This has been delightful to read! I'm so happy you enjoyed the face-off against Shadow Malice.

Long live "DON'T LOOK AT ME!"

Hi Vanessa!!

I absolutely loved the bar in the middle of the dungeon. You did an amazing job with it. It was so unique. Things were initially a little precarious when we entered the bar as we tried to decide whether to fight or drink but the choice was made when Tess bellied up to the bar and a good time was had by all. That is until we got challenged to the battle of the bands. Unlike the rest of the cadre, I was excited by the challenge. Breen is a way of the pistolero gunslinger with a pistol phenom dedication. Because of this, one of her skills is performance and I had yet to use it during the campaign. That being said, it was late at night and we had no idea what would happen if we lost the battle. The bar could instantly turn on us. It was a tense moment and it felt like a lot was riding on my single role. Could I keep the party safe? I concentrated and let loose my die. Nat 20! The whole room erupted into cheers, the late hour forgotten as elation overtook us. We lived to fight another day! Thank you for such a memorable gaming moment!

Thanks so much for the congratulations. The 100 hours seemed to fly by as I was enthralled by the adventures.
The Abomination Arsenal in particular has been a non-stop roller coaster of highs and lows. We've been up and down a lot and as the primary healer, Breen has been busy. She couldn't save Rome and now tries her hardest to ensure that no one else is lost.

Soundtrack Song: I chose Elle King's "Last Damn Night" because it exemplifies Breen's "live fast because you never know what will happen" attitude. She'll always go down shooting.

GM Commentary: "Karee is a longtime friend of the Order and is the owner of Critical Hit Cookies, which have fueled us throughout many adventures over the years. If you've had one of these cookies during a Marathon, you know what a natural 20 tastes like. This is actually Karee's final marathon as a prospective member, and if the party is still alive on day two, Karee will cross the 100-hour mark and become a full member of OAD. All eyes on you, kid."

Playing in The Slithering Salve project with Order of the Amber Die was an amazing experience. I grew so much as a player over the course of this project. By the end, I was not only playing Lini but I was also helping to run the Initiative Board to keep combat on track. I found that when we were in crunch time on the marathon that I loved the game even more.
Ron Lundeen did an amazing job on this module. From the sheer number of different oozes, most of which I’d never heard of, to the demon filled city of Holy Xatramba and our final epic battle upon our return to Kibwe, it was a roller coaster that I didn’t want to end. Plus Lini got to turn into a dinosaur! How could I not love that!
Lini was my first spellcaster but she will definitely not be my last. This time around I was more confident in my spell selection though I admit I reached for my book seemingly more than anyone else to confirm things. Droogami was also my first companion character. When the chips were down in the final battle and most of the party had fallen including Lini, Droogami was one of the final 3 who took down the BBEG. We were triumphant in completing The Slithering though I admit I thought we were done for on more than one occasion. But the group pulled together and we came out on top though Skuulkush will be missed.
Lini, Droogami and The Slithering will always be a part of me and one I treasure.

While I definitely plan on enjoying myself, I too hope I live long enough to do so. I couldn't be more excited to begin playing! I love the idea of an AP about freedom and personal choice and look forward to seeing what all you have in store for us!

I WISH I could've been a fly on the wall during each and every one of those Critical Fumbles! What a riot! Very good times...
Yeah, the Critical Fumbles were definitely interesting! The party was examining a room that had a few buttons on the walls, and Fumbus being his curious self decided to push one. The desk below it then lit up, and this intrigued me even more. I continued to press the rest of them (thinking it was a good idea) and set off a trap that blinded and heavily damaged half the party - leaving them even more frustrated with me than they already were. Droogami had officially had enough of the goblin after a previous confusion effect (see above), and bit me fairly rough. I then tried to give a little swing at the cat with my dogslicer, and somehow I was able to miss so badly that he knocked himself unconscious, in true goblin fashion!

Officially Lini told Droogami to do it. And the fumble was because karma said don't go after the cat!

Always a pleasure when you guys invite us in to your game. A pleasure and inspiration. Looks like it was an awesome session! Keep on keepin' on!

Speaking of being invited into their games, moving from avid fan to participant was such an amazing experience. I've been a fan of the Order for years now and while I've gotten to know the gang, it was still such an honor to be asked to play in The Slithering.

