Very Annoying Boss Fight

3/5

Boss fight puts the PCs in a very bad position against a difficult opponent. Apparently there are ways to gain bonuses, if you go a certain way. However, there is nothing to push PCs to go in that order.

Fun but not Fully Balanced

3/5

I enjoyed the scenario, except for the fights not feeling balanced for their timing. Each main fight was balanced to be completed on its own (going through all of my soldier's stamina), but being immediately thrown into the next fight did not feel balanced.

Non-Mint Unavailable

3/5

Fun module except for one fight that was awful. The first two parts of the module were fun, but part 3 was obnoxious. One fight was poorly designed and resulted in characters either being ineffective or sitting out entirely. Several traps/encounters were also annoying.

Mostly a Fun Scenario

3/5

Scenario was fun until getting pinned and having to sit out while the party and GM try to figure out if there is any way to avoid very bad things happening to your character.

Overall, be grab ability and being able to be sent all the way to pinned if the enemy rolls well is very obnoxious. Pinned in general is way too hard to escape.

Other than this on creature, the scenario was good.

Personally did not enjoy

2/5

This scenario is very boring to play with a character that is not super skill focused. I played this with a soldier, and spent about 2 hours sitting around doing almost nothing.

Also, I have never enjoyed starship combat. It causes long delays as the party has to figure out how to make an effective crew. It then basically turns into sitting around for 5 minutes before making one roll and waiting for 5 more minutes.

Unreasonable Skill Checks

2/5

The first set of skill checks is designed to be nearly impossible. Even if this does not stop you from progressing, it is annoying and generally feels like a waste of time

A Slog of a Scenario

3/5

As other reviewers have said, this scenario involves a lot of skill checks, some of which have very high DCs. Although they did try to have a variety of skills used throughout the scenario, many checks only offered one choice. This meant that many players spent a lot of time unable to meaningfully contribute due to not having the one required skill. For the final phase, the DCs were simply too high, resulting in ~25% chance of success if you are trained in the correct skill but not specialized. In terms of combat, the scenario varied greatly. One was very easy. Another was not particularly dangerous but felt like a slog due to a large number of required saves and enemies having a lot of health. The boss fight went well for us, but that was likely because the two highest level PCs were barbarians and one of them critted early in the fight. If we had not had them the fight would likely have ended poorly since the boss hits very hard very often.

Not a bad scenario

4/5

While this "series" is not quite a series and is more 3 scenarios that loosely follow related events, the scenario is not bad. It can be quite short if the party attempts to avoid combat. There were some entertaining parts and overall I liked the scenario even if it was short.

Trivial combats and not much else

2/5

I ran this scenario for a group of 4 level 1s and a level 3. All of the combats felt very trivial with no actual threats. Part of it might have been I was not rolling well and some players were, but even without that I don't think any of the combats would have been a challenge. With the combats being so easy and there being so many of them, the scenario quickly became boring for both the GM and the players.

This might be a good scenario to run for newer players due to the low threat of dying, but it could also take a long time due to the number of combats

Memorable in a Bad Way

1/5

Many encounters were designed in a way that if your character/party lacks certain very specific abilities, you will be unable to contribute. Many encounters also seemed designed not with the goal of providing a challenge, but instead to prevent people from participating and kill characters. The puzzles were also annoying due to the fact that even if you could figure them out, you might still fail them due to rolling poorly on any of the secret rolls or if the puzzle itself is a trick.

Just want to pitch in here, I had the same idea as OP, to run Jade Regent with an all goblin party. Here's why: WE BE GOBLINS IS LISTED AS A STRAIGHT PREQUEL TO JADE REGENT!!!

I ran my group through We Be Goblins and they loved it. When I told them it was the Prequel to Jade Regent, they immediately demanded that I buy it and let them run it with their We Be Goblins goblins.

Come on, guys! There has to be a way to make this work!
