Elorebaen wrote: AMAZING! Thank you for taking us along for the ride. It is very much appreciated. It's our pleasure. Thank you for supporting us. The thing that stands out most for me this marathon was that we actually made some friends! Considering our track record with most people we came across, this was outstanding. While not everyone hated us and we redeemed ourselves in a few eyes, our relations with the town were rocky more than once. But the drow outpost was full of new people and included a lot of brash shooters. We had finally found our people. It added a nice social component to the game that we had been missing a bit and gave us a layered experience.

Vanessa Hoskins wrote: This has been delightful to read! I'm so happy you enjoyed the face-off against Shadow Malice.
Long live "DON'T LOOK AT ME!"
Hi Vanessa!!
I absolutely loved the bar in the middle of the dungeon. You did an amazing job with it. It was so unique. Things were initially a little precarious when we entered the bar as we tried to decide whether to fight or drink but the choice was made when Tess bellied up to the bar and a good time was had by all. That is until we got challenged to the battle of the bands. Unlike the rest of the cadre, I was excited by the challenge. Breen is a way of the pistolero gunslinger with a pistol phenom dedication. Because of this, one of her skills is performance and I had yet to use it during the campaign. That being said, it was late at night and we had no idea what would happen if we lost the battle. The bar could instantly turn on us. It was a tense moment and it felt like a lot was riding on my single role. Could I keep the party safe? I concentrated and let loose my die. Nat 20! The whole room erupted into cheers, the late hour forgotten as elation overtook us. We lived to fight another day! Thank you for such a memorable gaming moment!

Thanks so much for the congratulations. The 100 hours seemed to fly by as I was enthralled by the adventures.
The Abomination Arsenal in particular has been a non-stop roller coaster of highs and lows. We've been up and down a lot and as the primary healer, Breen has been busy. She couldn't save Rome and now tries her hardest to ensure that no one else is lost.

Soundtrack Song: I chose Elle King's "Last Damn Night" because it exemplifies Breen's "live fast because you never know what will happen" attitude. She'll always go down shooting.
GM Commentary: "Karee is a longtime friend of the Order and is the owner of Critical Hit Cookies, which have fueled us throughout many adventures over the years. If you've had one of these cookies during a Marathon, you know what a natural 20 tastes like. This is actually Karee's final marathon as a prospective member, and if the party is still alive on day two, Karee will cross the 100-hour mark and become a full member of OAD. All eyes on you, kid."

Playing in The Slithering Salve project with Order of the Amber Die was an amazing experience. I grew so much as a player over the course of this project. By the end, I was not only playing Lini but I was also helping to run the Initiative Board to keep combat on track. I found that when we were in crunch time on the marathon that I loved the game even more.
Ron Lundeen did an amazing job on this module. From the sheer number of different oozes, most of which I’d never heard of, to the demon filled city of Holy Xatramba and our final epic battle upon our return to Kibwe, it was a roller coaster that I didn’t want to end. Plus Lini got to turn into a dinosaur! How could I not love that!
Lini was my first spellcaster but she will definitely not be my last. This time around I was more confident in my spell selection though I admit I reached for my book seemingly more than anyone else to confirm things. Droogami was also my first companion character. When the chips were down in the final battle and most of the party had fallen including Lini, Droogami was one of the final 3 who took down the BBEG. We were triumphant in completing The Slithering though I admit I thought we were done for on more than one occasion. But the group pulled together and we came out on top though Skuulkush will be missed.
Lini, Droogami and The Slithering will always be a part of me and one I treasure.

JulianDappolone wrote: Keith Greer wrote: I WISH I could've been a fly on the wall during each and every one of those Critical Fumbles! What a riot! Very good times... Yeah, the Critical Fumbles were definitely interesting! The party was examining a room that had a few buttons on the walls, and Fumbus being his curious self decided to push one. The desk below it then lit up, and this intrigued me even more. I continued to press the rest of them (thinking it was a good idea) and set off a trap that blinded and heavily damaged half the party - leaving them even more frustrated with me than they already were. Droogami had officially had enough of the goblin after a previous confusion effect (see above), and bit me fairly rough. I then tried to give a little swing at the cat with my dogslicer, and somehow I was able to miss so badly that he knocked himself unconscious, in true goblin fashion! Officially Lini told Droogami to do it. And the fumble was because karma said don't go after the cat!

Elorebaen wrote: Always a pleasure when you guys invite us in to your game. A pleasure and inspiration. Looks like it was an awesome session! Keep on keepin' on! Speaking of being invited into their games, moving from avid fan to participant was such an amazing experience. I've been a fan of the Order for years now and while I've gotten to know the gang, it was still such an honor to be asked to play in The Slithering.
I entered with trepidation and excitement. These are incredible players. Would I be up to the task? The excitement needs no explanation.
I was pleased to find out I could hold my own and the excitement soon gave way to awe at the incredible surroundings I found myself in. The jungle backdrop completely surrounded us and the vines added depth to the immersion. The soundtrack was incredible and helped motivate us and I admit I was not the only one who danced along at times. From Adam's hand drawn map to the ones filled with props and terrain collected over years, the table was by far the most awesome I've ever seen.
The adventure had epic highs and nail biting lows as we traversed Kibwe and I know I'm not the only one anxiously awaiting our return to Mwangi. And I don't even want to talk about the slime bucket. Just ick. But it certainly brought the pain of being hit by an ooze into reality.
All told, the marathon was by far my best gaming experience ever and the fact that I get to do it again fills me with joy!

