![]() I am not sure where on these boards is the best place to post this, and I have not seen it yet shared, so it seems appropriate to place it here... Steve Russell, publisher and owner of Rite Publishing was killed last night in a car accident. This has been devastating for all of us that knew and worked with Steve. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers. ![]()

You know you’ve always wanted to play a treant, crushing pesky orcs underfoot and casting down wizard;s towers. Now you can, with Rite Publishing's In the Company of Treants. Begin as a young near-sapling and grow your treant as you gain in power until you are one of the true giants of the deep woods. This supplement gives you not one, but THREE playable Treant races, a dozen extensive class archetypes, a paragon racial class, and even an NPC treant class for the GM on the go. Now you can build a variety of treants, starting from 1 HD and leveling them all the way up to 20 HD. Build a treant party and start a treant campaign. This is the book to do it with! ![]()
![]() Upon the horizon the sun begins to sink as the dinner bell of the Jenivere sounds out. The ocean is calm, but over the last few days, an unease has settled on the ship that can't be entirely shaken. Various members of the crew have begun to mutter openly concerning the vessel's course. The first mate, Alton Devers has tried to quell the suspicions, but it is clear that he too is concerned. As the bell finishes ringing, you see the other passengers beginning to make their way to the Captain's Mess. ![]()

![]() This is the Out of Character discussion thread for the campaign. Most out of character discussion, such as questions about stats, rule's clarifications, or chit chat should be poster here, so that the game thread itself is more story and game focused. Go ahead and check in and, when your character is done, post once in-character so I can look it over. ![]()
![]() Quick Background: For Origins my son wanted to run two smurf adventures. We decided to do one with the Toon system for a light-hearted game of horror and one using PFRPG rules for a grittier feel. Of course to make smurf characters for PFRPG it is necessary to create a smurf race. I thought I would share. Smurfs
Smurf characters have the following characteristics.

![]() Though I know that it was already mentioned earlier in another thread, I wanted to make a personal mention of something starting today... Back up a few years and it is 2010 and Steve Russell of Rite Publishing is asking me if I wanted to write up some material for inclusion in this little project called Coliseum Morpheuon, an adventure and campaign setting combined. Due to one thing or another, the project had reached an impasse and Steve needed the adventure finished and finished quickly. I said sure and then received the files that were, to that point, done for the book. What I received was a hodge-podge of essays, locales, some new rules, and a plethora of high-powered, gonzo NPCs that had already been created. The actual adventure was, at that point, only the barest of outlines. Fast forward a couple of days and I had gone from volunteering to writing some filler, to taking over the project and agreeing to finish the book. I started out doing editorial work on the campaign world, cleaning up what was there, arranging it in a sensible order, and filling in what was missing. When that was done, I turned my attention to the actual adventure writing. For a couple of months, work on Coliseum Morpheuon occupied all of my free time, but, in the end, it was a blast to write and a privilege to have been entrusted with the completion of the end product. If I were to never work on any other adventure, I could point to Coliseum Morpheuon and say, “I have been told its one of the best adventures ever written for high level play.” (Not that the field is that huge mind you, but being king of a small pond is still rather nice.) Well, to make a long story shorter, Coliseum Morpheuon continues to live on still today, and not just as an adventure. There was the anthology of short fiction that Steve published for it and I was privileged to have the first story in that collection. More than that, Ben McFarland, Clinton Boomer (whose idea the whole thing was in the first place), and Matt Banach all collaborated together on a supplemental adventure for the setting, “The Rabbit Hole;” and Matt Banach has also worked with Justin Sluder to write about 27 (!) more gonzo NPCs for use with Coliseum in their “Faces of the Tarnished Souk” series. We now come to the next step in Coliseum's journey. Matt Banach is going to write a novel for the setting of Dream and the Kickstarter begins starting today! (Actually I think it managed to get started last night, but it was scheduled for today.) That's right! A whole novel set in the dreamlands, the realm of the Coliseum. On a personal level it is very gratifying to know that a world I helped fashion is going to have its own novel and I think it goes without saying that I'm going to be supporting it here very soon. But personal feelings aside, it's fantastic whenever there are well written novels that tie in with our hobby and I think it would be great to see all of you also supporting this endeavor also. I know that there are a lot of kickstarters going on, and more everyday, and that money is tight for many of us. But this project is special to Rite Publishing; it's kinda' novel (heh) for a kickstarter, and Steve and Matt aren't looking for millions in funding (not but that I'm sure but that they would take any millions you want to throw their way). I am confident that Matt is going to produce a story that is fun to read and opens up the world of dream just a little bit more for all of us. So please chip in something if you can. Thanks! ![]()

