Just thought this could be a good way to work out the number of submissions!

Know my item is in the wrong format (blame that on a night at the pub before I wrote it up) just want to know what else is wrong with it.

Bag of Surreptitious Switching:

This backpack, designed to look like an ordinary non-magical black leather rucksack has the ability to duplicate any other nearby container.

As a free action, the possessor of the Bag of Surreptitious Switching can transform it into any other visible container of fine to large size within 30 feet. The container’s visual, auditory and olfactory and weight components are perfectly duplicated. The container’s contents are also seemingly duplicated, as via Major Image. The effect lasts for one hour, until someone attempts True Seeing, or removes an item from the Bag.

The Bag of Surreptitious Switching allows the user to palm any container up to his own size using Slight of Hand, provided the unattended container is replaced with the Bag of Surreptitious Switching. The DC for the attempt remains the same. The Bag may also be used in an attempt to lift a small container for a creature. The Bag gives a +10 competency bonus to the Slight of Hand check provided the Bag is left in the possession of the previous owner.

Moderate illusion; CL 6th; Craft Wondrous Item, Major Image; Price 2500gp; Weight 2 lb.

What's that like 25 degrees Celsius or something? lol I don't know, it's warm though and I like it :)

Almost, 23.88 recurring, so a pretty good guess ;-)

What color would you say is the most appropriate for each of the schools of magic?

I would not 'tie' any colour into a school of magic, but have the colours as symbols of status that go like this (in ascending order)

Black (lowest)
Red
Orange
Yellow
Green
Blue
Indigo
Violet
White/Rainbow

Thus the changing colours would be a constent indicator of shifting powers within the council.

One that just suddenly occured to me:
HORN OF RICK-ROLL

DESCRIPTION
This cursed horn appears to be a Horn of Valhalla until blown by someone with ranks in Perform (Wind insruments). Once it is blown however, only the sound of never gonna give you up is emitted from the horn, regardless of what sound was attempted. Anyone except the performer within 30ft must pass a DC 15 Will save or be affected as by a rage spell. Deafened creatures are immune to this effect.

I personally prefer to make my own roles, but feel free to make them for me if it will hold up the game too much. I like to roll the dice that kill me.

Male (probably) Human (just) commoner 3

I think I know my mistake, I've put reistance as a 1st level spell rather than an 0-level spell. My mistake, will correct as soon as possible.

Male (probably) Human (just) commoner 3

Oh yes...independance day, that glorious celebration when the British were beaten by the French :-p

Male (probably) Human (just) commoner 3

Wow, that sounds pretty good. I don't have the guide to Korvosa, so can you tell me where the cheapest place to live is?

Male (probably) Human (just) commoner 3

Male (probably) Human (just) commoner 3

lol indeed. You're divine challenge to one kobold while training to forcibly remove the brains from the skull of the other one , reminds me of the lyrics "We come in peace, shoot to kill, shoot to kill, shoot to kill!" :)

Male (probably) Human (just) commoner 3

ah, oops, I just read what a wanted to read clearly. I just find the image amusing of a giant reptillian holy knight going "By bahamut's wrath I challenge you!"...then striking the other ememy next to him.

Male (probably) Human (just) commoner 3

It wasn't really serious, just idle speculation anyway (I just like the idea of solving puzzles, but I don't have to actually go through with the solution of them :D) and besides, he needs some new boots first!

Male (probably) Human (just) commoner 3

Bah, everything is more expensive when you're alignment is good! ;^)

Male (probably) Human (just) commoner 3

This is exactly why I asked if someone else thought it would be appropiate to ask. My character would *not* know such things, but I think it reasonable that a character with divine knowledge would. I don't want to get into a metagaming discussion here, but personally I think that as long as one character would be expected to know how things go, then it is reasonable to discuss mechanics in a OOC thread. That's basically what the thread is here for after all.

