Hobbe will re-orient the cannon and load it, preparing to fire again.

Targeting the creature and reloading with Bogrun.

OH! I apologize, I didn't realize that my turn was up. Am I to understand that it passed us?

AC 38, touch 34, flat-footed 21; hp 224/224; Fort +21, Ref +29, Will +14; CMB +23; CMD 55; Defensive Abilities improved uncanny dodge;

I think having to move around it would be fine. Since it seems to be stupidly tough with butt-tons of HP, I think we need to have more battlefield control effects for the next one. Also, suppress regeneration. I could Con Bleed these things if they didn't have a magical healing effect stopping my bleeds.

AC 38, touch 34, flat-footed 21; hp 224/224; Fort +21, Ref +29, Will +14; CMB +23; CMD 55; Defensive Abilities improved uncanny dodge;

Never played a PBP above level... like, 6?

In 3.5 dnd, played to level 30, but only ever got to like 15 in any pathfinder games. So... most of my build was made off theorycraft.

AC 38, touch 34, flat-footed 21; hp 224/224; Fort +21, Ref +29, Will +14; CMB +23; CMD 55; Defensive Abilities improved uncanny dodge;

Hobbe and Bogrun reload the gun and ready to fire one more time before picking up and moving.

Attack: 1d20 + 32 ⇒ (7) + 32 = 39
Damage: 24d6 + 35 + 2d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 3, 4, 1, 5, 6, 3, 4, 2, 3, 1, 4, 2, 5, 2, 4, 4, 5, 2, 2, 6, 4, 5) + 35 + (3, 6) = 126 Plus 12 bleed

"Right then, let's back it up, Bogrun!" he shouts.

AC 38, touch 34, flat-footed 21; hp 224/224; Fort +21, Ref +29, Will +14; CMB +23; CMD 55; Defensive Abilities improved uncanny dodge;

Am i up?

AC 38, touch 34, flat-footed 21; hp 224/224; Fort +21, Ref +29, Will +14; CMB +23; CMD 55; Defensive Abilities improved uncanny dodge;

Jeez. Time-stopping gravity reversing major cursing... and all I do is just shoot a cannon once a turn. :P

Nice action economy!

AC 38, touch 34, flat-footed 21; hp 224/224; Fort +21, Ref +29, Will +14; CMB +23; CMD 55; Defensive Abilities improved uncanny dodge;

Was it still bleeding while in the maze? I mean, time passes for it since it was obviously able to power up during that time. That would be 12 hit points and 1 con bleed per turn! Also, I forgot I have Evasion as long as I have grit. :/ My bad. Will keep that in mind for future encounters.

"FIRE!" Hobbe shouts, setting light to the primed cannon.

Bleeding shot, GVS, Deadly aim, etc.
Cannon: 1d20 + 32 ⇒ (16) + 32 = 48
Damage: 24d6 + 35 + 2d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 6, 2, 2, 5, 2, 6, 1, 2, 5, 1, 6, 3, 5, 6, 4, 6, 2, 6, 6, 3, 6, 2) + 35 + (3, 5) = 140

AC 38, touch 34, flat-footed 21; hp 224/224; Fort +21, Ref +29, Will +14; CMB +23; CMD 55; Defensive Abilities improved uncanny dodge;

I can prepare to fire the instant the creature reappears. I don't really have anything else I can do.

AC 38, touch 34, flat-footed 21; hp 224/224; Fort +21, Ref +29, Will +14; CMB +23; CMD 55; Defensive Abilities improved uncanny dodge;

Hobbe repositions the cannon and zeroes it in, aiming for the center mass of where the kaiju *should* reappear.

"Thanks for the help, Khar'tenet. Just you wait till I get my airship up and running. Might need some crew but she'll get my gun wherever we need it to be." he calls to the undead.

AC 38, touch 34, flat-footed 21; hp 224/224; Fort +21, Ref +29, Will +14; CMB +23; CMD 55; Defensive Abilities improved uncanny dodge;

Okay. I can buy an airship! That would make transporting the thing way easier! :D

I'll need to borrow some able hands to fly it, but I think that Khar offered to help with that. That works for me. Hobbe doesn't care about them being skeletons as long as they can do their jobs.

