My dog is currently quite unwell and we're not sure what's going on. We have a follow up vet appointment tomorrow (hopefully; local alleys and streets are still ice sheets). But I will be intermittent/away a few more days probably.

Thinking of you all, Scott. Take care and I hope the three of you recover swiftly.

Also diplomacy to send south.

Sorry! Busy at work. Good idea. He cannot harm swarms as they are immune to weapon damage.

My assumption is "yes", but to save the question later: are these swarms the swarm creature type?

Updated Galen's items and wealth, accounting for the 10% Restov premium and wand.

Thought I posted earlier but it seems to have not gone through - can I assume Galen's longbow purchase from the bottom of the previous page was permissible?

Board ate my earlier post. Galen can contribute to the wand, was it 150 gp each?

I am at a conference all this week so won't be about much - busy with colleagues in the evenings. It is at least in DC so I'll be coming home every night!

FYI as I am expecting to drop away after the next portion of the adventure, having played Kingmaker before, I will not give input on city building so go with what you think's best! :)

Can Galen buy a +2 composite longbow (+4 STR bonus) for 8800 gp? That should help a lot when facing things out of melee range.

Nope, I'm from Scotland - Aberdeen! Although I did live in various places near London for a long time, which is why I mostly lost the accent.

Grimnir, for a little more on the "dwarves as an allegory for the Jewish diaspora" scroll to the "The Hobbit" section of this article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dwarf_(Middle-earth) It goes into some stereotypes that both are often portrayed with. I guess all fantasy cultures are inspired by real-world ones, with varying levels of nuance, and it's interesting to see how different writers write them and different readers interpret.

Being Scottish I do find it a little odd that dwarves are often portrayed that way in fantasy fiction (similar to how elves are often from southern England, and Orcs are also often written as lower-class British) - but I have got used to it, and I like the way you're writing Grimnir's speech, so please continue! :)

Okay, now that's REALLY funny. I think they're Scottish likely because in the movies they seem to have Scottish accents, but I'm curious where the Jewish angle comes from.

I am said player - will post a link in the OOC thread. Short answer: lost homeland, stereotyped love of money, industrious, and hooked noses. Characteristics which are incidentally not typically associated with us Scots!

Galen raises an eyebrow. "Such a place sounds quite dangerous - but if the stories of the riches are true... quite a resource. I'd be keen to hear more of it. I wonder if the hoard is still there?"

Sounds good to me! I will try to get the level up done this weekend, although I'm out a lot and early next week is a bit crazy here before the holiday break.

Galen's level up won't involve anything crazy. I'll email you the sheet when done as well.

I think it dates from before the game, so: is there something special about Alister's sword that we know in character? Or is it just a family heirloom?

Thinking quickly, Galen tries to pour a potion of Cure Light Wounds down Corb's throat, cutting his fingers slightly on the bird's beak.

Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 (and removed from sheet)

He looks around the group, noting their injuries. "What... what was that? At least that... thing was going away. We're in no state."

Galen shrugs. "If we don't deal with it now, it may be back, with allies. I say we pursue and try to stop it before it has a chance to regroup and recover. Once we've spent a few minutes tending our own wounds, at least."

Back now! I need a new computer.

Galen brings the pommel of his sword down on Kundal's head as the latter rises, since his companions seem reluctant to harm him.

Attacking to inflict nonlethal damage with the AOO.

Attack with longsword: power attack, nonlethal: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21 (+11 base, +2 inspire courage, -4 to inflict nonlethal)

Damage: 1d12 + 14 ⇒ (7) + 14 = 21 (1d12+12 base, +2 inspire courage)

Think I figured it out. His full stat block in profile was correct. But the one we put into the one line for "Classes/Levels", which is the one listed above each post, evidently hadn't been updated at some point. Fixed it now.

