I see there's a new keyword "local" applied to "check", which I'm assuming means "a check by a character at your location".

Lini also refers to "Animal ally", which is (again, assumedly) a welcome shorthand for "ally with the Animal trait".

It's good to see the "LCG-style" revamp is proceeding. Hopefully it'll work out well with the stores.

New Keywords

Spotted in the playtest cards.

Local = At a your location. Good idea, saves space, easily understood.

-----
Suggestions for Location determination.
-----
Remote = At another location.

Remote Open = At another Open location.

Remote Closed = At another Closed location.

-----
Suggestions for Healing.
-----
Heal = Choose 1 character at your location to shuffle 1d4 random cards from his discard pile into his deck. A card might have Heal(+2) which would equal 1d4+2 cards. Or a Heal(-2) which would be 1d4-2. Non-restrictive case, could heal yourself or another.

Heal Yourself = Shuffle 1d4 random cards from your discard pile into your deck. A card might have Heal Yourself(+1) which would equal 1d4+1 cards. Or a Heal Yourself(-2) which would be 1d4-2. Restrictive case of Heal, yourself only..

Heal Another = Choose 1 other character at your location to shuffle 1d4 random cards from her discard pile into her deck. A card might have Heal Another(+1) which would equal 1d4+1 cards. Or a Heal Another which would be 1d4. Restrictive case of Heal, another character only.

Heal All = All characters at your location to shuffle 1d4 random cards from their discard pile into their deck. A card might have Heal All(+1) which would equal 1d4+1 cards.

Heal could be Local or Remote, but Local is only case I have seen.

Just some suggestions.

Looking forward to the new stuff.

All it took me to make a character/role sheet was time, a computer, and a text editor or word processor.

And, of course, the character cards from the games, the ‘Class’ decks, the ‘Ultimate’ decks, etc.

Over the course of about two weeks, working a couple of hours a day I made 67 character sheets.

I have 51 cards yet to convert to my character template.

That will be the character cards from the four released games and 23 decks.

I have four more decks on order, each with one character in them.

So, 55 character cards left to make. Then I will have a character sheet in my format for every physical character card I own.

Then I need to go through all the errata to update as necessary.

When I am done that will be about 122 character/role sheets in my format.

What is my format?

Easy to create, update, and use was my goal. I think I have hit it dead on.

I do not use images - no copyright or community use problems.

I do not use flavor text - no copyright or community use problems.

I do not use graphics of any kind - printer friendly is the theme.

We are just going to read, and read, and reread the powers and check off a few boxes. Text only and check boxes. Simple is better. And, Larger Font!

My sheets are in Microsoft Word ‘docx’ format. Character base and two roles in one document, 3 pages.

The base sheet is the base character card. The role sheets contain the merged base and role data. You only ever need one piece of paper.

I create a pdf document if I send a sheet to one of the people I game with. That's the scope of my distribution, myself and a handful of friends.

I rearranged the data on the character sheet to be (from the top down) Skills, Cards, Powers. Skills and Card data do not change. Powers change (including errata); being at the bottom powers can grow and shrink as needed without causing any rearranging of the other two areas. Works like a charm.

Once I had template, it was just a matter of music, beverage, time, and typing.

Not difficult at all. Just a little tedious. A side effect is I have carefully read and reread every character card and learned stuff about the characters I might not have learned before.

What's the benefit?

1. I am free of waiting on Paizo released sheets. I can make my own as soon as I get the game/deck.

2. The data is organized in a manner I find more efficient.

3. My sheets are printer friendly using only black, white, and blue (headings only) for everything.

4. Errata can be swiftly applied.

5. New cards can be quickly created.

6. Character sheets can be easily printed as required.

All I am trying to get across is for people to stop expecting to be handed everything, free of cost or effort. Do the work. A little effort and there is no problem.

If that is bad thing, then ok, I am guilty.

I briefly put a copy of my Magus sheets on BGG, but decided to remove them. Reasons.

This thread actually inspired me to do this little project.

THANKS, EVERYONE.

Jim

[edit 1 - typos, mention merged character/role in formating.]

There sure is a lot of whining about character sheets.

1. They are not needed to play the game.

2. They are offered as a FREE EXTRA bit by Paizo.

3. If one absolutely can't play the game without one, maybe the game isn't for you.

4. Paizo is not required to make these available. They are just a FREE EXTRA piece of paper.

5. Make your own. What a concept! I have. Can you type? Took me about 1 hour to make all the Magus sheets. Guess what? They work great.

6. Paizo should focus their resources on the things that make them money so they can make more PACG games.

7. To repeat the obvious, they are not needed to play the game.

Move on.

Let the angry replies begin.

[edit 1: typo, remove last sentence, not necessary.]

Hi Ron,

Regarding God Callers of Sarkoris.

Scenario 3-C
The location lists 1-6 Torture Chambers locations.

The 'During This Scenario' instructions use the Torture Pit location.

The scenario story text uses both Chamber and Pit also.

Torture Pit is one of the Skull & Shackles cards added for the Adventure Path.

Which location card should be used in this particular scenario, WOTR Torture Chamber or S&S Torture Pit?

The story text needs to have all 'Chambers' or all 'Pits' scanned and replaced with the other just for consistency.