As for damage, I'm not landing like 5-7 hits like everyone else is, I'm just doing one good hit per round, with extra effects like bleed.

AC 38, touch 34, flat-footed 21; hp 224/224; Fort +21, Ref +29, Will +14; CMB +23; CMD 55; Defensive Abilities improved uncanny dodge;

Portable hole, or needles of fleshgraving. Just tattoo them on my body and pop them out when I need to. I still have shy of 50k in gold unspent I could use on that...

AC 38, touch 34, flat-footed 21; hp 224/224; Fort +21, Ref +29, Will +14; CMB +23; CMD 55; Defensive Abilities improved uncanny dodge;

I don't have any other issues, just... I think I misunderstood how they were used. I thought setup time was for constructing a siege weapon that came in multiple pieces to a battlefield. A cannon... well, is one to two pieces, ultimately. And we have a bag of holding full of cannonballs. I've taken all the other feats and even got class features that makes loading and shooting them easy, though I seemed to have overlooked the aiming move action thing. Shouldn't be a problem since I vital strike and don't actually full-attack.

I don't necessarily want to leave, I just don't want to bog things down either.

AC 38, touch 34, flat-footed 21; hp 224/224; Fort +21, Ref +29, Will +14; CMB +23; CMD 55; Defensive Abilities improved uncanny dodge;

It's around 4000 lbs... Bogrun has the strength with his magic items to carry the thing, Hobbe couldn't on his own. Eh, I don't think it matters. I must have grossly misunderstood how siege weapons are used and this design just doesn't work the way it's supposed to. I'm going to have to withdraw from the game; I don't think I did the character right, and needing an HOUR to set up for maybe 1-2 rounds worth of shots is so not worth it.

I'm going to have to go over the stats on this build again when I'm more conscious, since it's been a while since I built him. If I'm wrong somewhere along the line, then this build is essentially useless and I'm sorry for wasting your time.

AC 38, touch 34, flat-footed 21; hp 224/224; Fort +21, Ref +29, Will +14; CMB +23; CMD 55; Defensive Abilities improved uncanny dodge;

I dunno, I managed to do near 300 damage with my two shots, not counting the HP and Con bleed. God, what I wouldn't give for Mythic Vital Strike, though! :D

Status:
Bogrun 120/180. Hobbe 194/224. -2 dex skill checks and reflex saves (Glaciation)

"G~&%%&n!" Hobbe shouts. "Let's not get hit by that often eh? Reload!"

Does it look like the bleeding wound is in effect? I.E. is it bleeding from my first shot?

Bogrun shakes the sheets of frost off himself and loads another cannonball.

Hobbe fires the cannon. Then nods. "All right, back it up after this." he says.

Standard on each of us. Bogrun-loads cannon, Hobbe fires. Moves spent picking up and getting ready to reposition.

Return Fire!: 1d20 + 32 ⇒ (7) + 32 = 39 vs. touch, no range penalties this time! If the kaiju *is* bleeding from my first shot, spending 1 grit to inflict 1 point of Constitution bleed this time.
Damage: 24d6 + 35 + 2d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 5, 4, 6, 1, 6, 2, 2, 3, 6, 5, 2, 6, 5, 6, 6, 5, 2, 6, 6, 3, 2, 4) + 35 + (4, 5) = 143 Still including the last 2d6 bane damage at the end until told otherwise.

AC 38, touch 34, flat-footed 21; hp 224/224; Fort +21, Ref +29, Will +14; CMB +23; CMD 55; Defensive Abilities improved uncanny dodge;

"Here!" Hobbe calls to his comrade, who drops to a knee and sets the cannon down. Hobbe aims the cannon and sets light to the firing chamber. "Let's range this fat bastard in." he says.

Standard action for Bogrun to set-up. Standard for Hobbe to make his shot. Using bleeding wound for 0 grit points. (Signature deed, loses 12 more HP each round).

