Welcome everyone and congratulations on getting into Aridia. You all have my favorite concepts and this should be a very amusing game for me.
I have a few PBP rules I would like to go over first. This is how I run PBP.
Few PBP rules
Combat -
Always a big one this thing called combat. On PBPs it goes incredibly slow. I can build maps and will do so as often as I can.
The important thing I need to tell you has to do with initiative. I lump bad guys and good guys all on the same initiative. This is the fastest way I can run combat.
I roll all initiatives and take the averages. Good guys and bad guys go on different initiatives but as groups.
The order in which players go depends on posting. Whoever posts their action first goes in that order of initiative. So when you decide your actions, see who has posted ahead of you. That is what has happened and post accordingly. The only thing you can do as far as initiative goes is to wait until you feel it is right to take your action.
Again, this is how I run combat in PBP and it really does well at not being held up. Also, I use my own dice for this game. I hate using this messageboard's dice system because it is a pain to type out. So I simply go with my own.
Saves -
I will roll simple saves where I deem necessary. Or any roll that may come off as a simple post of "I roll something" and that is it. So I will roll things like certain saves or simple perceptions and such. Again, this is to keep the game from slowing down too much.
Sandbox -
I believe I have mentioned before this game is a sandbox and will rely on a lot of player creativity to run. As such I will not physically force the party along if things become stagnant. The games progression is mostly in your hands.
Before I move the group on need someone to take lead and actively post when they are ready to move on. So long as one member of the party moves, I will move the game along. In this game if a party doesn't move on from certain points due to lack of posting, I will send a monster to attack the party. As long as roleplay is taking place, I won't pick on the party too much as I do enjoy good roleplay.
If you need help as to ideas on places to go, things to do, I have some advice. I will have a lot of mini quests in this game. Every settlement you go to, every person you meet, even inanimate objects you find will have quests tagged to the, Doing these quests can unlocck more quests.
Also, if you feel stuck at any point, make knowledges checks appropriate for the situation. Survival checks are also a check you may make too. I will fill you in on what you can do, or what you need to do depending upon your results.
Those are my major points of running this game.
I will start the gameplay thread one everyone selected has chimed in and presented their completed character sheets.
Also, with your group, I will be a bit more lenient with my posting demands. This doesn't me purposely slow down, it means I am willing to give you a bit more room for your busy lives and not badger you too much if the game is slow.
This is of course as long as it continues to move in general.

Ah good, welcome aboard. I really liked your backstory and I felt I wanted you in this game. Should be interesting. This group has a few Daiga lovers in it too.
Hehe, they will either become the best of buds or feud over the proper interpretation of Daiga's will.
A lot like putting a Baptist, a Methodist, and a Catholic in the same room together. Believe me I have seen that debate. It can be both entertaining and frightening.
Should be an amusing game if these guys do it well.

Meriui bin Mircea |

Dave's not here, man.
Everybody ready-ish?
And I really don't think I would describe Meriui as a Daiga lover, just as somebody whose religious life is centered around Daiga . . ..

Wyldyrn Cor'amnis |

Definitely ready.
Also, reference Wyldyrn's feats... I'll be taking Dervish Dance next level. For flavor purposes only, going to describe his attacks with the scimitar as using his agility instead of strength (mechanics-wise I get it, but flavor-wise I hate the jump those two feats make....). Just throwing that out there.

Okay the opening post is up. It covers the first two and a half weeks of your journey. The opening to this campaign is kind of lengthy, the point we are at right now is your point to post and roleplay a bit and gain some information you will need in Aridia.
The campaign actually officially starts upon your arrival to the fabled land.

NOTE: This message has been copied and pasted to all groups.
Sorry I have had issues with posting over last night and today.
I suffered an Asthma attack the other day and I have been worn out since.
I haven't been up for posting all day. I hope to be better and back to normal posting tomorrow. Thank you for your understanding.
Sincerely Shanosuke.

