Hey guys,

I wanted to be very upfront with you all and tell you that I will be withdrawing Igmar from the game. I had a handful of recruitments finish over the weekend and I was accepted into this game and another and have a personal rule to only participate in one game at any given time. So it was with much, much hardship that I decided to go with the other game.

Fear not, however, in knowing that I have been very transparent with Olmek on this matter and that he has assured me he has a suitable replacement in mind. I'm sorry for this, but am glad that I was able to withdraw before any significant gameplay has been had. I'm hoping that will ease the transition of introducing another character.

I hope all of our paths cross again and look forward to the change of playing with all of you on these boards sometime in the future. You can't imagine how truly hard this decision has been for me, it has been eating me up over the last few days. I hope there are no hard feelings.

Good luck and all the best in your quest to reclaim Dammerhall!

Kyle

Very cool Bali.

Igmar is your basic switch-hitter ranger (my first time actually playing one). He will be a front line two-handed melee combatant at level one, branching out into ranged/melee tactics as needed in subsequent levels as his combat style feats kick in. He is a drow killing machine with his bonuses from favored enemy, ancient enmity, and foeslayer. I highly anticipate if/when we start encountering them.

I'm not really sure what to expect of him as we get to the base-building aspect of the campaign. I'm assuming he will be spearheading the patrols aimed at maintaining the security of our borders. In other words, the first of us to perish in glorious combat :)

Dotting in. Thanks for the selection!

I agree with everyone's thoughts pertaining to the gameplay thread. I'm also not sure exactly how paranoid I want to play Igmar just yet. I want that to develop naturally over the course of the game, if I am selected, of course.

Igmar's background is complete. Let me know if you want something more extensive and I can work on fleshing him out a bit more.

Impassioned by the heated exchange, Igmar steps up beside Pravic,

”Aye! Ye can count me among the dwarves that be with ye!”He boasts, giving Pravic a hearty clap on the back. ”We need to take back our hallowed halls so that we can finally drive the black menace back into the holes from whence they came!” His mention of the Drow sends his blood boiling…

“Dwarves may be slow, aye, and we may have made similar boasts in the past, but I’ll be damned if we’re going waste away on the surface while creatures of the deep desecrate the stones of our ancestors. Iffen we set our mind to something, we don’t rest until it gets done!”

”Aye, we must give our due respect to the council of our elders, but a plan is what we need. We may be dwarves, but we are not blind as to not see when we’re being unwise. A dull pick breaks no stone. A change of course is what we need!” His eyes narrow as he surveys the room, ”But is there a dwarf here among us that will put our boots to march. That will have the songs of our ancestors ringing in the halls of Dammerhall once more?” He looks down at his hands, unclenched and, he realizes, desperately lacking a full tankard of ale, ”Of that, I cannot be certain. But have no doubt, I would be honored to be the one to shepherd their descent into darkness.”

Haha, yeah definitely pay more attention to the classes than my arbitrary categorization of the submissions. There's definitely a lot of competition for the melee slot(s). Luckily, I'm going for a switch-hitter ranger, wink, wink GM :).

Quote:

"Igmar, my friend, please relax. I know that eyes of us who have traveled the deeps have seen a lot and we cannot help but see danger everywhere we look, but you have to keep it under control tonight. A great dwarf has left us, and on this day we need to pay him our respect."

He lays his hand friendly on his shoulder and continues as an afterthought:

"Furthermore, it is not proper to offend warriors of the lord like that. I am sure they would not let any drow get anywhere near Magnar. Try to relax and lets pay our respects as it should be"

Igmar looks down at the hand on his shoulder with a fiery glare, but after a few moments his eyes soften and his tense shoulders relax, causing him to lose a few inches in height.

"I di'nt have no intentions of offendin' the dead, aye," Shifting his weight he takes a moment to tap the ashes out of his pipe, before reaching into a pocket and refilling it from a sticky burlap pouch. He pops the unlit pipe back into his mouth, clenching it between his yellowed teeth, before continuing, "But iffen ye think those devils haven't come that close to the surface, just ask my men what they think o' that! Their screams keep me awake most nights, ye ken?"

He pats Davros on the back as he walks over to the newly tapped keg, awaiting his turn at filling his mug. The long pull leaves a dark tan ring of foam around his mouth, which he doesn't seem to notice. Surveying the room, he takes in the other dwarves as they laugh and sing and celebrate and he finally gives into the fact that this is not a time for accusations or sorrow, but a time for celebrating a dwarf that embodied what all dwarves of this age aspire to be. Caught up in the moment, he takes his turn lifting his deep voice in a song of remembrance:

"Father of Creation
King of Kings
From the depth of stone we call

Heed our song
Fill our hearts
In the name of Magnar Tharnhammer we call

Speed our hammers
Guide our axes
As from the shattered halls we call

For ahead is the test
Plentiful times are past
In the name of Magnar Tharnhammer we call"

A light-haired, dark-skinned dwarf leans against wall of the meadhall, supporting his weight with the butt of a chipped and weathered greataxe, no doubt having seen more than its share of conflict. The hood of his cloak hangs low, shading eyes more accustomed to navigating the tunnels beneath their boots. His eyes glow like dying embers from within the depths of his shaded visage, matching their glow the ember at the end of his pipe brightens as he takes a long pull, exhaling the smoke from the corner of tight lips drawn over clenched teeth.

”Ack, these dwarves! Fools, all of ‘em!” He mutters to himself, slowly shaking his head. ”Some may accept the fact that ‘e died old and content in his warm bed, but they’d be wrong, aye.” Despite his grumblings to no one in particular, his voice was beginning to rise, drawing more than a few stares. ”I’ve seen puncture wounds like ‘at ten times over, and that’s no prick from a bloody rosebush, no. Those black terrors down belows what did it. One of them darts from their blasted handbows, I’ve no doubt!”

I'm playing up the paranoid angle a bit with Igmar, due to his past run-ins with the Drow. Unfortunately, I probably won't be able to post again until tomorrow, but please feel free to question his wild claims :)

Wow, so far we have a Warpriest, Monk, Ranger, Wizard, Rogue, Investigator, and Paladin. Seems like the perfect party, lol.

GM, can you provide any information as to where on Golarion/Avistan this entrance to the Darklands is? Purely for background/fluff purposes, of course.

This will be sixteenbiticon's alias. Still heavily under construction, obviously.

Is it safe to say our characters have prior knowledge of the Drow? All of these anti-elf feats/traits/abilties wouldn't make much sense otherwise, hah.
