Murder? The Varisian bard says with a raised eyebrow. That is a serious situation indeed. We'll see what we can discover right away. Before we go, was the information in the letter true or did the team discover that the information was false? Diplo: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23 I've never been but I do know that Tobias Luin is both the village’s sheriff and mayor. Local opinion holds that he is fair to the point of being soft. It would be unusual that he would hold an execution, but local law calls for a vote of the citizenry to decide the fate of those guilty of capital crimes such as murder. Ooh, Ninja'd. Can I assist a knowledge check instead so we nail the DC 25?

Jarrin smiles at the cleric. No, you are quite right. He told us plenty. However, a little bit of distraction from me can always be helpful to the one asking the real questions. And you never know, he might actually answer. The bard then sighs and looks at his female friends. Look, I'm no hero of the people. What I wanted to do was done days ago. I'm not interested in politics, that stuff is for you guys to sort out. We came to do a service for the commander and we have done so. I really don't care how we do it as long as we have. Let them figure out what to do.

Did I ever get a Sense Motive result for the halfling, etc? He still hasn't told us anything about this Villa. Are you going to let him off the hook that easily, Ashi? You are doing so well, why stop now? Jarrin almost seems to be teasing the cleric, or is it testing? This girl certainly has some spunk, I'll give her that. Truly a leader whether she wants to admit it or not. I woulnd't mind having a closer look at that nice shortbow. And those arrows seem special also. Any objections?

Jarrin comes back down the stairs. So, where's The Villa? After the mention of the Skullcrackers, he then adds Well, suppose you did know something about the Skullcrackers. What is it that you would know? I thought we were friends now, we shouldn't be keeping secrets.

Jarrin continues to watch the halfling and the former guards as they tell their tales. Sense Motive, Verik: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Ashimar and Cedric seem to have all this under control. The bard wanders toward the stairs. If they have nothing to hide then I'm sure we can go check the place out. I think I'll go take a look around upstairs. As stated, Jarrin will go up the stairs and will see what he can see. Nobody's hiding up here or anything are they, fellas? Jarrin yells down from the top of the stairs. Just want fair warning.

Jarrin, seeing the halfling may need aid, will nervously step over to the reefclaw and attempt to stab it with his rapier. I can't let that thing have its way with the little fellow... Rapier: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Damn, we don't have Bless or anything, huh?

Realizing that firing arrows into combat isn't going to be effective Jarrin switches to his rapier and tries to aid the party with the lobster-like creatures. Move to L13 and flank with Cedric. I believe I have to drop my bow in order to draw my rapier and move, correct? Rapier: 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 1 + 2 = 21
 Crit Threat: 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 1 + 2 = 15
Jarrin stabs decisively into the reefclaw, giving the creature a serious wound.

I would have moved to P8 considering we were trying diplomacy. So much for that for now! Jarrin will attempt to Fascinate the man that Cedric did not attempt to attack. DC 14 Will save Wait! There is no need for.... aww, ummm, well, its not too late to talk, is it fella? You really don't want to do anything stupid now, do you?

Jarrin coughs and sputters as the sights and smells in the killing room is quite unpleasant to his senses. Yes, please, lower your weapons. No need to get all excited over this. As the lady said, we just need to take a quick look around and we'll be out of your way. Though I must ask... what's in the bag? Aid Tolenn: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10 How big is the bag?

Jarrin enacts Careful Teamwork before the group proceeds to open the door and go inside. OK boys and girls, lets try to keep aware of everything while in this place. Who knows who or what might be lurking inside. If we're lucky we'll find what we need to know and get out without anyone suspecting a thing. All allies within 30 feet gain a +1 bonus on Initiative checks, Perception, and Disable Device checks for 1 hour. I understand you concerns about family and such, you can trust me on that. I had my own investigation going at one time but it was not until I met these fine people you see here that I was able to finally get the answer I sought. Jarrin looks at the group as he mentions them, one both of growing respect and appreciation. Turning back to the Field Marshall the bard gives a charming smile and says, So, whatcha got for us?

