Grumble needs 6 charges from the infernal wand. We're going to burn through this thing fast.

Grumble gave some serious thought to killing Brian on the spot. He didnt like random nobodies showing up out of nowhere and knowing their plans. Besides, they really only needed the wands. After a brief internal struggle the ogre snorted and said "Heal me then."

Once the wand had done it's work, Grumblejack started stomping his way up the stairs.

HP 53/53, Temp HP: 8, Cold, Electricity, Fire resist 5, AC 23, For +10, Ref +5, Will +6 Corruption 5/5 Active Effects: Cowardice Aura

I'm planning on taking Leadership at 7th level, and had plans to have Raaven "evolve" by becoming a cohort and taking class levels.

I could do that early. He'd make a hilariously begrudging healer.

Oh g*&!#+nit. Sorry about the roll botch there. It was supposed to be 1d20+14 (rolled a 14, result 28), and 2d8+17 damage (I think the result was 23. Don't remember now)

Grumble huffed in ragged anger and brought his axe down on his fallen enemy one last time just to vent. Then he gave Nate a nod that looked something like a bull that had just tossed an unwanted rider. As far as gestures of ogre appreciation went, it was a pretty good one.

"Stupid trees," he growled.

He wouldn't say so, but it was clear he was in no condition for another fight.

HP 53/53, Temp HP: 8, Cold, Electricity, Fire resist 5, AC 23, For +10, Ref +5, Will +6 Corruption 5/5 Active Effects: Cowardice Aura

Yup. I'm not down though. I have Deathless (which functions like Diehard when I have Martial Focus). So I'm Disabled, but not down.

Grumblejack was too stupid and too stubborn to fall over. He was slower, and his breathing was ragged, but he kept swinging.

I lose 1 HP for taking a strenuous action. Down to -7[/dice]
Power Attack, haste: 1d20 + 14d2d8 + 17 ⇒ (14) + (4, 7, 6, 8, 6, 2, 1, 7, 3, 7, 5, 4, 3, 1, 7, 5, 6) + 17 = 113

HP 53/53, Temp HP: 8, Cold, Electricity, Fire resist 5, AC 23, For +10, Ref +5, Will +6 Corruption 5/5 Active Effects: Cowardice Aura

Berserk soaks 8 HP again. Took 18 real damage. Down to 12 before I dip into my Deathless (negative) HP. With how hard these trees hit I'm getting a little worried.

Using an Immediate action when the lead treant falls to activate Savage and regain my Martial Focus.

Grumble was battered but refused to flag. He rounded on the treant that had just struck him and threw himself at his foe with unbridled savagery.

Power Attack, Haste: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (4) + 13 = 17
Slashing Damage: 2d8 + 17 ⇒ (2, 6) + 17 = 25

Power Attack, Haste: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 32
Slashing Damage: 2d8 + 17 ⇒ (3, 3) + 17 = 23

Power Attack, Bite: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Damage: 1d4 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14

AC is currently 21

HP 53/53, Temp HP: 8, Cold, Electricity, Fire resist 5, AC 23, For +10, Ref +5, Will +6 Corruption 5/5 Active Effects: Cowardice Aura

Is there a map of this fight? If there is one, I'm not seeing it.

Berserk HP takes 8 of that damage. Grumble takes 23 real HP. Berserk HP pool refills at the beginning of his action.

Grumblejack shrugged off one of the blows from the trees, focusing all his rage and might on the largest one. He even threw his shoulder into it for a moment and sunk his fangs right into it's wooden face.

Targeting the big treant.

Power Attack, haste: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23
Damage: 2d8 + 17 ⇒ (1, 4) + 17 = 22

Haste Attack: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21
Damage: 2d8 + 17 ⇒ (5, 6) + 17 = 28

Bite: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Damage: 1d4 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14

Lets please move forward. The only way to gain momentum is to keep moving and hope the players check in.

Having played a build similar to Erisaigh's before, there's an often overlooked rule that will be relevant.

Intimidate Rules wrote:

You can attempt to intimidate an opponent again, but each additional check increases the DC by +5. This increase resets after one hour has passed.[/ooc]

So each successive intimidate roll, succeed or fail, gets harder. In my experience it doesn't change the game much. It just means you probably won't want to spam intimidate checks after every attack.

The main thing that this rule effects is the Hurtful feat. When to try for the extra attack becomes a lot more tactical, rather than something you do every round.

