Had a couple of my games end, and I was actually relieved, as things have been really busy for me recently. With that in mind, I think I'll pass on trying to bring Jynerva to life right now. Thanks for the consideration and good luck as the campaign goes on.

Oh, if the party found out, I imagine it would go quite badly. The character would have been build out of a great deal of deception. If such sharing of magical meals made from people (I'm not sure it would strictly be cannibalism :) ) actually happened, I doubt Jynerva would every tell anyone where it came from... and she would never openly be evil, if she ever was actually evil outside of the Pathfinder definition of some evil acts. Part of the idea was to explore how a character that was not really evil would deal with using power and magic that was labeled as "evil acts" by the system.

I highly doubt the character would actually turn truly evil.

Anyway, thanks for the arc summary, I'll think on it.

Hmm... Well, a lot of Jynerva's potential character development was going to be based on the GM I was working with at the time, and we had plans to develop the manipulations of her Patron, which may or may not have actually been Calistria (or one of her servants), I never knew. The main early development would have been based on her own personal revenge, which I believe the GM had been planning to work into the storyline, although I am not personally familiar with the storyline so I'm not sure how that would have worked.

If presented with the chance to exact her revenge or with an integration of said revenge with a conspiracy throughout Westcrown, further character development might go in any direction. I wanted to explore the more classically "evil" elements of the Witch class, although I'll admit it's been difficult to find people willing to have such an exploration in their game. (I really wanted to bake up some cookies for the team so everyone has some cool stat boosts without them knowing they were eating our vanquished enemies ;) ).

I had her developing the habit of flying around on a scythe instead of a broom, as sort of an angel of death, coup de graceing enemies she puts to sleep in the middle of battle.

All that said, as a replacement character, I could see skipping through the revenge aspect, and have her perhaps recognizing it was unfulfilling, and that Calistria hasn't been the diety with her best interests at heart. Perhaps her patron was actually Desna (or related servant), and the Chaotic aspects of her abilities were in line with her mother's faith and where she needed to go, even if she didn't start there.

I do not currently have time to read a lot of backstory and character development of the rest of the team (I'm taking two versions of the GRE next week) to see how to tweak the idea, but if you guys are not in a huge hurry, I'm willing to work on it with the team.

Ah, yes, this character is not a healer... well, I could tweak her to have healing, but it's more likely you could find an actual healer that could do the job better :). Thanks for looking at her, anyway :)

I'm in Wellard's Jade Regent game, and he said you guys need a replacement player. Not sure what the build would be for replacing, but her backstory would not change in any case. The main thing is she is true neutral, but flirting with evil and chaotic... depending on how you guys think evil acts (such as the cook people hex) can be done based on alignment.

I was planning on playing her as a witch full of cliches, riding a broom, poisoned apples, putting people into eternal slumber, etc ;)... but of course it would depend on how the game goes. Anyway, let me know what you think of the character even if you would rather someone else :).

I apparently don't have time to finish a backstory, so I can't have the time to play another game :). I'll leave this to others.

Jel Camo is being replaced by Jynerva... although I have not finished her story. I'm having some difficulties as I'm kind of merging a couple of characters for an AP neither originally started for :). I will get to it before the deadline.

This was formally Jel Camo. Still planning on Spherewalker, but going to go Fighter/witch/spherewalker.

I'm by no means done with background and such, just the crunch so far. I hope the Cad Archtype is ok, and the alternate racial traits I picked. I figured I'd post it so far so Mark can update his list, and I can make sure this stuff is ok so far.

I know I'm the one that started this whole thing, but I'm going to have to withdraw. I'm going to be far too busy in the near future and I don't want to commit to any new games. Thanks for the interest everyone, and good luck with the campaign.

Updated to Lvl 2 finally. Looking forward to this campaign :)

I don't do chats for games, and have yet to see the need in the few PbPs I've been in.

Yes, sorry, I was busy today as well. I haven't figured out my Level 2 stuff yet, but I will work on it.

I don't mind variations, but I do want to play the story of the AP. I would prefer if people could post at least once a day.

Sorry, I didn't realize there was a whole new forum for PbP games. I opened the thread there.

Here it is

I created this character for a Council of Thieves PbP campaign that I thought would be awesome. Unfortunately, some of the players and the GM had to deal with real life stuff, so the game never got started. I'm looking for a GM that is really interested in a character that is going to flirt with an evil alignment, but perhaps will ultimately come out good.

Currently built with 20pts, a campaign trait, and another trait, average gold, and potentially up through Ultimate Combat stuff available. Not sure I like the idea of Gunslinger involved, but otherwise, whatever the GM might want is fine.

I'd like a game that is active and everyone posts frequently, so lets get it going :D

Down two players and the GM? Bummer :(

Hope things get better for you, Acid. Perhaps we'll play together in the future.

No worries, we can go slow.

I did not have a song in mind for my character, but now I do. Evil smile

John Williams is a favorite of mine, and Harry Potter: Prisoner of Azkaban is one of my favorite soundtracks... I'd say Double Trouble which is the one from the preview and what they actually sing in the film... fits me perfect... kind of upbeat but creepy...

