Guilford maintains his concentration, ready to counter spell with spell.

Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22

Guilford doesn't see the enemy until she appears. Still quick on his feet the wizard is able to act first. He steps back and readies a casting of Dispel Magic to counter the enemy.

Dispel Check with Dispel Focus: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 7 + 2 = 27

If she cast in the surprise round, then I'm SOL for now. If I'm too late I'll just save this for if she tries to cast again.

My apologies. Work is getting quite busy, and I'm just not as focused when I get home as I'd like to be.

I have been checking Wayfinder every day and I'll be sure to keep up - but if there's a decision to make to move the game along, I'm ok if you skip over me.

Guilford put the potion of cure serious wounds in his handy haversack.

"This way if one of you gets in trouble, I can help get you back on your feet."

He stays with the party as they move about and nods in agreement with Reesa and Tumbler's plan.

Will: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27

Guilford shrugs off the effects of the magic and enters the room.

Switching to his free hand, Guilford unleashes one of his prepared magic missile spells.

He will target the nearest threat still standing with all 4 bolts.

So target orange first, then red, and finally purple. I have to designate before rolling damage, so no re-directing if one falls after a single missile.

Damage: 4d4 + 4 ⇒ (1, 3, 3, 4) + 4 = 15

Guilford pulls his wand of magic missile from his handy haversack and aims it at the nearest orc (purple). He sends a bolt of energy flying at it.

Magic Missile: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Happy to oblige.

Reacting swiftly, Guilford casts his spell of haste on the team.

"There now, you can act even more swiftly!"

Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24

Guilford looks up from the book he's been reading. He has a bad habit of absently pulling one out of his handy haversack on occasion, sometimes even in dangerous places.

He blinks a couple of times and then straightens his glasses.

"Yes, let's try to speak with them first. I do dislike bloodshed, and they may prove indifferent to our approach."

Know History: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11

Guilford searches his memories, but also draws a blank.

"That direction sounds good to me. And I do so hope we don't meet too many undead. Always a messy business with them."

"Quite so, indeed." replies Guilford briefly as he enters the room and scans it with another detect magic spell active.

Guilford moves over and casts a spell. A jet of flame leaps from his hand toward the orc!

Damage? - 2 rays: 8d6 + 4 ⇒ (1, 6, 5, 1, 3, 5, 5, 3) + 4 = 33

Sorry, I was traveling on Wednesday then had work catch-up followed by a funeral. I lost track of this one.

Guilford assesses the situation, attempting to decide which spell would be the most use right now.

I'd also like to apologize for going dark for awhile. No good reason other than this is not the time when Guilford would lead the charge.

Guilford considers for a moment, then quickly casts mage armor on himself from his wand.

"I'll follow along too, but I'm not keen on getting near the front."

Guilford takes a quick look around the area, then casts detect magic and peers around the room more slowly.

"Let's see if there are any spells in place here..."

"Take care! If anything is too difficult to injure with your weapons, just give me room to work my spells."

Fire Mage mode: activated. x2 Fireball, Scorching Ray and Burning Hands ready.

Ok, I will probably load up on utility spells then as per usual. We have more than enough arcane firepower, but I suppose if anything is a tad short it could be blast spells?

Guilford will take the wand of protection from evil, if that's OK. At least it's on his spell list!

"Those are impressive talents to have, sir. My own agility can't match yours, I'm sure, but I have more than a few magical tricks up my sleeve. I can both hasten and strengthen my allies for combat. I'm also decent at countering another mage's spells, though I'd like to be better at it. Let me show you my spellbook and I invite you to let me know where I can be of assistance."

If you're interested, please follow the link to Guilford's profile and look at his spellbook. I usually keep a variety of useful things prepped, but if we need a bit more focus, I can leave slots open or double up on spells that would help the party best. I can also afford to scribe and copy a coupel of 2nd or 3rd level spells if you kinow of any you'd like to have ready. Gil is meant to be a support mage, but he's also the first wizard I've played in any form of D&D or its derivatives.

Gil's a no-go as well. Geography is one Knowledge I don't have any ranks in, and my Survival is only a +1. It looks like Taliesin may have a shot, though.

Guilford adjusts his glasses and clears his throat.

"While I may not have the looks of our fair companion, I am knowledgeable in these subjects."