I assume Jack takes the surprise round and the rest of us are in initiative now? Hopefully he was close enough to get that attack in.

No idea. I'll let Shadow sort that out. If Jack doesn't get initiative on the Treant, that post can be my round one action.

Oh, in case it matters for Errisaigh's abilities, if I get within 10 feet of the treant it takes a -4 to any fear related saves.

HP 53/53, Temp HP: 8, Cold, Electricity, Fire resist 5, AC 23, For +10, Ref +5, Will +6 Corruption 5/5 Active Effects: Cowardice Aura

...but it was Grumblejack who brought down the axe.

For the new members of the party, Sir Jack is now a demon-blooded ogre, complete with horns, a tail, and vestigial wings.

"Five!" Jack snarled as his massive blade came round.

Charge, Power Attack, Greataxe: 1d20 + 13 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 13 + 2 - 2 = 31
Damage, power attack, brutal strike: 2d8 + 11 + 6 + 10 ⇒ (7, 7) + 11 + 6 + 10 = 41

Activating Berserk as a free action. Also spending my Martial Focus for Brutal Strike.

Current AC 21

Still here. I'm dropping most of the games I'm in because real life has gotten very busy lately, but I'm staying in both your games, Shadow (as long as you're willing to run them).

Hope things calm down in your life.

Checking in.

Being naturally nocturnal, Trying to sleep at night never felt right to Jack. He spent most nights reading in the pitch black, having silent, telepathic conversations with Raaven about things in his books that he didn't didn't understand. At midnight he offered his prayers to Asmodeus. Usually he rested from dawn to whenever the rest of the Knot decided to get up, and found other times to catch a nap throughout the day when they weren't doing much.

Tonight was no different. He was awake. He set his book down, stood up from where he was leaning against the wall, and picked up his hammer.

HP 53/53, Temp HP: 8, Cold, Electricity, Fire resist 5, AC 23, For +10, Ref +5, Will +6 Corruption 5/5 Active Effects: Cowardice Aura

HP 53/53, Temp HP: 8, Cold, Electricity, Fire resist 5, AC 23, For +10, Ref +5, Will +6 Corruption 5/5 Active Effects: Cowardice Aura

Grumble's against killing Nate too, don't worry.

HP 53/53, Temp HP: 8, Cold, Electricity, Fire resist 5, AC 23, For +10, Ref +5, Will +6 Corruption 5/5 Active Effects: Cowardice Aura

I definitely want to know what's going on with Nate. Great scene.

Grumble doesn't care because he's a stupid jerk.

HP 53/53, Temp HP: 8, Cold, Electricity, Fire resist 5, AC 23, For +10, Ref +5, Will +6 Corruption 5/5 Active Effects: Cowardice Aura

Grumble seemed a little dubious at the silky cuffs, but as Morana showed them how they worked he became much more impressed. With a chuckle he tugged them though a quick array of clothing, settling on something similar to the sturdy finery Lord Havelyn wore, but in grey and red.

"Hey, these are great" he grinned. He didn't say a word of thanks, but it was clear he was thrilled with them.

HP 53/53, Temp HP: 8, Cold, Electricity, Fire resist 5, AC 23, For +10, Ref +5, Will +6 Corruption 5/5 Active Effects: Cowardice Aura

"Alright. I figured maybe you'd appreciate her bein' warned, but if that ain't what you want," Grumble shrugged "I got no problem with less talk. Next time she starts making threats I'll jump straight to eating her."

HP 53/53, Temp HP: 8, Cold, Electricity, Fire resist 5, AC 23, For +10, Ref +5, Will +6 Corruption 5/5 Active Effects: Cowardice Aura

"'Cause he helped us start the fire," Grumble shrugged.

HP 53/53, Temp HP: 8, Cold, Electricity, Fire resist 5, AC 23, For +10, Ref +5, Will +6 Corruption 5/5 Active Effects: Cowardice Aura

Grumble gave Havelyn a gesture to come in, then moved tot he back of the cabin to make room for everyone.

HP 53/53, Temp HP: 8, Cold, Electricity, Fire resist 5, AC 23, For +10, Ref +5, Will +6 Corruption 5/5 Active Effects: Cowardice Aura

"We got an ally who wants to join the Knot." Grumble said to the Cardinal as he entered the cabin. "You wanna talk to him?"

HP 53/53, Temp HP: 8, Cold, Electricity, Fire resist 5, AC 23, For +10, Ref +5, Will +6 Corruption 5/5 Active Effects: Cowardice Aura

Grumble didn't spare the Cardinal's pet another glance. He walked into the cabin, ready for the next mission.