Male (probably) Human (just) commoner 3

As a side note, the only spell I found in the PHB (haven't checked any other sources) that might give us amnesia dude's name directly is 'Contact Other Plane', a 5th level arcane spell unfortunately.

We might be able to ask the cleric for a 'Diviniation' spell asking "Where, within a week's travel, would be the best place to search for this guy's name" but it probably won't come cheap. 505gp from this 12th level cleric assuming we don't get a discount. We could ask about it, but I would prefer someone else to do it, since my character is not especially devout and his knowledge of divine magic would be very limited.

You'll have to forgive me since it's not my character, but I didn't think that's how divine challenge worked. I thought divine challenge meant you had to attack the one that you challenged or you lose the challenge. (PHB p91) meaning that if you're challenging K3 you probably should be attacking K3 or vice versa.

Male (probably) Human (just) commoner 3

Did Brianna or A'loran's attacks bloody either of the kobolds? If not, it's going to take a while to drop these guys...

Male (probably) Human (just) commoner 3

Oh yes, I need to add a divine focus, so I'll add a sprig of mistletoe to my items.

Male (probably) Human (just) commoner 3

Do we add the post when it's our turn or would you prefer us, just to post our action when we can and for it to be dealt when it's our initiative?

Male (probably) Human (just) commoner 3

No, it's ok, it seems to be working now. :-)

When I'm bored, I'll probably fiddle around with it and see what it resembles most. My best guess would be a fictional yet actual language, like Tolkein's Elven or Klingon

Male (probably) Human (just) commoner 3

Unfortunately, I don't think it makes sense for me to have any connection with any other PC's in the city. I only arrives about two months ago, and the only people I've had regular contact with are the renegade druids and Gaedren. Even after 2 months, poor Tanrob feels so alone in the city *cry*

Male (probably) Human (just) commoner 3

I love the translator. Thanks a lot for finding that! I also read the post about the Draconic battle phrases, I will definitely use those and if I think of better ones I will let you know.

I can't see the map at the moment, it says that the site is down for maintenance, is this just me?

Male (probably) Human (just) commoner 3

indeed, the story can't really progress without him. So I imagine until mittean turns up, we can essentially use this time to get used to the personalities of our characters.

Male (probably) Human (just) commoner 3

Oh, and I think that Voran seems to be best as the people person. My character is meant to be bright and have a sharp wit, but often he doesn't rub people the right way. Too much time among elves means that Aravilar doesn't understand that it isn't really polite to deliver subtle insults if you're annoyed with someone.

Aravilar would fit better in an adviser role, but he's not wise enough to know that, and so he just annoys people when he speaks up. He's good and fights for those that can't, but he's not especially 'nice'

Male (probably) Human (just) commoner 3

It may just have 'eaten' it, Paizo does that on occasion (it did it to one of my posts).

Assuming not, click on 'my account' at the top. The under alias, click of Eren (*not* edit). Then on the page click 'click here to create a profile' then enter it and click 'save changes'

Male (probably) Human (just) commoner 3

It is a point to remember to check the thread just before you make the post. I added a post that became irrelevant so quickly deleted it. I hope you don't mind that.

Male (probably) Human (just) commoner 3

oh yes, apologies to cwslyclgh for possibly stealing his thunder. I thought bluff would be the best way of out the weapons scenario, (and plus what Aravilar would want to do, partly to annoy the sergeant, partly to help his new friend). However, I do appreciate that I may have hogged the limelight a little there for that, instead of letting you bluff your way out instead. Let me know if you want me to stop doing that.

I'm not sure who has the statistics to be the face of the party, but I certainly don't mind being the party bluffer ;^)

Male (probably) Human (just) commoner 3

It's always going to be difficult to judge over just a couple of days, since people's availability to post ebbs and flows. I was completely unavailable for about a 28 hour stretch during the weekend, but fortunate to get back home just shortly after it actually started.

Male (probably) Human (just) commoner 3

I've assumed that everyone except asher is now in the same room at the moment. Though that is a bit of a leap of faith, does anyone mind me asking if that is indeed the case?

