As the first VL or VC to respond here, I'll give a little bit of insight into the "structure" of PFS.

Kevin, thanks for the insight. I will try and send him a private message that way.

I really do not think he is against the rules or trying to run his own way. He was knowledable about many of the rules and I think he would appreciate knowing this one was clarified. We all miss rules and make mistakes.

Yeah, but this was from one of the players saying that is not ever a rule. It’s really a minor thing to be honest and I shoudn’t have even mentioned it. A nit-pick really.

To be honest, the more I think about it the more i think I just had a poor attitude on the experience. I went there to play and I judged instead of trying to just have fun with my character. I was too shy to play a personality and ended up just playing a stat block.

I was invited back for the next session (they had three planned for that day) and I couldn’t get out of the store fast enough.

The people at the table were definitely outside of my comfort zone, but that is probably not the reason I didn’t enjoy myself. I wanted them to play “my” pathfinder and not theirs.

I had the poor attitude and they were kind enough to accomodate me. A learning experience.

Lycanthropy Question: I have been tracking down all the rules on this since one of my players recently got bitten. The primary rules are scattered between the CRB and the bestiary, but there are hints to other sources: Blood of the Moon and Classic Horrors Revisited: I have all of these books. Can you guys check my understanding:

Bit by a natural werewolf: DC15 Fort or contract the affliction

On a failed save, the PC has one hour to consume belladonna. The bestiary specifically calls out wolfsbane, referencing CRB pg 560, but I am uncertain if this is an error. I am doubtful they would reference wolfsbane in the bestiary and then belladonna in the CRB. My ruling for the purposes of my question is that the writers meant belladonna and not wolfsbane, even though the bestiary was printed after the CRB and would normally supersede the information printed.

BELLADONNA:

Type poison, ingested; Save Fortitude DC 14
Onset 10 minutes; Frequency 1/minute for 6 minutes
Effect 1d2 Str damage, target can attempt one save to cure a lycanthropy affliction contracted in the past hour; Cure 1 save

If the belladonna does not work, we are left with two options:

  • A remove disease or heal spell cast by a 12th level cleric (or arguably any divine caster) cast within 3 days of exposure
  • Remove curse or break enchantment cast during a full moon (according to Classic Horrors Revisited)

According to the curse in the CRB, anytime the afflicted is injured or on every full moon, the target transforms.

WEREWOLF LYCANTHROPY:

Type curse, injury; Save Fortitude DC 15 negates, Will DC 15 to avoid effects
Onset the next full moon; Frequency on the night of every full moon or whenever the target is injured
Effect target transforms into a wolf under the GM’s control until the next morning

My questions:

  • If you save vs the belladonna, does this still allow another save or does the poison need to affect you to allow a save?
  • When injured, does the player need to make a DC15 Will save to resist the change anytime they take damage? Is this only lethal damage or non-lethal damage as well?
  • If they are forced to change from damage, can they choose hybrid form or are they forced into animal form like on a full moon?
  • When forced to change from damage, do they lose their identity like a full moon’s transformation or must they make a DC 20 will save?
  • Do they change only a single night of the full moon or the three-day period?
  • Are they required to make a DC 20 Will save to retain their identity on the first full moon they experience or every full moon?
  • If they choose to change on the full moon, DC 10 for animal/hybrid, will that allow the afflicted to avoid the Will save to lose their identity?

I would think Shelyn since he has a romantic connection to Sosiel. It doesn't really mean that just because they are a couple means they share the same faith, but I would feel that is a good jumping off point.

I'm glad to hear about this change, but maybe they nerfed it too much.

Now it is something I would probably never take.

These are great suggestions, and I thank you guys for taking my concerns seriously instead if the usual round of insults that frequent the boards.

I will play the next session as written and see how they do. I might modify Jerribeth since she is supposed to be an iconic baddie, but I think my players are prepared to strike a deal with her to end Xanthir.

We play this Saturdaya and I'll report the session. I will also try to find a good healing option until they find a cleric.

Caius... you make me feel stupid, lol. Yes, they have no healing. The warpriest can heal a little bit, and the alchemist has a little healing, but he is dead now and the player has replaced him with a barbarian: no healing except mythic recuperation.

