Appearance:
Jynerva is short for an elf. She sometimes can pass for a human if someone doesn't look too close. She is not as slender as most elves but still retains their elegant beauty. Her hair is long and as black as a raven. Her face is soft, although if you look closely she has some faint scarring on her forehead. Her eyes are not as startling as most elves, but are a deep grey that shows little emotion. She is careful to control what emotions she shows. Most of the time she will have a welcoming smile that by all appearances is genuine. Even when showing other emotions, she will craft a face that is appropriate and still beautiful. She has become quite adept at hiding her true emotions, if in fact, they differ from what she shows. She is almost always dressed in pale yellow. Usually a flowing dress or a flimsy shirt and trousers. Around her slender neck she wears a silver necklace with a small wasp on it. When she is expecting action rather than leisure, she will choose a black robe and cloak with a hood that hides her face. In both cases she is never without her familiar, Cyn. Cyn is somewhat small for a cat, with short orange hair and rather large ears. His eyes are the exact same grey that Jynerva's are. He usually stays in a pouch that Jynerva wears over her shoulder across her body. It is generally situated so Cyn can either hide inside or peek out and keep a watch on the world around them. The two are never apart.
History:
"You ask me of my history? Well... I have not shared that whole story with anyone, and you shall hardly be the first. But if you wish, I will tell you some of it. It is a tragic tale, perhaps worthy of a great play. It may in fact disturb you. However, if you are to know me at all, you should hear it." "In my early youth, my father was killed in an unknown battle to reclaim an unknown city from an unknown enemy. That, at least, was how my mother described it. She was a devout follower of Desna and was consumed with a wanderlust that she attributed to the goddess. After the death of my father she took me out of Kyonin and we started to travel the world." "For fifty years we traveled far and wide. I could not tell you all of the places we visited. We met many different peoples and saw many wondrous things. I learned more than I could ever remember about how things worked in the world. I learned how to do almost any job you can think of, as we were always willing to work for food and a place to stay. My mother even tried to get our various employers and friends to teach me anything they were willing to teach for what little we could afford. I suppose I learned a great deal, but it's hard to recall it all at once. I never complained about the chaotic manner of our lives. Sometimes we would just leave, hardly pausing to say goodbye as my mother was ready to move on. Her joy in all new experiences was very contagious, though, and I was almost always truly happy." "At least, I remember that I thought I was happy, and I suppose I really was because my memory tells me I was. However, I do not remember what it feels like to be that kind of happy any more." "Eventually we ended up in Westcrown. I could not tell you why my mother wanted to come here, but we did. It is possible we were only passing through. I have heard from other elves that pass through this city that there are settlements not very far from the city. Despite that relative closeness, I have never felt like finding them. My distant kin would likely call me one of the 'Forlorn' or some such rubbish, but I can't stand the look they would give me when saying it. Sorry, I seem to have wandered off the topic... back to Westcrown. We had only been in the city a short while when life changed dramatically for me." "I'm not sure if my mother was incompetent, or merely foolish. We had never required much protection in our travels. Perhaps it had been divine providence or simply luck... or perhaps Desna provided some divine luck, but we had not had to deal with more than a few dangerous situations over our long period of travel. That changed on one night roughly ten years ago. They came upon the two of us at night when we were out for some needless reason. I believe there were seven of them, but my memory is not clear. We did not present much of a challenge, but apparently we had become a target of someone. When they were finished with us, my mother was lying next to me, dying. She had been beaten into submission and then discarded with a slit throat. She met my eyes but had no energy to even move. I could do nothing. I was not in much better shape. I believe I only survived because they thought I was already dead. It took me months to recover." "A local hedge witch took me in and nursed me back to health. Through the pain and emotional anguish I forced myself to relive the experience over and over in my mind to find some resolution... some path forward." "Do not worry, my friend. It is not all bad. I am here now after all, and I've come to terms with it all... for the most part. Mintrani, the witch who took me in, was very kind. Perhaps too kind for one such as myself... She was willing to teach me her craft, although I'm not sure she is too happy with what I've done with it since..." "I was not unaware of Calistria throughout my life. She is, after all, a popular goddess among my people. I had never given her much thought, though, as my mother was so devoted to Desna. Now, because of my determination to come to terms with what happened, my thoughts were almost always filled with ideas for vengeance. I devoted myself to the Lady in the Room with a fervor that surprised even me. I began, before I could even walk correctly again, to search out those who had destroyed my life. I would not be denied my vengeance." "My developing witchcraft seemed to grow stronger as I focused on vengeance. I am certain that Calistria is guiding my hand, although sometimes I do feel a bit confused at the thoughts that enter my mind when I am attempting communion with the goddess. I met Cyn during this time. Isn't he beautiful? He has become by closest friend, as I suppose is expected..." "I decided that I would remain in Westcrown until I had seen those responsible for my mothers death die by my own hands. I needed a means to survive, so I turned once again to my goddess. I became a prostitute so that I could survive. I had no particular skills, but I was an elf and in this profession that was a rarity in Westcrown, so I was able to make a decent living. My craft helped me in this regard as well." "Aha, I see in your eyes that you do not believe such a living to be... decent. I assure you, my faith has allowed me to find pleasure where others scoff at the idea. It has provided me with a position where I can gather a great deal of information and I have started to peace together a picture I did not even realize was there. I do not now believe it was an accident that my mother was killed and that I was left for dead. I do not yet know the reasons behind the attack, but I know there was someone that put a price on our heads. I have been able to act in secret so far... as I believe they think I am dead. They will perhaps be shocked when my knife slides across their throat. Yes, they may be surprised, but they will deserve it!" "So... that is my story, did you enjoy it? I admit it is a bit depressing, but it is only the beginning of my story. As you are aware, not all is bad here... I can show you all you wish to know about pleasure. As for my story, I will be happy to tell you the rest of it when it happens. I'm sure there will be more pain in it in the future, but then again, there will be pleasure too..."
