Ghersh has an appointment in the morning. Nothing mentioned since has changed that appointment.

Enjoying the food and feeling the benefits of it, Ghersh relaxes. Yet as Yaline describes the services of the house, and more importantly, their associated prices, he pales. "I see."

At his companions suggestion of exploring, the cataphract nods in agreement. "Yes, let's get out into this town and see what is afoot. At these prices, we will need to amass a small fortune just to be able to afford the common room tomorrow night."

Ghersh looks to Meriui, gauging his companion's words before responding, "You think too much. I owe a debt to these people. I will pay it off and in so doing find out what is to come. Maybe it is Yalandere. Maybe it is something else. You know how I find out? When it comes."

He looks around the tavern room, gesturing with both hands as he spreads his arms wide. "Tonight you rest in luxury. Take advantage of this gift." Clapping the fighter on the shoulder, he emphasizes his point, "Faruq here has the right idea. Baths are what we should be discussing. Baths and food. Well, baths, food and good drink. Actually, baths, food, good drink and a pliant woman. Yes, those are the things we should discuss!"

Bowing to Hadule, Ghersh replies, "You wish is my command. My lance is at your service."

The cataphract steps forward to meet Yaline. Bowing low, he rises saying, "My name is Ghersh ibn Nader. My compatriots and I are travelers from a land outside of your realm. Your friends are truly valiant warriors and we are in their debt for attacking the anubites who had captured us. Your warm welcome and gracious invitation due you credit. Thank you for your hospitality, Mistress Yaline. I place myself in your service."

Ghersh, astride Al Hadiye, looks out upon the oasis in amazed delight. "The gods be praised for such a wonder as this oasis. Truly, you are blessed in this place you call your home."

Ghersh nods to the speaker for the humans. He rides back to his gear, hopping off of the camel to don his clothing, armour and weapons before gathering up his other gear and re-equipping his camel.

Yeah, I plan to take Weapon Focus (whiffle bat) to help hit.

Male, Cavalier 2, HP 27/27, F +6, R +0, W +0,

Ghersh shakes off what remains of the anubite from his lance as he glances around the battlefield looking for another target. His eyes landing upon a likely looking chap, he motions the camel forward into another charge.

Charging lance melee attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10

Damage: 2d8 + 12 ⇒ (7, 7) + 12 = 26

Male, Cavalier 2, HP 27/27, F +6, R +0, W +0,

Ghersh gives a quiet word of command to Al-Hadiye and charges the nearest anubite, guiding the camel with his knees.

Charging lance melee attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14 16 if there is a flank
Damage: 2d8 + 12 ⇒ (7, 3) + 12 = 22

Male, Cavalier 2, HP 27/27, F +6, R +0, W +0,

Ghersh finding Al-Hadiye, attempts to quickly mount up. Fumbling with his lance as he does, it takes more time to get seated safely before the camel rises up to it's full height.

Fast Mount: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

Ghersh is one of those manly men that honestly thinks he looks better naked for not having all of those clothes hiding his godlike physique (STR 18, CON 16).

Male, Cavalier 2, HP 27/27, F +6, R +0, W +0,

Ghersh picks up his lance and drops the pole. He looks around for an anubite to charge while readying against any attacks that come within reach.

Ghersh moves to the cave entrance and also spies the group's gear. Without hesitation, he walks out into the melee, striding confidently towards his gear hefting the crude longspear in readiness against any anubite attempting to attack him.

Male, Cavalier 2, HP 27/27, F +6, R +0, W +0,

Was waiting for the other who had gone before me, but this is dragging on too long.

Ghersh stabs again at the anubite.

Crude longspear melee attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

Male, Cavalier 2, HP 27/27, F +6, R +0, W +0,

As the anubite closes with Ghersh, the cavalier's readied attack goes off.

Readied longspear melee attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

Grunting from the impact of the club, Ghersh steps back to be able to attack again with the longspear.

Flanking longspear melee attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

Also, Ghersh is medium sized, so I don't know how a summoned creature and a party member are both using me for a flank.

Male, Cavalier 2, HP 27/27, F +6, R +0, W +0,

Ghersh readies the crude longspear against one of the anubites getting within reach of him.

Ghersh only woke one other party member before retrieving the pole.

Male, Cavalier 2, HP 27/27, F +6, R +0, W +0,

Ghersh figured that as it's a ten foot pole that was jammed into the ground, it's likely sharpened at one end. He was thinking of it as more of a crude lance.

Male, Cavalier 2, HP 27/27, F +6, R +0, W +0,

Strength check to burst the ropes DC 10: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23 I'm afraid you're the yin to my yang, Meriui.

Ghersh merely flexes his wrist muscles and the worn cheap rope splits. He quietly moves to his nearest unconscious companion and shakes them awake. Glancing back, he sees Meriui slip from his bonds and head to another person. Ghersh returns to the post to pull it out of the ground.

You don't get a bonus to your attack for an opponent being prone.

Male, Cavalier 2, HP 27/27, F +6, R +0, W +0,

I don't know if I am close enough or able to make it, but Ghersh will attempt to aid Abal. If possible, he, or the camel, will attack the one facing Abal and the other of them will attack any others that attempt to close with them.

Lance melee attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

Bite melee attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Damage: 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

Or not...

Oh, nay, nay. Threatening consequences would be Intimidate. Pleading for others not to incur such consequences would be Diplomacy.