![]() Since the other thread did not have a spoiler tag, I'll start one that does. Whipshire said wrote:
The wall of stone sounds like a great plan! It might be cheesy, but it sounds effective and shows you were trying to think strategically, which is good. As far as breaking rules: your GM gets to decide what is allowed or not allowed, but in the spirit of the arena, the event's of the Coliseum should be no-hold's barred, using whatever abilities you have at your disposal. But I would also say, that if the Khan thinks it will make the game more entertaining to change rules midstream, your GM should feel free to have him do so. Which brings us to the apples. If I had been running it, not only would I have allowed the wraith to pick up the apples, but he could have carried them incorporeal through your wall: the apples are, after all, a figment of dream subject to the whim of the Khan (i.e. GM) and can have whatever attributes he wants when he wants them. Everything in the Coliseum Morpheuon is subject to change. There is nothing that says the Khan has to play either nice or fair. ![]()
![]() I like to do Halloween one-shots. Something where there is a good chance of PC death and tensions are high. Which is one reason I was pleased when Michael Tumey suggested releasing Frozen Wind as a halloween promo. But I've already run my family through Frozen Wind and I am looking for something else I can run. So, any of you 3pp have a good adventure for use on Halloween you want to sell me on? ![]()
![]() Kaidan is a land of Oriental horror based on the folktales and myths of Japan and compatible with the Pathfinder Roleplaying game. As I have mentioned a couple of times (or three or four) on these forums, Rite Publishing and Cubicle 7 will be releasing three Kaidan modules this year, with the first one coming in June. I'll be running four Kaidan events (two scenarios twice) at Origins this year. They are... The Frozen Wind: You are a traveler in the mountains, seeking shelter from the dangers of snow and ice in a warm and inviting monastery. Yet, even as you rest, dark forces are at work and you will need all your courage if you are to survive the frozen wind. The Frozen Wind is an adventure set in the land of Kaidan, a new Japanese-based fantasy setting from Rite Publishing compatible with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. No experience is necessary and pregenerated characters will be provided. The Tolling of Tears: The monks of Kinogasa claim their great bronze bell is haunted and refuse to ring it. You have been tasked with cleansing it of its taint before the New Year. But ghosts and spirits abound! Which one is to blame? The Tolling of Tears is an adventure set in the land of Kaidan, a new Japanese-based fantasy setting from Rite Publishing compatible with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. No experience is necessary and pregenerated characters will be provided. For those interested, I'll save you the trouble of finding the event numbers in the event schedule. They are as follows. #6023 The Tolling of Tears (Wed 1 pm)
All events are 4 hours. ![]()
![]() To all my fellow GMs, DMs, Storytellers, Referees, Judges and the like... I would like to wish each of you a good GM's day! Hopefully you get to roll some dice today. Also, I encourage you to take a moment and remember Gary Gygax and the impact he had on your life. Take a moment today to mention him to someone in connection with the way he influenced you. To me, March 4 has become an a day to celebrate the life of Gary Gygax in the most appropriate way possible - by gaming. I encourage you to do the same. :) ![]()
![]() In case you missed it, In the Company of Kappa was released yesterday on Paizo. Kappa, for those who do not know, are small sized turtle humanoids with supernatural strength and a great fondness for wrestling and breaking things (like bones). Adapting the race from Japanese folklore, In the Company of Kappa provides racial traits, class archetypes (cleric, fighter, sorcerer), the bone-breaker paragon class (kappa only racial class 1-20), new feats, and even alternate racial traits. Additionally, a full, in character write-up of the race precedes the crunchy stuff providing a creation myth, comments on kappa society, such as it is, and the kappa worldview. Whether you want ninja turtles or a kappa able to break the legs, arms, ribs and neck of the enemy, this is the book for you. ![]()
![]() For those who have been following this product, the end goal remains the same but our method of getting there has changed somewhat. The Ruin's Perilous is going to be released as a "free" mega-dungeon. The free part includes the text and a map image. Before it can be released however, a minimum goal has to be met to "ransom" it free. The package above is more than what will be released in the free bundle, including a printable map-pack for the room and a color creature token. All the proceeds from the sales of this package goes towards the "ransom" goal. More about ruins perilous can be found at the Rite web-site, including an interview with myself and Tarren Dei concerning the project. ![]()

![]() Someone posting on Troll and Toad facebook today said the newer game had flimsy pieces already starting to warp. I've not had that problem with my older set. Anyone with the new game set want to verify this as I might consider buying this as, though I don't need it for myself, I had considered this as a gift for others this year but don't want to buy something where the pieces are shoddy. ![]()
![]() I received the following in the e-mail this morning and it made me laugh at its gumption and so I thought I would share. ![]() Ditheringfool mentioned leadership and henchmen in another thread and I didn't want to derail it, but it got me thinking: would there be interest in a book or series of books that detailed henchmen for the leadership feat. Basically a book of NPC stats, coupled with personality notes and perhaps brief histories. The idea would be to do one such book say for a cleric with leadership, one for a monk, etc. Or perhaps do it according to alignment or some other defining characteristic. Its just sort of a brainstorm but I wasn't sure how valuable Players or GMS might find such a game-aid and thought I would ask. ![]()
![]() And the PFRPG version of the Living Airship is up on Paizo. I completed the adventure conversion and did the conversion and write-up of the vallorians. The vallorians make a wonderful villianous race and they are fully written up in the module. Appendix 1 gives the racial stats and an overview of their history, society, and racial feats (a key component of their abilities). A second appendix details their "living weapons," flesh crafted weapons and armor that bond with their users granting unique powers. The adventure itself presents a pretty thorough tactical challenge for the PCs as they must gain entrance to the vallorian outpost and fight their way to the top, where the airship is being kept. ![]()

![]() Eight foot long squids are dragging poor fishermen off their boats and chewing them up. Actually, besides the fact that they actually dragged some guys off of boats, what surprised me was learning these animals hunt in schools of 1000! ![]()
![]() Due to the necessity of buying another vehicle I'm having to make some cuts elsewhere. Therefore would you please cancel my module, companion and chronicles subscriptions. I will be keeping my other two subscriptions though and hopefully, in a few months will be able to add back in one or two. Thanks in advance. ![]()
![]() I find myself a little stuck and so I am seeking help from the knowledgeable: What OGL books feature monk prestige classes? Specifically, non-spellcasting, non-psionic monk prestige classes? Are there any such books in particular you would recommend. WotC books won't do - they have to be OGL. Ideally I am looking for a monk prestige class that features a monkey fighting style. Any help in pointing me in the right direction would be very much appreciated.