"Something wicked this way comes" indeed :D.

As for an animal, what else could I be but a Cat? :D Unlike Cyn, though, I'd probably be black... maybe with one white paw.

Hey, no worries :). I'll have to think on your questions, though :).

Just saying I'm still here :). Still excited :D

I've got no problem with it.

Jynerva gathers Cyn up in her arms and strokes his head behind the ears. "Well, looks as if we have something to do today after all... So, what do you think, shall I dress to play... or to hunt?" She lets the question hang in the air, awaiting a response.

Cyn looks up at her with a clearly questioning look and makes a small querying meow. Jynerva laughs heartily, "You're right, I guess they are the same thing tonight." She sets him down and prepares for the day, eating a light breakfast and gathering what items might be necessary, but remaining in her pale yellow clothing. She takes only her dagger as a weapon, not wanting to alarm the meeting's attendees... or anyone she might meet on the street.

When she feels adequately girded for this likely adventure, she grabs the still lazy Cyn and places him in his pouch where he suddenly seems more alert as if this is what he had been waiting for. She addresses him happily, "Well, ready to see what Calistria has waiting for us today?" At the mention of the goddess, she says a silent prayer for guidance, and leaves her small apartment.

She and Cyn spend the day idly wandering the streets gathering what information they can find, and making their way towards Vizio's Tavern. They are a bit disappointed to not learn more about their mysterious visitor, but they do learn a bit more about the situation at the tavern by the time they arrive early for the meeting, having little else to do. She enters the tavern, not quite knowing what to expect.

Diplomacy to Gather Info: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19

She will arrive about 3 o'clock, intending to be well situated before anyone else arrives.

Bummer. Rest up, there's no rush :)

Knowledge Local: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14

"I know the place, although I did not know it had reopened." She stares at Cyn, wondering at his behavior. He is certainly taken with this woman. I suppose that should tell me something.

"I shall be there to listen, although I cannot commit to any actions before I know what your plans are," she smiles, hoping to soften the hesitancy. "In any case, it is nice to know there are citizens who are thinking of the safety of our streets."

She pauses, trying to think if there is any more information she might get out of the bodyguard. Not able to think of anything that won't be more easily obtained at the meeting, she heads to the door to escort the woman out.

"I shall see you this afternoon, then."

Sorry, I wasn't up after all, but it was close

Well, she certainly knows more than I would like her to. She's trying to invoke some sort of sympathy given my history... foolish. Although, I could certainly let her think that's my motivation.

Jynerva lets a sympathetic frown cross her face at the discussion of what the dottari and Hellknights ignore. "You are correct, there are plenty of crimes that fall through the cracks..." She moves Cyn off her lap and stands up abruptly. "I believe I will attend your meeting. I assume you will provide more useful information when we have gathered..."

As she waits for the bodyguard's response, she thinks, Heh, worst case scenario I might meet some new clients.

I'll probably be up :)

"Well, it's true that we could always use safer streets, but..." Jynerva pauses, thinking quickly. If she is sincere, then this group she is putting together might provide me with an avenue for further investigation... "Well, I suppose I do have some talents that might help, but I'm not sure I want to be tackling Shadow beasts... How many people are you recruiting for this... meeting? Where and when is it?"

Jynerva contemplates the woman with a pleasant smile, although she is a bit suspicious. A meeting of citizens? Who does she think I am?

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

"I'm sure I'm not an important enough... citizen to be able to do much to make the city... better." Her pauses are deliberate and inquiring. "I'm not sure if you know what kind of business I'm in, but it might not be best for me if I was seen in the company of people trying to stir up trouble with the... establishment."

Her fingers are absentmindedly rubbing Cyn's ears as she ponder's this somewhat strange request. I wonder what kind of people she's inviting to this meeting. It's true that I want to know who's pulling the strings around here but she can't know about my investigations... can she?

DM Acid:

By all means, take control of Cyn when you want to (He's a he :) ). I don't think it will be difficult for both of us to control him and his voice as we want to. I can certainly react if you have him do something I find unusual.

We can play around with it... I'll let you know if I don't like a direction or anything.

Heh, I have +11, but I suppose a 1 still fails :)

Knowledge - Local: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26

Jynerva pauses for a moment. The bodyguard? What could she want with me? Perhaps she is looking for work as well... She opens the door slowly but welcomingly.

"Hello," she smiles warmly. "I am Jynerva. Would you like to step inside?" I probably don't have to worry as she has a decent reputation... but then, so do I. She offers Janiven a seat and sits down herself. Cyn hops into her lap and watches the newcomer with interest.

Hey, sleep is important :)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Jynerva watches Cyn's tail twitching in the early morning light. They had just finished their morning communion. Cyn seems a bit bored today. It's a shame we didn't get anything done last night. The night had been worthless from the start. She had spent some time at one of her normal haunts after having a pleasant dinner, but there had been no evidence of any business. The entertainment had been rather dull.