I've been a bit of an idiot really. I missed the bit where you said you were doing 3.5 instead of PRPG. *headdesk!* In that case, I'll stick with the druid but go for a different race, either elf or dwarf probably, I'll look at a couple of builds. and post it up probably tomorrow afternoon.

Cry Havoc! wrote:

Well, if Demidian is willing to switch over to a rogue, the druid would be an important part of the party, as the sole divine caster. So, that would work.

However, you should be aware that a very large part of this adventure path takes place in an urban environment. So, some of the druid's abilites are not likely to be of a great deal of use. Food for thought.

I realised that from reading the free Korvosa guide (and that also Druids are not well liked). However, I do like both the roleplaying potential of squaring off against the renegade Druids, and the dichotomy of the Druids primary weapon being one normally used against the forest.

I would like to give it a try, but I apologise in advance if my inferiority to the cleric gets people killed.

What I meant was that bards don't *need* proficiency with all instruments, since they can acquire any instrument that want on demand. You may as well just petition your DM for more proficiency since it makes zero difference from a mechanical point of view.

We could set up a thread in the PbP discussion forum for OOC discussion. Anybody, I hope everybody has a fun game!

Sorry about the lateness of the reply. Been out since Saturday evening. Thanks for the invite!

The only two classes that I really don't want to play are Rogue (played too much of them recently) and Bard (I don't really like them even in PRPG). If half-orc druid is out, my next choice would be Elven Wizard (cliché I know, but nyeh). Followed by Dwarven Monk, and finally Human Paladin. (Idealy I'd like the half orc druid but I appreciate how it might mess up the party balance)

Let me know what you think would be the best fit.

While it adds a nice roleplaying feel, having that isn't necessary mechanically because of the spell Summon Instrument. Plus, skill in once type of performance means it's more likely, but not mandatory, that you can do other stuff. Like Quentin Tarintino has plenty of ranks in Perform (direction), but unfortunately lacks Perform (acting).

I would probably work it like a favoured enemy scenario. At 1st 5th 10th 15th etc you get a +2 bonus to one perform and a +2 to a new type of perform. (It might require adjusting the DCs to keep balance). That way you are clearly more proficient in one area but can dabble in the rest.

I like to think of the axe as 'karmic justice' :-D

I reckon a "leave the trees alone" while wielding a greataxe should also get a bonus to intimidate ;^)

Well, there are probably too many for me to join in now, but if not I wouldn't mind playing a Half-Orc Druid under the PRPG rules. I just like the idea of a druid wielding a greataxe :-D

background - meta'Chris this encorporates some Madresh stuff so let me know what you like and want to change.

Wow! I think I want to keep all of that, thanks a lot Heath! You put my backstory to shame. I think I should add to mine a little though.

Spoiler:
Madresh, despite his speices fierce reputation, is actually quite mellow outside of combat. He is particualrly interested in learning about his companions and what they can do.

Though he believes that tactics is secondary to inspiration on the battlefield (fire on the heart is better than words in the head, old dragonborn saying); he is nevertheless interested in getting his compatriots ideas on how they should do battle, so that no-one needlessly loses their life.

Madresh bears no particular hatred to the Eladrin. On the contrary, he admires their battle prowess, and the skill of their tactics, even if they occasionally lack honour.

Madresh is also curious about warforged. He has caught many references to them throughout old battle tomes, but he is unfamiliar with them face to face. He wants to know if they are as deadly as the legends suggest.

He has no special attitude towards halflings, apart from mild disapproval at their sneaky tactics. Still, he repects how deadly one can be with the correct application and hopes to teach his village the idea of stealth (since Madresh himself has no truck with it, neither does 99% of the village either)

Ok, definative version (unless you have some major problems with it, the only things altered are the backstory (to try and tie in with the Vast) and Removal and replacement of the magic item (Cloak of Resistance for a Bag of Tricks)

Spoiler:
Aravilar was born into a noble elf family as the second son. His father expected him to take a career in the church, as the firstborn had his own responsibilities. Aravilar however, preferred to train himself in the art of swordplay, and especially duelling.