I entered with trepidation and excitement. These are incredible players. Would I be up to the task? The excitement needs no explanation.
I was pleased to find out I could hold my own and the excitement soon gave way to awe at the incredible surroundings I found myself in. The jungle backdrop completely surrounded us and the vines added depth to the immersion. The soundtrack was incredible and helped motivate us and I admit I was not the only one who danced along at times. From Adam's hand drawn map to the ones filled with props and terrain collected over years, the table was by far the most awesome I've ever seen.
The adventure had epic highs and nail biting lows as we traversed Kibwe and I know I'm not the only one anxiously awaiting our return to Mwangi. And I don't even want to talk about the slime bucket. Just ick. But it certainly brought the pain of being hit by an ooze into reality.
All told, the marathon was by far my best gaming experience ever and the fact that I get to do it again fills me with joy!

I now want to make Arvya's divine muffins....and turn them into a cookie. But this could possibly just be me.

Speaking for myself, this is the hardest project to let go of, and that includes every Pathfinder project since 2014. Each undertaking has its own story in our real lives, and its own spin inside the game as well.

The Emerald Spire Project tested how many days we could play consecutively toward a goal.

The Giantslayer Endeavor tested how many marathons we could sustain in half a year's time.

The Strange Aeons Experiment tested our ability to adapt to an entirely new genre for us.

The Pathfinder Playtest tested our skill in crunching a new system at the fastest pace imaginable.

The Azlant Odyssey tested our ability to hold a long campaign together despite the real-life events that challenged it. Two babies were born, two new members were inducted, and we tossed an eight-blog playtest into the middle of this AP. In terms of session hours, Azlant was the lengthiest campaign we've ever played, and a lot of that had to do with the amount of activities available to characters during downtime. Yet we found a way to come together again and again, to stand in awe as we opened the chambers of lost Azlant to gaze upon sites unseen for thousands of years.

Now a little something for the Order, you guys know I do this at the end of every path...

Marathon 1: Never forget that hike down the beach that we took as a group out to the end of Long Beach Island, with the lights of Atlantic City in the distance.

Marathon 2: I'd like to take a moment and thank Urgent Care, for providing medical treatment to three OAD members during this marathon. Oh yeah, there was that hospital trip in there too. The Order is more important than any one of us, so we played through.

Marathon 3: We already have a name for this one, and that evil USB chose it: File not found. It's too painful to elaborate on. Safe to say we won't forget it--yet there's nothing there.

Marathon 4: Hands-down one of the top three marathons in OAD history. In thirty-three...

I always love your synapsis posts and this one was better than ever with a look back on all on the projects. Thank you for all of the hard work and effort and for sharing your amazing games!

Thanks for your support both here and with your tasty treats, Karee. I always look forward to eating a blondie or two before Adam eats them all. They help fuel me up before wading into hordes of undersea monsters.

Well, then the treats are doing their job. I always aim for the best monster fighting recipes. And lots of blondies are coming so maybe Adam will let you have more than two.

James Sutter is an incredible writer. This story grabbed my attention and refused to let it go. I didn't want it to end. The iconics both captured me and the tentacled magnets were SO much fun. I'm new to Starfinder and now want to play both a ysoki and a solarian because of this. Thanks!

Thanks again for another great read and for sharing such dedication with the community!

K, thanks so much for the words of encouragement! It's a nice feeling to know that people noticed the pace we kept, because we found ourselves sitting there at times after a session in the middle of the night, compiling data and planning for the next two-week segment saying "Are other groups out there keeping this pace?" :) I like to think of it this way though: No matter how furious our schedule, imagine all the effort it took on the part of the design team at Paizo to read and react to so many reports coming in at that same pace! I can only wonder what these next few months look like for them until version 2.0 ships out to print...

Truth be told, it was an awesome gaming experience to be able to play a role in the evolution of the game that OAD approaches as a lifestyle--and we got to make many new friends like yourself in the community throughout!
What a great perspective you have! To be able to think about the design team's efforts instead of focusing on your own herculean task shows exactly how much you do love the game. It's because of that sort of attitude that I am happy to be counted as a friend :)

Great job OAD team! I love the photos.

Thanks Fumarole, I'm glad you could come along on another ride with us. I must admit, I'm incredibly happy that so many people like the photos. We have a lot of members, and our roster changes a bit with each project, so the photo team tends to vary a bit. This time it was Erick on editing and myself on the primary camera. We tried to look around at how people were documenting their games in the community, and then approach the shots from a fresh perspective. The shoggoth was actually my favorite one, and a lot went into it: I picked up a desk sculpture of a shoggoth from Ebay, another member (Jody) chiseled it out of the plaster, we put it on a 3x3 base, used several black lights to give it some of the black sheen that Jacobs described in the module, added a small reading light to let some colors appear, and then shot top-down with a 60mm macro lens to throw off the perspective of how big it was.

