Greetings,

I've recently come across Purple Duck Games' Purple Mountain and I'm looking to recruit a group in order to run through it. At the moment, three of the twenty levels are available but I'm looking to run it from beginning to end.

I'll be setting it in the Five Kings Mountains region, but this isn't an indicator to create a Dwarf, it just happens to be a handy place to put the dungeon.

I'm looking for well-constructed characters, with enough background and description to let me really get a feel for the characters.

Character Creation:
- 20 point buy.
- Two traits, both of which must match up with the background presented.
- Average starting wealth for class.
- A character sheet is not required, however I'm looking for a well thought out concept with background, description and personality. Make me feel like I know the character.
- The adventure will begin in the city of Kerse, in the Kalistocracy of Druma.

From a player point of view, I'm looking for dedicated players who are capable of posting at least one detailed post a day. I generally run games as the rules dictate but for play by post, I make one exception.

Group Initiative: I take an average initiative across the group and then roll for the group and each group of enemy combatants. This determines initiative order. When it is the turn of players, posts are taken in chronological order. This can mean that between turns, players will act at different times within their turn but reduces any requirements for ret-conning posts.

Closing date will be the 31st of December 2012, with a view to starting on the 3rd of January 2013.

First of all, let me start this thread by saying this is not a feature I would envision being in place within the first year or so of launch. With that said, onwards!

My main character will be evil. He will be evil and he will be a trader. A while back, I believe that Ryan said that established settlements would attract the attention of hordes of monstrous humanoids such as orcs and bugbears who would gather on the boundaries of these settlements and threaten to invade.

My request is this: allow me as an evil trader to be able to supply the NPCs with weapons and armour. Obviously I don't mean magical armour and weapons but rather masterwork armour and weapons. Why? Perhaps the settlement they are set to invade houses one of my competitors. Perhaps I was spurned by the King when I asked for his daughter's hand in marriage. Perhaps I need to offload a wagonload of stolen merchandise and they're handy. Regardless, it would add another layer of interaction for us evil roleplayers!

I have a most amusing mental image of Tony's becoming the Subway of Golarion.

Blaeringr, make it happen! ;)

I'm wholly disappointed in the reactions from those in the "Pathfinder Online" camp, although I'm loathe to call it that. We are being asked to evangelise the game and yet this is the reaction that someone who, having raised a valid issue, is greeted with.

Although this is not an issue that Goblinworks has much direct control over, given that they are not involved directly with Paizo's day to day operations, that does not excuse the reaction from those on this board and most certainly not the reaction from you, Ryan.

You are the public face of Pathfinder Online, more so than any employee at either Goblinworks or Paizo. It would do the game and the community well for you to rein in your reactions.

I am as disgruntled as the next gamer when someone makes baseless claims about the game but Captain Marsh came in here with a legitimate concern over something that concerns not just him but all of us who purchase Paizo tabletop products. None of us want to see a decline in quality because Paizo employees are diverted on to helping Goblinworks. Now, I do not believe this will be the case, but regardless it doesn't mean that there should be a backlash of such contempt as that serves only to further divide the Paizo community at large.

For those of you who are here solely from an MMO point of view, you are joining an existing community that has been here for years. There will be legitimate concerns from them. They may be unfounded, but if you are unable to keep a civil tone whilst conversing with them, refrain from posting and let those of us with a modicum more patience try and help them understand.

For those of you who are coming here from the tabletop point of view, please understand that Pathfinder Online is a project that, whilst falling under a Paizo brand, is unlikely to have any kind of financial impact upon Paizo. Hopefully, the game will spur new creations such as the Thornkeep and Emerald Spire books that, even if you have no interest in the MMO, will become a valuable part of your gaming collection.

This should not be a "them and us" situation and it really, really disappoints me that it seems to be turning into that.

Granted, Paizo have a vested interest in seeing Pathfinder Online succeed but I don't see this venture detracting from their main business. Yes, there are members of upper management straddling both companies but those that are doing so must expect to be able to manage this or they wouldn't have done it.

And of course, as Goblinworks grows the time requirement will likely shrink as Goblinworks becomes more autonomous. It might be that certain staff members at Paizo jump to Goblinworks but they will be replaced by someone equally up to the task.

Your posts kind of come off as telling Paizo how to run their business. They've been successful for ten years through thick and thin; give them the benefit of the doubt that they know what they are doing.

Also yes, Paizo are asking their existing customer base to invest but only if they want to. What Paizo is attempting to do is more along the lines of attracting new customers to their franchise through a new medium. This MMO comes at a time when a lot of players are becoming bored with the current methodology in the MMORPG genre and this could prove to be lucrative to Goblinworks and by extension, Paizo, and that can only benefit us all.

unfortunately, it seems the direction you have chosen is to become another wow clone. another game that takes some parts of pathfinder and mixes them with typical mmo conventions. just an example, you have stated that you are only going to loosely follow the class structure. why you would deviate from this is madness.

I'm going to take a wild stab in the dark here that either a) you've never played World of Warcraft or b) this is a knee-jerk reaction and you're venting at some perceived slight.

As someone who is a) a Pathfinder fan and b) a long-time MMO player, the game that Goblinworks is creating is NOTHING like World of Warcraft aside from the fact that it is a massively multiplayer game.

First of all, because the Pathfinder ruleset is created from the OGL they are EXPRESSLY PROHIBITED from creating any form of video game based on the Pathfinder ruleset as read verbatim. This is why Pathfinder Online has to be an approximation of the ruleset.

Next, Goblinworks are creating a sandbox. This means that the actions of the players, and not the developers, are what will craft the world in which we play. Yes, the developers will provide us with the tools, much like a DM would with a tabletop game) but it is up to us to do what we want in it.

I realise that this post will come across as confrontational but no more than yours, and given that your post is predicated upon emotion and false information, I feel I need to put such strength into the post. Nothing would please me more than for more of the tabletop players who refuse to look at Pathfinder Online simply because it is an MMO to take a deep breath and thoroughly read into what the game is about.

I must agree with Corwynn that sometimes the tone of regulars posts come across as "omg, don't you know this already"? I think a bit of temperance in the posts will go a long way.

I missed out on the first Kickstarter for the tech demo so I'm wondering if there are any plans above "maybe" to have a second Kickstarter of some description for the post-tech demo development? What I've read about the game so far has me fired up in a way I haven't been for a long time and I'd love to be able to help contribute.