HP 53/53, Temp HP: 8, Cold, Electricity, Fire resist 5, AC 23, For +10, Ref +5, Will +6 Corruption 5/5 Active Effects: Cowardice Aura

Grumble stopped and slowly turned toward Tiadora on his way into the cabin. "First Soren, then Aurex. That's two. You threaten anyone in my Knot a third time, I'll eat you. Then I'll have Raaven here eat whatever's left until there's nothin' left of you but a little rock. Then I'll eat the rock."

Intimidate: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (10) + 17 = 27
Plus Aura of Cowardice lowers her Intimidate DC by 4 and removes any Fear Immunity she might have.

Just in case it isn't clear from Grumble's simplistic description, what he's talking about would completely destroy Tiadora's soul.

Whatever else anyone might say about Grumble, he seemed to take the oath sworn in the Cardinal's study very seriously.

HP 53/53, Temp HP: 8, Cold, Electricity, Fire resist 5, AC 23, For +10, Ref +5, Will +6 Corruption 5/5 Active Effects: Cowardice Aura

"Seems ta me that Mitrans're more interested in what they think knights are supposed to be like than what they're actually like," Grumblejack replied after a moment's thought. "You want to talk, I'll listen."

HP 53/53, Temp HP: 8, Cold, Electricity, Fire resist 5, AC 23, For +10, Ref +5, Will +6 Corruption 5/5 Active Effects: Cowardice Aura

Grumble shrugged. "Gotta know the stories if I'm gonna play the part."

HP 53/53, Temp HP: 8, Cold, Electricity, Fire resist 5, AC 23, For +10, Ref +5, Will +6 Corruption 5/5 Active Effects: Cowardice Aura

Listening to Havelyn talk made Grumble realize his own imitation of knighthood wasn't very good. He scowled in frustration and handed Alice the book of children's stories.

"Any of these got knights in 'em?"

HP 53/53, Temp HP: 8, Cold, Electricity, Fire resist 5, AC 23, For +10, Ref +5, Will +6 Corruption 5/5 Active Effects: Cowardice Aura

Grumble rumbled something incoherent and went back to his book.

HP 53/53, Temp HP: 8, Cold, Electricity, Fire resist 5, AC 23, For +10, Ref +5, Will +6 Corruption 5/5 Active Effects: Cowardice Aura

Grumblejack casually set down his book and stood up to his full towering height. He didn't say anything. He didn't need to.

Intimidate: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (13) + 17 = 30

I'd imagine that the boat isn't very big, so she's probably within range of my Aura of Cowardice, in which case my Intimidate is +4 higher, and she loses any immunity to fear she might have.

HP 53/53, Temp HP: 8, Cold, Electricity, Fire resist 5, AC 23, For +10, Ref +5, Will +6 Corruption 5/5 Active Effects: Cowardice Aura

Wow, all three are strong submissions With no obviously superior choice I'm willing to go with Soren's preference. Helix's version of Thomas has some mechanical similarities to Grumble, but I'm fine with that.

HP 53/53, Temp HP: 8, Cold, Electricity, Fire resist 5, AC 23, For +10, Ref +5, Will +6 Corruption 5/5 Active Effects: Cowardice Aura

Spheres of Power is an impressively thorough reworking of how melee classes work, designed specifically to put their options on par with spellcasters.

It won't be of much use to you, but Soren might want to look into it. There's a bunch of great stuff for gun based characters

HP 53/53, Temp HP: 8, Cold, Electricity, Fire resist 5, AC 23, For +10, Ref +5, Will +6 Corruption 5/5 Active Effects: Cowardice Aura

Our wonderful GM just Ok'd Spheres of Power in the recruitment thread, so I'm going to be giving Grumble a slight rework. I'll be losing Spellcasting and Smite Good, but gaining some more combat versatility.

Keepign Havelyn as an NPC for the next section of the game is a cool idea. (We'll need all the help we can get)

HP 53/53, Temp HP: 8, Cold, Electricity, Fire resist 5, AC 23, For +10, Ref +5, Will +6 Corruption 5/5 Active Effects: Cowardice Aura

Soren has some Craft Alchemy, but it doesn't look like it's a major focus for her. In my opinion having our resident Witch brewing up alchemical goodies in a magic cauldron is the way things should be, so I say go for it. Hell, retrain some skill points and say you knew it all along.