We've had such a good response about the photos on our own social media as well, that I'm going to add another seminar to our usual two that we run at GenCon every year. The subject of the seminar will be something down the line of what it takes to document your game. We'll use the photos from this project, some of the recent Azlant photos, and even ones from older projects to explain what goes into documenting your own game, as well as how to make some simple improvements that took us a couple of years to learn. It seems like more groups than ever are documenting their games out there, so hopefully it gets some interest and we can help others with what we've picked up over the years.

Stay tuned for an 8th blog: a wrapup complete with behind-the-scenes photos, cumulative data, and reactions. :)

It's fascinating to hear what all has gone into making such incredible photos. We appreciate the work and the glimpse behind the scenes. The new seminar also sounds like a winner. Sharing hard earned knowledge can only benefit the game and its participants. Looking forward to reading the final wrapup.

Thanks, K, there's a huge sense of relief not only having completed the playtest, but also doing it successfully! The dragon fight was definitely an epic one, it's breath weapon was something to be feared. We managed to make it through that fairly unscathed, relatively speaking of course, with a few meteor swarm spells.

I had a blast going through this last part of the playtest, pushing our classes to the limits to accomplish our goals. So glad that you could come along for the ride, it makes the work that much more worth it. WE DID IT!!!

It’s been a great ride! I know you all put in a ton of work on this and it shows. I love the fact that you were successful with non traditional classes. You have proven any class can work in the new system. Thanks again for taking us with you!

Everyone group should have one! If for no other reason than to shout: “RELEASE THE KRAKEN!!”

Thanks for the congrats on the win too! It was really dicey there at the end. My heart was definitely pounding in my chest. An against-the-odds-win following an epic pirate party? Can’t think of a much better way to spend a night gaming.

Exactly! Also it's always better to be the one releasing the kraken than fighting it. You're right. Winning, pirates and a kraken--gaming doesn't get much better than that!

Previous Incarnation of Gorax:

Favourite sayings:

'Drink is the evil that makes deamons of ordinary men'
'I'll look after you now, mother'
'How about you and me put down this steel and meet flesh to flesh outside'

Background:

His father had settled after a Kellid raid to retrieve resources from the peaceful lands around the northern River Kingdoms. He found a local woman, with whom he fell in love and gave up his Kellid ways. The man and woman married and he tried his hand at mining, where his great strength would be used to his advantage. Unfortunately, life in the mines and the loss of his Northlands, meant he drank more and more.
Gorax's father became an alcoholic and a drunkard and abusing his mother. Gorax killed his father after his father came home drunk one day and started up again on his mother. The abuse meant he rarely did much at school, but was renowned for his strength. He doesn't like taverns or people that drink, especially to excess. He is of course tea total. He only goes in Taverns if he really needs to, preferring to stay outside, or even stay in the stable rather than take a room at the Inn. He has grown to understand that people go to meet in taverns for business, so knows he must enter sometimes.

The huge brute of a boy, has always been good with his fists, since he needed to use them to keep his father from hitting him as well. His siblings a younger brother and 2 sisters grew to rely on Gorax for protection.

At school, several boys/girls befriended Gorax, as he would provide protection. For despite his strength and size Gorax was not a bully, and always seemed to want to protect the weaker folks.

He has found it difficult to keep a job with his views on alcohol. At the beginning, several tavern owners thought he would make a good bouncer, because he could be trusted not to drink. But more than one reveller has been severely injured after drinking too much and suffered at Gorax's hands. Drinkers started to stay away from Taverns where he was stationed.

He tried his hand at the city militia/guard, but even they thought his attitude too much to handle, so he was asked to leave. They did however managed to teach him the the way of the sword and shield. He is now proud of his skills handling weapons, but you can't beat a good punch-up.

He as had a go at prize fighting, where he started to do well, but he didn't loose when he was told to. Which meant several important men lost a lot of money in gambling on his fights.

Now all that seems left is to go off so seek work or adventure anywhere that can offer rewards he could share with his family. Gorax has heard that a team of explorers into the 'Stolen Lands' is in need of some muscle. With a warrant from the lords of Brevoy, he sees an opportunity to provide a new and stable home for his family, where he can be in a privileged position as a founder of a new kingdom.