As the caravaneers turn and attack Ghersh, all thoughts of preserving their lives flee and he takes up his lance. He attacks the nearest of the two men attacking him, directing his camel to attack the other man.

Lance melee attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

Bite attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18

I believe he was referring to me. The camel's spit was intended to reduce the effectiveness of one of the many people in the fight without hurting him. The diplomacy check was to warn them that there would be consequences regardless of their part in the melee. If you don't want to allow for a diplomacy check or count non-damaging attacks, that's okay.

Ghersh seems to thrive in the blistering heat of the Sarengave, always a smile and a laugh to any of his fellow travelers comments. His camel seems to be fairing the extreme weather as well as it's master.

At the sight of the men fighting, Ghersh approaches astride his camel. At a gentle flick of his crop, the camel responds by spiting at the nearest man.

Spit ranged touch attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20

Sickened:: 1d4 ⇒ 4 rounds

"Stop this foolishness! Lives are at stake and none more than your own. Killing each other deprives us of two men, the one you kill and the one we exile out into the wastes on his own! Please do not force such a decision upon us."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27

Ghersh listens intently to Yalandere's tale. All the races of the Djinn came together to overthrow a single man? That is as remarkable as it is horrible.

At the elf's proclamation, Poor elf. To serve a mystery all one's life only to discover that is a man, a terribly powerful man, but still a man. The cavalier shakes his head in commiseration.

Quietly listening to his companions ask their questions, Ghersh mulls over the answers before asking his own question. "Who rules in Aridia?"

Interview:

Apologies, I only saw your PM tonight when I came into work.

Gently rolling with the gait of his camel, Ghersh surveys the busy town. It seems that there are many looking for a place in this elf's caravan. He spies a knot of people surrounding a man, clamoring for his attention. Ah, it would seem that is the most likely place to start

He dismounts and ties reins to a post nearby before moving into the group. As he advances, he can tell the poor man is harassed by the press of bodies. Shouldering his way through, he steps in front of him, nodding his head in respect. "Good man, I am looking for the master of the caravan heading out into the Saragave looking for Aridia. I am a trained soldier with experience surviving in the harsh desert and I bring my own camel.

The exasperated man blinks rapidly at this newest man's words. He notes that the man is tall and muscular, but plain in his features. Still, there is something about his carriage that begs notice. [b]"You say you have your own camel? Well, that's more than most bring and certainly more than these can boast." He waves his arms out to encompass the many people around him. "I am not the caravan master, merely his bookkeeper. Go through into the tent behind me and meet with Barune. Take this so he knows you are cleared." So saying, he hands Ghersh a chit with a mark inscribed upon it.

Taking the proffered chit, Ghersh steps up to the tent, pushing aside the flap and entering. He finds that it is nearly as bright as outside with a simple low table and cushions to either side. Across the table, a man sits, reviewing several ledgers. At Ghersh's entrance, he looks up, "Ah, another petitioner for the caravan. You will need to speak to Avid, my man outside. He will help you." He waves his hand to indicate that he should go back outside.

Ghersh responds, "Your man gave me this for you to announce my arrival and approval to meet with you."

Looking back up, the caravaneer spies the chit, "Ah, so you have seen him. Here, give that to me. Come, sit down and let us discuss the caravan and yourself. Give me reason to consider you."

Ghersh hands over the chit and folds his legs to sit on the cushion opposite the man. "I am Ghersh ibn Nader, a soldier trained in the arts of the furisayya. I can provide excellent protection to your caravan. I have been trained to survive in the harshest deserts and never in all my days have I been troubled by the worst heat the sun poured down upon my crown."

The master listens to the words of this newest applicant, smiling at his words. "You are a cataphract? Oh, so you and your horse are inseparable, heh?" He looks the man up and down, making note of the armoured coat and kilt. "You at least know the value of wearing armour that is not metal. There is something to be said for that."

"Sahib, begging your pardon, but I do not ride a horse. The desert swallows the dried out bones of horses. I ride a camel. There is nothing better for traversing the desert. A camel also maintains it's stamina in the dry heat."

The caravan master sat back at this revelation, "You ride a camel? That is very good to hear. So many of these pretty boys come in on a horse thinking that they are the gods gift to fighting. Watch them fall as their thirsty horse stumbles in the dunes after two days without water, let alone two weeks. Smart man you are. Tell me though, what other skills can you lend to a caravan?"

Ghersh bows in recognition of the compliment and continues, "I am no mere footman. I am educated and will be of immense value to your endeavors. I am trained to survive and have knowledge of what few oases are on this side of the Saragave. I can find prey and follow tracks. I can even be of use to you in negotiations. I have a sense for people and their motives and know how to speak with those we encounter. I speak several languages and can communicate with the elemental beings and spirits of the air, the earth and fire."

The man's smile grows wide enough to show his teeth. "I like this! You can speak to the elementals? You may bring us luck. I will take you on for protection and negotiation." He extends his hand, "I am Barune, master of the caravan. Welcome!"

Ghersh accepts Barune's hand in his own. "I am welcomed by your offer and accept this place in your caravan. Now let us speak of payment..."

Cold Moonshine Tavern:

Ghersh leaves from the tent of Barune and heads over to the tavern that the caravaneer mentioned. Entering, he is surprised by the number of prospective members already gathered. He strides to the bar and requests tea. After a long time, the bartender serves him the tea, a weak brew that would be tasteless if the cup were not so filthy. A look of distaste upon his face, he sets it back down and moves away to find a seat at one of the tables.
