The deadline for applications is in 3 days.

Eidolons CAN pierce The Grey, primarily because they are conjured using the Summoner's own essence, at least that is the flavor spin I put on it.

The portion of the document speaking of eligible classes is non-applicable. Remember, the document was made by DM Under a Dark Sun, I just used it for the races and Wild Talent tables.

FangDragon, if you want to use a modified Half-Giant more closely resembling the one in DSP's psionics series, then it can be a 'subspecies', just like the subspecies for the base races in the ARG. I will boost its power accordingly. And yes, any 3.X Dark Sun material you want to use will be converted to Pathfinder, because that is our rule system.

As for Repletion, it now costs 1 PP per day to maintain and the cost doubles for every day it is in use. When the PP cost exceeds your PP total, you immediately suffer the ill effects of starvation/dehydration. The ability only eliminates your body's need for food and water while active, after all, it does not nourish it.

Feuerrabe, your concept is valid, but there would need to be some fluff changes. PM me for more information.

Excellent. By the way, you can use broken weapons like that as single-use impaling items, if you are REALLY stretched for a melee weapon! :P

So, you want a stick or a proper weapon lol?

If you want a fragile club/quarterstaff that will gain the Broken condition on a nat 1, then yes, you may. It seems to me that the 1 CP you are paying is just for a stronger bit of wood that has excess 'branching' removed, as opposed to just some stick that you pick up. Make sense?

Fixed the link in the spoiler. Follow it for a table that equally applies to PP and MP. Enjoy!

Dragoncat, yes, but I was using that term for now since I was unsure how much people have read.

As for the casting rules with Clerics, it will look something like this.

Cleric Casting:
Now, here's the rub. Regular Spells and Domain Spells both draw from the same MP pool. You choose the regular number of spells you want to prepare for the day, as normal, and you have all of your available Domain Spells prepared (Obviously, you can only prepare those of appropriate level,). All of these spells are considered 'Attuned', which means that you can cast them with your Mana Points. Any spells with Focus or Material Components still require those, unless you have some method of waiving them via feat, class feature, ect.

Base Mana Points the Cleric Gains
1. 4
2. 8
3. 14
4. 21
5. 31
6. 44
7. 51
8. 73
9. 91
10. 110
11. 131
12. 158
13. 184
14. 213
15. 241
16. 276
17. 313
18. 350
19. 386
20. 429

You also gain bonus Mana Points for a high casting attribute scores, as is listed in this document from 3.X which matches that used in the Pathfinder update to Psionics, which is representative of balanced bonuses to PP or, in your case, MP.

Adding Metamagic to a spell increases the MP cost by a number equal to the amount of spell level increase, doubled. So, for example, if a you were applying a Metamagic that increased the spell level slot by +2, you must pay 4 extra MP to apply it to a spell. Make sense?

Additions to the Athasian Xeph to make them on par with the other races:

+2 more DEX

Unnatural Athleticism: +4 Racial Bonus to Acrobatics and Stealth. Whenever the Xeph makes an Acrobatics check to jump, there is no cap on their maximum jump distance. They also take falling damage as if the distance was 30 foot less, assuming they are not bound in any way.

Greater Wild Talent: Xeph display considerable natural psionic ability and may roll twice on the Wild Talent table. Alternatively, the character may roll once and gain an additional 3 PP.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Additions to the Athasian Maenad to make them on par with the other races:

+2 CON

Chaotic Mind: Maenads gain a +4 Racial Bonus against Mind-Affecting Effects. Also, when a Maenad is subject to the condition, they may make a roll every round to break free from the effect. If they do break free of the effect, their attacker takes 1d8 points of Nonlethal Damage, as the Maenad's chaotic mind lashes out at the target as a form of sympathetic response.

Greater Wild Talent: Maenads display considerable natural psionic ability and may roll twice on the Wild Talent table. Alternatively, the character may roll once and gain an additional 3 PP.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Additions to the Athasian Elan to make them on par with the other races, as well as a change to their Repletion ability:

+2 to any Mental Ability Score

Visions of a Lost Age: Elans gain a +4 Racial Bonus to Knowledge Arcana, Knowledge: History checks, and Knowledge: Psionics. In addition, Elans will occasionally receive visions of the past at times determined by the GM. These visions can pertain to many things, but most of the time have some deeper meaning. This is similar to various divination effects, but potentially more powerful than effects that the PCs can replicate at most levels. Of course, this IS GM controlled, so do not expect it at will.