General Typos.
Scenario 0-E - Shrine OF Baphomet should be Shrine TO Baphomet.

Thank you for your help and for making this Adventure Path,

Jim Wright

I went with the WOTR Torture Chamber as the correct card. Why? The Chamber gives extra damage. The Pit buries cards.

The name of the scenario is 'In the Pit', so I probably chose the wrong card.

Moving on.

It's the only one that has an updated date because it's the only one that was ever updated, when we revised it for the second printing.

Ok, thanks.

Yep. Use those all the time.

Just looking for things I might have missed. Clarifications buried in posts, etc.

Thanks, Hawk.

Hi Vic,

Could someone please add the last update date to all the files on the rules download page? Pretty please. Rise of the Runelord has one, the rest do not. Thanks!

I try to maintain a "common" rulebook, but I am sure I miss things. Is there a way to search for or list all the rulebook changes without having to scroll through forum entries? Just rulebook changes and clarifications, not card changes or clarifications.

Thank you for your help,

Jim

To answer your question.
The physical PACG rules are rarely updated, usually with the release of a new boxed set and maybe once as a downloadable file between box sets. Updates are done via FAQs which is much better than nothing, but very tedious to keep up with.

To wish upon a star.
What I am hoping for with the projected repackaging of the Pathfinder Adventure Card Games starting with the next base game is this.

The Game Cards and Stuff.
A box that contains the Core Game set you buy once. It contains cards used in every Adventure Path. It contains an introductory Adventure of 5 scenarios, used to learn and teach the game.

A box for each separate Adventure Path game. It contains the cards and tokens and stuff for each specific Adventure Path such as Mummy's Mask or Rise of the Runelords. It contains ALL the cards for ALL the Adventures for that specific Adventure Path from the get go. No more spreading things out over four to six months.

The Character Add-On Deck can remain a separate purchase or be bundled into the Adventure Path box. I consider them a required purchase. I always buy them.

Class Decks remain as they are.

The Rules.
The Common Rules are published as the rules in the Core Game mentioned above. It is supported by Paizo and Lone Shark as a living rule book that one can download at any time to get a more up-to-date version of the rules as needed. All rules are used in all games.

The Adventure Path Specific Rules are published as the rules used only in a Specific Adventure Path game, mentioned above. It is supported by Paizo and LoneShark as a living rule book that one can download at any time to get a more update version as needed.

FAQ
Rules FAQ announcements can continue as they do now, but in addition to the FAQ listing, the appropriate rules PDF will be updated and available for download.

Card FAQ can continue as they they do now.

How about this?

"these cards must have an adventure deck number equal to the desired card’s adventure deck number or one less."

Vic Wertz wrote:

I'm not sure, but I think you may also be using a more restrictive concept of immunity.

The rules for immunity:
If the card you’re encountering states that it is immune to a particular trait, during the encounter, characters may not play cards that have the specified trait or use powers that would add that trait to the check.

So you can't play cards that have the Electricity trait during your encounter with the Shock Toad, and you cannot use powers that would add the Electricity trait to your checks against it. And that's all it means.

Yup, that's how I play it. Thanks, Vic.

I also had a discussion on BGG. I think I understand it now.

----------
From the BGG discussion:

Trait for Checks.
A check HAS the traits of the determined skill, the card that determined the skill, if a card such as a weapon or spell was used, and any cards or powers that specifically add a trait to the check. The card being checked against does not add its traits to the check.

Invoking Traits.
A check invokes a trait if it has or is against a card that has that trait.
A card invokes a trait if it has that trait.
A bane also invokes a trait if it deals only damage of the type that matches that trait.

Invoking a trait is used when specified by a card for some reason, for example to add dice, whatever.

Traits used in a Check have no relation to the Traits invoked for whatever reason. They are two separate things.

Invoking traits looks at both sides of the equation, attacker and defender.

Traits in a check only looks at the attacker's accumulated traits. The defender only affects the attacker's usable traits through immunities.

----------

Reading through Items cards also helped clear things up. There were several cards that used "invoke" in different ways.

Thanks for your help.

NEW: INVOKES

I am confused.

A Shock Toad has the traits: Animal, Electricity, and Basic.

A Shock Toad is immune to the Electricity trait.

I have a Check To Defeat Combat 6 against a Shock Toad.

A check invokes a trait if it has or is against a card that has that trait.

The check is against the Toad which has the Electricity trait.
The check "invokes" the Electricity trait.
The Toad is immune to Electricity.
So I cannot have a check to defeat against the Toad.

What does the word "invokes" mean. In this context I see invokes and implements as the same thing. But I must be wrong.

I am seriously confused. Set me straight, folks. Thanks.

Any ETA on the Mummy's Mask complete deck list, the one for tracking the cards in a character's deck through the Adventure Path?

Thanks for all the replies.

I will treat Scorched Hand as saying: "If defeated by less than 5, you may search for any boons you want in the location deck this henchman came from."

The Mummy's Mask Henchman Scorched Hand card says: "If defeated by less than 5, you may draw any number of the boons in the location deck this henchman came from."

Drawing a card is defined as taking the top card of a face down deck.

What if I draw a Bane? Do I encounter it? Do I ignore it? I am clearly not exploring. I am not examining a deck. I am not searching a deck. I am drawing any number of boons.

I am confused.