They are mostly below wealth, but that is because I had rebuilt Zanedra and she took out the entire party with her Eidolon. I didn't level her, just rebuilt and changed her spells.

This battle went pretty poorly as well. At the time they were using a lot of invisibility, and with mythic undetectable, by RAW they would be impossible to find. We house ruled that EX methods could bypass it (blindsense, blindsight, tremor sense and perception checks, but still has total concealment if it applies).

Since they stood in the room pre-buffing before the fight with her, she started buffing her eidolon as well. They made their perception checks and continued to buff after knowing she was also casting buff spells. Now, to their benefit, they had no idea it was a summoner, but 4 (only four players at this time) against one, it shouldn't have mattered.

Round one, they opened the door under the status and the creature full attacked the flat-footed monk/ninja (no uncanny dodge) and dropped him. This took the party by surprise.

Round two, the fully buffed eidolon with lifesense (evolution surge to give undead and lifesense) pounced the wizard... down.

The next rounds didn't really matter. Everyone dropped after that and to salvage the game, the PC's were captured and tortured. All gear was lost and they have to salvage what they have now.

The last series of sessions had them at lower wealth and this made the encounters tougher, but they still could hit with good damage.

The biggest problem they have is staying up in fights. They are very paranoid on fights, specially failing saving throws. The battle with the woundwym got nasty as the entire party failed the entropic breath weapon and fought each other... the woundwyrm was mostly a secondary player as they went after each other with gusto. They are truly great Role Players.

Two characters died in this battle (we did a side mission to hell to get them back, only to have the rogue alchemist die again the next session). Dying seems to happen a lot.

We recently had a discussion to house rule out most of the hero point options. I didn't like the idea of being able to add +8 to a saving throw and then do a surge on top of that. This could add up to a +16 to a save. Not to mention is slowed down the table watching them contemplate if they want to do it or not.. and I have to wait.. and wait. I am sure you guys know what I am talking about when a 3 round battle takes 90 minutes because of all the hem's and ha's.

So the issues they have is:

    • Not enough gear
    • Saving throw failures tend to cost the life of a player (it doesn't, but they only remember the times it happens)
    • battles are too deadly

They are not complaining. They really are enjoying themselves, but they cannot understand my concerns that the AP is going to get too easy and they are going to get too powerful. We have also done some of the typical things, made mythic power attack like mythic deadly aim, things like that.

    Yes, indeed.

This seems like a reverse incentive to use. Players will start getting bored, as mine are, with something like this.

Invisibility + mind blank is a high level combination, creatures of that power level will have added methods to deal... at least you would think.

ANY player can get this non-detection ability at low level making it not only a game changer but a head scratcher.

Paizo is constantly reviewing rules to make the game more balance... anyone remember the crane wing nerf or the limit on free actions? But then they throw out another thing that breaks the game even further.

People will have a lot to say, and when someone says this is silly or stupid, the only answer we get is "that is not helpful".

Well.. it's not helpful to place things like this in the game and then sit on their hands. We have to spend time testing and reworking the system to get it to work properly. I really do not like house ruling or testing a system I am suppose to have faith that it works as it.

    It doesn't.

So... I supposed I should start a thread in the advice section or the houserule section to deal with another dropped ball. The people that are saying it is great or that it is fine either are playing a different method than I or they are just talking. If they are not having trouble with it then I would love to hear how they are dealing with it at the table. And if they have play tested this on the other side of the screen and see how their players reacted.

I am truly not trying to rant, but I am. No ill intention is meant with this post, but some constructive ways to deal with it and make my players happy is what I am looking for.

    Thanks :)

    Well, that's unfortunate.

So, like I said. It's a auto win.

Not every opponent is going to be mythic and have mythic spell casting.
It's too difficult to overcome. This really needs to be reworked.

Am I the only one that thinks this?

Really sorry to sound negative... But this is plain stupid.

I'm a little surprised at this.

I like what Chopswil is doing. I don't think he is trying to cause problems; I think he is trying to help.

The Paizo staff have their hands full and it is great to have access to a dedicated base of players working hard together to improve the game.

This is a great book and deserves a purchase.

    Only the initial attack.

That would be like a large creature taking damage four times from a fireball.

Didn't know that about Druids... Good thread