Greater Wild Talent: Elans display considerable natural psionic ability and may roll twice on the Wild Talent table. Alternatively, the character may roll once and gain an additional 3 PP.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Rynjin, those options are perfectly fine!

Understood Dragoncat!

I will leave recruitment open for another 2 weeks, since the holidays likely put everyone through the proverbial wringer in regards to free time.

Does anyone have any more questions for me to answer?

I was referring to the way that you calculated things, because while my system worked at lower levels, it did not account for higher levels. Shows what happens when one's work is cut short by having to entertain guests for the holidays!

Nyaa, my apologies, I just read the first few columns and it seemed to add up. That said, I see your point now. Thank you for putting the system together!

OK, REVISED FORMAT FOR MP SYSTEM! USE NYAA'S SYSTEM, AS IT SEEMS TO WORK BETTER AND IS MORE IN-LINE WITH WHAT I AM SHOOTING FOR!

Fabian, Rynjin is correct!

Ah, my apologies. Starting wealth: the equivalent of 85 GP in equipment. And yes, I am aware that is extremely sparce, but this IS Athas! Remember, nothing made of metal, because it is worth a LOT!

As for Mana Points, the system is simple. Take each spell level, multiply that spell level's number by the number of spells of that sort you can cast per day. Nyaa's calculations, for those particular spell levels, are quite accurate. People who were prepared casters before, however, take a 10% MP cut to whatever their Maximum MP is at levels above 5, to accommodate for their increased versatility by being able to cast spontaneously.

Also, bear in mind that while prepared casters gain spontaneous casting, they must choose which spells they 'attune' to when they prepare spells, which determines what they may spontaneously cast. Make sense?

Fabian, the Crodlu will be statted up soon for your perusal.

Rynjin, that figure is accurate.

Dragoncat, that is fine! Fluff out the characters, but bear in mind some of the changes that have occurred in Athas, such as Kalak being overthrown. As for an appropriate holy symbol, it could be something as simple as a clay amulet carved with an Auran rune.

The Doom That Came to Sarnath, their Intuitive Psionics does apply, since it would make little sense if it didn't.

Now that the holidays are over, things will resume with frequent posts and such.

Wow, this thread blew up fast! Only my second recruitment thread and it is quite popular. :)

Viluki, yes, though there will be some changes to their fluff. The race is mainly from the Sea of Silt, if you were curious as to where they were from. I will also be updating the race.

Monkeygod, but of course. Thanks to DM Under a Dark Sun, it is now confirmed that each race is around 20 RP, which is what our mutual acquaintance was thinking.

Nyaa, we are running the 4.0 Dark Sun setting, mainly because of the way that time has advanced, but we are obviously using Pathfinder/3.X rules. Veilweaving and Disciplines do not interact with Defiler Magic, because they are more mystic arts than magic, much like a Monk's Ki abilities. Does that make sense? Yes, your question about Aegis/Soulknife-PRC interactions is correct, given the text. If it says it in the book, assume it is so.

Sixteenbiticon, Psionic Aptitude is not being phased out, but only those races that specifically state as having it will not possess it. This is because, even on a high-psionic world like Athas, there are some races that possess a skill with psionics which is significantly higher than others. The average Human on Athas, for instance, are not particularly powerful psionic users, even though they all have some aptitude for it. There are some races, like the Maenads for instance, who have something special, like psionically-resonant crystals embedded in the flesh from birth for example, that give make psionic power flow more freely through them. Make sense?

SRD Wisdom in the Flesh Text wrote:
Your hours of meditation on inner perfection and the nature of strength and speed allow you to focus your thoughts to achieve things your body might not normally be able to do on its own.

So yes, meditation is definitely something that can be a part of the flavor. If you want a connection to the elements for it, I would say that it would be the wind.