When he reached maturity, his father offered him an ultimatum, join the church, or leave the forest. Aravilar decided to strike out and find his own path, dreaming of one day starting a school for aspiring young duellists. However, along the way, he wishes to use his swordplay for good, especially against the Orcs, who in a raid of Sendvilar, a village on the river Lis, took the life of his mother. Beofre she died, she tossed a Bag of tricks (DMG page 248) to him, screaming, "Run! Become who you were born to be!"

While Aravilar feels that duelling with a rapier is the purest of arts. He has seen to many times what happens when honourable fighting is take too far. He compromises by fighting with a kukri as well, determined to show those of evil no mercy and swift death with whirlwind blades.

Aravilar is tall and slender, with raven hair and a beard to match. His face is one of constant calculation, though he is easily distracted, whether by new fencing techniques, or rumours of Orcs in the local tavern. When drunk, he all too frequently offers challenges with his blade, especially to Orcs.

Ok sorry about that, here I think is all the stuff that is missing:

Spoiler:

Dragon Breath (strength based, Acid)
You're right, I did miscalculate the gp and hp remaining, not quite sure how I did that :-S)
Basic Attack Melee (Battleaxe):
Strength vs AC: Strength check (1d20+6) damage 1d10+4
Basic Attack Ranged (Sling)
Dexterity vs AC: Dexterity check (1d20+2) damage 1d6

Background:
(This may conflict with Kava's account, once I've looked at that I'll alter mine accordingly)
Madresh and Kava, although born of different broods, have been friends since hatchhood. Kava was born from the brood of a famous Warrior and defender of the tribe however, while Madresh was born to a lowly farmer. A necessary job, but looked down on by the honourborn race.

When they reached 15 war was declared on a local Eladrin village. Objectively it was nothing more that a couple of skirmishes, but for the dragonborn youth, it was a chance for honour and glory.

While on the battlefield, Madresh was shocked at the ineptness of the commander (this was only a small village). His tactics and inspiration were all wrong. while I respect his seniority, this is going to get us killed thought Madresh.

This almost happened as Madresh was run through with a longsword, and it was only the quick actions of Kava that saved his life. Madresh vowed two things from that point on. He refused to see poor inspiration and poor tactics get his friends killed, even if he had to take that role himself.

Secondly, he now has a 'shell debt' to Kava. By the customs of the village, any dragonborn who owes their life to another gives them his shell, and only gets it back by repaying the favour twice over. Madresh felt no resentment at this, more, an eagerness to earn the respect of his friend by doing this. He set out to wherever Kava would go, waiting for an opportunity.

Ok, reading all of that I think that A cloak of Resistance is pushing it a little. So I'll go for Bag of Tricks (Grey). This summons a small animal (similar to familiar types of creature) for 10 minutes, 10 animals/week.

So add this onto my backstory:

Spoiler:
Aravilars last memory of his mother was (in the flames of what was then his home) her screaming in pain. She then gritted her teeth however, and threw Aravilar this strange grey bag.
"Take it!" she screamed. "Take it, run and become who you were born to be!"
Aravilar's father leter explained that it was a bag of tricks that had saved the lives of countless Eveningfall's and that eventually, it would help one of them save the world. Aravilar wondered if it would be him...

Mittean, am I right in thinking that you haven't included the strength and Con bonuses of your Warforged Warlock? It does look a genuinely interesting character to roleplay though!

Prankster, I'm still fiddling around with my build at the moment. But yes, I would like a shared background. I suggest that we both post ours independently, then steal and share the best bits to tie them together. I should get the Warlord up in a couple of hours.

My name is Chris, from Cheshire, England, so we're going to run the whole gamut of timezones in this one.