Well, I, for one, hope that the title would indicate we are to be used for special reasons. I don't think they would intend to use us as patrols. I was rather hoping that we might be used for investigation. I'm not sure if my father had a chance to talk to you about what I spoke with him about but I believe that we would have the skills to assist you where others under your command may not. Is this what you have in mind?

Jarrin's face brightens as the offer of Special Agent is made. I guess I no longer need to worry about my dad talking to the Watch anymore. The bard accepts the offer without additional thought. I am also quite thankful for the honor. Thank you. Perhaps now both my life and my new-found friends will have a true purpose and direction now that we are in the employ of the Queen. This could be exactly what we needed.

Jarrin decides that keeping quiet would probably serve the party best, letting the likes of the paladin and the cleric present the party in the best of light. He will instead watch Sabina for any hint of deceit or discomfort during the process of the audience.

Thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to help us with our request. Your words will be heeded, though these new friends I have made have helped me see the world in a better light in these last few days. I would not have had the pleasure of making your acquaintance otherwise. Diplo: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20

Don't take me so literally, you should know better. Jarrin laughs. However we do it, we just need to take the most direct route possible. Which of you would that be? Yeah, I typed that it a bit of a rush. Sometimes what's in your head doesn't come out well on the keyboard. I've done that before with names already.

I think we should all just go straight to the queen with the brooch, and do it now. I see no further reason for any delay. Jarrin states bluntly. We are going in too many directions at once. Dealing with this problem should be quite simple. See the queen, give her the brooch, she does her royal song-and-dance, and we go on our way. After that we can decide to chase mysteries.

Jarrin will listen to the woman's tale and Sense Motive, just because: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15. After which he will wander into the empty flat and look around, seeing if anything might be slightly out of place (perhaps a floorboard, a piece of furniture, anything of the sort). If we have some time I'll take-20, if the time needed for that is restrictive I'll use Perception on the rune: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12 and Perception searching the flat: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19 instead.

Leaving the lamp shop Jarrin gives a look to Ashi and Ellis as if to say, Hey, it wasn't my idea to begin with. Well Cedric, you wanted to check him out. Pretty much as expected I'd say. Not sure what you were looking to find but if you wanted something in particular you could have spoken up. Don't be so shy. The bard then listens to the suggestion of checking on the rune. I'd be happy to tag along. A few extra eyes can't hurt. However, I believe once we leave there we should get rid of our prize as soon as we can. I'd rather not risk any more encounters over it.

Oh, one last thing. Orem. You wouldn't happen to know anything about the two ladies that were murdered by your favorite hangout, the Crimson Medusa, would you? I know you have your ear to the ground so I was hoping that the next time I see my dad I might be able to impress him with some information on the subject. Got anything I could tell him that might be useful to the investigation? Did you know those ladies? Jarrin will watch to see if the mention of the murders changes his demeanor and such.

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16 Nope. The Queen? Oh, sounds like you mean the previous "owner" of your brooch? Jarrin says as the shopkeeper finishes his speech. Quickly continuing, the bard announces, So you didn't send a visitor to our humble abode, and it seems we do not have anything to give you for that 300 gold. I suppose that means our business here has concluded. Jarrin looks to the group as if looking to see if they have anything more to add. After a quick glance at Ashi, JArrin speaks again, I guess we can be on our way now. Unless, of course, you have anything else to to say, Mr. Menach? Jarrin turns back toward the gnome as if expecting him to say something more.

I did say "our", not "my". Try to recall again. Not that it matters, the man in question was asked to leave. Jarrin doesn't wait for any type of reply. What is this brooch really worth to you? Jarrin bluntly asks. I'm not saying we have it, but I can assure you that I do not possess it. However, it might help if you could describe the brooch that you lost. Maybe we could help you find it. Sense Motive, if applicable: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26 If you need me to make any other checks feel free to make them for me.

Yes, I'm the son to my father but I do not work for the Captain. There is a difference, sir.Jerrin chuckles slightly then decides to get more to the point. A collector? Ah yes, I see. Is that why you sent a midnight caller to our residence, to obtain another prize for your collection? Jarrin looks at Cedric, then Ashimar, and then back to the gnome. I didn't get to meet him personally.