M Human Fighter (7); - HP 60/60 ,- AC 24/T: 10/FF: 24 - F: +7 R: +4/ W: +6 (+8 vs. fear) - CMB: +9 - CMD: 21, Speed: 30, Init. +4, - Perception +12

I've noticed there is a mismatch between some of Galen's stats (saves, CMB/CMD) on this website under his name, and on the pdf from Hero Lab. I will try to work out which one is correct in the coming days. I've been using the pdf from Hero Lab as I suspect what happened is that some change made to his character did not make it to these forums correctly. So note his will save is +6/+8 vs. fear, rather than +4/+6 vs. fear as this website says.

M Human Fighter (7); - HP 60/60 ,- AC 24/T: 10/FF: 24 - F: +7 R: +4/ W: +6 (+8 vs. fear) - CMB: +9 - CMD: 21, Speed: 30, Init. +4, - Perception +12

I don't know if they are subject to critical hits or not. But if so, the above attack roll is a critical threat, so here's the confirmation roll (and if successful, above damage of 19 is doubled):

Crit threat confirmation: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30

M Human Fighter (7); - HP 60/60 ,- AC 24/T: 10/FF: 24 - F: +7 R: +4/ W: +6 (+8 vs. fear) - CMB: +9 - CMD: 21, Speed: 30, Init. +4, - Perception +12

Will save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13 note additional +2 from Bravery class feature if this is a Fear effect.

Galen continues to attack the ghosts with his magical longsword.

Attack with +1 longsword: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31
+1 longsword damage, one-handed: 1d8 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19 (slashing, magic)

M Human Fighter (7); - HP 60/60 ,- AC 24/T: 10/FF: 24 - F: +7 R: +4/ W: +6 (+8 vs. fear) - CMB: +9 - CMD: 21, Speed: 30, Init. +4, - Perception +12

Will save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 note additional +2 from Bravery class feature if this is a Fear effect.

Galen takes a step forwards, and hacks at one of the ghosts with his magical sword, his other arm holding his shield.

It is not explicit whether one can take a 5-foot step in addition to an action in a surprise round. Paizo forums lean towards yes. If you ruling is no, Galen just takes a step and then ignore the below attacking.

Attack with +1 longsword[/dice: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25
+1 longsword damage, one-handed[/dice: 1d8 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16 (slashing, magic)

"I don't like the looks of this, at all."

Galen keeps a wary eye out.

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21

M Human Fighter (7); - HP 60/60 ,- AC 24/T: 10/FF: 24 - F: +7 R: +4/ W: +6 (+8 vs. fear) - CMB: +9 - CMD: 21, Speed: 30, Init. +4, - Perception +12

FYI, I have been having trouble getting on the site the past few days - not sure if that's just me.

Also, I will be away and probably incommunicado from Fri 1 until Mon 11 June. For work (boo) but in Hawai'i (yay)!

M Human Fighter (7); - HP 60/60 ,- AC 24/T: 10/FF: 24 - F: +7 R: +4/ W: +6 (+8 vs. fear) - CMB: +9 - CMD: 21, Speed: 30, Init. +4, - Perception +12

Galen keeps sword drawn and shield raised.

Will save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20

Add an additional +2 from Bravery (fighter ability) if this is a Fear effect.

M Human Fighter (7); - HP 60/60 ,- AC 24/T: 10/FF: 24 - F: +7 R: +4/ W: +6 (+8 vs. fear) - CMB: +9 - CMD: 21, Speed: 30, Init. +4, - Perception +12

Yeah composite would be nice! But since these guys are tough, time to advance...

Galen stows his bow, draws his sword, and advances.

Then I amend the above!

Galen shoots at the rat swarm with his bow. Including the -4 for intervening cover

Masterwork longbow attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12 (+7 base, -4 cover)
Masterwork longbow damage: 1d8 ⇒ 7

M Human Fighter (7); - HP 60/60 ,- AC 24/T: 10/FF: 24 - F: +7 R: +4/ W: +6 (+8 vs. fear) - CMB: +9 - CMD: 21, Speed: 30, Init. +4, - Perception +12

Is Mikhail correct that weapon damage can harm rat swarms? Or, does Galen think so? He does not have ranks in Knowledge:Nature.

Galen is relying on others' magical lights, and generally keeping a look out, bow drawn and arrow nocked.