Take 10 on Knowledge Religion for a 25. I can do Arcana at 24 if you require different skills for 1 and 2. If this works, I'll also ask that each person read the appropriate spoilers.

"It has been my experience that so-called "dry" histories at least lay the facts of the past bare. Popular stories make it more difficult to discern truth from embellishment. I suppose it is a good thing, then, that I am here. I would be glad to lend my scholarly expertise."

Ok, so after I went over Guilford's records, it looks as though I have an extra spell on my character sheet. Assuming the most costly error I need to buy a scroll and pay scribing costs for 1 3rd-level spell (as I only just gained 4th).

I would also like to buy & scribe scrolls of Dispel Magic and Elemental Body I.

375 + 90 = 465
375 + 60 = 465
700 + 160 = 860

Total cost = 1,790.

Regarding my lesser reach metamagic rod - I read the entry on the prd an I'm not clear, but does it allow me one use per day regardless of spell level?

A tall, slender man adjusts his spectacles before adjusting his haversack. He is well-dressed and speaks in a slightly stuffy tone.

"Well, I can't say I know too much about the goings-on in Cheliax. After a jaunt through the Hold of Belzken to locate a dwarven Sky Citadel, I've been back in Absalom. Had to sort out some things at the Blakros Museum. Quite the time, I must say. It is nice to be abroad again."

I typically play Guilford as an absent-minded professor type. My personal preference is to keep Buffs and Utility spells handy, although he has been known to cast Fireball when called for. I believe he has some Summoning scrolls if we really get in a bind, but having haste, daylight and dimension door are often handy.

I need to go over his chronicles, ITS, and character sheet this weekedn to make sure he's up to snuff.

This is Oswin's level 7 wizard, happy to attempt the lower tier if it evens things out.

Ok, I am back home, but getting back in later than expected. I will have limited posting ability this week, but I am here and will keep following. Gil's a support wizard anyway, not usually a leader type so I'll follow the group unless I post otherwise.

Guilford tenses as Baern points out the odd beast. He grips his metamagic rod more tightly.

"Well, yes, the tapestry is truly a wondrous find! A magnificent opportunity for research and study! I wonder what cultural oddities these dwarves will have developed in relative isolation? I am ready, Master Zey. Fear not, I have matters concerning the arcane well in hand!"

And in this group a haste wizard would definitely be a force multiplier.

If we're feeling a bit under-leveled I can play Oswin, cleric 9.

Currently I see 5 players checked in with an APL of 6.6

If we only have 5 I think that means playing low tier for 6, which I'd feel way better about than playing up with only one PC in the high tier level wise.

I need to do some fiddling with chronicle gold, but Guilford is bascially what you see plus a couple of Summon Monster III scrolls.

Gil is a mixed bag. Last game played aside a haste sorceror, so I did blasting by fireballs. But haste and other buffs are usually my thing. And greasing the Bbeg's +1 sword of awesome.

I mostly enjoyed the games. Beckett, I really appreciated you being up front about absences and such. And given the reason, I am more than willing to be accommodating.

One thing I appreciated in particular were how you formatted your recaps each round. Once in a while I lost track of turns, but not often.

I also thought a little more in character conversation would have been nice. It was a bit difficult, and saying this is hard, but frankly there were probably too many grumpy/antisocial characters for that to work well. I blame myself to a large degree.

When I visualize Guilford he is like the professor with little field experience and a downward view towards "less civilized" cultures. He'd fit in well in late nineteenth century London, I think. But maybe he's not a good Pathfinder. We have to cooperate with every race and nationality in-game, and the same is true in real-world in online games as the players themselves are often scattered across the globe.

I have tried to think of him as being more peevish, absentminded and stuffy, but this means that while he might be affable enough, he isn't one to reach out very much to others who are similarly introverted.

Anyway, if I wasn't roleplaying much in these games it was largely to to character introspection on my part.

And please do not take this as me trying to tell any of you how to play your characters. I enjoyed getting to know them over these games.

Guilford wears no armor, but carries his metamagic rod in hand. He has a pair of daggers in his belt, and a truncheon (club).

He can make an 18 by taking 10 on everything EXCEPT Engineering and Geography. He shares this information with everyone in the party.

You could delay and full attack if within range. Grease only covers a 10' square, so conveniently the creature occupies all of those squares.