Adam Smith wrote: Speaking for myself, this is the hardest project to let go of, and that includes every Pathfinder project since 2014. Each undertaking has its own story in our real lives, and its own spin inside the game as well.
The Emerald Spire Project tested how many days we could play consecutively toward a goal.
The Giantslayer Endeavor tested how many marathons we could sustain in half a year's time.
The Strange Aeons Experiment tested our ability to adapt to an entirely new genre for us.
The Pathfinder Playtest tested our skill in crunching a new system at the fastest pace imaginable.
The Azlant Odyssey tested our ability to hold a long campaign together despite the real-life events that challenged it. Two babies were born, two new members were inducted, and we tossed an eight-blog playtest into the middle of this AP. In terms of session hours, Azlant was the lengthiest campaign we've ever played, and a lot of that had to do with the amount of activities available to characters during downtime. Yet we found a way to come together again and again, to stand in awe as we opened the chambers of lost Azlant to gaze upon sites unseen for thousands of years.
Now a little something for the Order, you guys know I do this at the end of every path...
Marathon 1: Never forget that hike down the beach that we took as a group out to the end of Long Beach Island, with the lights of Atlantic City in the distance.
Marathon 2: I'd like to take a moment and thank Urgent Care, for providing medical treatment to three OAD members during this marathon. Oh yeah, there was that hospital trip in there too. The Order is more important than any one of us, so we played through.
Marathon 3: We already have a name for this one, and that evil USB chose it: File not found. It's too painful to elaborate on. Safe to say we won't forget it--yet there's nothing there.
Marathon 4: Hands-down one of the top three marathons in OAD history. In thirty-three...
I always love your synapsis posts and this one was better than ever with a look back on all on the projects. Thank you for all of the hard work and effort and for sharing your amazing games!

Thanks for your support both here and with your tasty treats, Karee. I always look forward to eating a blondie or two before Adam eats them all. They help fuel me up before wading into hordes of undersea monsters.
Part 6, here we come baby! Well, then the treats are doing their job. I always aim for the best monster fighting recipes. And lots of blondies are coming so maybe Adam will let you have more than two.

Thank you, OAD, for all of your hard work in completing the playtest! Hearing the horrendous schedule you kept demonstrates your dedication to the game and your efforts are appreciated. Not only that, but each blog was a treat to read and the pictures were always amazing. You have me excited to see the final version of 2nd Edition and I'm looking forward to experiencing some of these changes myself. Thanks again for another great read and for sharing such dedication with the community!

Adam Smith wrote: Fumarole wrote: Great job OAD team! I love the photos. Thanks Fumarole, I'm glad you could come along on another ride with us. I must admit, I'm incredibly happy that so many people like the photos. We have a lot of members, and our roster changes a bit with each project, so the photo team tends to vary a bit. This time it was Erick on editing and myself on the primary camera. We tried to look around at how people were documenting their games in the community, and then approach the shots from a fresh perspective. The shoggoth was actually my favorite one, and a lot went into it: I picked up a desk sculpture of a shoggoth from Ebay, another member (Jody) chiseled it out of the plaster, we put it on a 3x3 base, used several black lights to give it some of the black sheen that Jacobs described in the module, added a small reading light to let some colors appear, and then shot top-down with a 60mm macro lens to throw off the perspective of how big it was.
We've had such a good response about the photos on our own social media as well, that I'm going to add another seminar to our usual two that we run at GenCon every year. The subject of the seminar will be something down the line of what it takes to document your game. We'll use the photos from this project, some of the recent Azlant photos, and even ones from older projects to explain what goes into documenting your own game, as well as how to make some simple improvements that took us a couple of years to learn. It seems like more groups than ever are documenting their games out there, so hopefully it gets some interest and we can help others with what we've picked up over the years.
Stay tuned for an 8th blog: a wrapup complete with behind-the-scenes photos, cumulative data, and reactions. :) It's fascinating to hear what all has gone into making such incredible photos. We appreciate the work and the glimpse behind the scenes. The new seminar also sounds like a winner. Sharing hard earned knowledge can only benefit the game and its participants. Looking forward to reading the final wrapup.

I loved the pictures, particularly the dragon one. It seems as if all of your PCs really has a chance to shine in this. Well done! Thanks, K, there's a huge sense of relief not only having completed the playtest, but also doing it successfully! The dragon fight was definitely an epic one, it's breath weapon was something to be feared. We managed to make it through that fairly unscathed, relatively speaking of course, with a few meteor swarm spells.
I had a blast going through this last part of the playtest, pushing our classes to the limits to accomplish our goals. So glad that you could come along for the ride, it makes the work that much more worth it. WE DID IT!!! It’s been a great ride! I know you all put in a ton of work on this and it shows. I love the fact that you were successful with non traditional classes. You have proven any class can work in the new system. Thanks again for taking us with you!

Now I kind of want my own kraken. Thanks for sharing! Everyone group should have one! If for no other reason than to shout: “RELEASE THE KRAKEN!!”
Thanks for the congrats on the win too! It was really dicey there at the end. My heart was definitely pounding in my chest. An against-the-odds-win following an epic pirate party? Can’t think of a much better way to spend a night gaming. Exactly! Also it's always better to be the one releasing the kraken than fighting it. You're right. Winning, pirates and a kraken--gaming doesn't get much better than that!

Great descriptions of your various tasks! It so simply and effectively demonstrates how your role playing experience is so different from most. While I could see the elaborate set up in your pictures and thus knew it, listing what all it entails really drove the point home for me. Thanks so much for the hard work and sharing it with everyone!
