Ok, Making the list from PaizoCon:

  • You've signed up for tier 10-11 in a special. Why do I keep signing up for that tier? I swear 5-6 or 7-8 is the sweet spot.

  • The groups counter to invisible stalkers is to hit it with a tanglefoot bag, then stab the floating goo...[/list]
  • I took this magus to L12 in the special in Jormadun (or however you spell it) and it was awesome. Dwarven historian blackblade magus, so it was too perfect. I had one spell left and no arcane pool by the time we were done, but we rocked it :)

I realize this is Grand Lodge storyline, but it's in my ancient homeland! I think I have to check this out.

    Scarab Sages

Right then ... must be time to check up on this, lads and lassies! I'll be bringin' me dorn dorgar, me armor, and a cask of me best beer! You birdie folk do drink beer, yes? Wouldn't want to accidentally poison somebody.

I like to think I was viable throughout my career as a dwarven blackblade with my handy waraxe.

A dwarf in an adamantine breastplate stands before you, waraxe in hand. "I'm afraid this relic belongs to the dwarven people, lads and lassies. Give it up, and walk away. I don't want to hurt ye. Now my friend Dum-Muraz here, he might want to hurt ye." Wait ... is that one dwarf or several?

Before combat : Kazmarok has vampiric touch cast into his spell storing adamantium breastplate. If he knows the party is coming, he has also cast shield, mirror image, and blur.

During combat : Kazmarok will cast haste using spell combat to enhance himself and his allies and spend an arcane pool point to enhance his axe to +5 flaming, and then begin spellstriking with intensified shocking grasp, frigid touch, chill touch, or corrosive touch with his bladebound keen waraxe, switching combat spells based on observed energy resistances. He will use the empowered magic arcana on a foe who appears particularly dangerous. If he has trouble hitting, he will use pool points for arcane accuracy and cast dispel magic on PC's defensive spells. Otherwise, he will spend them on spell recall to keep mirror image active and maintain temporary hit points from vampiric touch.

Give him a couple allies, and this sounds like a messy encounter.

If I wasn't a Blackblade (unnecessary complications for a new player) I'd volunteer to be the magus pregen since at least I'd be legal LOL

I'm going to bring up an actual situation in a PFS scenario, tier 7-11, playing up.

    No %$@#, there I was ...:

A huge statue animated, and at the same time a wall collapsed in a cloud of dust, obscuring what was behind it. The party fighter went to engage the statue, supported by the party monk. The fighter took over half HP in one round. Someone then cast haste (or the cleric equivalent, but the details don't matter greatly for this example.) Significant numbers of undead then came out of the cloud of dust, forcing the party to divide resources against two threats. At this point, the party magus decided things just got real. The first undead creature was struck by a spellstrike intensified shocking grasp through a dwarven waraxe, followed up by the second strike from spell combat, which dropped it. This was followed by the haste attack, which was a crit due to improved critical. Finally, the iterative dropped the second undead creature.

In this situation, one character probably inflicted about 150 points of damage. However, this was probably a major reaason the party survived that encounter without anyone dropping.

I just have to support another dwarven magus with a waraxe! While I didn't build this direction, it occured to me that cleaving after casting chill touch could be interesting.

There is now a "Welcome to Pathfinder!" boon which is intended to be handed out to new players (and can only be applied to their -1 character). It offers a choice between various forms of healing, etc.
Off topic a little bit but has this actually been released? I can't find the darn thing anywhere.
Venture officers can get access to them. If you need some talk to your local VO.

From my understanding, these are currently Con only boons, to help pull new players into PFS.

    Shiny new 4th star =D

Well, congratulations on star 4! I still have twenty some scenarios to go until I get there.

Another dwarf magus here. Blackblade with a dwarven waraxe can be pretty impressive when you make it keen and you're hasted (from your own casting or someone else's.) Along with the usual shocking grasp fun, someone's going to get an axe crit :)

    Scarab Sages

Remember it's a limited resource which a magus may want to use for other things, which prevents it from getting too OP. Now I like using pool points for a +5 keen dwarven waraxe, but I also recognize that it stops me from using spell recall, arcane accuracy, or accurate strike as often. On the other hand, axe crits :)

Maybe I'll make it to magus one day..

I played a Dwarf Magus to 13th level using a Dwarven Waraxe. I'd show up to Cons wearing a fake beard and plastic Viking Helmet. I never let on that he was a Caster. I placed his mini up front and said I'd be taking the hits. When my turn in combat came around I'd start off by Sundering.

Then during 2nd round, declare Spell Combat, cast Intensified Shocking Grasp. Watch as everyone's jaw hits the floor.

    Hmm, I like.

I'm a fan of the dwarven waraxe magus. I made one as a bladebound. Mostly I used more defensive spells than damage, but then a scenario happened where the fighter went down in front of me due to some brutal tactics. Then it wasn't just jaws hitting the floor when I started casting the heavy stuff; it was bodies.

From the Black Blade description (second paragraph):

A black blade is always a one-handed slashing weapon, a rapier, or a sword cane. The magus chooses the blade’s type upon gaining the blade, and once chosen, it can’t be changed. As a bladebound magus increases in level, his black blade gains power.

As we do with Pathfinder, we have to separate 'rules' from 'fluff'. I believe the first sentence is rules - the 'blade' (noun describing the weapon of a Bladebound Magus, not a specific weapon type) will be one of the following types of weapons: <list>. The 'blade' (using the newly defined noun 'blade' for this archytype) has the following description.

I think it's a cool concept that fits within the pervue of the rules. 'Blade' in this context takes on a specific meaning for this archetype, based on the title. And it's better than calling it a 'Slashing-Weaponbound Magus'.

We also have to remember a Dwarven Waraxe and a Klar both qualify for this, upon looking again. Definitely non-traditional 'blades'.

And as a dwarven bladebound magus, I use me hand-forged waraxe :)

    Scarab Sages 4/5

Kazmarok Starforger here! I forged me own axe Dum-Muzaz from the metals of a fallen star. He tells me he is here to strike at the demonic horrors that keep comin' through the Worldwound. While I'm more of a historical bent meself, I keep him happy in me quest to explore the Sky Citadels because the latest one is near the Wound itself, which means I have to strike down me fair share and more of demons.

Adamantine armor is for defending against the mob of mooks that all have multishot and rapid shot, but not clustered shot. Adamantine spell storing armor is for the discerning dwarf magus who likes to surprise the first enemy who hits with intensified shocking grasp or vampiric touch.