Greater Vital Strike, cannon: 1d20 + 32 - 6 ⇒ (9) + 32 - 6 = 35 Vs. Touch, with range increments.
The cannon booms, the blast of it's firing displacing mist around it as the cannonball shoots out.
Damage: 24d6 + 35 + 2d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 4, 4, 6, 6, 2, 1, 2, 5, 1, 6, 6, 2, 4, 5, 2, 5, 3, 2, 6, 4, 5, 4) + 35 + (1, 6) = 135 Those last 2d6 are bane damage. It also starts bleeding for 12/round.

AC 38, touch 34, flat-footed 21; hp 224/224; Fort +21, Ref +29, Will +14; CMB +23; CMD 55; Defensive Abilities improved uncanny dodge;

Then I'll be double-jumping each round until we get about 800 feet from the kaiju. to save you time.

AC 38, touch 34, flat-footed 21; hp 224/224; Fort +21, Ref +29, Will +14; CMB +23; CMD 55; Defensive Abilities improved uncanny dodge;

Hobbe and Bogrun will full-round action run with their equipment each round until they get to 4.

I realize we actually DONT have 10 rounds to fight these things, especially if we start at opposite ends of a 10 round field and charge at each other.

AC 38, touch 34, flat-footed 21; hp 224/224; Fort +21, Ref +29, Will +14; CMB +23; CMD 55; Defensive Abilities improved uncanny dodge;

Makes sense to me!

Initiative: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (5) + 14 = 19
I am glad for having a high modifier, that would have sucked terribly otherwise.

"Bogrun! We roll!" Hobbe calls. "Gimme a cannonball."

Hobbe and Bogrun take off, moving towards the Kaiju's position. Coming up FAR short of the creatures position, Hobbe says something in goblin akin to 'here', and Bogrun thuds the cannon down and loads it.

How far is the Kaiju? I have a range increment of 200 ft and a touch weapon, so I'm totally fine shooting him from like, 1000 feet away if I can get away with it.

Hobbe and his gun:

+5 Magical Beast-bane Distance Impervious Reliable Living Steel Cannon
Ranged with Vital Strike feats +32 touch, 24d6+35 B/P +2d6 vs. Magical Beasts. Misfire 1 (does not explode unless 2 misfires in a row). Using Bleeding strike deed with every strike, inflicting 12 bleed on top of normal damage.
Crew 2 (Hobbe and Bogrun. Only need 1, but Bogrun ensures I can fire every round)
Reload 3 actions. Usually full round, Master Siege Engineer lets the team perform each full action as a move instead. With Bogrun, that means I can fire as a standard, and use my move and Bogrun's two move actions (move and standard-downgrade) to ensure it is reloaded and ready.

AC 38, touch 34, flat-footed 21; hp 224/224; Fort +21, Ref +29, Will +14; CMB +23; CMD 55; Defensive Abilities improved uncanny dodge;

"Right, called it now didn't we?" Hobbe grumbles, looking at the silent image. "Now that's a right scary one. I knew dragons bred with everything, but whole mountains, now that's new."

AC 38, touch 34, flat-footed 21; hp 224/224; Fort +21, Ref +29, Will +14; CMB +23; CMD 55; Defensive Abilities improved uncanny dodge;

Still squatting, Hobbe notices the Cros all pausing and the corner of his mouth twitches. He elbows his partner in the leg. "Bogrun. Looks like we're up." he says, adjusting his bandoleer as he stands. "Get the cannon, we've got monsters to kill."

He draws his musket and loads it, slipping an adamantine bullet cartridge into the breech-loading weapon and snapping it closed. "Ready to move?" he asks. At that point Bogrun returns, a massive shining steel siege cannon somehow hefted onto his shoulders. "Yes, boss." Bogrun replies.

AC 38, touch 34, flat-footed 21; hp 224/224; Fort +21, Ref +29, Will +14; CMB +23; CMD 55; Defensive Abilities improved uncanny dodge;

Hobbe shakes his head. "No... we don't." he says, his clipped accent lilting as he sighs. "Sword skills like that mean nothing compared to the scale of what we're dealing with. What is he going to do, chop its ankles until something important gets within reach?" he drops into a squat, grumbling. "If you'd seen the crab from earlier you'd know what I mean. Individuals with their swords thinking they're going to make a difference are just touting false hope."