My world is a little topsy-turvy right now, too!
Back in March I accepted a promotion and moved 1,000 miles to take it. My wife is scrambling to finish the work to our old house so that she can hand it over to a Property Management team to rent, and come join me. Finally.
Monday, the movers show up and start packing her out. Thursday they take all our stuff away. Work replacing floor coverings happen after that. She's supposed to start travelling on the 16th, arriving here on the 17th. The movers are supposed to deliver on the 18th.
Oh, and my promotion is as a civil servant. I'm currently sitting unpaid in my apartment (I switch to a larger apartment the day she arrives in town, Thursday the 17th), waiting for Congress to tell me I can go back to work so that I can afford to pay for ANY of the above.
Change and stress are just part of life. Getting over and past stress is why we have hobbies!

"Finalized" plans
As a head's up:
I moved 1,000 miles 7 months ago. Thursday night my wife finally arrives.
The movers MIGHT arrive on Friday.
My internet connection changes from one apartment to another on Saturday.
So, the odds are REALLY good that the last meaningful connection with me for this weekend will be on Wednesday.

Wyldyrn Cor'amnis |

Sorry for my absence all. Been very busy this week. Had a lot of training I had to attend for work as well as testifying in court this afternoon. Working on only 3 hours of sleep, so if my post isn't very good that would explain it.

Meriui bin Mircea |

Wife and household goods both showed up. The bathroom, bedroom, part of the living room and some of the kitchen are in order. Enough that we can live day-to-day while she goes through the rest of what she brought and gets it all put away. I hope she can make it all fit. I'm really not certain she can. Still have boxes scattered in the dining room, living room and kitchen, and the second bedroom is about 50% full of boxes, too.
She's spent the last seven months getting rid of stuff, too.

We posted that we went to look around.
You posted some quick sketches of significant people.
I saw nobody I felt an immediate need to seek out, and nothing about the place or what the normal people are doing as we explore.
I saw no reason to post anything to try to stop or counter interest that others expressed, but I also had no reason to support such interest.

Shanosuke |

I should point out that in this scenario I need to know what each person is doing.
In towns the party is not required to be together and I encourage party splits so folks can individualize thenselves and accomplish personal goals.
I will apologize for not inquiring about the rest of the party's activities while two members expressed their interests. In hindsight it was a mistake. I will try and prompt and inquire more often. Again I apologize for that.
So with that said. What are the rest of you going to do in town?
I have Abal and Wyldyrn showing interest in the alchemist.
What are the rest of you going to do for the day? I need to know before I move us along.

Shanosuke |

Okay after reading over the campaign thread I'm a bit stuck.
Half of you have shared an input but no one has really said where you are going next.
I see only Abal has an interest in the herbalist but that is all I see. I don't even see and action to go there....just interest.
As I have stated, I am not pushing this party around. You guys have to tell me specifically when you wish to do something, I am not going to assume.
That said, I would like to know if there is anything I have not posted that you would like me to post.
In game the time is the afternoon, you have the whole rest of the day to do stuff. I need you guys to post me some actions please.

Meriui bin Mircea |

Not sure when, but I lost this game tab. I keep a browser instance open with a tab for each game I'm playing, but this one dropped off. I must have hit the little x when trying to change tabs looking for an update.
As I said, I'm not sure when it happened.

Shanosuke |

I want to apologize. Black Friday is coming up and I work in retail. I have another project going on right now that needs my attention as well. So I won't be posting as much for the next two weeks. I will try to get posts in where I can but all the work has left me incredibly worn out.
I hope to have things moving a little faster after Thanksgiving and the speed should pick up even more after Christmas. Until then I apologize again for the slow posting and I hope that you all continue to stick with me until then.

Faelyn |

I'm still around and will stick with this game no matter what happens. I quite enjoy this character and the campaign concept. That being said... Since only Abal and I seem to be interested in doing a little roleplaying, I suppose we move on to the alchemist and then onto whatever else you have planned for us.

Meriui bin Mircea |

Same here. I actually have a question or two I wouldn't mind asking him IC, but it would be rude to not allow him to respond to the open questions first. Rudeness is not well tolerated in most Desert cultures, partially because manners were formed based on what helps the group survive . . ..
