"Lissala! There are those who doubt you, but not us! We are beset by unbelievers and in sore need of help - but we do not ask for your aid, we ask for your advice. TEACH US LISSALA that we may raise a kingdom in your name!"

With these last words Hargran rips asunder his staff, and reality.

spellcraft DC 24:

Hargran has opened a gate and summoned Lissala.

The dwarf gasps, and sits. He takes from the disoriented servant his staff.

"Runelords! Masters! Students! We are beset by..." a pause, as the energies keeping Hargran alive struggle to keep him breathing. Hargran - renowned for his long speeches, winces as he utters his next words.

"I shall be brief. We face something that trespasses upon the power of a god. Long have I thought on how to combat this - then the answer hit me. They may have a god, but so do we: Lissala! This day I intend to beseech her aid directly!"

Some time later...

Hargran sits propped against a wall. His lifeless body looks sightlessly ahead.

The servant's body Hargran is currently inhabiting shivers then looks away.

"My loyal disciples" Hargran begins

"It seems obvious that I have suffered severe damage. I hate to use the word irreparable but indisputably the magic at our disposal will not suffice. Were it not for your efforts it is likely that I would have perished. Let this be a warning to you all to be cautious about stressing your body past its thaumic threshold."

"Still - we are alive. I gather the supplies we were taking with us will have been confiscated by now. I do have some supplies outside of Cheliax, but it will take some time to arrange for their arrival. Without my staff it might now be impossible."

"As I stated briefly earlier - I have excellent news. Following a divine vision I traveled to the Swordlords of Restov this morning. There I discovered that they were in the process of establishing new colonies in the Stolen Lands. They had just recieved word that one of these colonies - the only we are in now - was in the process of falling."

"I then negotiated Swordlord support and charter for my own claim to the kingdom, provided that I could rescue one Kesten Garess - the man who was in the process of being hanged. The Swordlords have appointed him official Ambassador to the Kingdom of Hargran from the Swordlords."

"I have warded this area from divination as best I can. I will reside here and attempt to find a way to restore my body to operation. This particular spell is at best a stop-gap, and it will take the vast majority of my magical power simply to avoid unconsciousness."

"The news in Brevoy suggested a large body of bandits took this keep by storm. Most worryingly the message suggested significant magical resources. Find out what you can, then we must decide whether to prepare for defense, or strike while we have surprise."

"While I am in some doubt as to exactly what has happened recently - I spent some time unconcious it seems obvious that we have done an admirable job under hard cicumstances. I commend your efforts."

Hargran rarely commends anyone - from him this is as a round of applause. While his speech is logical and disciplined, there is the glimmer of a tear in the servant's body's eye.

Hargran, gasping, stretches out his hand to Arioch.

Struggling for air he powers through his last incantation. the blood vessels in his left eye burst. Blood trickles out of his nose and ears.
Then he is gone, and with him his students.

Meanwhile, in the Mysterious Unknown Location
Suddenly Simon, the Master in Grey, the familiars and Hargran materialise in knee high grass.
Hargran clutches at his chest, and falls to his knees.
Nodding frantically at Simon's question he points past a large tree, where a fort can just be seen.
"Need to save..." he starts but the name is lost in his panting.
"Start... Got to... Others... Devils coming."

Hargran grabs Simon and The Master in Grey

Simon, Master:
Assuming you both have your familiars touching you, so will count as 4

He chants quickly and they are gone.
Init please, ladies and gentlemen.

Hargran pants as he talks
"I've made a... deal with the Swordlords... of Brevoy... My own kingdom... But there was an Accuser... got away... Thrune"

Knowledge: planes DC 13:

a CR 3 Devil often used as a spy.

Knowledge: Nobility DC 18:

Some of house Thrune's best infernalist spies make extensive use of an "Accuser" as some sort of remote spy.

To the servants "Bring everything here now... or run!"
Again to the students
"Still have Teleports... We go, now... First Four."
First four to post are in - sorry Caillus, even a few seconds will mean you are in the second wave. Figure 'first post' is a halfway decent randomisation mechanism.

"Is everyone here? We need to go! Now!"

Reader Stonebound is clutching a scroll in his left hand, and his polearm in his right.

sense motive DC 12:

Reader Stonebound appears somewhat frantic - normally a staid and reserved dwarf, it is unlike him to get worked up about anything.

Heal DC 14:

Reader Stonebound is old even for a dwarf. His heart is not strong enough to pump the blood around his body when he gets worked up. The symptoms he is displaying now suggest he is very worked up. The obvious solution is simply to sit calmly for ten minutes or so and drink some water.

Spellcraft DC 12:

Though an exception Telportation mage himself, Reader Stonebound has always lambasted those who use teleportation frivolously. The risk of being stranded on another plane are remote - but possible. Given his rooms are a few minutes walk away it is unlike him to teleport.

Perception DC 15:

Reader Stonebound is clutching a scroll and his polearm. The scroll appears to be a fairly standard magical scroll, save that this particular scroll has a seal dangling from the bottom, suggesting it has been re-purposed into a legal document.

Knowledge Local DC 17:

This is the ceremonial polearm is marked with the symbols of Lissala. Reader Stonebound does not carry this lightly where outsiders can see. Though this place, full of his employees and students, is probably safe, where has he been going to?