Though, he'll be damned impressed if Corso actually does cut one down.

"You need spells, or really damn big guns, to hurt something like that kaiju. I mean, unless you're secretly over a hun'red feet tall and aren't telling us." Hobbe's words aren't conveyed in a cutting matter, more in a way that infers that he's trying to let them down easy.

AC 38, touch 34, flat-footed 21; hp 224/224; Fort +21, Ref +29, Will +14; CMB +23; CMD 55; Defensive Abilities improved uncanny dodge;

Exactly!

AC 38, touch 34, flat-footed 21; hp 224/224; Fort +21, Ref +29, Will +14; CMB +23; CMD 55; Defensive Abilities improved uncanny dodge;

Because, as anyone who has made a level 20 litch before knows, they're actually scary good in melee.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Approaching the group is a hobgoblin, which in and of themselves is a rarity considering that the hobgoblin race was almost completely wiped out fighting the Kaiju far earlier in the year. At his side and just behind him is a massive bugbear of extraordinary physical fitness and mass. On their persons are numerous pouches, loops, and tools indicative of being a siege gunner. The hobgoblin carrys a musket on his back and has numerous metal cartridges slotted in his equipment. They both reek of gunpowder, iron, and blood.

"Would've been here sooner, if I hadn't been in the southeast district." he says, his accent clipped but unfamiliar. "Bogrun had to drop the cannon during the kerfluffle." Imagine a cockney accent, but I'm not going to butcher people's eyes trying to write that out.

"Sorry." the bugbear replies, rolling his eyes."You try carrying it sometime, boss."

"Anyways," the hobgoblin says, making no effort to shake any hands. "I'm Hobbe and this is Bogrun. I'll be your firing support. I do the shooting, and Bogrun hauls the cannon and keeps the little buggers off me while I work." he clarifies. "If we can get some of the other siege guns up and running I can direct those too."

"We brough our cannon from home." the bugbear booms. "She's special."

Hobbe shrugs. "He's got earplugs in still." Hobbe explains, pointing to his ears.

That absurd stride length, yo.

To get ready for this, I've rewatched Pacific Rim and a few other giant monster movies just for the feel.

It would be a good option as a last resort. Demiplanes are great and all, but they're not really connected to anything. Which would be a problem for the growth of the population.

I don't have the perform needed, but hitting an 18 perform DC is really easy for a level 20 character that actually has points in the skill.

AC 38, touch 34, flat-footed 21; hp 224/224; Fort +21, Ref +29, Will +14; CMB +23; CMD 55; Defensive Abilities improved uncanny dodge;

Well, if we have some arcane casters with conjuration spells, summoning or planar binding outsiders to keep repairing the city is the most reliable way. Several of them have stuff like make whole or wall of stone. They can also be used as morale-boosters, since by level 20 we could call upon even planetars, who have some awesome aura abilities.

Outside of that, I have plenty of Engineering, which means I can direct efficient rebuilding of our defenses.

AC 38, touch 34, flat-footed 21; hp 224/224; Fort +21, Ref +29, Will +14; CMB +23; CMD 55; Defensive Abilities improved uncanny dodge;

Fortunately foci aren't expended when cast. So you can keep re-using it to have a reliable damage source.

AC 38, touch 34, flat-footed 21; hp 224/224; Fort +21, Ref +29, Will +14; CMB +23; CMD 55; Defensive Abilities improved uncanny dodge;

I hope to just explode them with some well-placed cannon fire. Hasting doesn't help me, but vital strike does! :D

Oooh! Magic siege weapon would be okay. And Arcane Cannon is an amazing spell.

AC 38, touch 34, flat-footed 21; hp 224/224; Fort +21, Ref +29, Will +14; CMB +23; CMD 55; Defensive Abilities improved uncanny dodge;