Cyn had seemed restless at the time, and Jynerva now reflected on his mood. I suppose it's probably me that is restless. We do seem to keep hitting dead ends. They had scrapped business and set out to see if they could find any new leads. The only thing they learned was that some young nobles were coming into town, so perhaps she could get some new business soon.

Jynerva sighs, addressing Cyn, "You can be totally worthless sometimes." She smiles as his tail flicks lazily again. As she starts to contemplate what they might be able to accomplish today, there is a knock at the door.

She glances quickly at Cyn, but he had not even responded. That's unusual. I can't imagine who it would be at this hour. Certainly not a customer. She stands and crosses the small apartment to the door. She clears her mind and makes sure she's ready if there is any trouble. Cyn senses her mood and jumps up, alert, but he quickly feigns a nonchalant indifference. He trots over and hops up onto a small table, watching the door.

Jynerva stands at the closed door and calls out, "Who's there?"

No worries :)

And the decision is.... Dreamwalker. +1 to DCs is too cool for how I want to play. I was thinking about the Divination bonus too, and I got this image of my character over her cauldron using a lock of hair to scry on and follow someone surreptitiously and it fits :)

You guys are no help :P

Sigh... I'm still thinking it over, I'll decide for good when I get back to my computer in a couple of hours. I think about this stuff way too much ;)

nah, no pushing. I had dismissed that alternate trait early on because half of it is the Dream ability, which I don't expect to use. I only questioned that decision at the last minute because I had been looking at all the places for DC boosts.

Well, that's three in favor of immunities :).

I'll switch back to immunity then, as I still can't decide if I think it matters one way or the other.

Both good points :)

I think it's a toss up when it comes to if it really matters in a live or die situation. How often we might all succumb to a sleep effect is about as often as needing 1DC to avoid everyone dying in a fight.

If the rest of the group (or the DM) feels strongly that we need someone immune to sleep, I'll go with that, but otherwise the flavor of stronger sleep spells fits the character (more offense, less defense)... which is always my deciding factor when I can't decide :)

Looking over my character one more time, I realized the alternate racial trait that adds 1DC to sleep effects might be pretty good. However, the immunity to magical sleep is very nice as well, and both fit the character pretty well.

I guess, since I have not played a character dependent on caster DCs, which would be more important? The immunity to magic sleep or one more DC for my sleep spells.

Also, would that extra DC apply to my Slumber hex?

ETA: After looking more into it, I think it's up to DM Acid if it applies to The Slumber hex, as the wording seems to say so, but people want to argue that hexes don't deserve any bonuses meant for spells... which I don't really understand.

I do think I'm going to take the alternate trait though, as it will effect ALL of my sleep spells, and I hope it's rare that things try to put me to sleep :)

I'm excited about getting this story going. I hope my writing is up to the task of entertaining you all :).

DM Acid:

Cool, thanks, I'm all set then.

That sounds right.

Ok, I think I'm set. Only question I have left is the one I asked earlier about the Breadth of experience feat.

Ok, I'll rework to 18max

Thanks, Acid. Still really excited! :)

My concept has moved away from the Assassin/stealth ideas. The story isn't changing, but I don't expect to try to do much melee. Only multi-classing is the possible dip into Sorcerer.

I've updated the stats and skills to reflect this. Haven't double checked things yet, though, so if I messed things up, I'll fix :).

Hey :).

I'm still in flux... I'm going to be concentrating more on spells and hexing than I was planning before... which makes a lot more sense, but it's going to mean shifting some stats and skills again. I may wait to see the rest of the group to see what skills I want to cover.

We've been discussing the feat I picked in a different game, and I wanted to get your opinion on how it operates before selecting it when we start.

The feat, Breadth of Experience, lets me get +2 to all knowledge and profession checks, and to make those checks without training in the skill. To me, particularly with Knowledge checks and my INT modifier, means I can get +6 on all knowledge checks (which makes sense with the flavor of the feat) even without skill ranks with them.

If, for some reason, you want this to work differently, let me know so I can decide if I really want it.

I'm still working on some build ideas, so I wouldn't say my skill set is finalized yet.

I'm looking at arcane trickster as a possible Prestige class... yeah I know I'm all over the place. Thing is it would give levels similar to rogue but still improving my magic. Anyway, still working.

ETA: Hmm, well, that plan might not work too well. I guess it will depend on how things play out. I think I'm set for level 1 at least ;). I only made one skill switch, decided I'd rather potentially intimidate than Perform: dance...

I also had an idea we can talk about, DM Acid, about dipping into sorcerer for the fey and/or the infernal bloodline. It would fit how I want to play witch (bloodline power adds to DC of compulsion and/or charm spells), and it could potentially tie into why people wanted me dead, and who my patron is. But anyway, no need to think about it too much now.

I would say Jynerva lives in Rego Pena, if there's a place that is cheap enough. She definitely wants to be able to find rich clients, but she's going to want to keep tabs on the underworld too, but I figure she can do that anywhere. But to get rich clients, she's going to need to be in a nice area...