Prety sure you're correct about the spellbook. You'll both copy spells during downtime, and when you're done with it we'll sell it for a bucket of money (spellbooks are expensive).

What kind of a question is that? Of course we're going to loo the keep.

"Ask her," Grumble said, shooting a clawed thumb toward Soren. He busied himself with looting the chapel and the keep.

HP 53/53, Temp HP: 8, Cold, Electricity, Fire resist 5, AC 23, For +10, Ref +5, Will +6 Corruption 5/5 Active Effects: Cowardice Aura

Grumble pointed to the catapults. "Aurex, you wanna break those real quick?"

Once the catapults are taken care of, then yes.

HP 53/53, Temp HP: 8, Cold, Electricity, Fire resist 5, AC 23, For +10, Ref +5, Will +6 Corruption 5/5 Active Effects: Cowardice Aura

Caught in a silence spell, Grumble didn't hear a thing anyone said. He could spot the imminent violence about to erupt, so he leaned against the doorway of the chapel to watch.

HP 53/53, Temp HP: 8, Cold, Electricity, Fire resist 5, AC 23, For +10, Ref +5, Will +6 Corruption 5/5 Active Effects: Cowardice Aura

How about we let them kill each other, and ally ourselves with whoever wins?

Survival of the fittest is very Asmodean. Lamashtan too.

Grumble came out of the chapel dragging what was left of the Magister out of the chapel by the ankle. He tried to talk three separate times, but no sound was made due to Soren's spell. Eventually he gave up and busied himself looting the bodies and the chapel.

Crit Confirm, graverobber: 1d20 + 11 + 1 - 2 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 11 + 1 - 2 + 3 + 1 = 20

The Son of the Apocalypse lowered his head like an angry bull and moved. He was surprisingly nimble for a behemoth. He stepped off the small fountain right past Vedran and went straight through the church doors after the Magister. He muttered something as he went, but it was lost in the oppressive silence surrounding him.

My movement will provoke an AoO from each Acloytes when I move through the door. I am not Charging (I have Haste so I can move far enough). My AC is 24

Earthbreaker, Haste, Power Attack, Smite: 1d20 + 11 + 1 - 2 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 11 + 1 - 2 + 3 = 33

Morana, Grumble currently has a 20- radius zone of silence going on, so I think you're going to have to move a little bit to cast your spell.

Or you could wait until after Grumble moves forward. Just wanted to remind you it was there.

HP 53/53, Temp HP: 8, Cold, Electricity, Fire resist 5, AC 23, For +10, Ref +5, Will +6 Corruption 5/5 Active Effects: Cowardice Aura

RAAVEN, GET YOUR ROUND ASS OVER HERE. BRING THE LIZARD, AND PICK UP NATE WHILE YOU'RE AT IT. Grumble thought to his hellish servant.

Will save vs. Archon Aura: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20

Swift Action, using my other Smite against the Archon.

5' adjust to position on map

Grumble adjusted his position and continued his assault on the the Golem.

Earthbreaker Attack to Golem, flank, haste, power attack: 1d20 + 13 + 2 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 13 + 2 + 1 - 2 = 34
Damage, power attack, hidden strike: 2d8 + 11 + 6 + 1d4 ⇒ (1, 8) + 11 + 6 + (1) = 27

Crit Confirm, graverobber: 1d20 + 14 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 14 + 1 = 24
Bonus Crit Damage: 4d8 + 22 + 12 + 1d4 ⇒ (8, 2, 6, 2) + 22 + 12 + (4) = 56

I'm going to bet that kills the golem. Changing targets to the Scout.

Then he leaned over and took a massive bite out of the bowman.

Bite attack to Scout, haste, power attack: 1d20 + 12 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 12 + 1 - 2 = 23
Damage, power attack: 1d4 + 7 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 7 + 4 = 13

Using my Prehensile Tail ability to retrieve a flask of Alchemist Fire, and tossing it at the Magister

And with his magically assisted speed, he used his tail to whip an explosive vial into his hand and and whip it towards the Magister.

Bonus Haste Attack, ranged touch vs. Magister, haste, power attack, Smite: 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 2 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 6 + 1 - 2 + 3 = 17
Fire Damage, smite: 2d4 + 5 ⇒ (1, 2) + 5 = 8

As a reminder, Alchemist Fire deals "persistent damage" for one round, so if this hits the Magister, he's going to need to make a Concentration check to cast anything (besides being shot by Soren).