DM Under a Dark Sun, thank you for all of your input and I mean that honestly, not sarcastically! I have considered the power of the Soulknife and Aegis classes. However, since Soulknives have always been a part of Athasian lore and Aegises (Aegii?) are their defensive equivelant, I will allow them. However, I will also expect them to not try and hog any items that the party does find. Athas.org does have some great material! I have downloaded every one of the books and they have a place of honor in my PDF folder, no small feat because I have 1,000+ PDFs. And no worries, I was planning on repletion having an ever-increasing, exponential drain on PP the more it is used consecutively. Eventually, if it reaches the point where the cost exceeds their PP pool, they will immediately start suffering some pretty severe effects.

Dragoncat, what do you mean? Some cities have currency, while some have a barter system. I don't envision it being a problem.

Rynjin, Fabian is correct. They should be found on one of the 3.X SRDs. Amazing weapons!

Fabian, Hunter IS allowed! There is a list in GM Under a Dark Sun's race file, but I will be adding a few, particularly at much higher levels when you can get some of those huge 'warbeasts'! If you remember Dark Sun from the old days, you remember what I am talking about! As for the magic system, I presume you are speaking oif for the Hunter specifically? In essence, the magic system will be like the Psionic Power Point system, although magic will be the Mana Point system. Spontaneous casters still have a limited selection and prepared casters still choose which spells to 'attune to' each day, but the number of spell points will be different, in proportions. Spontaneous casters will gain a greater pool of MP while prepared casters will have a smaller one, but that is the trade-off for gaining the ability to spontaneously cast their prepared spells!

CaptainFord, the Kobold race is considered exterminated in Dark Sun, due to Sacha of Arala, one of Rajaat's Champions during the Cleansing Wars. I COULD say that there was only a small clutch of eggs which had not hatched for a long time, due to the conditions they were in. You will need to convince me that the Kobolds were not completely wiped out. As for Samurai, no problem there, although remember that most arms and armor and made out of primitive materials.

Silvertongue, like those 'Kreens, eh? I do as well! They remind me, at least in terms of society, of Predators: everything for the hunt, the kill, and the clan.

Defiler magic IS available for PCs, but there are far worse consequences for the PCs than for more powerful individuals such as, say, the Sorceror-Kings. Power always comes with a price, especially when it is taken at the expense of the others. Use it too much and not only can it twist a person into a monster in body, but it can turn their heart towards the wickedness like is present in the Sorceror Kings (In game terms, making them NPCs). If you have ever played in Ravenloft with Power Checks or 3.X with Taint, the accumulation of tainted magic in a person has similar effects. Hence, it will only be something that is even remotely justified for use in emergencies, because of the risks involved. It is my suggestion to NEVER use defiler magic, just as it is a suggestion in other campaigns to not gut an innocent person with a sword. I don't believe in limiting PC actions in-game, but the consequences of their actions WILL be fealt, for good or ill.

Monkeygod, here are answers to your questions.

1. Focus on the fluff of the Dark Sun material, such as the state of the major powers on Athas, the geography, the fluff on the races, ect. Obviously ignore the 4.0 rules and ignore any mention of Spelljammers and such lol.

2. As for archetypes, there are not any that I know of that are setting-specific (Unless they are in GM Under A Dark Sun's other material). I WILL, however, be amenable to people asking about making certain Prestige Classes from the Prestige Class books on the athas.org website into archetypes, as I stated on the other thread. They will, quite obviously, be boosted to Pathfinder power levels.

3. Xeph are fine, but I will be working with you on their fluff. I assume you are fine with fluff alterations?

Nyaa, here are the answers to your questions!

1. Mana point system will be posted for Wizards soon, as per your request. Not tonight, given how late it is, but possibly later today.

2. Elans will be allowed, but with a pretty sizable change to their flavor. Of course, considering that Halflings are semi-cannibals in Dark Sun, flavor changes are pretty much present for everyone but Humans, because Humans were already very diverse. Remind me via PM later today to post this. The holidays are quite hectic at times, are they not?

3. Psionic aptitude is something that implies a deeper connection to psionics than normal races.

4. Psionics and magic are two separate things.

5. Yes, the Path of War playtests are allowed.

6. I did not know that there was such a book as Bloodforge. After looking at the preview, it is the one book that they make that I am aware of for Pathfinder that I will NOT allow.

Hmmm... a fair point. We will track EXP normally then.

Deadline for Applications: January 5th, due to the massive amount of material people may want to look through.

