure one can take refuge by and the Foreign Trader is a figure who deals in knowledge and secrets. The cards seem to be tooting their own and my horn asking you to take heed of the other paths here its rare that they would spend an entire row on this so I think they are confident in the others”

Moving to the final row Cass flips the first card which reveals a gold dragon shattering one of its own eggs with a baby dragon crawling out and crushing the infant. ”The Tyrant is a ruler that harms those he rules over, We have a few options there but I’d bet that this represents Harrigan.” She says as she flips the next card revealing a crocodile in the guise of a gentleman

”The Rakshasa, is mental domination and slavery.” She quickly says ”This path is what happens if we abide by the rule of the Tyrant.” As she flips the final card revealing a Rabbit wearing a crown and wielding a broken sword flipped into inverse. ”The fall of the unlikely upstart. The Rabbit Prince, If I remember correctly this card represented you in our last reading.”

”I hope that was helpful.” She says ”Is there anything that needs clarifying there?”