Appearance:

Young, but large and brutish with a nose at an angle, typical of a boxer. He has large cauliflower ears, his black hair dirty and ragged is tied in a ponytail down to his shoulders. Under black bushy eyebrows, gray eyes peer out surrounded by scarred tissue. His hands in huge tarnished gauntlets look large and powerful. He wears a brown dirty, torn shirt over his chainmail. A longsword is hung by his side, it looks only slightly cleaner than the rest of him. On his back rests a shabby, but very study backpack. His head down, he lumbers across the courtyard, but at second glance, he seems much lighter on his feet than you would imagine.

Choose from traits:

Combat
* Courageous: Your childhood was brutal, yet you persevered primarily through force of will and the hope that no matter how hard things might get, as long as you kept a level head you’d make it through. You gain a +2 trait bonus on saving throws against fear effects.
* Deft Dodger: Growing up in a rough neighborhood or a dangerous environment has honed your senses. You gain a +1 trait bonus on Reflex saves.
* Reactionary: You were bullied often as a child, but never quite developed an offensive response. Instead, you became adept at anticipating sudden attacks and reacting to danger quickly. You gain a +2 trait bonus to Initiative checks.

Faith
Indomitable Faith: You were born in a region where your faith was not popular, yet you never abandoned it. Your constant struggle to maintain your own faith has bolstered your drive; you gain a +1 trait bonus on Will saves as a result.

Social
* Poverty-Stricken: Your childhood was tough, and your parents had to make every copper piece count. Hunger was your constant companion, and you often had to live off the land or sleep in the wild. You gain a +1 bonus to Survival checks, and Survival is always a class skill for you.

Kingmaker
* Brigand: You hail from the River Kingdoms or the more lawless reaches of Brevoy. Life has been hard for you. Perhaps your parents and siblings were crooks and con artists, or maybe your rough, lonely life lead you to fall in with thieves and worse. You know how to ambush travelers, bully traders, avoid the law, and camp where no one might find you. Recently, you’ve run into some trouble, either with the law or with other bandits, and you’re looking to get away to somewhere no one would ever think to look for you. An expedition into the rugged
wilderness seems like a perfect way to lie low until the trouble blows over. You begin the campaign with an extra 100 gp in ill-gotten gains. You also gain a +1 trait bonus on Bluff, Diplomacy, Intimidate, and Sense Motive checks when dealing with brigands, thieves, bandits, and their ilk.
* Issian: You were raised northern Brevoy, a land of misty shores and harsh hill lands, of snowy vistas and violet-hued mountains. You are descended from an able and intelligent people, and you have grand ambitions, a mind alert for opportunity, and the tenacity to fight for
your goals no matter the challenge. You care for little more than achieving your aspirations and opportunities to win wealthy and grandeur, for which few costs prove too great. You see yourself as a citizen of Brevoy through and through. The call for champions willing
to help take back your country’s rightful holdings in the Stolen Lands has inflamed your dreams of profit and possibilities, so you have joined an expedition to quest south. Your agile mind grants you a +1 trait bonus on all Will saves made to resist mind-affecting effects.
* Rostlander: You were raised in the south of Brevoy, a land of dense forests and rolling plains, of crystalline rivers and endless sapphire skies. You come from hearty stock and were raised with simple sensibilities of hard work winning well-deserved gains, the importance
of charity and compassion, and the value of personal and familial honor. Yours is the country of the Aldori swordlords and the heroes who refused to bend before the armies of a violent conqueror. You care little for matters of politics and nobles or of deception and schemes. As you are thoroughly Brevic, the call for champions willing to expand your land’s influence into the Stolen Lands has inflamed your sense of patriotism and honor, and so you have joined an expedition to quest southward. Your hardy nature grants you a +1 trait bonus on all Fortitude saves.
* Sword Scion: You have lived all your life in and around the city of Restov, growing up on tales of Baron Sirian Aldori and the exploits of your home city’s heroic and legendary swordlords. Perhaps one of your family members was an Aldori swordlord, you have a contact among their
members, or you have dreamed since childhood of joining. Regardless, you idolize the heroes, styles, and philosophies of the Aldori and have sought to mimic their vaunted art. Before you can petition to join their ranks, however, you feel that you must test your mettle. Joining an expedition into the Stolen Lands seems like a perfect way to improve your skills and begin a legend comparable to that of Baron Aldori. You begin play with a longsword or Aldori dueling sword and gain a +1 trait bonus on all attacks and combat maneuvers made with such weapons.