As far as leveling, it will occur whenever an 'adventure' is complete. The adventures range anywhere from module length to an AP book in length, by my best estimations.

Yes, there are. Same thing as Heavy Armor Optimization in regards to effects.

Ah, yes! Here you go! Heavy Armor Optimization feat! My mistake.

EDIT: GM Under A Dark Sun did a great job with those races! I found nothing needing to be tweaked, apart from mentioning where that feat is from.

Rynjin, armor optimization? And no, not just weapons from the Athas Emporium, though any weapon you are starting out with is likely made of bone, chitin, stone, or some other readily-available material, so any weapons from basic Pathfinder likely will look primitive.

Rynjin, yes those feats are allowed! As for level progression, everyone will gain a level after each 'adventure'. This will keep leveling at a decent pace and cut out the 'Kobolds for 3 years' predicament that Nyaa was speaking of. Does that answer your question?

THE DARK SUN RECRUITMENT IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS!!!

Discuss everything which is not gameplay here!

Dot.

Yes folks, it is finally here, the recruitment for my Dark Sun campaign!

For those curious about what the campaign setting will be like, check out this file in Google Docs, which I found with a quick search on Google. It saves me the trouble of having to scan my entire book and upload it! Disclaimer: Dark Sun was one of the few 4.0 'revived settings' that I rather enjoyed, as it fits what I view as an 'ideal worldstate' for the campaign backdrop.

Here is a map of the starting regions in the area.

The campaign will begin in the Free City of Tyr, where King Kalak once reigned. The PCs are all members of House Daylethanu, a new merchant house founded by an Elven woman by the name of Eylissa Daylethanu, who has abandoned the sterotypical Elven profession of a thief and a cheat to become an honest businesswoman. She accepts any and all into her house, of any race or ethnicity, though she TRIES to weed out those who have a 'bad reputation' (READ: CE or otherwise blatantly evil and/or untrustworthy people! This is my in-game reason for keeping party-betraying murder-hobos out. See alignment below for more details.), due to the fact that she is already mistrusted by dint of being an Elf. Due to her scruples about what she buys and sells, as well as what sort of employees she aims to hire, her house is a bit down on its luck. Still, she is an honest employer and pays fairly, so there is not much to complain about. In her newest venture, she plans on opening trades with the city of Urik and needs a group of dependable people to lead a caravan to the city and work out an arrangement. The PCs are those people!

Though the campaign starts out in humble beginnings, do not expect to be mere caravan guards forever. That is all I will say about that!

Themes that will play a part in the campaign at some point:
Struggle (To both survive AND to thrive), savagery, the elements, imperialism, and the lost wonders of Athas.

Now, for the information that you will need to create characters!

CHARACTER CREATION

Any material from this site can possibly be used, with proper conversions. If you are interested, feel free to inquire about it!

Starting Level: 2

Races: These are the primary races in Athas. That said, if you would like to play as one of the bird-like Aarockra or one of the races from Dreamscarred Press's psionics series, let me know and I will consider it, though they will be boosted to match the other races in power if I allow them. Other races MAY be allowed, but don't automatically expect to play as one of them.

Classes: Anything on the SRD, apart from Alchemist, Gunslinger, Machinesmith, or other 'non-Aphasian' classes. If you don't know what I mean, just ask. EDIT: Obviously, all Dreamscarred Press material is allowed!

Ability Score Buy: Pick one score which will be set to 18 and another to be set to 08, both before racial modifiers. From there, you may distribute 12 points on a 1-1 basis over your scores, though no score can be higher than 18 before modifiers.

Max HP per HD

+1 Bonus Feat

You start with 2 bonus skill points and gain +1 skill point every level

Alignment: Preferably non-evil. Compelling reasons must be given before an evil character will be allowed.

Traits: 2, plus the option to take a 3rd if you take a Drawback.

NOTE FOR SPELLCASTERS! There will be a 'mana-based' system with spellpoints instead of traditional Vancian magic systems. If you intend to play a spellcaster of any sort, then state which class and I will provide the rules for your specific class.

NOTE FOR CLASSES THAT GRANT PETS! Athas is a world apart in terms of wildlife. If you play as a class that grants an Animal Companion or a Familiar, you will be restricted to certain animals, some of which are unique to the Dark Sun setting.

I believe that covers everything, no? If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask!
