In my opinion, it's best to stack the levels for animal companions so that a character has just one animal companion. That's less complex to run, and results in a companion that's more likely to endure/survive what the character'll be facing.

Yes. But can you?

Ok thanks

I would have to agree with TriOmegaZero. There are a lot of changes that are very important and essential to a well balanced game. Some may seem small but keep balance very well. Its also worth getting a refresher on all of the rules. When I read the core book I realized I was doing quite a few things different then even the 3.5 rules, either out of misreading in the past or simply because of the years between readings.

Im having quite an issue. A pc is playing a character who throws oversized rocks and wants to get enlarge person on him. Temporarily this seems ok. But it increases his damage to a ridiculous amount and is going to be extremely hard to deal with. Would it be overboard if I make a ruling that when he picks up rocks they increase in size making them to large to handle with proficiency. Therefore making it more difficult to throw them and having them decrease in size when thrown. Therefore lessening the damage.
Im trying to discourage his enlarge person without just playing god and saying no. Any advice would be helpful.
For all I know, the spell may actually work this way.

NM proficiency

Why two feat slots?

I think i remember now. Feat: Light arcane armor training(-10%), mithral chain shirt(-10% SFC=0

The item uses the save of the person holding it. Which would imply its kinda part of that person. Although i would still allow it since protection from evil is kinda over powered. See. I can be reasonable Ossian

Can't remember specifics. When I get home to the sheet ill hit us the post with the details.

I would say yes. You are not attacking the warded creature.

I play a wizard with an AC of 24 at 6th lvl and no failure. mithral drops the chance by 10th percent i believe

Get mithral armor with armor spikes. And take the defensive shock spell. You should be able to put an end to that.

Logically speaking though, I've never actually seen a spider web connected by two parallel surfaces i don't think. Couldn't that be why the wording was changed? Because it was wrong.

A circle on an angle would make the walls diametrically opposed to the floor. It doesn't state two parallel surfaces. And what if the spell requires material components

If a spell caster is caught in a web spell what are they limited to doing? From my reading they would not be able to cast spells. Is this correct? And can you you use the floor and walls as opposing surfaces?

Thanks to both of you

What if there are 10 summoned creatures and I attack one of them? Are all of the summons then permitted to attack me?

If my wizard has protection from evil cast and is facing an evil summoner, can he attack the summoner without ending the spell effects against the summons?

Can I use the bonus spell slots of higher level to prepare lower level spells that I know? Also can I use scribe scroll to make scrolls of higher level spells that are in my book ?

Huh! Seems kinda silly to be able to do all that work reading, deciphering, understand, and copying to then not be able to use it.

I have a 5th lvl Wizard with an INT of 22. My DM has given me a spell book with spells upto 4th lvl. I can't actually find anything that says I can't copy these into my spell book. If I make all of the appropriate rolls can I do this? And if so, would I be able to cast them? My intelligence mod would allow me bonus spells of that level. Unlike rangers and paladins
" When Table: Ranger indicates that the ranger gets 0 spells per day of a given spell level, he gains only the bonus spells he would be entitled to based on his Wisdom score for that spell level." I can't find this anywhere for a wizard.
"To learn, prepare, or cast a spell, the wizard must have an Intelligence score equal to at least 10 + the spell level. The Difficulty Class for a saving throw against a wizard's spell is 10 + the spell level + the wizard's Intelligence modifier.
A wizard can cast only a certain number of spells of each spell level per day. His base daily spell allotment is given on Table: Wizard. In addition, he receives bonus spells per day if he has a high Intelligence score (see Table: Ability Modifiers and Bonus Spells).
A wizard may know any number of spells. He must choose and prepare his spells ahead of time by getting 8 hours of sleep and spending 1 hour studying his spellbook. While studying, the wizard decides which spells to prepare."

Thank you! So you can see how I would tend to believe that a second companion would come available. Levels of the companions aside .

Reread what "bc" says "if you have more than one animal companion OR familiar". Move the word "or" in the text.

Once again lets look at the actual text from the book. "If a character receives an animal companion from more than one source," . If you can't have more than one companion then why is this text necessary. Also, the boon companion feat from seekers of secrets says you can take the feat multiple times and each time it applies to a different animal companion. I am pretty sure this book preceded any archetype that gave multiple companions. So now that I can back up my argument with material provided by the game makers. Can anyone show me material that says otherwise?

Wearing metal does not break any druid code. Metal is just as natural as leather, all the materials come naturally from the earth. The problem is that it blocks your attunement with the earth itself because of the strength of the material. Therefore you lose your spells, spelllike abilities, and supernatural abilities granted to you by nature itself, not extraordinary abilities granted by the class alone. The end!

The problem is that i am already a level 5ranger so taking packlord at this point is kinda silly. Essentially that's what I'm doing but in a round about way . 2 level 3 companions is 2 level 3 companions no matter what route you use to achieve them.

That's it I'm takin my ball and going home. Things just aren't going my way.

Wearing metal armour doesn't do any of the things in that excerpt.

That wouldn't exactly be stacking then. And yes the paladin mount is treated like a druid animal companion. It says that directly in the text.

Not the domain just the associated powers if they fall within the previous described list. Nice try

No offense but that's seems like an extremely flawed way of thinking. With an archetype you have to take the entire thing. The ranger has an archetype that gives him traps but that doesn't make the hunters traps feats not exist. What if I took levels in paladinand my companion wasn't able to be used as a mount would i just not be allowed to take mount as an option. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

No its an an extraordinary ability. Metal only applys to spell, spell like abilities, and supernatural abilities.

You only get a single 3rd level animal companion. The levels stack for hte purpose of the animal companion, but you dont get more then one.

But I can't find anything that actually says you would not get an additional animal companion.

My character is a 5th level ranger and I'm about to take one level of druid. If I do this the way I figure it is I should then be able to 2 animal companions of 3rd level. If you combine the effective druid level from both classes wouldnt that apply to both companions? Please help?

Also, Where can I find this hell-bred crusader at?

Yes, but do you think using the mount as an additional meat shield and gaining flanking bonus in combat would be beneficial?

I think I'm going Paladin. Melee, healing, and animal companion for an additional meat shield. Plus I think if there is going to be a lot of social interaction it would be perfect and well rounded. Thanks for all the advice.

The real issue though, is that it seems like the party is heavily lacking in the melee department. And any advice I've gotten seems to point to the definite need for a melee guy. I'm beginning to lean towards inquisitor. Suggestions?

If I go paladin, do I have to use my mount as a mount or can I basically use it as a regular animal companion?

My group will soon be starting the Council of Thieves AP and the other players in my group are playing excellent 5th party characters. The only problem with that is there is only 4 of us. No healer and no real melee combatant. They are playing a Gunslinger, a Bard(archeologist), and a Sorcerer/Gunslinger.
I'm trying to come up with a character that can do some serious damage but also help fill other gaps in the party while still keeping some awesome RP flavor.
I was thinking Ranger or Paladin and using the animal companion/mount to deliver even more damage by having a flanking buddy.
Please help! Any suggestions are needed. PRPG and 3rd party material is all we're using, no 3.5
